      It's not that hard, if you really like this board and have patience just buy one piece at a time instead of buying the cheapest instant gratification build. That's how us with a job that makes $13 an hour do it.

      Yeah the price is a little eye-popping to most people (me included), but this isn't for your average consumer. It's not the "watch youtube and netflix all day" build, the "multitask with an office suite and web browsing" build, or even the "just bought a 1080 and 6700k" build. Like @Random Ryan said, it's aimed at people who have the budget and desire to buy the best of the best and play with all the extra features and functionality. Could most people justify buying this? Nah. My motherboard was $55 and I couldn't be happier.

    • @SmallEngineNut
      @SmallEngineNut 8 років тому

      Overpriced mobo's are not worth it as the X99-A will overclock just as well. At that price point you're just paying for the bells and whistles. Even JJ from ASUS says so.

    FYI to Paul and all reviewers who question the DVD in the box. I know this video is old, but for future reference. Not everyone has internet available all the time. When you need to connect to the internet to get a driver but the computer can't connect to the internet because it needs a driver, (and you have an optical drive) the DVD's become life savers (well, time savers). They are also insanely cheaper to produce than the smallest thumb drive, hence in 2019 you'll still find a DVD in your retail box.

    Very thorough review Paul. Regarding the issue with the RGB LEDs... Cablemod includes an "ASUS Compatibility Adapter" in the package which corrects the order of the R, G, B, and 12 volt leads to match the order used by the ASUS headers. I just finished a Asus Hero VIII Alpha build with Cablemod RGB LED strips and everything worked great. Of course, if they didn't send you the retail packaging that could explain why you don't have them. Cheers.

    I have this board and it's amazing. It's crazy expensive though, I cashed out credit card points and got it on sale and it was still almost $200. It was actually the most expensive single component of my PC.

    Hey Paul. At one minute in, it looks like you have what I think is called a double EPS connection at the top of that mobo. Two questions. 1. What is the difference between EATX which is on my Asus X99 board and EPS? And in Jayz latest "wetbench" video, he says he almost borked everything by plugging in the wrong cable up there on top. You have a double connection there also. 2. How did you know not to do what Jay did? Thanks Richard

    • @paulshardware
      @paulshardware  8 років тому

      @neccros007 8 років тому

      consider 2133, 2400, 2666, but don't pay too much more for the faster speed. Sometimes you can find bargains on 3000-ish speed memory too

      Honestly - I went from 16gb 1600mhz to 16gb 2166mhz (?) and I don't feel it anywhere.. at all .. really.. I actually thought of returning it for that reason, but then I found new home for the older set, and ended up keeping it. as much as for VR I'm not sure, but I believe it shouldn't matter, it's more about your graphics card I'd guess

    The problem I have with proprietary software like Aura especially from ASUS is, you'll get no updates for later operating systems, for instance a possible Windows 11. And the outcome will be, that you can't use the motherboards features anymore, if ever a new Windows gets released.

    Hey guys ! So, weird question... I've got an old machine with an X99-Deluxe and an i7-5820K and I'm looking to buy a better processor for that machine. I can easily find 5830K and 5960X on eBay but I was wondering if this MoBo would support a 6850K. Same socket, same chipset, but the fact that there's an X99-Deluxe *II* makes me wonder if the first one is somehow restricted to 5th gen chips. I can't find the information anywhere, not even on Asus's website.

    +Paul's Hardware Whats left for the WS board lol. Its gonna have to have 4 U.2 ports, two pcie cards and two m.2 slots, with a 4x4 wireless. This mobo kicks ass. better option than the ROG if you ask me. And this is coming from a guy that has a Crosshair 5 formula and a x79 rampage IV. Love my ROG mobo's but dat Deluxe life!
