Few tips that I use: * If you don't use 3rd seat memory spot. Move seat as forward and upright as possible and save it in your free spot. * 3rd row cupholders are a perfect place for holding toilet paper and/or some bigger camping lights. * You can buy or cut out from insulated foam (those cheap camping foams where one side is reflective) window covers for 3rd row windows (or even all windows). I attached them with suction cups for easy removal. Now you have privacy and it reflects heat in summer and helps to hold in warmth in winter. * You can open the tailgate from inside with a key remote even with no powered tailgate function. Just press the button and push. I know..elementary..just took me some time to figure this out 🙄 * You can buy window covers (socks) that you can pull over your door to cover windows. Those keep bugs out when you open the windows. Got them from aliexpress.
Wow, sweet tips all around Thank you. I don't think I have thought of any of them unless the paper position. I have roll of kitchen paper there usally for quick and easy cleanup if I spill something or need to get stuff of my hands. 3 memory spot, not in use, great tip. Closing up the windows with foam, great tip, I haven't thought of that since it's been winter and dark. Thermo tip is a bonus there and with the suction cups. 🙂 Keyfob button, never tried it, and need to test that. Genius. Window socks, and summer bugs.. I have to make a list of all the mods I need. Being winter and all there is a lot that has slipped my mind. Thank you so much, I just got more excited about the build. Best, Simon.
Thank you for the video. And to show your sleep setup in the disco. I also sleep in my disco 3. But my sleep setup is much different. I sleep higher in the disco , because the frontrunner draw setup and engel fridge. The good thing is that you put a lot of gear inside and it is more organised. The down side is, you getting more difficult in side the car because of the height. i drive now more then 28 years land rover and i owned 8 land rovers over that time. And in all i make a sleep setup inside. I don't like rooftop tents , because the car get top heavy. ATB Raymond and Go on with the good video's.
Thank you Raymond! 👍😁 Good to hear from others doing the same. I have looked at the frontrunner draws, I find them a bit expensive so I’m thinking I’m going to build something my self. I also want to have room for a fridge at the back so definitely going to be sleeping a bit higher as you. I can’t have a roof top tent on as I can’t get the Disco in the garage then. 😊 But will try this out for a while and do changes step by step. Thanks for watching and have a great Sunday. 👍😁 Best, Simon.
Great video, great car. I say that because I also have a Red 3. The 4 leg type camp stretcher also fits in and is super comfortable, better than an air bed in my opinion.
Hey and thank you! And I couldn’t agree more to the car being great, especially in red. 😂 I never tried the stretcher inside the car and now with the new setup there is no longer room. More videos on about this on the channel. 👍 I’m thinking of getting another mattress to sleep on, a bit softer and more agreeable with my back. 😊
Thanks for the video, Simon. Lots of useful insights - I'm liking the re-purposed luggage retention net as overhead storage. I could use that for sure. 👍🏻
You are very welcome Steve. 👍🙂 The net was a happy coincidence. It's the original net that I found in one of the side storage compartments in the back. I thought I would try it out and see, and it has been there ever since. 👍 Cheers!
Thank you very much! So glad you liked it. Russia, nice, some day we will try to overland over there. Not too far to drive to cross the border into your huge country, looks like you have endless overland and offroad opportunities over there. Simon 🙂
Hey and thank you! 👍 I find the back of the Discovery to be a nice place to sleep so have done it for about two years now. I have made some changes as seen in this video: ua-cam.com/video/AhhqOwSZNQw/v-deo.html - And now I'm planning to redo it all to make the bed bigger so that my wife can join again. 😁
@@LandRoverDrive I use the bed either in middle or on passenger side. I can move and keep passenger seat forward, at anytime. Yet, with the tailgate form I can see why you opted for a driver side bed setup 😊
I tried it first the other way around, but with the fridge needing a standing location I ended on drivers sid. Worked great but we will see if it gets change around when I get some more stuff modified. CHeers.
Yeah, there is some good spaces to use. I have used it for my camping chair, tarp and the first aid kit. Think I need to do a water container there in the center. I have med a solution but need to redo it to get it the way I want it. :)
Nice, I have done a rebuild of the back now but I can still remove my drawers and put a double mattress in the back. I really like sleeping in the back of the car. New video will be out tomorrow morning where you get a glimpse of the new setup. 😉
Just a thought ... you could probably rig a triangular piece of rip-stop fabric with velcro onto the inner & upper rear-door frame and a fully wound-up rear door window, to provide modest shelter in case of rain or snow, when exiting that door or putting on boots. Being a light fabric, it would drape inside when you close the door.
Aaa, smart, like a rooled up tent window that can be unrolled and put up. Defenitely need something so I can have the windows open. I'm getting curious on how this is going to be in the summer with the sun baking the car.. :)
@@LandRoverDrive lol ... You'll get on much better in your Disco than I would in my Defender 90 in the Summer! I've seen online, a number of options regarding the attachment of an awning to the side of the vehicle (pretty much like a tent) but that wouldn't be practical in snow! I think you'd find an overhead top as described, a useful & inexpensive form of cover to aid entry & exit, during inclement weather.
Yeah, it's a good tip, and I have done it multiple time when hiking and camping. Only thing is that I would be careful to do this with really wet cloths and a sleeping bag filled with down as the down could "collaps" and the sleeping bag will loose parts of it's insulaiting capabilities. With a syntetic fiber sleeping bag you don't have the same risk of fiber collaps even though you could loose some of it's warmth if it gets wet. 🙂 I keep a spare set of cloths for sleeping in, that way I keep the sleeping bag dry and I know I'm always going to be warm during the night. I don't mind the cold start in the morning as it gives you that little kick in the back and wakes you up. 😀 Thanks for watching Hans and sharing your experience on the matter. :)
Nice, it have worked great for years both in the Defender and the Disco. I was missing a roof rack though to put all the "dirty" stuff on to free up some space inside. Especially the maxtrax. Working on the new setup now and I'm hoping it will be even better.
Hey and thank you! 🤗 Glad the video could help you out. LR3 with the V8 👌 Would like to drive one someday. 😊 More videos about the Discovery and my different setups on the channel and there will be more. 😉 Simon
Hey Simon. Two things I noticed. Firstly, you’re the only person I’ve seen who goes to sleep with a gopro on your head. Lol. Secondly, you tend to slam the Disco doors. With my D2, I just push click them when egressing and gently pull click them after entering. On another note, you might find one of the roll up closed cell mats to go on top of the blow up mattress. This will insulate you from the cold air in the mattress. Lots of people make the mistake of putting the csm under the mattress which defeats the purpose. Thanks for the effort you put into this production. 👍🏻🙏🏽🙏🏽😷😷🦘🦘
Hey Grahame and thank you for a great comment. Much to talk about here. :) As a youtuber you almost always go to sleep with a gopro on your head, hehe. When it comes to the door slamming, the Discovery 3 seems to be so air tight that the air pressure makes it a bit harder to close. That being said, the front doors maybe needs some adjusting after so many years of usage. I will do a test to check it out, with another door or window open while closing. The great thing about the Exped mat, also called Exped Downmat, is that it is filled with down feathers to prevent the "cold feeling" you get with regular mattresses. This mat has an R-value of 8, which means temåeratures down to -38*C. :) But great point, not everyone know this about air matttresses and I was well grown up before I learned it. So hopefully many reads your comment and can learn from it. I also always bring the mountain blanket as a backup to be sure. BTW, the D2 that has been on the channel before is going to come with us on future trips as he now has time again. :) Thank you for watching and supporting me, really appreciate that. Best, Simon
Nice tip, not a problem were we go in Norway though. But for unknown countries when you travel that's smart. 👍 I sleep with the rear top hatch open to get air in, I just put something in between so it doesn't close, or latch in. Gives a lot of fresh air and easy to open and get out that way if you need to. I have now put it some more stuff, drawers and a sleeping platform, so sleep much higher, and above the height of the lower tailgate. Will be a video on that later. Thanks for watching and sharing your tips and experiences, it's what makes this channel better. 👍 Best, Simon
That is the question... Ironic engough, being that I'm driving a Land Rover, I did not use the tools or the recovery gear. I do have a lot of stuff with me and some of it could surely been left at home, But I don't think I'm the worst either. I did not use my multifuel, as we used the campfire to make food and my jetboil to make coffee. So that's one. The tarp did not get used as I have nothing on the roof to attatch it to. And second pair of boots, but I will never go on a winter trip with out an extra set of clothes and boots, no matter how short it is. 😀 And my dry food box was a bit overkill. Thanks man, actually a great thing to do every time you get back from a trip. Cheers, Simon

Thanks you for great feedback and for questioning my packing. :👍🙂 I'm learning as I go just like any other overlander out there. My Discovery build will have focus on less is more and focus on the weight put on it. Keeping it light and also road legal and safe. Cheers.

Yeah, it’s 100% flat so it’s like it was made for it. 😊 Will see how I’m going forward with the build. I definitely need to do some mods.
