I retired from the watch repair business when I was 29 , went to school for it at AWI in Harrison Ohio near Cincinnati ,Ohio , after I got into the precious metals and gems game & now own my own business with watch repair included , I don,t make the repairs in house my self , but I do have on hand certified watchmakers & repairmen . I found that the precious metals & gems are a more lucrative business when I was 27 thanks to my old friend who owned his own business all a crossed the USA & was old enough to be my grandfather at that age GOD rest his soul . Now at 49 I know how hard he had to work to become successful , Thank you Mr AC for showing me the ropes & listening to all of those Cincinnati Reds games wile we worked side by side & taking me under your wing , you are greatly missed .

It's just a fact of life, some jobs have higher earning potential than others. Working with precious metals and gemstones you make money buying and selling at the best price you can, and can do so repeatedly if you're good at your job. A horologist can ONLY do so many watch servicing and other repairs each day, and the marketable value for that skill is much more limiting. SO there never will be a really great day for the worker like there can be in the sales of precious metals and gemstones. And I'd venture a guess YOU are in it for the money at your job too,... am I right? 🙂

I have an Irony that I plan to have repaired hopefully next week. I called and visited many watch repair shops in the area and they turned down the repair. I did find a place that has Swatch certified staff which made me very happy. My watch was operating in the same manner in the beginning of your video. I bought my watch in 2000 at Heathrow airport. Fond memories of my trip. I want my watch back and running. Great video. No way I could remember how to reassemble those tiny pieces. I have a hard time replacing batteries in my watch collection. 😩

I just wanna know if that's the only method to release the stem or there are different methods, and what was the tool you were using? It's interesting to see. I envy your skill. I have a swatch Irony and I accidentally pulled out the crown. My brother gave it to me and I wore it for 16 yrs until that pulled out crown accident. Damn!
I opened mine, it was stopping then working. I did exactly what you did in the video. Now it stopped working completely. Maybe the plastic rivets are weakened?
Can a stem just be pulled out like that? Will the mechanism not get damaged? I know they usually have a trigger point on a mechanism, when it's pressed the stem is then released.

You have the patience of a saint. I have been changing batteries in alot of different brands of watches from cheapies to Coach brand, M.K. etc but there is one watch that is like superglued shut. I ordered a different kind of case opener for it (looks like a curved screwdriver) and within 5 minutes I sliced my hand open and had to superglue it shut (yeah not good). So I researched and narrowed down 2 snap back case openers (horotek and seiko). I ended up getting the horotec (cheap version) because seiko was 3 times the cost. But I'm waiting for it to come in the mail and was wondering if you could tell me if that is a good tool for opening a very difficult snap back case? Thank you.
@@watch-repair It is a square faced Coach watch. I've opened several other Coach watches with just a case knife but this one will not budge. I don't think it has superglue on it but it just feels like it does because of how much I tried and tried and tried. I didn't even have this much trouble with the Invicta divers watch! I have a Swatch Irony model - (ycs400g 1998- rough and rugged) , it's big seconds hand is not working, Chrono is also not working . wen i bought it it had a different battery than Renata. Yikes... I wish I had known this could be done before I threw away my beloved late 90s Irony Chrono (Secret Agent) a couple of months ago. From its behaviour, I'm guessing I had a few worn out cogs/teeth on that one as well, because the hands were starting to act weirdly and the second hand wouldn't reset properly any more. Oh well... it was a great watch for 20 years or so.

Hola es verdad no todos se pueden reparar, tengo un Irony de acero no funciona la aguja grande de segundos lo consulte con 2 relojerías expertas y me dijeron que tenía un ETA G10.211 que son sellados y son imposibles de arreglar que la única solución era cambiar todo la maquina, es verdad esto o me han querido ver la cara 🤔
@@odessanation No es verdad,la maquina para cámbiala debe ser la misma y ya no las hay,se pueden abrir para darles un mantenimiento y si quedan duran otro tiempo mas,también se podría cambiar por otra maquina que a mi me ha tocado cambiarlas pero no quedan igual y son muy complicados al cambiar las pilas cuando se acaban es volver a hacer todo el procedimiento. Por eso ya no hago esos trabajos ya no quedan igual como deben de ser de fabricación por el cambio de otra maquina nueva, son para durar sus años desde que son de la fabricación y hasta allí lo que duren sus máquinas con el trato que le de cada persona. You can't open up a system 51. They're hermetically sealed . Heated and glued plastic..
