I thought I'd never be interested in a hardware delay that wasn't a pedal but damn this is an impressive unit that sounds great that has a nice amount of features. Very happy to see its got quadraphonic options too.
Highranger without further ado, first and foremost, lets get started, lets jump right in, and my favorite useless expression: "i will go ahead and..." go ahead xan always be lect out completely with no change in meaning or anything. Ok, one more "basically". When someone says basically every few sentences, you know they are insecure and unsure if what they are saying is valid.
I was really looking forward to know more about this device, got really interested in it when it was announced. And of course the best way to know the nuts and bolts of such things is to watch a Loopop video! Great machine, a bit too expensive I feel, but indeed the most performative delay I have ever seen.
@@meldianen That's true, didn't think about the H9. I'm just thinking about plugging this thing in a send from my audio interface and being able to route anything in the studio to it. It will be an amazing composition tool!
Thanx a lot loopop. Does anyone know if any firmware update was released since this review? I wonder if any of the would-be-nice-to-have features formulated in the video have been since implemented. And if there's an update, do you know if the delay buffer is still 2 seconds max?
Great idea with original features but glaring lack of useful standard features like send/return processing, degraded repeats for dub effects, tape pitch FX, reverse, modulation of delay times, etc. That makes it a pretty specialized piece of gear for looping. For the price it really should do everything you could possibly want a delay/looper to do. Magneto still looks like the way to go for my rig.
I really like the main idea of this thing but what I found a bit shocking, particularly for a device that will set you back $650, was the clearly audible stepping of the filter frequency. Especially at the very bottom where you go from an open filter to a mostly closed one, in 4 quick steps. Really unfortunate they skimped on something as essential to the sound as the filter, that's a deal breaker for me.
I nearly backed this because I wanted a hardware knobby filter, delay and reverb, but I ended up delving into Eurorack instead. I like it, and it's pretty, but I'm glad I went into Eurorack even though I'm spending more on that stuff. I already had a couple of semi modulars (Neutron, 0 Coast) so it was inevitable anyway. But I can run my rack FX as either sends or master effects and there's lots of stereo options in modular now.
Does anyone else notice the 32 isn't on the correct setting on the FEEDBACK. Well now you can't unsee it, adjust for that if you haven't already. Cheers loopop!
That's a beautiful looking machine. Seems like a must have for techno. Not balanced is a bummer. Does it have a swing kind function similar to soundtoys echoboy?
The question is, it is still interesting since the H-90 has been released? (which also is able to combine reverd abd delay with each other and much more).
It looks very nice.. And it sounds super fantastic...For live performance you look good touching machines like this... and it looks fun... But I can not afford 600... Which delay would be the software version of that?..Soundtoys Echoboy?... .What advantage has a box like this compared to a vst software?.. I wonder if i can do all these effects with a vst or with an Ipad app.---.. Much easier no?... Always connected, no cables, and you close the computer and it goes with you everywhere !!!. No cleaning, no maintenace, no dust, no repairs, easy updates, and so on...If I had a bunch of money i would buy this toy.. It looks and sounds amazing. Now with that money I go for the new Roland 707. If it would cost 65 € then I would probably buy it as a toy to play.
This looks so dope, but a little disappointed in the lack of analog character options. I’m interested in the quadraphonic setup, I just can’t think of a venue I’ve ever been to that had a quad setup.
I saw one band playing quad show back in the day where quadrophonic were thought to be the next big thing. It was ok but not Earth shattering experience. We have now 7.1 surround which left the quads in the dust. Even well recorded music played over top notch set of home stereo speakers with a subwoofer will give you stunning space layers where you can hear instruments one behind each other (not just left to right, thus it gives you 3D experience. I definitely will skip this one, I now need to spend pretty penny on my analog outboard gear setup before it goes to my console, so I was just being curious here. The less digital I go, the better I feel.
I was looking for a hardware delay that comes close to Soundtoys Echoboy which has a feel knob that can rush and drag the delay signal. So far only the Reminder comes close to that ❤️
Thanks once again @loopop awesome review!!! At first I thought this was a machine to kill my interest in pulling the trigger on a Zen Delay. Your wonderful review just confirmed my selection. As sweet as the controls are, it just misses the mark on so many levels :( I do adore the Zen filter and to my ears this isn't a patch on it for sound. The fact that the loops don't, well, loop properly kinda sucks. Minor I guess, but with a little practice I'm confident the Zen can produce top rhythmical effects too, not to the same extent, granted. The outs are disappointing too. Could have been so much. The Zen gets my $$$ thanks :)
incomparable devices really. though there's nothing like the Reminder (yet), the Zen is probably as far from it as possible, so your comparison is sorta misleading. the Rainmaker mentioned below is a more relevant alternative, for instance.
After seeing this, I can really see some similarities between intellijel's Rainmaker in eurorack. This is definitely easier to use but I see it being quite a bit more limited. Overall I like it but i'll stick with my rainmaker hehe, maybe this could be for non-modular people? Great review as always, cheers :)
if only Rainmaker existed in non-modular world without all the Euro limitations in power and size (or at least had a better sounding comb section ;) otherwise, a pretty relevant comparison. I'd like to have both, not choosing one. world needs more playable complex delays like these. Meris LVX is another promising newcomer, but there're obvious shortcomings in its current f/w state
While designed beautifully, the unit has too many cons for me personally. It seems like a guitar pedal without the functionality of being a pedal, a Eurorack or 5U module without the functionality of being a module, and a looper without the functionality of being a looper.

I think the IEM ones are free. You can convert Quadraphonix -> ABX -> Binaural Stereo...
Thanks! I've not yet found a process to do this quickly and easily - do you know of a tutorial that shows how? If not I'll have to research and make one at some point.... If yes, happy to upload it, I still have the raw audio in four channels
@@loopop plugins.iem.at/docs/tutorial_basicrouting/ explains how to do it with Reaper and the IEM plugins (which are free). Hey Loopop, hey Community Which device would you recommend,/prefer; the reminder or the empress echosystem? Need a nice delay for my analog synths, Voyager, Tempest, Dreadlock abyss etc. Sound quality and versatility are the most important things for me.
hi there. the Echosystem is a valid alternative, as both are pretty unique delays in terms of control over the structure of repeats. but still pretty different beasts. just go study the demos, and think them over in terms of which one fits your music better, not your synths per se. note how the Reminder asks to be hand-played while the Empress allows for that, but less so, while being more interesting left by itself like a normal delay (due to abundance of algos/engines). the Empress is pretty unique in its dual serial mode too
@@broederharry2534 go show me the software with these modes and the DPD algo. also, add to that at least a simple midi-controller price. all this poor strawman arguments about 'software can' is more about someone's envy or gassing rather than relevant criticism of this and other 'software in a box' devices. like pretty much any pedal on the market. ridiculous that is.

they're different animals. I own the reminder and will own the zen delay... Reminder is mad fun and i find myself getting into strange and new territory rhythmically
dave dongle Yeah, I’m just not blown away with this. If I’m paying $650 for hardware delay, I want pitch, reverse, tone and emulations of different classic delay units. For that much money, you can get some insanely powerful delay pedals, and most of the best delay plugins made. And there’s no analog features. Its pricing puts it up against Rainmaker, but that has a ton of patch points for way more modulation.
I have to agree, the filter section just didn't really cut it for me. Tinny no soul. I like the potential beat making aspect to this device, which i would like to think i can produce with the help of midi synch and my Launchpad pro on the Zen. It just sounds lush. @loopop - Did you try the pedal inputs at all? It looks like they can be set to "TAP TEMPO, TRIGGER or BYPASS". Could these be used with something like the DFAM to sync the delay? Cool! I've been interested in this product for a while. I love using Delay and Echo in Ableton Live 10 to create percussive layers to fill out a track, and this is a quality hardware equivalent.
@@loopop if the noise happens in between the device and the sound card then the inversion of the noise signal won't be cancelled between the sound card and the monitors if the sound card has balanced outputs. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but balanced lines work by having two copies of the signal, one of which is inverted. Then the inverted signal is flipped back and added to the other at the destination; Any noise that happens along the line is cancelled out from that process (explaining simply for anyone reading the comments who may not be aware). If the noise is already in the signal before the inversion process it will still be there afterwards. So balanced outputs on the sound card will not help that there are not balanced outs on the device.

Looks nice, sounds nice. I need a bigger studio !!
Cool! I've been interested in this product for a while. I love using Delay and Echo in Ableton Live 10 to create percussive layers to fill out a track, and this is a quality hardware equivalent.
amazing video
Are these for sale anywhere? I can't find any.
The quad swirl option you show at 22:00, is not on the current firmware. Which firmware do you have on your unit?
Misha Gattengo I don’t remember but it was a beta I got from the company, not a production version. Please ask them.
Hey it’s the detuned Sirin song!
Yes - can't get that out of my head just yet...
loopop good to hear it again, I’ve listened to the sirin one a number of times.
hopefully a MKII will have balanced jacks
how to do that with Ableton?
Unbalanced output ? Like a Volca... But not the same price ?
Looks like a lot fun :)
An audio interface with balanced outputs will not remove ground buzz on your lines coming out of this, that isn't how balanced outputs work.
memespace of course it will. connecting this to an audio interface with balanced outputs well let you then run long cables to monitors with out noise
I gotta be somewhat cool; I have those cables!! 😆😁❤😇❤😆😁
What's the price though 😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😏😏😏😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒
Hi I enjoy your videos very much. I do not know if you answer questions about your video config. At 0.04 you have a close up of the machine and I can not discover anywhere what you would need for that.
Thanks! Happy to answer questions that don't make me work too hard ;) It's just a crop of a wider shot
@@loopop and do you use 4k camera for resolution then?
Yes
Hey loopop. This video gave me GAS i didn't think i had left, but do you think there is something, besides the quadraphony, that i can't achieve with software?
Thanks! Technically since this is digital, anything can be achieved in software. The main delay is standard in most software delays. The working modes and DPD are pretty unique - I've not seen anything like it but I'm sure someone will come along over time and prove me wrong ;)
