    This really works wonders. I opened up a Certina New Art using a 20cc syringe earlier today after finding this clip. I had tried with my hand blower, a squeeze ball from an old blood pressure cuff and even a suction tool for soldering but used with pressing down on the plunger. The syringe worked the first time around and the materials are sure not to leave a mark.
    Thank you for this tutorial!
    Best regards

    This is brilliant.Few months ago I screwed up one of these Chinese watches trying to disassembly it the "normal" way-I pulled out the movement but the dial still left inside,taking off all hands-5 of them.Brand new watch.I could look at them through the cristal and give them a shake for fun.So I put it aside as a waste.Today I watched this video,screwed the case back in,took a syringe-mine was much smaller ~10cm and it loudly popped!Unbelivable!This project is back.Big Thanks!

    Thanks for this! After shooting my watch across the room, I figured out that putting it in a latex glove served to provide a good seal and captures the parts safely!

    Hello fellow watch enthusiasts. I've just been in need to remove the crystal from a watch that the back did not come off. So I searched and also found this video. While asking my wife where I night buy a syringe, she suggested I try one of her caned air blowers. The ones you use to blow off keyboards and such. I put the thin tube that comes taped to the side of the can, against the stem opening, squeezed the trigger and off popped the crystal. There you go folks for what it's worth.

    This worked amazingly well! So incredibly intuitive!
    I needed to remove the crystal from one of those fashion watches woth a sloping case at the back and with a tiny snap-on caseback. This worked like a charm, and only cost 45 cents for the syringe!

    Mark I watch your videos over and over (after I am finished studying and sometimes in between) to build up the courage to do my first overhaul...I have a Seamaster Deville that I think your syringe blow out technique would work on. I am, however NOT overhauling any of my Omegas on first flight....I will try my hand on a Baumgartner 866. Any pointers? BTW I am a student in molecular medicine so syringes are just my bag!

    I have a 12 years old Rotary Elite with no back and need to change the battery?
    I have been able to remove the crown and pop the glass out with ease following your informative watch repair video, but I have a problem as the movement seems to be fixed, is there something I need to do further to release the movement to enable me to replace the battery?

I have a question: Does your method to to open cases with no back applies also for the Omega Automatic Seamaster De Ville. Could you please tell me if the winding stem of this watch is also a splitted one? Don't want to tear on it and break it. Thank you in advance for your support in advance.

    Similar idea but you can use a bike pump with one of those plastic tips for filling inflatable pool rafts ect. Fits right over case tube and even if it's not super tight fit the air volume is much higher and it kind of makes up for it. Just hold on to the crystal like he does in his video. Used the bike pump method on a Benrus 3 star.

    Hi, i have a blancpain villeret 40mm watch in stainless steel 2 years old (2020) watch and i noticed that it is stiff when i try to wind it. It has 72 hours power reserve.
    Example: When i wind it, it is tight..
    I have to pull out the crown then i have to push it back in, in order for it to be buttery smooth when i wind it. It keeps excellent time BUT it is just stiff/tight if i wind it without pulling out the crown and pushing it back in first.. feels like resistance..
    Any idea on what could it be? I dont have warranty.
    My jlc reverso is so smooth , i dont have to pull out crown and push back in for it to be smooth wind.
    Which type of silicone/oil for the crown gasket do you recommend?

    cheap quarz watches, if they get stuck i swirl the movement in mineral spirit or brake parts cleaner, then add a little silicon oil to the mix so the parts get a very light touch of oil, then i put everything together drying it beforehand with a hairdryer, any tipps for improvement here?

    Thanks Mark. I have a cheap Chinese crystal remover that I’m always scared to use because it can mark the edges of the crystal. I would like to by a Bergeon one. I need to service an Omega seamaster cosmic that has a one piece case. It still has an Omega crystal (can see the engraving in the center). Currently the crystal isnt snugly fitted, I can get my nail under it, so I think it will come off easy. It’s got a tension ring in it. Are crystals like this reusable? How should I refit the crystal? I have a cheap Chinese press or the removal tool like the one you referenced. Thanks for any help you can give, because it’s a valuable watch. Ta.

    Hi! I have a watch I think is a Swatch Lylium (it's the same shape, but different colors and face). It has a single-piece plastic case except for a small removable cap for the battery. How would you try removing the movement from such a watch, does the crown just pull off or is there a different trick?

    Nice video. But, what if the watch doesn't have that type of crown/stem? Or is it usually the case that most watches with no back would usually also feature this type of split stem?

    • @karlmansson8319
      @karlmansson8319 8 років тому

      Well, it has to. No other way of getting the movement in or out otherwise. Some full case watches have a stem with a sloped wall slot for the setting lever, allowing it to come out in one piece.

    I have a Timex watch that belonged to my father that is a mechanical watch with a sealed back. There is a small round piece on the back (about the size of my thumb) that has a notch, so you can open that, but it is too small to remove the movement. The front is notched like the back of a Rolex. I have yet to attempt to open the small piece on the back using a notch tool and the front using a 30.5 mm die. Have you ever seen a watch like this? I was made in the Philippines and my dad was in the Marines, stationed in the Pacific during WWII.

    I have a quartz 18k gold watch by certina which is also just one solid block with a glass front, googled this mostly out of curiosity, I don't think it'll be worth purchasing the required things(including a new battery) just to sell it, I doubt It'll change the price I get much even if I can prove that it works, at least not since I'd have to spend time and effort to do this. I don't want to risk breaking it either in my newbie attempts to get it right. The one who buys it can do it themselves, at least all the functions I can test without battery works great. If all I needed to do was to pop it up and replace the battery, I'd likely do so even if I don't get much more.

      Yours it is a very old message but Citizen monoblocs usually can be opened with a usual case opener used under the bezel, under the bezel there is a thick rubber ring but nothing is screwed. As for the crown, that I am wondering myself because I am now servicing one and no matter what the crown does not seem to come out, maybe I am a bit too cautious...

    • @karlmansson8319

      Depends on the type of crystal that is fitted. In order to re-fit an acrylic, non-armoured glass you would need to have the case back off in any case, and use a crystal press. The best bet would be to get the back off somehow.

  • @dhc4ever
    @dhc4ever 6 років тому +1

    Not all mechanical front opening watches have a 2 piece crown, the seiko 6106-8500 and several others are front opening watchs with a one piece crown. You have to remove the crystal first to access the crown release lever, and then remove the crown.
    Watch repair it seems is not a one size fits all endeavor.
    Good video all the same.

    Does it works on Seiko Open Thru Glass Watch?

    • @dhc4ever
      @dhc4ever 6 років тому

      It would appear not, the crown is one piece and would be damaged if you yank it out.
      I opened my 6106-8500 this arvo, you need to compress the crystal slightly and lever it out to access the crown release lever. Seiko tool S-14 made from refined unobtainium is used to compress the crystal.
      A work around using a flat bit of 1 to 1.5mm thick aluminium with a suitably sized hole, (look on the back of case it will say open from front and a number ie 30 or 31, that number is the size in mm), cut into it and a small wedge cut out to allow the hole to be squeezed tighter, once you have sufficient tension to hold the watch, lever between the aluminium plate and the watch case, the crystal should pop out. We aren't talking a great deal of squeeze here just sufficient to hold the weight of the watch, the roundness and dimensions of the hole are also important.

      +Uchiha Sasuke hi,,some watches were made without a back that can be removed,,i have a Reckord (longines) and there is no back,,everything goes in through the front of the watch,,and because of this you usually find that its only the top drawer movements are used in such watches,,,rgds

    Great video! How about watches with a small back like e.g. Daniel W? Is it possible to use your technique on watches like this?

    hi,,have a circa 1960 Tudor royal,want to clean the dial,the case screws come out ok to remove the movt. however it seems stuck fast,,do i try screwing IN the case screws to remove movt. or is there something else preventing this?

      Try removing the stem and then unscrewing the screws about half way. Then rotate the movement in the case. I believe it is about 45 degrees, then it should fall right out
