This guy is off the scale. Obviously massive name in funk pop, but should be so much more respected amongst rock players and guitar players in general. He understands every inch of the fretboard.
You know I really like this comment. With guitar everyone focuses on shredding, pull offs, tapping but rhythm guitar is a total (overlooked) science. Clearly, Nile is just a towering giant of music and an incredible rhythm guitar player, he's like the Hendrix for rhythm players. Prince was just on another planet with his rhythm guitar playing, it's insanely good. David Byrne is a really good rhythm player. Love these guys, their so musical. If you're a right hand guitar player, it's in the right hand, rather than left hand, I reckon. And the other way round for a lefty (Hendrix was an astonishing left hand player and his left hand really was the one that made him number 1 player).

I love when musicians sit down with their instruments and play and explain music. So much Genius is lost when you don't know what you're really listening too. All the songs he went over seem so much greater now.
That is how you tell musicians whose souls are in their music versus the ones just on a stage to feel camaraderie or fame. Not to say there are no exceptions, but any musician who becomes worth his weight can break down and explain something, regardless of exactly how nerdily technical and filled with music-theory terms it is. There remains some ability to gift to you the conceptual understanding of this complex art, filled with light and shadow, every musician with their own personal struggles, in life and with certain aspects of the rules and guidelines of music and theory. So much color, never black and white, so many shades, and he's giving you some secrets on how to slip around, beat, break some of those rules and guides. The inner workings of an inner world.

Aye I've always loved this kind of half-chord and single note funk/disco groove songs as a guitarist. On the surface it sounds simple but it's actually damn hard because it requires immense precision. If you ain't bang on time; bang on technique (no slip ups sounding off other strings or sloppy vamping); or bang on volume dynamics it just sounds horrible.
@@davidallen346 no disrespect to this giant of music Nile Rodgers, or John Frusciente both of whom I really love, but check Prince, he was a total master of that funky, scratchy rhythm guitar playing. It's a real skill, maybe even more skilful than shredding, tapping, pull offs etc. David Byrne was also a great rhythm guitar player. It's the right hand (if you're right handed) that's the most important thing with this playing.
He is one of the musicians who really understand and feel the theory and apply it correctly in practice! What a feelin` of rhythm and groove! A true funky MAN!
Nile's stuff isn't the kind of thing I would normally listen to but, to be fair, the bloke is awesome. Seems like a nice, humble guy with a sense of fun and a genius ear for melody and groove. Great video.
Bernard Edwards is the coolest bass player of all times, serious groove maker, extreme sense of melody and rythm, and pure taste. Old original Chic´s trademark
This legend seems to stay young and natural forever... how can a man be so positive and cool after all those years in music business? A real master of life.
Nile is one of a kind. Been following this man since day one, and his style is unparalled. Nile & Nard created amazing music when Chic was at it's peak. Of all the guitarists in the world, when you hear Nile, you KNOW it's Nile. God Bless Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson.
I love Nile Roger’s.. he is one hell of a guitar player and musician.. and every time I’ve seen him on tv, he is so humble. A true musical giant who is a fabulous human … wow.👍👍👍
Can’t believe I was lucky enough to see Nile live recently and can’t wait until I see him again. A Chic gig is ingenious riffs start to finish. He’s a one off.
Love this guy! He sprinkles class to all his and others music. I'm not a fan of pop (at least the soulless manufactured variety), but I haven't heard anything I dislike from Nile Rogers.
As a guitarist myself I always look up to players that create the groove, the rhythm, Nile Rodger’s does that with abundance, yet most people rate guitarists for the solos and speed playing 😴😴. Nile is one of a kind and I love him for that. Much respect 🎸❤️
Not only a musical genius, but always comes across as a very humble and extremely nice person. His influence and contribution to popular music has put him up there with the greats for me 👌 Well done Nile to all your lifes work achievements 👏👏👏👏👏
I saw Nile and Chic recently in Nassau. Astonishing is not the word. Songs with simple lyrics like "I Want Your Love" have always been made meaningful by the fantastic music and performance. I am so glad Nile is fond of Georgio. My friends and I were too when we discovered Chic. What a guy.
Too bad Bernard never got to making such uplifting clinics, Nile's guitar and Bernard's bass were downright magical together ...not to mention Tony's amazingly smooth yet exciting drumming
These vids can cut out learning time for some people by decades. And I mean that literally. They just have to have that passion for it with the basics in hand. Bless you people.
the UTMOST respect! one of the very best! it's also worth noting how the chords have a warm, almost bossa nova like feel. this could easily be brazilian music!
Yeah, I was trying to play some of Nile's stuff these days and it could easily be some traditional rhythm cavaquinho playing (rhythmically at least). Both are based on 16ths with lots of syncopation.
I've always loved him, and I'm a major ROCK player and lover. David Bowie, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Jeff Beck, Zappa, etc., But....I've always adored soul and analog funk as well (JB, Funkadelic, Ohio Players, TOP, Bar-Kays, AWB, Kool & The Gang, etc.) jazz fusion too. And when I started playing in 1976 at age 10, both ROCK and FUNK were huge for me. So when I discovered Chic in '78-'79, it felt as natural as that maple fretboard that Nile Rodgers has abused with unbridled, joyous passion ever since. And man, those jazz elements made disco cool. Everybody Dance, Le Freak, Good Times, etc. No one could say "Disco Sucks" when they heard those killer, heartbreaking changes in "I Want Your Love" ...It's the sound of genuinely falling in love. The real shit. And then what he did for other acts such as Sister Sledge. And to me, their two greatest numbers, "He Is The Greatest Dancer" and "Lost in Music" is absolute magic! ✨ So for me, this is nothing new. This is one of the greatest guitarists, and guitar innovators ever. Plus, a great guy too. You can't lose with Nile. Marc ⚡

It's more than music!
what strikes me is his modesty. A true musical genius.
la freak nile one of the legends
so many back then
I believe that he truly appeciates his fans, of which I am one.
His guitar sounds very good in this video
David Allen that will be his magic fingers. He could make any strat sound great. However that one is pretty special

I wish he and Prince wrote an album together!!!
That would be so sick...
I was thinking the same exact thing!!Maybe a duo on " sexy mother f..song that Prince did..But Prince did a lot with Larry Graham..rip Prince..
They are equals in my eyes. We are blessed to still have Nile. We must appreciate him.
Trueeeeeeee
That would have lit the heavens on fire
Absolute legend. Bringing jazz knowledge into a pop context and creating some of the best songs ever made.
a little class from the master Nile Rodgers and for free!!! this is priceless
His sense of melody is so incredibly strong. BUT he is known as a rhythm player!!! How awesomely beautiful.
But you always hear great voice leading in his rhythm playing.
Sorry I found this late. But I'm a Chic fan since the beginning in the 70's. Class is in session with a master.
and that tone, that guitar is part of his body
That's because chord progressions are based on a melody first, that's why what he plays always sounds so good.
If only the song was a raw as this.
I LOVE THOSE MINOR CHORDS I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE THEM THEY ARE SO SMOOTH AND CLASSY MAN
Some people have the gift of music. Some have the gift of teaching. He's a natural at both.
Indeed
And he has the gift of storytelling as well, he’s great to listen to.
Absolute living legend.
Brilliant musician, so many jams over the years! Whoever thumbed down this video definitely claps on one and three.
Haha, brilliant!
I could just sit and watch Nile jam for hours. He passion for guitar, his comprehension of chord theory, it's just incredible.
Mic melted at minor eleven chord.
LesPaul2006 haaahaha brilliant
That's the funkiest right hand in the biz, wherever I see Nile he has his white strat the biggest smile and always having a blast😎
Preachhhhhh
Love love love his enthusiams and his obvious talent as a songwriter and musician. His love for what he does is infectoius.
INDEED
nothing better than enthusiams
I could just sit and listen to him play all of his production, unplugged.
