dhdsracer, thank you. As someone else pointed out it is refreshing to watch a video where you aren't thinking of shooting yourself the whole time. You speak so we can hear and understand and you move right through the info. I can replay it if I miss something. Your sound it clear. Thank you. It would have taken most people an hour to do this video. Keep it up. Oh and you seem to actually know what you are saying. And No Accent. Thank You!! I don't feel like I just lost a chunk of my life and can never get it back. Thanks again.
DrMarty
and I wanted to thank you for all you help to all of us out here that need your expertise
Great to see someone going through this as im thinking of building a tri-copter and am going to use this board....thanks again
Anytime! Thanks for the support and expect much more!
You are correct my #4 ESC is the bad one. I hate to see this happened high in the air.
Thank you for resolving this problem.
got it all figured out ..all i nee now are the esc ..still waiting on them hopefully this week ..thank you very much ..your videos are very informative ..
thank you for getting my LCD to show the program again.

Great Video .Having recently got a KK 2.1.5 board and built my first multi rotor I am happy to say that your vid cleared up a lot of questions that I found a multitude of answers for online and It became obvious to me that it's the old everyone has a different oppinion on how to do the initial setup! and your vid cuts through all those advices that only confuse.THANK YOU

Thanks for that little heads up! Can't wait to play around with it :)
Great info. Great job at explaining everything in detail
Thanks Don for another great video ;)
A very good no nonsense guide, thank you for posting this ;-)
Excellent video.

Thank you and awesome video!
Great video. Thanks a ton!
Stick scaling will still be useful if you want to have more adjustment then your radio can give. If you will be using it for FPV or regular flying around, the stock setting will be great. If you want to test faster maneuverability, you will need to slowly bump them up.
Finally got one! thanks for this vid. My APM 2.5 3dr is way too unpredictable.
Thanks for reply. Look fwd to new videos on this. Newbie.
@dhdsracer wow thanks for the fast reply, glad to here its not a fault even if a bit annoying. Thanks
Great video. Thank you.
Great video, this was really helpful :)
Still a great video after all these years. I just bought my first quad (drone) with a FC (it's used), and it has the KK2.1.19. I am really thankful I was able to just bind my transmitter to the FC and fly immediately - I had no idea about much of the KK2. If it didn't fly out of the shoot, I would have worried about all these settings in the firmware. I've watched this video a few times as I fly more. Things become more clear the more I am flying. I found a couple of reasons in KK2 setup why my throttle way overpowered my elevator - the quad didn't have much "forward", it was very limited. Any add of throttle would result in much altitude. Looking forward to getting out early tomorrow a.m. to try out. One thing I have to figure out is using the Aux switch for self leveling which I have been flying with but may not need, and using the Aux switch to switch between Profile 1 and Profile 2. I guess I can switch the self leveling to the stick control.
Thanks for the great share, still very helpful.
Yes, absolutely. They look different but the motors are essentially in the same location.
Good man, you got it first, I'm still waiting for mine:) Very useful info, it will make my life a bit easier, thumbs up mate:))
Many thanks.
im not quite sure what your asking. Accelerometers measure linear drift while gyros measure rotational force. All you need for planes are gyros. But yes, this and the old kk can stabilize planes whe set up properly. Hobbyking has a plane specific stabilizer now. I'd recommend that first.
Well done.
Thanks!
nice job thanks mate
Al-some work! Thanks!
Thumbs up! Very cool, thanks for posting. Now I don't have to read the manual =). I'll be checking out your other vids.
thank you bud
Yeah, Ben did say that but he was incorrect. Stick scaling multiplies your input value. Mo stick scaling, mo twitchy, mo control!
Sounds like analog RFI from the motors or an low level IF interference from the receiver. Check all the connectors and make sure they are making good contact. The twitching tail rotor sounds familiar to me for some reason but, all I can say is make sure the wires that run from the controller board to your tail rotor aren't next to any other motor speed controller, servos, the main controller or the receiver board. You might try shielding the servo's controller leads to block any RF excitation.
Front left motor: CW, front right motor: CCW, rear motor doesn't matter, but usually CW.
Those are also the settings used with this board.
Hi Jay,
If I may I hope DH doesn't mind. I believe the CCPM settings control the position and ON/OFF function of the RX side of the board (not fully confirmed till tomorrow). Under MODE SETTINGS, there is an option to turn CCPM OFF or ON. As you know, the instruction sheet shows you the positions to plug in your RX plugs (AIL/ELE/THR/RUD/AUX). The CCPM Mix shows (AIL/ELE/RUD/THR/AUX). It seems you might need to match the two to make it work properly. I will confirm tomorrow if I am nutso -- r
Thanks for the video. Mine just shipped, cant wait!
Question - Since I have a computer radio (futaba 9c) and I have full expo adjustments, and adjustable throttle curve, is stick scaling still useful? Or should I just turn it up to 100% and do the main adjustments with my TX?
answer for question 1: either you need to calibrate your esc's as the throttle curve isn't right on the 1 which is going slower or you have a faulty motor or esc.
answer for question 2: front is between motors 1 and 2 on an x quad
make sure all your esc's are set to nimh battery setting. It sound like one esc is going into low voltage cutoff.
Thanks for the video, my board is in the post at the moment, so I'm really looking forward to your tuning videos. Does the KK really need to be mounted on some vibration dampening material like the original KK, or does it 'know' to compensate for this somehow ?
That is normal. It's just the kk2 telling the esc's it has no signal when in the menus. It's a safety feature. The motors twitching is simply the pulse from the esc's to make the beep.
you arm with the rudder or Yaw channel. On mode 2, it's my left stick with the throttle at 0.
It doesn't effect on a quad so don't worry about it. It's to manage servo shake on tricopters!
I like your explanation of the KK2 board.my set up ail right motor +value left motor -value: elev front motor +value rear motor -value. the quad is set up for X mode.when throttling up it wants to flip forward, what do I need to adjust to make go up.
Thanks
It's not auto pilot. It only levels the craft. If you loose orientation you can flip a switch and keep from crashing till you regain orientation. Sounds fairly beginner friendly to me.
Thanks, but do you know what the servo filter is for? im using on a 450 quad so should i set to zero or leave at 50?
On my kk2 board has cppm not ccpm.
but thanks for your comment.
Nope, stick scaling is more like travel adjustment on your radio. There could be a small amount of expo built into the board but scaling will effect how sensitive the unit responds to your input.
Great video and just wanted to say thanks for helping me understand the kk board. I got the original kk board bit think I'm gonna buy this one instead . Is it easy to set up in an x configuration cos I'm thinking of converting my sk450 to a dead cat version. Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks for all your videos they have helped a lot while building my 450 with kk 2.0 board and v1.5 firmware. The problem im having is when i press menu and go into the settings all 4 motors keep beeping and twitching every 2 seconds or so whilever im in the menu and I've not seen this on any other, when i exit the menu the motors stop beeping and twitching and it flys ok, do you have any idea why this is? Thanks
Hi again,
I am flying my quad thanks to you and your advice. Still a little question lingers in my mind, when the craft is powered up self leveling is off, when I switch it on it tells me it is on. When taking off it goes forward by it self and wild, when the switch is turned off all is well again. Is there something that I forgot to set please advice.
Thanks again
FW
Hey thanks for the videos, they've been quite helpful. I wanted to ask a noob question that perhaps you could answer. I am new to this hobby and have the kk2.0 board which I'm using to run a quadcopter in "+" configuration. My problem is whenever I try to takeoff the quad just wants to flip over and crash. I've checked and rechecked the direction and orientation of the motors and props. Could this be an issue with the firmware, or is there a trim setting that I'm missing? Thanks.
This was fw 1.0 the newest has a few extra features but the basics are the same.
Hi, i think ive got the settings on the kk 2.0 pretty much spot on now but the only thing is my quad wants to yaw right all the time very slowly, i got all zeros in rx check so im guessing its to do with the rudder gains/limits but dont want to start changing things when ive got it so close, could you point me in the right direction? thanks
Hi, are you using the new V1.5 FW in this video? its just my menu looks slightly different, in the misc. settings you have screen contrast and i dont but i have something called servo filter which is set at 50, do you know what this is? thanks
Hi DH,
First, before I hit you with my question, let me thank you for all your work on the KK Boards. I'm just now getting into one and have some questions concerning the version I have. It says 1.2, but has CCPM Mix. Also under the Sensor Test otion I am getting NOT OKAY results for Gyro X and Y. Is this an indication that the board is bad? Thanks for your input.
r
The HK stabilizer came out less then a week ago. I doubt anyone even tested it yet. Self leveling it a form of autopilot, not stabilization. Accelerometers counter act drift and are rarely needed on a fixed wing. Are you looking to counter act wind and bumpy air or have the plane level it's self?
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. When do you think they will come out with a GPS for this unit? Looks like they are moving in that direction. Not a bad deal for $29.00
is stick scaling the same thing as expo?
Grate video,
My kk2 board in the menu doesnt have the setting that says esc calibration, instead it has something that says cppm setting what is this used for?
I got a noob question I got everything set up now I need to wire it I got it updated I have a kk2 board with the DSM2 6 channel with fail safe
Have you tried to fly it or are you on the string only? These are amazing controllers but they can require some patience at times. What ESC's are you using too? Some simply don't work with multi's.
Can you do a set up for a tri copter with the kk2 board please on the basic settings for beginners thanks
What is it plugged into at the beginning and how do you turn it on? I am new to this :)
What do i need to do when my quad is going backwards left instead of going straight up when i punch the throttle?
Do you have to cut the power wires from 3 of the 4 escs when plugging it into the board?
The left motor/motors are receiving less power. Check if the power cable is longer to that/those motors.
My PCB based micro quad has that problem, the motor furthest from the battery plug always dies first.
how do you add a separate acting motor onto the board, say i wanted to make a tricopter that had a drive system for taxiing how could i make this reality with the kk2?
Great vids mate, very helpful, you have a new sub :) ,i'm seriously thinking of getting one of these but cant seem to find info on if this will fly a v tail config quad,i'm hoping you can answer this,
Thankyou.
Hi again, my first kk 2.0 board is working great but ive just built another quad using the kk 2.0 and im getting a warning message when i power up, it says "sensor calibration data out of limits" and in sensor test the gyro y says 491 not ok, everything is connected right and reciver test are all zero and running in right direction, do you know what the problem is and what i can do? thanks
HI mate,,
cheers for all your vids, great help.
But I recently bought a 3y tricopter {fibreglass body} I can not
seem to stop the tail servo from twitching constantly left or right.
But it does increase with throttle increase.
I have played around with the servo filter..no good.
It is a digi servo and is set high,,any Ideas? please.
thanks again Peter
how did you power it up with out any thing connected ?where did you connect the battery and what voltage pls?
hey Don, I am just getting my KK2 board going and this is my first quad copter, but am having problems with ESC calibration, I don't know what sounds to listen for. Could help with that, or maybe you could make vid about this part of setting up a multi rotor. thanks mike

Hello dhdsracer, I'm trying to figure how to adjust or set my quad to lift off level and stop it from always wanting to lift-off and fly/move rearward. I tried re-calibrating the ESC but I get a throttle pass-through message when its attempted instead of the beep(s) that the KK2.0 instructions say should be happening. Any solutions to this quandary?
Hi there....sorry to bored you with a dumb question!!!today i've done the firmware update of my kk2,I've one this a lot of time, but today I forgot to put the jumper on my usbasp programmer,so the flashing cycle start up as normal, but did'nt end ,so the new firmware start the overwrite on the old one,so now I've got no firmware install on the board, and when i try to reflash the card the kkmulticopter flashtool give me an error....so do you have any Idea how can I reflash my board or do some reset
Hi got my kk2 Turnigy SK 450 today the display was only held in place by the ribbon cable what is needed to keep it in the frame? Also I ordered the RTF and got a ARF any buddy else have THIS PROBLEM
Hi,I'm new to home built quad copters,I have purchased the KK2 board but haven't a clue how to wire it all up,,at the moment i have a box of bits,I have pre assembled the quad frame and that's as far as i have got,I'm not sure about the wiring of the speed controllers(which wire goes where)from the motor and connecting to the KK2 board and so on,can you please help?
Hi dhdsracer.
I have been trying for 3 days to program a KK2 for my X Quad, have followed the manual I believe and now have resorted to the string method, followed the instructions for that and can get it to almost stay in hover position if I increase throttle to far it wants to rotate around the string have tried outside will hover in a fashion and slowly Yaw anti clockwise am about to bin it have no problems with beetle Quads, any Ideas Regards Goofa
Hi, where I connect the battery to sense the voltage? The kk2 lcd is showing: Battery 0.0V.
Thank you
No i couldn't get it to work, turned out to be a faulty gyro so i had to replace the board. Do you mean fw version 1.5? i didn't think there was a version 1.6.
ps Do you have a vid with where the motor connections go and prop sequence?
no, the board is only powered by M1. Just plug and play.
so self leveling is a autopilot?
it gets less agile? and is that good for beginners?
Can you explain this problem. My quad is a 230 mm, it flies fine when the battery is full. When the battery power gets into the 40 % my quad wants to roll to the left, is there an adjustment to compensate for this problem? Thanks for your help.
FW
Hi dhdsracer
The ESC's are HiModel FLY-30A-pro SB, programmed them as you suggested to N-Hi batteries, this system worked on on a heavy Quad I designed using Electrical conduit using the original KK1 board, now fitted to a X600 frame, I burnt original board with a faulty connection, tried a i86L board, couldn't understand dip switch settings,no help available, and now trying KK2 board, where from here Regards Goofa
I have trouble getting my ESC's to work with my KK2 board, i just hear constant beeping. Transmitter appears to work perfectly with the board when checking the Receiver Test. Also tried calibrating using the kk2.0 but i never got a confirmed beep signal after lowing the throttle down to idle.
I'm using the kk2.0 with Turnigy Micro-Quad(PNP from hobbyking) and a JRPROPO transmitter.
Any idea why this isn't activating my esc's? it tried doing the esc's by themselves and worked fine.
I'm having a issue with my kk2 on my tricopter. it does not self cancel. (e.g. I go to turn right and the left motor speeds up. however when I centre the stick the left motor is still going fast than the right). Can you help?
Hi, I have finished my setup but now, each time I turn power on, lcd led on the card turn red and lcd screen cleared after 3 seconds ! Have an idea ? Thanks to answer.
My LCD is blank, can you tell me what is wrong with it. I installed m1,2,3,4 and all the receiver cables. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I upgraded to 1.6 firmware, but can't get self leveling, its turned off, even I flick the switch, all well calibrated... and in right channel, this option pretty much dissapear after I upgraded, stock 1.2 worked well on self leveling but 1.6 none, far more stable though...any help DHD racer?
actually i just realised that my angles in between the motors are not exactly 90degrees.. (they are more like 85-ish degrees... ) do you think that that is the source of the problem?
which stick do you use to arm it buddy
Hi, can these boards be used without computor radio, 35meg standard radio is all I have, thank you.
two KK2 questions:
One: as I'm just trying to take off and hover a bit, I notice that one motor isn't spinning very fast, in fact it wants to stop.
Two: what is "FRONT" in an "x" quad? Is it in the direction of motor one. or is it between motors one and two????
@triple5ic Negative ghost rider. Your stuck with it.
I honestly do not see add-ons for this board coming out. GPS would be nice but I think it will need to wait for the KK3 or you can start looking into MultiWii/Arducopters.
Hi, Have do a test on MultiWii PRO Flight Controller w/MTK GPS Module.?
Tks
