so... there's 30+ hours of material from the second From A Basement... sessions that we will never hear, i'm told. he'd planned a double album for it as you may know and it's said quite a darker one than the one we know. now, it's a pretty dark record already imo (Coast To Coast man those words), but i guess in addition to music, a lot of the recordings are him talking about his life and stuff, opening up on things. so what else i'm told is that out of respect for family and friends, they will never release this stuff. this makes me sorry because i can handle it i think and i simply adore the man, but understandable. in any case, wow is there a lot of unreleased stuff and it's all so great. we are very fortunate indeed

Chris Andrew absolutely. I've been writing songs for awhile & im nowhere near as prolific as Elliott, but a lot of things get left. an Eyedea line again comes to mind. "And in my brain's a junk drawer I'll never organize. The first to come and last to leave will never be immortalized." another man with tremendous communication skills.

+TheKeenGuy mm there's a couple songs of his which are pretty much essential in my opinion & which are missing from grand mal. is a little odd - as some of the stuff on later CDs i doubt i'll ever bother to listen to - but at least the first four or five CDs are absolutely brilliant from start to finish. and the later ones do have some great stuff on - ''i figured you out'' with mary lou lord is a lovely song hell though - i don't mind too much that there are some holes in grand mal. ain't no fun when it's made too easy for ya :)

+bacardi119 will try ta answer yr question - background / explanation is first paragraph, if you don't care about that though then jus skip ta 2nd paragraph for my attempt at an answer. incase ydon't know - after figure 8, elliott + jon brion went to the studio to work on elliott's next album together. they had at least half an album's worth of material not only written but also fully recorded & good to go - but then they had a big bust up over elliott's drug / alcohol intake and elliott burned all of the recordings they'd done, started the album from the beginning again with all new songs. the new songs ended up (with a few exceptions) together under the name 'from a basement on the hill' my guess - though it is just that, a guess - is that this mighta been one of the songs intended for the lost album that was originally going to follow figure 8. the backup singer in this sounds like jon brion & this was recorded in summer 2000 i think, so that's my guess.
