This movie was _MUCH_ better than I expected it to be. I was thinking it was going to be cheesy🧀 AF, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Sosie Bacon should've been nominated for an award for her performance. She _REALLY_ looked like someone who'd been traumatized. What's the point in trying to be funny while watching a horror movie? That's fine, but when you miss the jumpscare build ups over your own voice, that's kinda annoying.
I am only guessing, the people who came up with this ripped off elements of Insidious (images of the ghosts breaking out into creepy smiles), the Ring (watching something infects you with an evil spirit), and The Happening (gross self-mutilation or suicides). Not very original to create an amalgam of other peoples' ideas.

I watched a cool interview with the director that made this movie 10 times better. He says that some viewers think it’s jsut a typical jump scare horror with little depth but that EVERYTHING in the movie is a clue to the viewer of what’s going on, there’s zero cheap jump scares. He says to pay attention to every detail & ask why it’s there or why it happened . He gives the example of all the areal shots saying it’s not just an artistic drone shot. Early in we have the upside down flying shot , it’s not steady , it’s panning around and upside down. He said notice in all the flying shots & other parts when the disturbing sounds are playing, it’s not a filler drone shot with creepy sounds. He said his inspiration was remembering seeing “Devil” the upside down flying shot which M. knight did to represent the demon , upside down because it’s on the hell side of the veil , down in hell, looking up (the upside down) we are seeing through the demons eyes as it is flying to end the girls life it’s been harassing , picking the therapist as the next victim knowing her early trauma as a child. The sounds he was inspired by “Sinister” sounds that represent the demon working. This director added the sounds which he states are what he imagined the audio of hell , the chaos and evil of the demon. The sounds are when the demon is near or in flying shots we are hearing what the also tourmented demon is hearing. He says in Christianity demons are fallen angels that are in hell for eternity , tormented like evil souls that end up there. There’s no peace and quiet flying around the world looking for souls with bodies to torment , when flying it’s also tormented , we hear the sounds of hell in its realm as it flies , it wants the misery it is experincing forever to be felt by those on earth with bodies. As it flies to the hospital it looks down at the screaming patient taken out of the ambulance , then back forward as it passes thru the glass into roses empty office , he said the crooked shot up in the corner of the ceiling when she comes back in to get the phone represents the demon watching rose. Knowing what the drone shots represent and the sounds , the movie takes an entirely new shape, throughout the entire movie we experince the demons view, it fit flipping upside down as it follows roses car to the childhood home etc. he says EVERY jump cut is more than a jump cut /jump scare, the jump scare isn’t to scare the viewer, the jump cuts are exactly what rose is experiencing as well. He explains what some critics disliked, rose not reacting while she cuts her throat in front of her until, Joel kicking the door down then standing and watching her slowly take her life when he KNOWS what’s happening,.. he said as the girl says the demon makes her do things, no control of your body, when the trauma is beggining the process of swapping victims , the demon uses that trauma and takes its first hold but it’s not broke them down so it can only possess the body , make them watch, unable to help but they’re seeing what’s going on. Joel’s a cop, he’s madly in love with her , drives all the way out kicks the door down then just stands watching her slowly take her own life in the worst way when he knows what’s happening , he also knows it is passing to him, he’d be beyond capable of taking 5 fast steps knocking the matches out of her hand and restraining her , saving the love of his life but he doesn’t , he freezes and watches her do it. The director said he hoped all the scenes of transfers made it clear that the demon is manipulating the new victim physically but said a lot of negative reviews didn’t catch it so it wouldn’t make sense. The marketing of putting actors in big events like baseball games, basketball games before the trailers even released was done to plant a disturbance seed in viewers. The baseball game rained out with the smiling woman that never leaves for cover sitting in the rain by herself smiling for 90 minutes went pretty viral, then other events , a number of these events around the country got those thst see it series out with no explanations for weeks and some months when the trailer dropped. He wanted the future viewers to actually expeirnce the smiling people before knowing it’s connection. He believs that’s why it did SO amazing in the box office. The ENTIRE cast and crew that made 1 committed to 2 to make sure there’s no let down in 2. It will follow Joel which was genius to get us loving Joel through the movie as the only one that supported her , from the start of #2 , now all the viewers will have a conection to Joel from the first scene so the movie can focus on the horror. 2 is filming now and mrs Bacon is on the cast list but obviously died , so I’d say that tells us she’s going to be who Joes sees as the demon. The love of his life he never got over kills herself in front of him and he didn’t stop her, not much more trauma than that scenario. Smart. He also said the head in mouth s nene shows us the actual demon in true form , the burned melting skin from the fires of hell. I wish reactors had seen or read the interview/article becasue the movie is so much deeper than what u feel in a quick watch. Knowing this stuff watch again on your own, much better! EVERY jump cut AND JUMP scare is PART of the story , NOT just a jump scare for viewer. Watch again knowing this. He also said to watch the dark areas saying there are scenes that he hasn’t heard discovered , demon in the trees, in dark rooms as you pass. He was inspired by hereditary that way. The first girl she meets that has it says she’s missing time and that it makes her do things along with some other clues. When she is laying in bed and then it cuts to her in the middle of the street , it wasn’t cutting to her walking accross the street into her day. We’re seeing it from her point of view. Notice when she yells in the street, she’s standing facing the car which she obviously would see comming so when her eyes go shocked seeing the car she just “woke up” standing in the street facing the car. The director said to watch every single scene closely because it’s much deeper than it seems, he said to notice earth on when it cut scenes and she’s standing in the break room , we see her from outside the room and she’s standing completely still staring at the wall 2 ‘ in front of her motionless. A man walks in and she doesn’t react until he says hello . He said to notice the confused look on her face as she looks around and down at the cup in her hand which has a smiley face on it. Her face looks like she’s completely freaked out and confused . Interestingly the demon is a dick, when possessing her it picks up the smiley face glass just to mess with her. It continues to break down her emotional well bieng making her feel crazy. The missing time the original girl mentions and it making her do things we see is the demon taking possession of them just messing with them. We know the demon isn’t a physical bieng like in It follows , so when it cuts to her wrapping the present she clearly was taken over prior and took care of mustache and wrapped him up, comming to when the present is half wrapped. Like actual possession the demon is breaking her down and as more happens she believes more giving the demon more and more power. We also see you can’t just kill your self or go somewhere and be alone becasue the demon simply takes over or shows you a fake reality as in the end . She decides to kill Karl gets to the hospital and the demon obviously knows so before exiting the car it takes over and gives her a dream letting her play out her plan but she wakes up still in the car. You can’t take your own life, you can’t kill someone else , the demon is just leading you to the next pick .
