I had Teddy Ruxpin when I was a kid. My mom bought me one. The tape that I had and the book was Teddy Ruxpin's Lullabies. I played that tape every night when I went to bed.

I used to love my Teddy Ruxpin growing up. We still have him; my mom breaks him out every Christmas, puts him in his Santa Claus outfit (yes, she got him a bunch of his different outfits when we were little) and plays the Christmas story he had included. Thanks for the 'member-berries Ms. Legends.
Keep up the great work. :)

What are the odds that you uploaded this now. I just found my Ruxpin a couple of days ago and the first thing I had to do that night was to fall asleep listening to the tapes like I did 30 years ago. It brought a tear to my eye listening to it. Nostalgia can hit you hard sometimes.

An older video, but saw it today and wanted to thank you for it. I was 9 years old when Teddy Ruxpin came out... and I remember to this day how excited I was when I got him for my birthday. And not long after I got Grubby. I also remember my mother getting mad because of all the batteries I used in them by playing them constantly. So you just managed to take me back 36 years. And I thank you for those memories. :)

I worked in a dept store where we had a demo unit of these figures .
We had a few that had cosmetic flaws that we were supposed to destroy, but we kept them in the back to play various cassette tape albums .We linked them up to each other and of the boys was able to rig up a plug adaptor.
You haven't lived until you have heard/seen Alice cooper coming out of a teddy ruxpin/grubby duo.

I was given Teddy Ruxpin as a kid and I loved it. Unfortunately my first one broke down so I got another one but I always wanted Grubby to go with him. He and his stories kept me entertained because as the youngest I was ignored and often read or played video games when I got older. He and MY PET MONSTER were my first friends and I still love them to this day.

I bought both of these for my children in 1985. The first thing that went within the first year was Teddy Ruxpin's mouth movement, then the eyes. My children were very disappointed, although Grubby worked fine. When I reached out to the company for repairs on their product, I didn't receive an answer. No wonder the company went down hill soon after that. Grubby was no good after Teddy's tape player quit. A lot of money for a product that had a huge hype to it!

I came across a few Teddies at my local thrift shop. They were in good shape, and working. My brother was in love with it as a kid, so I bought one for him. His eyes welled up.
I sadly remember that shooting case. I gave did a report on it, for my social studies class. That case helped to lead to the legislation of mandating all toy guns having an orange tip.

Oh you're taking me back to my childhood with this one. I had Teddy ruxpin and grubby, as well as the all about bears book. When you were joking about rocking out, I was actually rocking out! I can't believe I remembered that song 🤣 this was a great look back, the only thing I would have added is the fact that that weird sound you hear every once in a while is a reminder to the children to turn the page in the book. :)

Hello Laura, it’s very interesting to discover the « true » Teddy Ruxpin since, well, in France, we most know the infamous bootleg version known as the Gabby Bear. From what I know, Gabby was a cheap and false Teddy Ruxpin (and a scary looking one) produced illegally in South Korea and sold internationally by Bandai. From what I know, the guys behind this lost in court against the Teddy Ruxpin producers (most of the Gabby Bear were then destroyed, but some copies can be found on eBay) The scandal was even more important in France, where a famous animated series producer tried to make French kids believe that the Gabby Bear was part of the Maple Town toy line. How ? He imported the Maple Town animated serie, cut the original opening, and then produced in haste a cheap one which included the infamous bootleg. The new opening was even supposed to be song by him : « Hello, I’m the Gabby Bear, you know, the Bear from Maple Town ! »

Hey! In my country Panamá) we did not have the interactive doll, but we did see the animated show. I should say that for the 80s, it had one of the most complex plot in the TV. Chapters were not self-conclusive and the core plot kept us tick to the screen. I claim for a Netflix's sequel.

I remember the laser tag shooting, I, unfortunately, sold my original Teddy way back, in 2006 I rebought him off eBay cheap, and got him for my 4-year-old son then. I still have him today but like yours, Teddy's eyes and mouth stop working and I don't have any of the tapes or books. Now Grubby was hard to find back in 1989 not too man where made and he was way more pricy then Teddy, but I never know that the round port on the back of the toy was for a cord good to know. And also never knew of the baby teddy or the projector, this is why I watch this video's I always learn something new. I got to work on getting Grubby...Oh like your teddy he is mint condition.

I had ALL the Teddy Ruxpin stuff when I was a kid. I had Teddy, Grubby, a ton of books / tapes, and the projector along with assorted projector "circle" cards. Oddly enough, when I was a kid it was I who had Teddy Ruxpin and none of my friends had one. (Basically the reverse of "everyone else has one, but you don't") Of course, other kids had a bunch of other cool toys that I didn't have so ... my parents probably just made decisions on which lines of toys they were going to buy.

I had a Teddy Ruxpin as a kid.
    Fun story:
I loved the cartoon and live-action short film.
My parents bought a Teddy Ruxpin and kept it in my crib.
It terrified me as a toddler.
The animatronics of the talking teddy scared me.
One day my mom walked into the room to find me pulling a "King Kong vs T-Rex" ripping the toy's jaw wide open.

Personally did not have a Ruxpin og, but some playmates did. What I do remember having more exposure to as a preschooler in the late 80's was a Mother Goose animatronic, white goose. I think it was the same deal with the tapes?

We had a Teddy Ruxpin. But I just remember him spending most of his time in the closet on the top shelf where we couldn't get to him without an adult present.
I do remember the cartoon though and seeing it in Walmart on DVD in the early 2000s.

Yes, in the 80's we were taught that pandas were not really bears, but now based on genetic evidence it's settled that they are.
