I like what they are doing with this Pantera tribute thing because this might expose Panteras music to a different crowd of people and in my opinion that is a great thing. It also gives younger kids a chance to hear those classic Pantera songs live in concert who weren't around when Pantera first started out as a band.
@@dog1331 Not even just the new generation, I think a lot of folks from past generations who never truly gave Pantera a chance back when they first started may now grow to enjoy their music. So, I think celebrating their music with Zakk Wylde on guitar is a good choice because Zakk is an incredibly talented and respected guitarist and he will draw a different crowd than Dime usually would because Zakk is more of a rock/Hard rock guitarist while Dime is more of a straightforward metal guitarist.
I wouldn't say it's a tribute band when Phil is doing vocal and Rex is on bass. Aftershock has always had older bands on their lineup.I went to the first 2 and 2016.
@@CosmoCreamer Well, yes they are by definition not a tribute band that is correct but these shows are a tribute to the Brothers it's never going to be Pantera again without the dudes who created that band who are now deceased. RIP Vince and Dime!
@@LeadMe2TheBliss absolutely right. But phil isnt doing in tribute to DIME and VINCE. I dont think he could give a shit about them. I know that Dime and Vinnie never wanted to do music with him again. Imthink Phil doing this and his gigs with the illegals doing Pantera songs right after Vinnie passed, was messed up. First time I saw Pantera was in 1996. Saw them at Ozzfest 2000 and with Slayer in 2001. There was no hetter sound than Dime playing live. No better sound than Vinnie beating the hell out of his kit. With all due respect to Benante and Wylde (I love Zakks playing so much, that I have 'bls' tatted on me) but this version of Pantera doesnt hit what so ever.
And if you look to Rex's right, waiting in the wings, you'll see that white beard. That is the mighty Bobby Landgraf , Rex's bass tech. The man keeping Rex on point!!
I was too young to see them in their hey day. But man Phil and Rex together and seeing them give tribute to vinnie and dimebag. Such an honor to witness it live.
I'll always love Pantera and will always be thankful for the 4 times I got see them play in the 1990s and 2000. I have to say this Tribute To PANTERA has greatly improved over the last year. Of course people are gonna say it's not Pantera. Dime and Vinnie the two brothers who made Pantera are gone but this an amazing band today regardless.
@@GonnaRunAmuck Pantera had 3 albums before Phil Anselmo but his voice forever changed their trajectory. No disagreement when it comes to Phil Anselmo being the absolute man.
@@gamerelated8985 You're actually agreeing with me on some things. Pantera would never have become the dominant Heavy Metal band that were/are absent Phil Anslemo. The musicality of Zakk and Charlie is very different sonically (totally and dynamically) from the live sound of Vinnie and Dime. One way or another I'm not gonna disrespect Pantera and I'm glad people of a much younger age are getting the opportunity they never would have gotten. If Phil and Rex didn't put this band back on the road.
@@danadane2501 I agree with you completely, I just wish they had called it ANYTHING else. It just feels "wrong" to call it Pantera with the Abbott brothers.
I was very critical of Zakk's tone (speaking as a big Zakk fan) for Pantera but whatever changes they made this year it's so much better and cuts well.

Can't talk about their whole career, but on the "Vulgar Display of Power" album, supposedly the whole album they tuned halfway between D and C#. I have heard this from multiple "Walk" tutorials from guitarists who sounded like they knew what they were talking about. As far as I can tell they're actually in C-natural in this video.
I feel the same, the only good thing about playing all those same songs, is that they improved A LOT, compared to when they started 2 years ago. But I also hope that they change the setlist for gods sake.
