The tutorial came at just the right time - I got my Godfather yesterday - it's incredibly versatile, you have to deal with something but it's very good. Thank you for the detailed and helpful video!
Thanks so much for this! I have been enjoying the Godfather, but frankly was just using it as a basic effects unit and was missing all its functionality as a looper and performance tool. I'll get a lot more out of it thanks to your excellent explanation and demonstration. Really appreciate you doing such a comprehensive review.
So excited seeing you on this wonderful machine! Got mine for half a year (first batch) and love it! You’ve opened up a lot more of its potential! Much love!
I didn’t quite «get» this machine when they introduced it, and sort of wrote it off. Maybe the emphasis on eurorack was part of the reason, I don’t know. Fast forward two years, and 💥 Now I get it, thanks to you 😀 and yesterday I ordered one…. Yes it cost quite a bit, but I don’t think it is expensive for all the capabilites and features it offers.
Great video! I really like your relax explanations presented from a user perspective rather than coming from a teacher. This is a really great unit. Some months ago I tried to get grip of a second hand RemindeR but it din't work out due to the seller. Glad I didn't as this is a RemindeR x4 in a smaller form factor and your video made me better understanding the features in comparison to previous videos. Will order it thru your affiliate link but I don't know how Enjoy Electronics will know about it when I'll switch to their webshop. Thx again!
Thanks for the in-depth review Oora. I have a GodFather since the beginning, and the part of the normal/add/change was never clear to me, so I didn't touch it yet. Now, what a surprise, what you can do with it. Some kind of looper, overdubbing, really great to have this next to the playability of this instrument. Will dig into it the coming days. Glad you are involved in future improvements. Via their Indiegogo page I requested already some things that got implemented, I would like to see Presets, higher BPM range, faster BPM syncing, Midi channel saving, LFO Rate 1 & 2 controllable via midi CC, Midi Thru to pass clock/transport. Would indeed be wonderful to have different reverb/delay types. Maybe they could also add some more experimental effect algorithms. The saturator could for instance receive different tastes of distortion with some parameters to modify. I'm using the machine with the Taiga/DFAM/SubH/TD3Mo combo 🙂
Just picked one up! Thanks on the walk through! Why oh why does this device not have an 8-step FX sequencer??!? Since each channel has that cool, multi-color LED strip, and most parameters can already be modulated by the LFO, the device should be capable of having an 8-step FX sequencer with each channel’s LED strip indicating a step and each step storing some parameter locks kinda like Elektron’s Syntakt. This could create such a cool rhythmic performance FX unit, unlike anything else! Even if it’s simply on/off for FX level of each!
Mono in then stereo out to group a or b that way you preserve the stereo effects but still have more control over the final output, also this will be great for multitrack recording and quadraphonic and other surround formats for live performances- I will buy one for sure if they implement a good way to do this. If I was just using it for live mix to stereo or for recording it’s still a very inspiring machine. I’ve been going out their REmindER another look recently too since it’s got some quad capabilities. I’m so glad companies are starting to think beyond stereo.
Sta macchinetta mi piace un sacco! Really enjoyed the "Steve Reich" part towards the end of the video. I'm really curious about the quality of the distortion/compression stages relative to something like the Analog Heat or the mighty Oto Boum. Tbh for the price I found it lacking a bit on the customization side of the algos, but reeeeally looking forward for the next firmware updates
@@OoraMusic , loving dubmix here, and defenetly the idea of having complete fx chain on each aux gives another perspective of mixing ... generally each aux is on a specific fx , and in another hand we most of the time need to verb a delay return , or echo a phaser etc , meaning even effects returns are often sent again in another effect ... perhaps a few effects can stay alone , as example a "room" verb for all or discret slapback for all. The idea of keeping 2 or 3 auxes path for complete fx chain gives the opportunity to bend each fx chain even more without dedicating our whole set of auxes fx to achieve a particular sound on a specific instrument or part ... Your videos brings ideas , and perhaps a way of experimenting for all those who got fx or stomps sleeping on shelves .
Looks very nice. Very tempted. One thing it seems to be lacking is a headphone out. If it’s supposed to be in part an end of chain mixer for performance, that would be really helpful. I use live instruments and mics so tend to monitor through phones. One of my reasons for wanting one of these would be to reduce the number of boxes in the setup but without a headphone out I’d have to send it to a mini mixer or some such. Sounds great though.
You can select which channel to pre-listen in the headphone output by simply pressing the SHIFT key combined with the channel's rotary encoder that you want to pre-listen to. You have the option to listen to channels individually, or you can listen to two, or all four together. Outputs 3 and 4 are two mono channels, but included is a cable with two male mono connectors and one female stereo connector. This way, you can utilize the headphone pre-listening feature
Looks perfect for an end of chain effect. It feels like they could improve on usability. For example, I don’t think it is a good interface when you have to push an encoder and turn it at the same time. It gets tedious and it is harder to control than, for example, clicking the encoder once to change which double pulse delay you are modifying, and then turn. I also don’t like that you have to push and hold down the encoder to modify delay/reverb settings for a specific channel. Luckily these are things that can be modified in software, if they decide to.
I have this device and you did a great job explaining everything. although the delay modes functionally make sense to me, remembering to in what order I twisted the knobs with 4 channels might make a little dizzy ha. Also I still dont know how to use the CV-in for each channel is used.
Hi, you knew them personally and said in your video that stereo on al the inputs could happen soon, now it is 5 month later, you heard or know anything? thanks, Rob
Is this all digital? I checked their website and couldn't find any specs... is it analog or digital?? The 5 tier rack is $160... + $50 shipping to USA... $210😳. No way.

ahahahah
Had no GAS for this until you said that. :(
A syndrome you can't refuse
by all means, you are able to make any machine sound awesome.

im sure you will love it. it perform well both with eurorack and not
The "Godfather" looks like four of their "Reminders" integrated with a mixer - awesome!
yep is an amazing tool

thanks so much it should work automatically, and it will be really helpful !
I like the catastrophic technological failure when you turn the effect off at 1:15. Its like the edge from u2 playing an acoustic guitar.

Many of these things you asked are coming! also, check Luca Longobardi on IG, he does great stuff with add and change. He teach it to me :)

it is something we are discussing!
very interesting concept
agreed
Woah!! This is really interesting and I’m only at your introduction. 4 voice is your thing.
thanks!
Some really nice stuff at the end too, Avalon and Machinedrum 👌
Thanks!
thank for your video (godfather and lyra8)
i didn’t know the godfather, the sound is great, it’s interesting to see good combos
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those giant Princess Leia headphones trip me out whenever I see people wearing them
ahahahahahah they are big, fair enough
@ooramusic great demo thanks.
Can you use the saturation and gain to drive distortion fairly aggressively?
definitely
Thank you !!!
You're welcome!

@@OoraMusic Not soon enough...
Thank you !!! Inspiring demo ! Is there any user presets ?
Coming in the next firmware update
@@OoraMusic Thank you ! I'll received my on next week. Thank for your video !!
that segment with the offset and the delays makes it sound like the electronic drums in Waiting Man by King Crimson.
nice!!
great dub tool !! , with 4 output , this could be interesting on 4 auxes of the analog desk
something I should try!

Loving the Godfather. But I can't get the delay T to go into fractions below 1. Not sure why and I can't see anything in the instructions. Any ideas?

It's Digital
totally digital (except the inputs), and it will be around 1100 bucks
@tendingtropic7778 well worth the price 👌 😉
fully digital
so it's digital?
yes
Expensive for what it is .... feels like 4 channels of a $3k mixer (that would support 32-48 channels ) for $1k
I think the price is fair for the quality. Not sure how to replicate this in hardware spending less than 1k
So many nice toys out there right now
I know!
