- We found an engine. time to check it out and see if it's any good. Last thing I want to do is spend all that time fitting an engine that's no good.

Another great video. Sorry to see engine didn't work out for you guys. Quite entertaining to watch as always. Looking forward to next video..
Love this stuff...
I have ran into the same issue buying used "good running" engines only to pop head and find disaster and disappointment..
Thanks for sharing the real deal w us such a cool video for me to follow and you are indeed a master at your trade
Cheers for watching, glad you enjoyed it. More fun for you than it was for me!
Garage / workshop I use had one of these boat anchor engines. They didn't bother with it. A low mileage Ford 1.8 Endura turbo diesel with gearbox adapter which they had machined to fit was fitted in its place.
Me conta mais sobre essa adaptação, o câmbio continuou funcionando normalmente ? Abraços
Excellent video. Never been so interested in my life.
Glad you liked it.
You have the patience of a Saint.... excellent work. But my god it would put you off Range Rover s etc with that 2.7.... 👍👍
Been thinking of buying a discovery for a while now. After watching you and Christian (LR Time) I wonder whether it would be a bad idea. Great Videos.
Unbelievable. Great job 👏
Nonway im so glad i bit the bullet and brought a running jaguar for my range rover project,so man con artists 😮😮
Very interesting. Great channel 👍😎
1500 sovs for a duff engine...I think I would be hot footing it back to where I brought it from...the number of blogs on re building these engines on YT is unreal...hope you get a result...👍👍
Another great video 👍 definitely wouldn’t inspire you to get a LR with miles on it.
Ouch
Great video by the way
Nice bro 👊👊👊
I hate removing glow plugs. Last one I did on a 4jj1 isuzu, two snapped off and forced a head removal just to get the ends out.....
I think the rounded off sump bolt should have been a clue.
Hello my friend, I see your video I think you are crazy, he’s so big work but nice. I’m French I have the Jaguar XJ with the same Engine She walk good She have today 170000 KLM not so much problem🥵 thank you for your video. From bruno in France saint Raphael 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching 👍
any videos on bleeding the discovery 3 clutch pedal , what way would you reccomend to do it
Shame about engine. I'd be getting my money back. You could bore that and fit a liner, I've done loads back to standard size. But I think you need to strip that other engine, choose best block and rebuild one out of two 👌
I'd be hot footing it down to the bloke that sold the engine for a refund! Nice video mate.
See the rest of the series. I rebuilt it.
I have a 2007 discovery 3 tdv6. When the first right piston was on top centre the left camshaft pully don't lock in place. I have to force back to lock it. When i do that the valve knock on piston. Because the valve is open off course. The left valve is slight off also. The camshaft looking good but Do you think the camshaft is twisted. This is possible.
The engine doesn't time at tdc. It times in a safe position so no valves will touch the pistons when the cams are turned. Seems to me that you have the crank in the wrong place.
Swap out the crank is the easiest option.Must be ok if it survived a runaway.
Looks as if that engine was designed to fail.
I don’t envy anyone owning one of those vehicles. They sound to be an absolute money pit .☹️
Fantastic to drive tho :)
They are not a money pit. Just keep up with the servicing, they are good as gold. Don’t believe everything you read which mostly from sad individuals
@@peanuts2105 servicing isn't going to stop the crank from snapping, that is through design
Getting my money back would be #1 for me!
Haha when that bloke dabbed his hankecheif on the crank at 5:26. Bet he got annoying sfter a bit chunnering on.😂
This new engine is from?
Can the bottom end be repaired on these engines in general? Or is it a short motor. Thanks
Ps id be well pissed off all that work for nothing
Yes it can be rebuilt but everything has to be exact or it will fail again
I think I have a boost leak from one of my inlet manifolds (it's a 2.7). Do you know if they are hard to change?
Yeah. They are a pig to do with the engine in
@@pistonbroke might be a little easier on mine. I think it's the left bank and it's a Jaguar XJ. On the Jag the housing for the cabin filter comes off with four bolts and then you can get all round the engine. I did the pump belt on the back of the engine that way.
Oh ok. Jag is way easier than a land rover
If I add a forged crank or billit crank will it last a long time?
Billet cranks are used in race engines, they don't break. Forged cranks are used in the Australian Ford teritory with the same engine, apparently they don't fail and the Aussies are fitting teritory engines into land rovers.
You said the replacement engine came from a Jaguar, assume you mean the XF. But I've not heard of the same crankshaft failures in the XF?
Yes, came from an xf and yes jags have been known to break cranks
Oh shit!
Buy cheap, buy twice! Good effort and video on your part anyway Steve.
Perhaps the customer should consider buying a known, good, running engine from a low mileage Disco 4/RRS insurance write off. Putting a crank into a block which has previously snapped a crank is asking for trouble. I would also get all six injectors sent off for testing and replace any ones that are out of spec. Any imbalances in these 306DT engines significantly increases the risk of it happening again.
Kevin Watkins Have you seen the prices of these engines? A low mileage one would be too expensive, It would be cheaper to buy a new car than do that. I’ve put cranks in before with no problems as long as the block is good.
They don't snap crankshafts because of injector imbalance
@@paulhancock3844 They do. One cylinder putting out more power than another puts enormous stress on an already weak part of this crap engine..
@@Draxindustries1 bollix honesty, why don't all diesel engines do it then? Modern diesels well even my 20 year old land rover td5 measure the pulse given by each cylinder on the crank and change injector duration to balance them up, if they are out of range the ecu throws up a check engine light and the engine goes into limp home mode. There is no way this can damage the crank
@@paulhancock3844 It does affect this engine though is its a very weak design, it takes very little to snap the crank. I don't understand anyone wanting to refit with another. Either retrofit with something strong and reliable or just scrap the car and move on from LR..
at least the crank is good
I know wat I would do but can’t say lol but probably the same as you would like to 😊
Yeah, ram it up the sellers arse sideways with a sledge hammer.
Do u have a sledgehammer, that will make it run
This engine is actually not a bad engine. Only two things really go horribly wrong. Like you’ve seen the crank is a massive weak point and the injectors doing what we’ve just seen. I build these things everyday. The company I work for specialise in them it’s all we do so if you’d like a rebuilt engine let me know we have them built instock sitting on the shelf
hi how much to supply and fit jaguar 3.0d engine please.
So what’s the key to stop them snapping the crack, I have a 2010 and I’m just waiting for it to happen! I let it warm up and drive it steady with plenty of servicing, I’m hoping that will give me a reliable engine... it is really piss poor, you say the engine isn’t that bad yet there’s plenty of owners out there who will disagree...it’s quite a common problem which should never happen in a vehicle of today!

@@PillSharks as far as engines go it is actually really good. The main issue is the crank. I know this is a massive issue but when you look at other engines that have multiple issues not just the one. The best way to avoid the crank snapping is not to load the engine. So not pulling off from a stand still hard and fast but rather slow and steady. The other main reason for them going is towing massive loads. Stupid I know cause landrovers are ment to tow but the strain it puts your engine through with pulling off and accelerating with weight behind it puts all engines through a massive amount of strain. Regular oil changes and services has no effect on the cranks life span at all ( unless u only change the oil once in a blue moon and end up blocking the oil galleries). The number 1 rule is if you suspect the crank has gone or the car just won’t run or run right do not keep trying to start it or run it at all. If you damage the mains housings in the block it’s a very expensive fix if you can find an engineering machine shop that is willing to line bore the block. Or the block could be scrap where the broken crank will push the front main housing out of alignment completely. I hope this has helped you and you understand a bit better. I’ve tried to be as clear as possible. The other point to make is the 2.7L is more likely to snap a crank than a 3.0L simply because the crank in the 3.0L they made out of a different material but due to the design of the crank the weak point remains the same.
@@steveorom This is nothing more than a boat anchor of an engine. If a diesel in a 4x4 can't stand a bit of abuse without the crank snapping it's totally useless.
All well and good rebuilding them but without a brand new forged crank of a new design is fitted (which are not available) the engine will just shit itself over again..
Nightmares these engines.
Omg ! 🙉💰
Put a 5.0 supercharged in it and call it a day.
Sure is Kangaroo Kev's cousin. ROO TED!
What a nightmare
12:31 :-)
Get the money back if you can pal
Range Rover 3.0 sport are pure scrap , there’s loads of them going bang
Enjoyed the video and fancied a rangerover until I watched this far far to much work to change a flawed engine.
These are as good as Audi and vw engines
Nah, these LR 3.0D V6 are the worst ever made, ticking time bombs all of them
WTF ! did you your money back ?
Je suis mecanicen automobile 10ans
Reliant`s have better engines than than this
I used to work for JLR back in the states and those engines are junk.
Avoid British brand cars if you don't have the money. Period
I think you'll find French cars are the worst and this engine is made by psa (Peugeot/citroen). It is also fitted to some Ford trucks in the USA and Australia.
You total prat. It may be in a ?British car but was designed in France and made by PSA in France so what do you say to that?
@@pistonbroke Funny thing none of the Australian models did crankshafts. Must be a LR sourced part...
