The Petersens are my personal discovery of 2023 and I have never heard singers who are so individual on one side and so full of harmony on the other. I am an old jazz musician (80) from Germany and adore this universal repertory and the performance of these young people.
I believe I read somewhere that Katie, the violinist, does most of the arranging of the music. She plays piano as well. I’m sure they all contribute to production. They are all so talented!
Right you are Cathy. Read their bios, I've never seen a more high achieving family. Also they record all of their music live. God bless you and your loved ones.
They are special. I found myself listening to their video "How Firm a Foundation" over and over and over yet again. The interplay between the violin and the dobro brought back very special memories of mine from a special time forme.
Another pop/rock band they have covered is Coldplay. Check out their arrangement of “The Scientist.” I’m getting chills just thinking about it. It’s great and Emmett (on dobro) gets to sing, dueting with Julianne. The two bowed instruments are what really sell this. Katie on 5-string fiddle and Mom on bass violin really shine and make this number mysterious. Julianne’s voice is an acquired taste, but I love it.
I liked your review of "Landslide" by the Petersens! Based on your comments I highly recommend that you do a similar review of "The Cotton Pickin Kids" playing "Alabama Tornado" for their instrumentals or anything else for instrumentals and vocals. This is also a family band but much younger! Their ages range from around 19/20 to 10/11. The members playing in the band are the 5 oldest family members. There are another 5 still too young. Mother is from Louisiana and the father from Brazil. They live in Alabama. The father occasionally fills in on Bass. In my opinion their instrumentals are exceptional. The vocals are not as strong as the Petersens but the girls harmonize really well. Considering their ages they have lots of time to improve their vocals. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Listen to "I'll Fly Away" for a nice example of the Girls harmonizing. Also, 9:40 the oldest boy apparently composed the original song, "Alabama Tornado"! Also, the boy on the Dobro is only 10, I believe. Also, you will notice the father playing the upright Bass in one of the songs. The youngest girl fills in when she's not playing a 2nd fiddle. She's only 13/14!
Correction to my recent comment! The band I currently made up of 6 rather than 5 children from the family...3 boys and 3 girls. Also, if you have time check out "Rocky Top"! It has the youngest girl playing Bass and the middle girl on an electric guitar. They are so talented! Also, you mentioned how you enjoyed the interaction between the kids. In this case the boys are usually pretty serious but the girls make up for their stoicism as they are often smiling and glancing at each other.
Seriously fella - you're a Violinist .... not a Vocal Coach, arranger and no need to nitpick every element and constantly stop the flow of such great players and Harmony .... lighten up. Save the appraisal for the end of it. Thanks, jj

I agree totally...how beautiful are they all x
Not many singer's performances are so exquisite that their voices bring tears to my eyes. This performance is the exception. Amazing, and beautiful.
I’m just glad you give credence to them being favorite. Emmett is a very important member of that group
Love that the Petersen’s sing at a local Chick-fil-a in Branson, Mo every Saturday morning between 8-11 for the breakfast crowd.

Emmett Franz, the dobro player, works with Katie on arrangements, and Karen, their mom on chord progressions.
I love this family and their music.
I am also a very big fan. everything I hear is always.... perfect.\
“Wholesome”, is the term I feel when enjoying The Petersens. No Tatts. No vulgarity. No vice… Family
This listen/reaction is more a celebration.. thanks for celebrating the tune, my friend
Ellen/banjo in the middle, Katie on fiddle, Julianne on mandolin, Matt on guitar, Emmett on dobro, Karen/Mom on bass.

Yep wow
Beautiful 😊
Rob, if you get the time down the road, listen to The Petersens' (with Katie as the lead vocalist) version of 'Desperado'. It is GREAT...
Watch the two UA-cam videos of the Petersens with Ger Odonnell in Ireland...
Yes, this one: ua-cam.com/video/ecvIZ3agcLQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=GerODonnellMusic
I wanna go and live with them LOL
Great review, dude! You did the Petersens justice, and I respect you for it, man!
Wow!

Nice cover of The Chicks version of this song!
I think Emmett is viewed as family.

Chick in the middle 😡
"Chick in the middle"!! 😧You could have paid them the respect of finding out their names. I stopped watching at that point. 😠
