Have been using your mix template for a couple of years now so the Print method will work perfectly with my setup. Can't wait to try it out on my Westworld competition entry 😀
That printing method is really interesting. I will try that on my next mix. Thank you sir!
I do this printing since I‘m using an Audio summing unit (Mixdream). After summing my stereo signal goes to a master EQ and finally to a compressor. I love this workflow😀
this information and all the things you teach are watching you respectfully thanks for everything
You're welcome my friend!
I started like more and more your channel, pretty simple and very practical, can't wait to see another episod
This Print method is awesome!!! Thanks for telling us!
Wow I like this Chris you're the best teacher man ..as for routing the mix in to one stereo. Group and do some processing. I fined it very useful...thank you so much
Chris, I always enjoy coming back to your channel. You're one of my top resources to clear Cubase problem solving! This video came close to solving my current head-scratcher.
I use anAuditronics 110 vintage console to sum mix most of my group tracks, but some stay in the box during the process. How would you set up busses to bring the console's summed output and the ITB mix busses back together for the final 2-BUS for that Final Print?
More usefull information ... Thank You Chris!
Hi Chris, thanks for all your tutorials, always like them!! Whant to ask you if you could make another tutorial about printing mixes, don´t know what step I´m missing, but I can´t get it right. Regards
Awesome!
Amazing video! helped me alot! thank you so much!
That's great! Happy I could help
Cool stuff!
Great video. Thanks a lot.
I get crackles and sparks when I combine a song with a video. Any idea how I can have it not crackle?
Thank you sir! god bless you
I was just about to ask exactly the same as in 9:23 😹. Thank you for another good video, Chris.
Lol, awesome!
Good Stuff Chris
Hi, what abiut your experience about a null test to compare mixdown, export i real time and printing, speaking about a song with at least 20 tracks ? Using the option, at the end of export, to include the file in the project, wich is the difference between export realtim + option and print ? Thanks much
Strait forward. thank you Chris.
Hey Chris, how do you set your projects MetaData within cubase. As in album name, track name, track number, ISRCode etc
Thank u Chris, but I want ask: why use the printing method when, instead, there is the option to import the mix in the project (it creates an audio track the same...)?
What do you guys use for setting locators quickly for full song export? I always highlight all arranger tracks with my mouse and hit P. wonder whether there is a faster way?
Isn't that fast enough already? I think it may be possible to make macro, assigned to a keyboard shortcut, that selects all events and then sets the locators. For me personally I sometimes have multiple some in one project so manually selecting then pressing 'p' is as fast as I could think of.
@@shawn-singh so i work with the split arranger (trying to have arranger track always visible). In order to be able to highlight all arranger events with the mouse i have to zoom out fully and be careful not to move the first / last event when i start dragging; also need to unselect afterwards because if you forget and do editing in the bottom part you may accidentally affect the arranger events. Meaning you have you to remember to unselect later.
I think a macro might be cleverer, like you said.
Thanks Chris, Can you explain how to export the marker track?
I really enjoy your channel. I went back to Cubase 10 from studio one 4.
Welcome back! Happy you enjoy the channel!
@@mixdownonline thank you
Hi Chris can you make a video about how to create a tape stop effect within cubase?
Thank You!!
You're welcome!
CHRIS... why isnt your output channel selected in the export section in the window?( channel selection)
hi chris - not really sure what you are exporting at 1:17 - stereo out is not selected. when i do real time export i also have no function to hear the mix during the export (cubase 12)
Is there a way having two outputs, one for listening and one for exporting? I often mix/master with headphones. With these headphones I feel I get a better result when I add an EQ. This 'listening EQ' however I don't want on the exported file. Now while exporting I bypass the headphone EQ.
Great!!! thank you
You are welcome!
Thank You for yet another awesome video! One question from here. I always export in real time do to hardware, BUT I cant hear what Im exporting like in your video. I have tried to google a Solution, but havent found the Right One yet. I suspect its something with Control Room, but i have pushed on all the button and still no sound, when real time exporting. SO how did You get sound out, when exporting real time? Thank You in advance 😃
Check this link that is also good for Export Audition Sound www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/no-sound-on-the-mediabay-preview.html
Chris, did they fix the codec dialog in 10.5? With C10, when creating mp3s Its always 2 clicks to set the song title and it doesn't remember it per project, very annoying.
Excellent video as always Chris!! Merci!
The only problem is that i dont have the volume bar available when exporting in real time. Vraiment bizarre! I dont know why!?!?!?
Hi Frank, did you solve this problem? I am having the same issue!
It is possible to do the printing method but with Cubase artist ?
hi! thanks for your helpful videos! while im exporting from cubase 10.5 sometimes some tracks from the project not exported or demaghed, do you know what is the reason?
hard for me to tell since I don't have your session in front of me
Hi, Chris! Thanx so much, for all your very useful tutorials. I can see, in this actual tutorial, that your work in 48 Khz X 24 Bits. Can you tell me the advantages to do so? Because i work in 44,1 Khz X 24 Bits. 😊
I'm a beginner, i want to understand. Thanx. Peace to you! 👊🏿✊🏿
I made a video on Sample rate a couple of years ago, maybe that will help. ua-cam.com/video/IahwHQ2mNfY/v-deo.html
As long as I've been using Cubase, that print method never occurred to me. I like that a lot! Chris, please start doing videos on Wavelab. There are some out there but you just make this so easy to understand.
You're welcome!
Hi Chris, when I export a track after mixing the exported track is different from the one that I mixed in the project, it sound poor. I can't find a solution.
Can you help please?
Thanx, Chris!
You're welcome!
Hey Chris. I notice you run your group channels into a stereo mix and do your processing there as opposed to going directly to the master channel. Have you done a video of this i the past?
I have a PDF Guide and video accessible here mixdown.online/en/get-in-the-zone that will answer your question. Note that I will replace that video with a new 2020 updated version soon
Hi Chris, cool video. I would like to know how you export Trackout, because if I have Drums Group and would like to export only kicks, snare and etc. and I have Compressor in Group, it is working different if i will solo kick and export the kick in solo. How do you manage this? Or if anybody want trackout from your music, You are sending whole drums bounced from Group Channel? Thank you for your reply.
What I do is I Solo the Instrument Group and export it or solo the track(s) you want and export, all FX channels and Group where that track(s) is routed will also follow on the export. You can also Solo the Drum Group and mute that tracks out of that group that you don't want to export
I have Elements 10.5 and no bounce audio.
It shows "Audition Volume Level" but looks grayed out?
I have " Realtime" checked..
Chris can you make a review how to connect your outboard gear with Cubase ? Thx a lot for your great work
There you go! ua-cam.com/video/ZCdOp4JpY18/v-deo.html
Hi Chris, thank you so much for your knowledge!!! I’ve a question that I can’t find, about exporting audio file ( natural, no fx, etc). What’s the real quality difference doing a bounce compared to mixdown? Thank you Mr.
No quality difference IMO :-)
@@mixdownonline thank you for your time
Chris can you export audio mix your song in cubase with the effects on,an how will the other party who I'm sending to receive my song with my effects, does it matter what Daw it is,thankyou Chris,
Great video Chris. Sometime I wonder if you are psychic. Just the stuff I'm trying to learn and figure out right now. And it happens all the time :)
Maybe I am ;-)
Chris - how do you export stems? How do you export raw tracks - do you remove / separate send fx out completely / do you route them to additional stereo tracks? In the mix i always route my FX to subgroups ( vocals / guit etc.) But i guess when doing stems you want to print them separately?
Hey bro! To export Stems, I use my Intruments Goup Busses. I solo my Drum Buss to export my drum stems etc... Unfortunately, there's no quick to do this. For RAW tracks, I made a video on how I export raw tracks when I'm ready to mix ua-cam.com/video/JLVXA6NNVoU/v-deo.html
@@mixdownonline Cool. But that also means you need to do 6 passes for 6 stems - and I presume that you get the group FX mixed into them. I guess you would also disable master FX while doing this too.
I was hoping there might be a way to print out multiple group mixes to stereo tracks and reimport them.
Excellent information, as always, Chris. Can you post the URL to the video you referenced at this end of this presentation concerning a sound quality comparison across the three bounce/export approaches you described? Also, would you consider printing virtual effects within a recording session in those cases where a Cubase project becomes overly CPU-hungry? Other than direct offline processing of spatial effects contained on an insert, I image there is value in committing effects within a Cubase project by printing them separately when used in an FX send chain. During a work-in-progress, where one may not be overly concerned about the precision of a spatial effect, for instance, and printing it to free up some CPU cycles would be advantageous. Of course, as the Cubase project progresses, that printed effect may sound lousy in context, but one could always "freeze" something else temporarily to reprint the effect. I think there would be even greater value when printing effects during mixing, where all the source tracks typically are already rendered to audio. Over the course of the mix, as one applies various processing plugins to the tracks on FX send chains, the CPU meter will once again creep up on you. In practice, printing effects disturbs the workflow, as effects may need to be reprinted as the mix progresses. However, I think it is a reasonable trade-off to mitigate CPU-starved recording environments. I'd love to you hear your thoughts on this. Better still, I would appreciate a demonstration of your workflow, where you print FX both during Cubase project development and during a mix session.
To start with, here's the link to the video ua-cam.com/video/HYCvobIDD-A/v-deo.html
When it comes to printing effects to save CPU usage, I think I'll make a video on this one, cause I'm starting to get more questions on this.
@@mixdownonline Thank you, Chris, for the link, and I look forward to watching the "print effects" video after you create it.
HELP cubase is not exporting, when i click export in the audio mixdown it doen't do anything, when it does a song with 0 seconds show up! What i do? Help
Hi Chris, when i listen back my export track it not that good as in the cubase, the result is different and bad it's so disappointed.
Hi do you use WaveLab from Steinberg ?
For talk about it pls
I do only to create a DDP Montage for CD Duplication if my clients need to. Besides that, I don't use Wavelab.
Offline also is much easier on cpu. I really wish that multi track bounce had option for all the tracks to travel full signal path including master chanel. They should work on this.
Thanks for this! Question for you. I recorded drums for a few songs with 12mics. I need to send it to a client who wants the mixed version as well as a completely dry version (no processing, all levels at unity and no panning) to have the option of having it mixed by someone else. Is there a magical way to export all the 12tracks separately without having to solo each track independently and do the export 12times, and also export while bypassing all the processing, levels and panning without having to modify it all and put it back after? I almost spent more time exporting my last session than I did recording it! thank you!
Yes, that is my process ua-cam.com/video/JLVXA6NNVoU/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
@@mixdownonline Thanks for the quick and helpful reply amigo
@@Volodiaschneider you're welcome :-)
Hi, what if i click the real time export, but don't hear anything while it goes on? what am i doing wrong here? :) thanks
Can you please help me. my mixdown output has no audio. No sound at all while exporting.
but playback is okay.
I just can't export any audio even MP3 or wav. or any option wont work. Pls. Thanks
i rendered in realtime mode but no hear the sound. anything setup to do?
If you have Cubase Artist, the playback during Export is not available. If you're using the Pro Version, try this www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/no-sound-on-the-mediabay-preview.html
Yeah but what format do you use to get an MP3? I can only do "wave" type format and the other ones are useless for listening to.
When you export, select MPEG-1 Layer3 which is MP3 :-)
Hi Chris: I watch all your episodes - the best Cubase tutorials on the web. I need a new interface and considering the UR816C. The Control Room extras seem particularly attractive. Being a drummer like you, I'd need two of them; unless I buy a cheaper ADAT interface to add to the 816. But won't this mean that the monitor control will not be the same for the non-Steinberg component? The second interface will be recording overheads and room so I'm thinking not a good place to save money. What do you think? Do you like the 816 as a mid range interface? Thanks so much.
The UR816C is a good choice. Adding an ADAT Interface to it will work ok with monitor control etc... I'm actually gonna make a review of the AXR4T soon and will hook up my old Lynx Aurora16 converters via ADAT to it. Stay tuned!
@@mixdownonline I emailed Yamaha and asked if Cubase sees only one UR816C so if buying two would be a waste of money; but conversely, if I purchased a non-Steinberg interface to add 8 channels to it, would the monitoring across that device be somehow less integrated. This is the reply I got:
"Your information is correct
The UR816-C has a HA Mode that essentially turns one unit into an 8 channel ADAT mic pre
So for your set up a single UR816-C with an additional 8 ch mic ADAT pre would give you 16 mic inputs"
I'm afaraid I'm no closer to understanding this, so your video will be very helpful.
how do you record audio from that output group and use that audio in the same session? or how can you export the audio directly back into the session ?
The answer of the first part of your question is in the video, watch it again ;-) To Export audio back in the Project, on the Export window, check the option "Create Audio Track" under "After Export"
Chris Selim - Mixdown Online lol thanks, i actually did rewatch it later that day and saw that tip. thanks a lot for these Cubase videos. It has sped up my workflow and understanding of what Cubase can do. You really help a lot of people out there. keep up the great work
Sir I'm having a problem.
After exporting the audio sounds are not syncing। The timing are not the same as in the project
How can I solve the problem
can i export with inserts on cubase ai :( if so how
great men thanks! , tutorias about to Superior Drummer 3?
I would love too but I don't have SD3
@@mixdownonline ok man. Thanks so much for the maginifiques videos grettings from Argentina
I have problem with cubase my master was great in project but after export that sounds different help me
Maybe you have an EQ or Enhance Audio of some sort activated directly from your computer's OS (Win or Mac).
Off topic - I use 2 great river preamps into a Zoom UAC-2 interface. Would it benefit my sound to upgrade the interface even though it's only used basically as throughput (onboard preamps on UAC-2 are set to zero and I use the preamp gains on the great river instead)??? Essentially does a higher quality audio interface have more headroom to handle higher preamp gain settings before breakup than a lower quality interface? Am I just looking at db range on each interface to assess this?
A higher quality interface like the Steinberg AXR4 or UAD Aplollo for example will have better converters. That will affect the sound quality to some degree. The sound quality difference will not be super huge though at lower sample rates, maybe at higher sample rates the difference will be more noticeable. I think that the fact that you're recording with a good quality preamp does more on sound quality than the converters imo. So you're doing the right thing.
@@mixdownonline I try to do as much research on gear before purchase but it's definitely a minefield of information out there! I kind of wanted to hear it from a trusted source such as yourself to be sure. Thanks Chris.
You're welcome... Let me know if you have any other questions regarding this... Happy to help :-)
i still dont know how to print my mix bcoz i dont know what is the first steep how to make AUX stereo
I am exporting the video in cubase 10.5 but each time I export the entire video, the contrast of the vid turns blue. How do I fix it?
🙏🔥
Hi there, i just wondering so the cubase artist can’t do the print? Thank’s
Cubase Artist doesn't have the routing capabilities that the Pro version has. So printing like I did in the video is not possible with Artist but you can Export Offline or in Realtime though
What kind of stereo compressor does he use?
In this video the Waves SSL G Master Buss Compressor. If not a plugin, I work with the Tegeler Crème Compressor ua-cam.com/video/6Vky5vhRpPc/v-deo.html
Salut Chris, je me suis acheté un DTX-M12 de Yamaha pour simuler des Rototoms et les sons dans ce bidule c'est de la merde. Est-ce qu'on peut extraire des samples de rototoms de cubase?
I have Cubase 10.5 dont get the channel selector in audio mixdown.
Pro version only!
Can I use the "printing method" in the same way for individual channels instead?
First of all, I have most of my instruments, vocals and sound effects as "individual channels" (mono or stereo, and either as audio or midi/VST) and I guess everyone has it this way... For example, like six stereo channels for every drum part (Kick, Snare, Hi-hat, Toms, OH & Amb), two bass guitar channels (mono), each guitar recorded; like left gtr, right gtr and lead gtr has there own channels (mono), each vocal has their own mono channel, lastly each FX channels for reverb sends, etc has their own stereo channels. But then I route each of these individual channels to Group Channels (stereo) so I can further balance the mix from there, then I route all Grp Ch to SUB channels (also stereo of course), lastly my SUBS are routed to a stereo channel I call "ALL SUBS" where I do my pre-mastering or mastering processing with limiter, etc. Then lastly in this "long" chain of routing channels (in the C10 Pro mixer) I have a Master Channel (but I dont touch this channel at all). So if Id do an Audio Mixdown, it would be from the Master channel (the last channel in this "chain of routing").
But while mixing I like to commit every now and then to my processing or editing, so I then also can remove som plugins after printing an individual channel, then deactivating the old channel and keep working with the new one... Let's say I have done a lot of Auto tuning on a vocal (editing phase) and it sounds great but I still havn't added any processing to it yet... But I want to print it before moving on to the "processing phase"... So using the "printing method" would be a nice feature for that, I'd guess...
So how would I do that? Same way I guess?
Thanks for your video!
If you want to "Print" one audio channel with all FX, you can use the Render in Place feature in Cubase. If you just want to "Print" your vocal tuning done with VariAudio, Bounce Selection is how I do it. I cover all those options in this video ua-cam.com/video/CQqnOtIkCPs/v-deo.html
@@mixdownonline Ahh render in place, that what I was looking for, been struggling with that for a long time now, because theres so many options I guess... Just have to dig in to it more... Thanks!
I need template for my cubase 5
Thanks a lot
I don't work with Cubase 5 anymore
🙏🏻❤️
With Me I Can Not Export Off Line Any More Because i Switched From a Steinberg MR816 CSX To a Waves Digigrid iOS That Dose Not Suport Off Line Export I Do Miss It Some Times
I see. I don't know the Waves Digirig
HOw about you show us how to set the locators.
Hey man i have a serious problem , can you help me
I can help you if you have a question regarding Cubase, music production, recording and mixing but not for system problems that requires troubleshooting. Ask your question and we'll see ;-)
But wouldn’t it cut off echoes and reverbs if you start printing out again in the middle of the song?
Yes, that's why I mentioned to go back and record a few bars earlier
Chris Selim - Mixdown Online Uups, I missed that. 🙂
What about video with audio for post?
Can you elaborate?
@@mixdownonline Sorry my original post was between version 7,8,9,9.5 there were various ways to mixdown audio with video in post. Have they fixed it in version 10?
Often Cubase ignores some automation during export. Exporting in real-time makes sure it picks up all the automation.
Interesting, never happened me in 17 years and I did a lot of Offline Export. I'll keep my eye open though
is there a reason why you are not just using the master out without having to create another out??
Yes, I keep my Master out for Metering plugins and Mix references. Also, If I want to print my Mix in my session, I need a Stereo Group channel to route it back on an Audio channel to be recorded.
@@mixdownonline thanks a lot!! It does make sense!
@@mixdownonline I would assume you are using a group track for this? Thanks so much!!
Vv
When Chris uploads a new video, I stop recording my "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher" cover and start the video.
LOL, thanks!
I wonder why we cannot print instrument tracks and vst rack channels. Such an obvious need for anybody working with midi instruments. You always have to create a group channel in between the instrument track and the print track. Adds up to the number of track counts significantly in my case. One of my most sought after features in a next update.
I know, that would be useful but you can always use the Render in Place feature
Chris Selim - Mixdown Online Yes and I do that of course but it's a different thing if you print the midi. You can do that while you are listening and the render in place renders all audio out channels of the midi instrument if needed or not. This is especially annoying when you use vienna ensemble pro.
❤👌👋
so exporting Realtime, the only benefit is you can hear it, and sit around, right? Just checking.
So far, yes! But is there a sound quality difference? We'll see next week ;-)
@@mixdownonline I figured you'd say that. Looking forward to it. And thanks as always.
You're welcome my friend :-)
@@mixdownonline My experience is that Cubase often omits some of my automation during a normal export. Doing a real-time export fixes those errors for me. The Cubase forums show that others experience this issue too.
Real time export has to be used when using the external plugin. Basically you employ a send and return channels to process external gear like channel strips, Sound modules, and or other computers all together with your mix or midi composition.
Hello Chris my Export page After the Single and Multiple have this (Single[AExCha.]-Multiple[AExCha.]) how i remove it
