If there’s going to be a version of Vlad III that solely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, I think it’s best to have him as a Caster, since it’s stated in the book that he’s well-verse in magic, specifically alchemy and the black arts. Maybe draw some elements from Castlevania’s Dracula and Hellsing’s Alucard while we’re at it.
I actually want go more in depth with this Caster Dracula, specifically where he learn to use magic. In Bram Stoker’s book, it was stated that Dracula learned magic from the Scholomance. In Romanian folklore, the Scholomance is a school of dark magic, where ten students (some versions say seven or thirteen instead) attend the school at a time for a seven or nine year curriculum. There, these wizards-in-training would be taught by the Devil himself, and they would learn how to perform all kinds of magic, with the most notable kinds of magic being taught are talking to animals, controlling the weather, and riding dragons (specifically a Balaur/Zmeu, a type of dragon in Romanian folklore). And everything that these wizards learned, they have to write down in a single book. By the time of graduation, nine students would leave the school, while the tenth student cannot leave, as they are in the Devil’s service for eternity, forced to make the weather while riding a dragon. For more information on the Scholomance, check out this video by Tale Foundry. espanolbot2.tumblr.com/post/633216764980953088/the-devils-school-where-dracula-learned-magic/amp So, in summary, Caster Dracula learned all kinds of magic from the Devil’s magic school, including talking to animals and controlling the weather. Not to mention, Dracula, Son of the Dragon, riding an actual dragon sounds pretty badass. Kinda of cool way to qualify for the Rider class.
While I’m at it, let’s talk about some of the characters from Bram Stoker’s Dracula that can be summoned as servants. - Abraham Van Helsing: Let’s get this guy out the way. This guy would definitely qualify for a Caster and an Archer. When people hear vampire hunter, Helsing is the first to come to mind. But in the book, he was a very goofy medical doctor with no prior experience of vampire hunting (although people seeing him as a great vampire hunter would influence him as a servant), however, he does have a great wealth of occult and folkloric acknowledge, which is why I qualified him for a Caster. As for Archer… well, he just so happens to bring a lot of stuff for vampire hunting when he arrived to England, including guns. - Lucy Westenra: She would be a Berserker. Lucy was an ordinary, beautiful, innocent young woman, until Dracula striked. She would die in the book, only to be brought back as a vampire, devoid of humanity and free will, and attacking anyone to fill her hunger. So she’s easily qualifies for Berserker. - Jonathan and Mina Harker: Last one I have and saving the best for last. Jonathan would be a Saber, because in the book, he wields a kukri as his main weapon. A kukri is a short sword with a distinct recurve in its blade that originated in the Indian subcontinent. As for Mina, I got almost nothing for her. She does develop a psychic link with Dracula, albeit temporarily, which could qualify her as a Caster, but I’m not too sure about that. Then I had a thought. In the book, it’s noted how devoted they are to each other, both as lovers and partners. So I was thinking, why not summon both of them as one servant, similar to the Dioscuri, the Trung Sisters, and Anne Bonny and Mary Mead. Not to mention that they will get the vampire hunter influence just for being associated with Van Helsing.
Extra Vlad's Valentine CE is actually a reference to his original Master in Fate Extra. She's a "scary" parody of Ronald McDonald's whose whole deal is about Cannibalism, so making a burger is a neat reference to that. Then we also add another layer which is the "dragon steak" pain scream of Elisabeth Bathory. Even if not addressed in the video, The Vlad from Extra hates Bathory for what she did to his original Master in CCC, so jabs at her are sometimes added here and there to basically scare her off.
@@neptuneplaneptune3367 Apocrypha/Berserker Vlad treats her as his niece, so he's one of the few that tolerates her. So the contrast is the more interesting.
Regarding Berserker Vlad vs Apocrypha Vlad, this situation is born because of the author writing himself against the wall. It's impossible to summon Apocrypha Vlad outside Romania, as you get Extra Vlad instead. So to work around it, they made the Berserker version, who is for all intends and purposes, just Lancer of Black with a nerfed Version of Legend of Dracula constantly active. But personality wise he's no different from his self from Apocrypha.
The Dracula design we see in the Apocrypha anime wasn't in the light novel it's based on. The description we're given of Dracula in the light novel is more or less Berserker Vlad's design in FGO with the exception that Vlad's lance turns to dust once Legend of Dracula is activated.
Not only Vlad III from Apocrypha is callback to Castlevania, his VA, Ryoutarou Okiayu who also voices several servants, is also a hommage to Alucard in the games and Trevor C Belmont in the Netflix series, who are also voiced by the legend himself.
I really love Vlad Berserker, to the point where he was the first servant i ever grailed. I just really like his royal demenor with a kind heart, yet he has no qualms about showing his dark and brutal side. He cares about his people and is willing to do anything for them, I'd say quite fitting for the historical figure too. His hobby of sewing for the other servants is supremely adorable. Also, vampires are just cool. His design is really, really good, and he's very attractive 😅
4:16 The manga adaptation of Apocrypha does do justice to his Legend of Dracula being activated. No giant fangs, just markedly pointy canines. No big "elf ears", just ears that are pointed now. Small bright rings in his irises that look a little like Arcueid's Mystic Eyes when activated (or pissed). The clothing gets a high collar so often associated with depictions of Dracula. Look it up, that version looks appropriately scary compared to the anime adaptation.
I mean considering the Grail update its servants with info of the era they're summoned into, it wouldn't be far-fetched that Vlad in Apocrypha would know about Dracula, especially since it concerns his legend.
Yeah, the Apocrypha manga handled the vampire transformation with more restraint, settling for giving him a cape with a popped sharp-angled collar (which might have actually been Darnic's, I'm not sure) and more wild expressions (chapters 28-29, if you want to check it out). FGO postulates that embroidery is something Vlad enjoyed in life, hence his sewing hobby... I'm not sure if there is historic basis for that, but I think needlework is probably the best they they could come up with at the time as a "harmless analogue to impalement". A particular moment in FGO that I enjoy with Vlad is in Las Vegas Summer event. After getting commissioned on short notice to do some sewing and learning that it was actually Carmilla, who commissioned it, he keeps an eye on our shenanigans. And he encourages Carmilla to just be more honest with herself about what she actually wants. It's a small moment, but it's nice to see that he cares.
@@CrazyYurie I don't think it's a recent thing, since stoker's Dracula is said to shapeshift into anything like bats and mist; so becoming a wolf isn't a far-fetched. There's also Alucard in Symphony of the Night who is well known for transforming into a wolf in the game
Extra Vlad's hamburger V-Day CE might be a reference to his master in Fate/Extra Run Ru (Depicted in the La Folia CE) who was the one who wore the mascot costume for the "LenLen Burger" hamburger shop.
Vlad (the version from Apocrapha) is one of my favorite servants, so I'm really glad you covered him. Also, I'm sad you skipped over the Aprocrapha tie-in in FGO, he is really cool there.
All i can think of is him yelling "I am not a vampire!" when forced to use Legend of Dracula. I already knew some of what was said but i learned a lot, thank you for another informative video.
Hmm, a Dracula character.... I mean, there is options. Since the Bram Stoker novel merely took the name Dracula rather than the historic figure himself, which was later linked to the fictional character a Pretender Dracula could work since I can see a Dead Apostle or even True Ancestor using the title for one reason or another. Alternatively.... Vlad III. Alter, where instead of rejecting his portrayel as a vampire or dipping into it for a bit of pragmatism he just goes all out.
Pretty cool that we get two versions of a guy like this. It's perhaps not as well divided as Archer Nobu vs Avenger Nobu, but we have a similar thing going on of the historical figure and the reputation left behind both being represented. An Assassin form would be kinda cool to see. Likely not his strongest incarnation since it's not what he's mainly known for, but sneaking into an enemy camp means he's probably not half bad at stealth and recon if the situation calls for it. Going back to the Nobu comparison, maybe go like with her Zerker form and have Assassin Vlad be more like his younger years in terms of design and personality, as a way to further distinguish him from the other two.
If it helps in details for the scape goat, in the Old Testament people would use animal sacrifice as atonement for sins. For Christianity this practice is done away with primarily because Jesus is God dying on the cross for the sins of humanity, being the “sacrificial lamb of God”. Maybe it’s a connection to Vlad’s devotion to Christ but his need for forgiveness/a scapegoat because of his cruelty and atrocities. Hope that helped.
If I remember correctly, Dracula's apocrypha Manga design is more in the vein of a stereotypical depiction of Deacula, but with Fate's Vlad as the base, looks so much better than the anime, it even looks Castlevania inspired, look up Dracula Fate Apocrypha manga if you dont believe me, gorgeous design
Vlad was my first 5☆ Servant and so got a lot of use being a Berserker. But idk why I never looked up the actual historical figure. Thanks for letting me know more about my OG.
Barely related but I have to say it: Vlad (Dracula), Fran (Frankenstein and/or Bride of Frankenstein) , Jekyll and Hyde from Prototype (can become a werewolf), and an Egyptian Servant of choice standing in as the Mummy and we have the Universal Monsters (I know there are more).
Now I’m just wondering what all he’s kids from different franchises are thinking like I’m pretty sure the kid he has in monster high is going to say a lot more than the one from Castlevania just to name a few.
Also for a long time I thought that the lancer version of vlad was the one that more accepting of his vampire side and not the berserker version because well one acting more like there accepting of the whole Dracula thing than the other which is weird because one a lancer and the other a berserker.
There is actually a connection between Dracula and Hamburgers, though it's obscure enough that it's not certain FGO would be referencing it with the CE. Basically there was an anime movie in 1980 called Dracula Sovereign of the Damned, and there's a scene where Dracula eats a hamburger that became a small meme in modern times. There's no gurantee that this is an intentional reference but it would be fun if it were. (the film is actually an adaptation of a Marvel comic, the same one which introduced Blade)
Been watching your videos for a while (also watched the recently released Tristan video) and I gotta say, I really love them. If you make a patreon, I would totally donate to it! I hope to see more.
I personally prefer Vlad's Apocrypha design over his Extra design. More visually interesting. I'm not a fan of the spiky armour. The vampire stuff was probably inevitable with all fun powers it opens up for him but it's nice to see a version of him that focuses on his historical self over Dracula. Usually it's the other way around and you get variations of Dracula with allusions to Vlad. Vlad was the first time they used Innocent Monster, wasn't it? I really like the options that opened up for exploring the discrepancies between historical figures and the legends about them. Part of what makes heroic spirits interesting is that they're the combination of a legend and a soul associated with it. There's a bit of existential horror to that with people becoming tied to legends unrelated to the lives they lived or being reshaped so drastically by people's perceptions while continuing to exist after their deaths. Someone writes a horror novel inspired by you and now you have to spend your afterlife as a movie vampire. You're suddenly made aware of centuries of political propaganda distorting your deeds until it's the image most believe or tell stories about. That's now a part of your existence in such a way that you may have to fight that version of you some day. Realistically, I don't think Vlad can undo the existence of Dracula. At best, his wish would probably cause someone else to get summoned as Dracula instead of him. That might be good enough for him, since he'd stop getting summoned as a vampire. I do wonder who would end up becoming Dracula in his place. Would it create a situation like Sasaki? How would that new person feel about Vlad over this? Imagine Bram Stoker becoming Dracula and getting summoned alongside Vlad. I can't speak for the phantom but I'm still hoping you'll give Mephistopheles another chance. They definitely didn't use him to his full potential but there's also a big issue with people just not knowing enough about Faust to get all the references. The choice to not make him a real demon ties into some really interesting stuff about how they reinterpreted the themes and different versions of the story.
@@CrazyYurie well since she is in Tsukihime, what about her in Fate Extra,CCC and FGO since it is 8th anniversary servant they present. It will be worth watch your videos
Like what I said in the Konstantinos episode, I wish Nasu didn't ignored the Ottomans because like the Romans, they're the top dogs of the Western World and Japanese Bias is what kills my interest in Fate slowly (Malding how Non-Egypt Africa (aside from the spooder Ghana goddess Assassin), the entire American side that isn't Cowboys or Aztec gods, and Balkans are not given attention)
I do agree that the Japan bias is pretty heavy. Looking at the chart I use that sorts out where every servant is from by country or region? Japan has 56 servants for me to cover. The next closest is Greece at 28, followed by Britain at 25, China at 22, and France at 15.
@@CrazyYurie See? Meanwhile they ignore the entirety of SEAsia (except for the Trúng sis) and their neighbor (Korea...give us the turtle chad...oh wait, because he obliterated the Japanese in a naval battle that's impossible to win). The entire "Wait, Brazil Lostbelt without Brazilians?", "Wadjina's looking sus as hell", "North American Servants are rare even though post-Pilgrim history snowballed the country and turn into a powerhouse in a few centuries and Geronimo should've given some love", and "There are no Sub Sahara/Sahel African servants aside from that Ghana spooder goddess" leave a bad taste on my mouth
There's a long list of other servants I still have to do based on earlier polls. After that though? I have some plans. Nero is someone I do wish to talk about.
Extra Vlad' Valentine CE only makes sense if you consider who his Master in Fate/Extra. His Master there was Run Ru, also known as little Ronnie. A cannibalistic potential killer who wears a mascot costume of the popular hamburger shop called "RenRen Burger" (clearly based on Ronald MacDonald). She has a specific sort of anorexia that allows her to only consume things she truly loves. She is convinced that she did eat her own parents and her own child. Extra Vlad is supportive of her, believes her soul can be saved and starts to call her his wife. So burger combined with Vlad's Lance makes a lot sense as Valentine CE for him.
When I think Innocent Monster skill, I think Elizabeth, and given her connections to vampires and vlad I'm surpised she wasn't your go to on that skill. Also, Zerker Vald and Apogryphia vlad are basically the same character. In his own words, a version of Vlad that has accepted his connections to Dracula is by default mad, hence his classing.
If there ever was a Hellsing x FGO crossover, how would you depict Alucard and Vlad relationship? I would see Alucard as Vlad's actual body that has been brought back to life through vampirism and that being the real reason for the Dracula myth instead of the novel. With Servant Vlad being the form his soul took upon death and recording on the Throne of Heroes while still being affected by his body's actions. ...The fact that Alucard is voiced by Jouji Nakata aka Father Kotomine has nothing to do with this thought...nope...nothing at all.
Hey Yuire, since you did 2 "How Accurate" videos based on the servants from the Fate Extra Series, can your next videos be based on the servants from that game? since Fate Extra Record is potential close to being finish development
Good video. Just wanted to say in defense of Vlad during the Traum defensive battle, he was against an army of heroic spirits and lesser spirits (note worthy spirits that aren’t the same caliber as heroic spirits). An army of that would pretty easily defeat any human army, regardless of size. So considering they lasted as long as they did, I would say he did a great job.
@@CrazyYurie Somethings I would like to add in the defense of Vlad is that since Vlad is a very well known Heroic Spirt, that would actually be a pretty big detriment for Vlad as being stuck as a general and not being able to fight. Due to his legends being well known, Vlad's spying and night raid tactics can actually be used to the Reinstatement Army's advantage, especially since the Righteous not having much in the way of intelligence on the Reinstatement Army, which would make planning such tactics difficult. But also since Servants don't need to sleep or unequip gear to rest, which will make night raids less effective, but also put the attacker at a disadvantage due to the faster response time and possibly expecting a night raid ahead of time. Also Vlad won't be able to employ his famous terror tactics, since Servants don't leave corpses and not being able to personally impale people in a fight. Especially for a defensive siege in enemy territory with short prep time. A lack of prep time is the biggest problem any siege defender will face, which is what Vlad had to deal with, as seen with having to rebuild a castle in a day and a lack of traps at the northern gate. Two things that would have greatly helped Vlad would be allowing for a prolonged defensive war instead of a decisive defensive siege, or Vlad having access to his Servant abilities. A prolonged defensive war would have allowed Vlad to utilize tactics better suited for a smaller and less trained army, compared to a defensive siege fight against Konstantinos, an expert in defensive sieges. I would say that a prolonged defensive war would be what Vlad would excel at compared to a decisive defensive siege, but sadly, politics forced the siege. With Servant abilities, Vlad would have a much better time employing his tactics as he would be personally leading them, with the night raid being quite freezable due Vlad having a good chance to terrorize the Phantom Spirit soldiers in a fight regardless of knowing about Vlad's tactics. The best counter to Vlad with Servant abilities that the Reinstatement Army had was Pope Johanna, due to her whole Pope stuff, but even then, Vlad would have greatly reduced the moral of the Reinstatement soldiers.
The Bathory family were vassals under the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, and Matthias was friends with Vlad. King Matthias sent Stephen Bathory, Elizabeth's great-uncle (irc) to help Vlad reclaim his throne at one point. So not blood related, more like a family friend xD Edit: In the context of this video, Matthias was the same king who imprisoned Vlad at 22:00. He was also the son of John Hunyadi. And Stephen is name dropped at 24:05 !
In my opinion we dont HAVE a proper Dracula Servant and I dont think we ever will. Unless there truly was a Dead Apostle named Dracula within Fate lore, wich there dosnt seem to be, he is a 100% fictionol charakter and any attempt to summon him would only end up sommoning Vlad with vampiric abilitys. And also quite frankly Hellsing has spoiled me on how I want Dracula be depictet and FGO would be hard pressed to top the Crimson Fucker so frankly im not sure I evenwant them to try...especley as that would mean tying him into Dead Apostle lore and quite frankly im not a big fan of Dead Apostles in the Nasu Verse.

i'm personally excited to fight Vlad The Impaler/Dracula in Round 4 in Fate Extra Record when it comes out
The Vlad we see in Fate apocrypha is supposed to be lancer of black, but that’s Vlad berserker

I think I lost my sanity a while ago. Who knows where it is?
@@CrazyYurie Time to find and tame a Hippogriff.
I have no idea about the other games but seeing Vlad crying during the anime "Look what you made me do!" made me cry a bit too, poor guy.
4:12 now I want a Hellsing and fgo crossover just to see Alucard and Vlad interact with each other, that’ll be interesting.
Regular Alucard, or T4S Alucard? :P

Vlad was my first 5☆ Servant and so got a lot of use being a Berserker. But idk why I never looked up the actual historical figure. Thanks for letting me know more about my OG.
My first was Napoleon
The fame boost he gets in Romania also improves his NP, allowing him to generate stakes anywhere in the country
I could see an event or a chapter about apostles and vampires
Tsukihime Collab?!?
@@CrazyYurie I started reading tsukihime recently and I would love this!!!
high quality stuff as always, brother. thanks for the entertainment, very much appreciated!
Barely related but I have to say it:
Vlad (Dracula), Fran (Frankenstein and/or Bride of Frankenstein) , Jekyll and Hyde from Prototype (can become a werewolf), and an Egyptian Servant of choice standing in as the Mummy and we have the Universal Monsters (I know there are more).

my school is doing a dracula play and this video is going to be the entirety of my research lol
This video mainly talks about the historical Dracula rather than the vampire. :o
What they need to do is get Dracula from Castlevania and put him in FGO
I wish I'd played a Castlevania game. I hear they are good.

Now I’m just wondering what all he’s kids from different franchises are thinking like I’m pretty sure the kid he has in monster high is going to say a lot more than the one from Castlevania just to name a few.
Also for a long time I thought that the lancer version of vlad was the one that more accepting of his vampire side and not the berserker version because well one acting more like there accepting of the whole Dracula thing than the other which is weird because one a lancer and the other a berserker.
a real Dracula Servant would be so nice! I mean, upcoming Halloween events would be a good place to introduce him.
Alas, that was before my time. x_x
If you wanted better looking vampire vlad take a look at the fate apocrypha manga
Been watching your videos for a while (also watched the recently released Tristan video) and I gotta say, I really love them. If you make a patreon, I would totally donate to it! I hope to see more.
Thanks! :D
22:51 Empress Melusine ? 8O
Can you cover the servant from FGO you know the character Arcueid Brunestud? Since she is a vampire also but different said in the game original one
What non-TM version of Arcueid can I compare her to?
Amazing work I'm pretty much binge watching, can u do Nero pls?
There's a schedule.
His vampire design is way better in the manga
Both sides had heroic spirits.
@@CrazyYurie true, but Constan had more and overall higher quality army of servants. Vald had a smaller and lesser trained force
@@Vaquita_Vibes Mehmed II also had a better army, and outnumbered Vlad perhaps as much as 15 to 1.
The best counter to Vlad with Servant abilities that the Reinstatement Army had was Pope Johanna, due to her whole Pope stuff, but even then, Vlad would have greatly reduced the moral of the Reinstatement soldiers.
you need a better microphone bro. your content is good
I keep fussing over which one to get. x_x
Quick question: is there a lostbelt based around vampires?
Based around vampires? I would say no.
Isn’t he and Elizabeth Bathory blood related? And if that’s so, why doesn’t he have the dragon trait like her?
European royalty tend to be blood related
As far as I know, Vlad and Elizabeth are not blood-related.
The Bathory family were vassals under the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, and Matthias was friends with Vlad. King Matthias sent Stephen Bathory, Elizabeth's great-uncle (irc) to help Vlad reclaim his throne at one point.
So not blood related, more like a family friend xD
Edit: In the context of this video, Matthias was the same king who imprisoned Vlad at 22:00. He was also the son of John Hunyadi. And Stephen is name dropped at 24:05 !
So next is the character that makes it so hard to find anything about them without really trying, everyone's favorite femboy
I knoww.... Astolfo is hard. x_x
THE CRIMSON FUCKER!
I think the fact that Fate's Vlad III isn't really Dracula is why I didn't go hard on the Team Four Star memes. About the most I could do was bring up Alucard a few times.
So why ignore TATARI creating the vampire rumors about Vlad in the first place?
I don't understand what you mean?
@@CrazyYurie Zepia, Sion's ancestor formed a pact with Altrouge Brunestud and turned himself into a DAA phenomenon TATARI, manifestation of fears and rumors. The last anybody heard of him (in his original form) was 500 years ago, in Transylvania and his title is Night of Wallachia. So he's directly involved in spreading the rumors about Vlad at least on the Tsukihime side of TM.
Interesting, though... I don't see how that's relevant to Fate.
I wish he has black hair.
