    TY for this one. I used SET around the corners using Aad's SET patterns. It was truly fun.

    I guess it didn't bother anyone else that she missed placing the 1 in block 9 right in the beginning. Then I miss a lot of stuff myself so I can't talk too much. But I kept seeing it and expecting her to see it... lol

    One question to 11:54. Why is this a naked Single? Why can‘t the 8 be in Column 8 as well?

    • @twed57
      @twed57 7 місяців тому

      Basically it was a naked single because none of the other numbers could have been put in this cell. The other 8's in the block don't matter.

    I worked this out using Hodoku, and when I got stuck, it found a 2 string kite, the skyscraper, and a W wing. I'm still learning to find these advanced patterns and remember the rules.

    I did this without notations and solved it on the bais of the 27 pair quite visible in row 8 at col 2 and 7, plus the additional 27 bi-value cell at r2c2. A bit of mental gym to examine the restrictions this implied for the 2s and 7s elswhere followed by a couple of alternative scenarios and bingo, i got it and completed the puzzle in 20 minutes. No fishing for swordfish or inspection of high rise buildings for me, I am too dumb to see that !

    Great Video. I am enjoying watching you solve the puzzle. I was wondering you had mentioned that this puzzle was in HoDoKu; how did you get rid of the candidates but still be able to add them back later on? I am asking because when I hid the candidates but could not add them when I wanted to.

    When doing the chain, do you just randomly pick a cell to check? Do you check the chain only using cells with 2 candidates only? Thanks! LOVE your videos.

    Snyder notation can be done with the 9 in block 7!!!

    I beleive that the swordfish on 2s does not work it is explained. Assuming 2 in r1C1 implies that there is not 2 in r1c5, but it doe NOT imply the 2 is in r4c5, it can very well be elsewhere in the central box.

    I think it is better not to mix "Snyder" notation and candidates. I prefer that candidates are filled in to the centre.

    12:06 Why can't column 9's 4 be at row 8?

    • @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay
      @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay  Рік тому +2

      Because the cell in row 2 column 9 can ONLY be a 4 or an 8, and since we just place the 8 in that column, then it MUST be a 4. Check that cell and you'll see it can only be a 4 or 8. Once the 8 is eliminated, it has to be a 4.

    • @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay
      @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay  Рік тому +1

      no luck, just good pencil marking. That cell could only be a 4 or 8, so once the 8 is eliminated, it has to be a 4! Sorry I didn't explain that as I was doing it.

    12:05 - "This cell has to be a 4" ...ummm why is that? how did you come to that conclusion? As thorough as you are, you never explained that one.

    • @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay
      @LearnSomethingNewEveryDay  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Yola for the question. If you look at the pencil notation, that cell was a 4,8. Since we just placed an 8 above it in the same column and block, it can no longer be an 8, so it HAS to be a 4! Hope that helps!

  • @jwstanley2645
    @jwstanley2645 Рік тому

    Moving on from 1s to 2s, you did not look at all of the given 1's. Had you done so, you would have finalized the 1 in the lower-right block and pencilled the 1s in the upper right block. By starting a step but not finishing it, well, not so good, eh?
