      Can you do a video about Christopher Columbus? A lot of his history is obscured by today's culture. He wasn't really that an evil person. One of the most well-known records that we have of him is meeting the tainu people. Headhunters that were Christianed and baptized by Columbus and we're assimilated into society and sent off to Spain. They really didn't become slaves at all. Not only that but there is a journal of his in the us capital on display. The only mention of him being an evil racist was when he sent a letter to the queen of Spain that they could sell one "CANNIBAL" for the price of 3 savages. Also look up some stuff about the encomienda that Columbus was a part of. It has its roots based on the practices of exalting tribute to the Muslims and Jews after the reconquista and also reducing forced labor. ever since the new world, it has been a legal system of defining of the indigenous people.

      @@alfonsodeltez1233 I plan to do all FGO servants who are not TM originals - and that includes Columbus. I've thought about how his video might go a few times, actually, since he is actually a pretty interesting counter to many other Fate servants who have their uglier traits covered up.

    Constantine is the definition of right man born at the wrong time. He was a suprisingly good ruler for majority of his reign. But Byzantine was well-known for its trickery and betrayal among the nobles so Constantine could'nt do much to save it. His last stance was respected even among Turks at that point. That may be one of the reason why Mehmed II did'nt rename the city Constantinople when he was alive.

    The awesomeness of Constantine's NP animation is only surpassed by the disappointment of his defensive buffs only lasting a single turn😢
    Edit: I'm surprised you didn't mention that his NP having three defensive buffs is a clear reference to the three - layered walls of Constantinople

    A fun fact about his noble phantasm is that he received an NP animation update about a week after his release on JP. On release, his NP showed the Hagia Sophia with minarets, however once the devs realized that the minarets were added after his death, they updated his NP animation to the current one. If you check out his videos from the FGO youtubers who did his showcase for JP on his release, you can see the minarets of Hagia Sophia in there.

    I don’t blame him for being terrified down to his bones. He may be the great conqueror of Constantinople, but what he saw that day in Wallachia would make even the greatest warrior kings fall to their knees in absolute terror.

  • @taiga738
    @taiga738 5 місяців тому +12

    I'd say Constantine's colours match up alright. The way we view and describe colours has varied across time and cultures, which you can see in the etymology of some colour terms across languages. Roux, russet and rose are cognates that describe red, orange/brown and pink. Some languages don't distinguish between blue and green or do it differently than in english.
    Pourpre comes from the latin purpura same as purple but is more of a purplish red. You can see the same thing with grapes, where the purple ones give you juice with a similar red/purple. There were multiple species of murex snails being used for pigment, which didn't produce quite the same colour. The museum recreations of the dyes show that in addition to the classic purple, one was more reddish purple and another was basically red.
    The overall impression I've gotten is that Tyrian purple was actually a group of purples made in Tyre and that those purples included shades we'd consider more red than purple. None should be any more or less authentic, since narrowing the term down to just one would overlook the original context of the term. It's a bit like people assuming any historical reference to light/gold hair automatically means light blond even when it's more likely to have been light brown.
    Using a less conventional Tyrian purple for Constantine was a good choice. Experimenting with different shades allows exploration of the different purples that likely held that name while also giving some variety to designs. Everyone wearing the exact same purple would get repetitive.

      Tyrian Purple, specifically the dye extracted from the snails which is ludicrously expensive to produce, is the reason why purple is considered a royal color since only emperors could afford it but it's more like a shade of maroon than it is the typical modern understanding of purple which is definitely more on the blue side of the spectrum.

    There actually is an Mehmed II servant in an official fate work. He's apparently an archer.
    Although that comes with an asterisk. The work in question, Fate School Life, is a gag comedy. And IIRC the story Mehmed II appeared in was actually a story made up in universe, so Jury's out on how canon he is.
    The story's actually pretty interesting because from what I can find he was a part of a contest where fans could submit their own servants. One for each of the main classes was picked, Minus Assassin plus ruler.

    Archer: Mehmed II
