Thanks ALOT Trying to understand the instruction as interpreted from Chinese is a pain Ounce again you guys come through to help us out and I really appreciate the help!
So glad to have come across this video. I've been collecting parts to build my quad and did end up with the SK450 frame and have decided to go with the KK2. This video in particular has really helped remove a lot of the trepidation I've been having about being able to get the board and radio set up. This is definitely a high quality production, and the actual build was beautiful, too. Very nice the way you did your wiring!
I've used both the Rhino 2250mAh 40c 3s1p and Turnigy nano-Tech 2200mAh 45~90c 3sip LiPo batteries. You can use bigger ones if you want longer flight times. These are good for around 7-8 minutes I guess as I haven't timed them.
You want go to "receiver test" in the menu and check the stick movements are correct. when you move right it should show right, left should show left, etc. If it's wrong, change the direction of the servo throws in the radio for the channel you want to change. Also go back and watch "equipment setup" and "Basic setup" sections in the video again.
You should make a video explaining what you plug in where into the kk2 board for a tricopter and how you setup your Remote and reciever with it. But you have to make it in depth so all the people like me who want to get into the hobby but don't know anything can understand. Reply to this comment if you know of a tutorial already or if you are going to make one.
Yes, you can update the firmware. Please click on the kk2 forum link in the video information bar below the video. There you will find all the info you are looking for.
No, did not flash it, used KK2 out of the box with the factory installed firmware v1.0 Not sure why you don't have esc calibration, it should be there if you scroll through the menu.
Total cost was around 175$ - $195 if I remember correctly. There are links to all the parts in the video information bar below the video. If you click them you can get the pricing.
Sounds like an esc calibration issue. Did you test each esc separately with the radio rx and tx to make sure throttle end points are set and all esc are working properly? That must be done first before plugging everything into the KK2 board. After that connect all esc to the KK2 and do the esc calibration per in the video and adjust the minimum throttle setting in the KK2 so all motors start at the same time.
Could be a lot of different things. esc calibration, did he calibrate all ESCs individually before plugging them into the kk2 board? Maybe ESCs not wired in correct order into kk2 board. Or props not in correct orientation to what's shown in the menu. The list goes on and on. I suggest starting over and setting everything up from the beginning again. If that doesn't work check the kk2 forum link in the video information bar below the video.
If you are going to use it for FPV don't forget that you will have the extra weight of the extra equipment on the quad. You can go down in size on the motor length but stick with a 28mm diameter motor rated between 900kv to 1200kv. There are lots of 28mm diameter motors on HobbyKings site around 30mm in length. You will want the ESCs to be in the 20Amp to 30Amp size range depending on the motor ratings. The ones I used are 25Amp. Check out the link in the video info bar.
Awesome videos Frank, I just got a kk2 board, this will help GREATLY!! Thanks for taking the time to do this, it is greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work :-)
If you are following the instructions on the KK2 control board screen, then I'm not sure why the ESC calibration is not working properly. You could try posting your question in the KK2 forum on RCGroups. There is a link in the video information bar below the video. It's all the way at the bottom.
I just compare the factory settings on my quad with your video, after having some problems getting it off the ground and found some good difference on your settings. All the pre fly test seems to be good now. I'm about to take it outside for a first flight. Will post the video and give you an up date. Thank you for your help.
Never used the older kk boards so not sure what to tell you. You may want to search the rc forums for the older kk boards to get an answer or you could just experiment with the epa settings to see what happens.
Not sure about where to plug in a separate BEC. You will probably need to search the forums for that one. There is a link to the RCGroups kk2 forum in the video information bar below the video. The link is all the way at the bottom.
If properly setup in the KK2 board you shouldn't need to trim it from the radio. I didn't use the radio trim tabs with mine other than during setup to make sure all 4 channels were centered properly.
You need to reverse the throws on your radio tx on the channels that show the opposite direction in on kk2 board. After you do this they should show the correct direction on the kk2 board when the sticks are moved.
Do you have the kk2 set up as "+" or "x" configuration because if you have it set as "x" your KK2 board is not facing the front of the Quad from watching your video. The bottom of the KK2 board with the 4 buttons should face the back of the Quad in relation to the "+" or "x" configuration. Fix this then see if it will fly.
I'm in the same place as MrEzPlay my ESC's are brand new and I haven't had to calibrate an ESC before, I'll try to find an answer on youtube but a "how to" would be nice to add to this section. My bixler ESC did not need calibration :)
Thanks for the only complete guide for this anywhere. I just bailed from trying to use a multiwii w/ v2.1 -nice controller -BUT, your 'on your own'. Hoards of time and hair pulling, little, incomplete, help, here and there -wanted to quit while I was still sane. Finally after 4 months the KK2 is back in stock -as the KK2.1. Installed it and watched your video. The ESC calibration menu item is not there. Is that a problem? I guess I'll soon be finding that out.
Hi Frank, just watched both build videos...My question is this...are you happy with all the parts, motors etc you went with on this build? Also would this mother board work with dynam 650 arf...I may want to build this one...How much for all the parts? i already have batteries and radio equitment...thanks again for another great tutorial :)
Hi Frank, I have a KK2 V1.2 and i'm wondering if you could help me out, where do i make changes to make the motors act right. when i hit right rudder it goes down, if i hit left rudder it flips right, left aileron goes right and right aileron goes left, elevator its fine. Thank you in advance
Nice looking quad i have the same just with 30a escs. Can you tell me what props youre using, evt send me a link to hobbyking where to buy them? Good video!
Hey Diehard I have the RadioLink TX and the older KK Board. I see nothing about stick scaling but my TX does have EPA (End Point Adjustments) that can be adjusted on all 6 channels. Is EPA the same thing as Stick-Scaling? Right now my 450 quad is WAY to responsive for me to safely fly and I desperately need to tone this thing down. Thanks for any help that you can give..
Hello. Thanks for the video. When I want to do ESC calibration, throttle stick is in upper position and power on the board. But this time all the ESCs are getting into setup mode. I couldn't get the board's ESC calibration sound. Is there anything that I missed? Pls could you help me? Thanks in advance.
What was the final PI settings, cant seem to get mine right it flys OK but is stills wobbles (osscilates) slowly, so it must be the I gain... how to determine if it is Yaw or Roll/pitch that needs to be lowered? Think im down to 20 in Igain and it stil osscilates. My specs, SK450 frame, Plush 30a esc, NTM 28-26 1200kv motors, walkera mx400 3blade props. 4s 3000mah
Hello Frank, I have the kk2 board,i was watching your video on kk2 board set and when we got to the esc calibration my board does not have that it say cppm settings.instead of esc cal so what do i do now?
i used turnigy 1400 kv with 30 amp push ,, worked great no settings changed in menu ,, RTF .. sk450 fram ,, and did not even balanced my props ,, i used the kk2,0 package box to mount board ,, worked at once ,, i builded it and flying it in one day ,, this is a great combo ,, but go for the 9 inch props ,,i have 8 now ,butt want to change them to 9 ,,
When I plug my battery only to esc will initialize(motor 1 and 3) but the other won't stop making the beep, beep noise (motor 2 and 4)Do you have any suggestion
Can you show a side view that shows the different levels and pictures of what is in them? So many people doing videos miss that for the people that need to see things like that.
Tirar as hélices. verificar a direção do acelerador no menu de teste do receptor. inverter, se necessário. memorizar o restante das instruções, pois o próximo passo é desligar a energia. desligar a energia.
Okay thanks. The original firmware is a v1.0 I believe. Have you tried any other firmware on it yet? If so does it work better and what firmware are you currently using? I have the v1.2 right now but I have tried the v1.1 and v1.5. So far I found I had good luck with the original firmware (v1.0) and the v1.2. I only updated the firmware to begin with so the selflevel will work. Still messing with it to get the best flight from it. It is a cool aircraft.
It's been a while since I set this up so don't remember the setting at the moment. You can find my final settings if you watch the Part 3 video. I don't think they will be optimal for your set up as it is quite different than the one used on my quad. Your motors are higher kv and the props are smaller and you are running 4 cells not 3 so that changes everything. The part 3 video goes over how to tune the PI gains settings to get rid of oscillations.
nice video , i made mine , yesterday ,, package came yesterday ,, used your video is great ,, butt mine also has CCPM settings ,, maybe you have to update , LOL ,, i also have the sk450 i use kk2.0 turnigy 1400 kv ,, and 30 amp esc PUSH , 8 inch props ,, its flying great , used your instructions , works great , onley one problem when u use wifi and using this video , every time turn on my Tx ,, i have no conection LOL ,, i need to reconect wifi ,, butt video worked great THNX
hi all well, your video, I took my doubts about quadcopter. I would ask what configuration I use in my ja tenho.se radio dx6i that you could give me some tips I thank.
Hello thank you so much for your time making these video ,but i have some problem and i really need help, as I'm new in these hobby !! so I did all calibrations it need to be done and power my remote on first and the kk21. second. ,and motors still won't move because i don't know why it couldn't armed !! and I couldn't get self level on its always said off ,thank you for your time
simo bouryal Not sure why it won't arm if you did all calibrations as in the video. You may want to start from the beginning and do the setup all over. Be sure to start by calibrating the ESCs high and low throttle individually with the receiver. This is usually done by connecting one ESC at a time to the receiver throttle channel. Then power up the radio and move throttle to high position, all the way up. Next plug in the battery to the receiver and esc. You should hear a beep. Then move throttle to off, all the way down. You should hear beeping sequence. Unplug battery and turn off radio. Do this with all ESCs. Then start the KK2.1 setup from the beginning.
I'm thinking of ordering my KK2.1.5 board from Ready To Fly Quads but they say the it's been upgraded with "Steveis 1.16S1 Pro Firmware." I am wondering if this will futz up the tutorial.
i have a problem sir i have flysky 6ch tx and kk2 board when i was testing receiver i found out that my rudder and aileron shows opposite direction when i move the stick in the same direction if i move aileron to right then on board it shows right but if i move rudder to right it shows left pls help me sir :(
i have a issue with my sk450 i had a crash and i couldnt get kkboard up and running so i measured the 1st esc it was 11volts ??? there other ones was appros 4.8volts im a bit confused here , i assume the 1st esc that connects to m1 port is damaged
First check that the KK2 board is square and level to the frame. Make sure the weight CG is as close to center on the quad as possible. Check all props are balanced. Then adjust the P I gains per the video till you have no more wobble. If non of that helps please check the KK2 forum on rcgroups. There is a link in the video information bar
very good video. i tried and it worked but now when I try again to perform the receiver test, the positive and negative values are too high (-69 or -100+ for the elevator when it positioned full down) so when I try to arm and exit from the safe mode this not works. Does anyone know what should I do? thanks for the help
Hello. I have a little question. I have KK2.1.5 flight controller and speed controller 4x RC Simonk 30A ESC Brushless Motor Speed Controller for Multicopter BEC 5V / 2A. To connect them have I disconnect the plus wire from BEC in M2-M4 connections and leave plus just only in the M1, or can i connected regular without disconnect anything (3 wire from BEC to controller ) Thanks Alex
I have calibrated my esc but the motor who's connected to ,1 dosent run and if I change esc then the next motor dosent run y ?and yup the esc also becomes very hot and all my parts r fine
I need help. I power my remote on first and the quad second. But it won't fly at all. I've looked at the signal test and whenever I did something on the controller, the quad would receive the command, yet I can't move it at all. I debugged it, did a few calibrations and the motors still won't move an inch. Please help me
Hello DiehardRCaddicts, I do ESC calibration for my SK450 RTF 1. Unplug the battery on quad. 2. Turn on Remote, apply full throttle. 3. Press and hold 1st and 4th button. 4. Plug the battery 5. Wait for beeps. 6. Put the throttle to idle. 7. Wait for beep 8. Release the buttons (1st and 4th). However, All of motors don't start at the same time. I tried several times and sometime only 1 motor start first, sometime 2 or 3 motor s start, and the quad can not fly. Do you know how can I solve this problem? Thank you!
I am new at getting one of these. I want to build one. I am very confused about all the wires. I know the ESC plugs into the Receiver (or at least they do on my RC plane) (maybe the ESC's plug into the FC panel & not the receiver, which would mean i don't need a receiver) but in the video there are wires coming up to the flight controller on both the right & left side. Where do they come from & what are they for. Please help. Thank you.
Sir i just made a drone using kk board But when i calibrate my esc only 3 motors Motor 1 motor 2 and motor 4 is spinning on 10% of throttle only when i take throttle to 50% then all the motors are spinning
Excellent Video...One of the best I have seen showing how to properly set up the KK2. I will be forwarding my viewers on to this video. Well done!
Thanks ALOT
Trying to understand the instruction as interpreted from Chinese is a pain
Ounce again you guys come through to help us out and I really appreciate the help!
Thanks! I don't know what else to do! Watch your videos several times.

Great job guys, excellent video series. Thanks for helping us newbies get into building quads
Both my brother Paul and I are American. We live in O'Fallon, Missouri in the USA.

good job i put a 450 together in just a few hours.tested it with your settings. easy build flies great.thanks my first try very happy

If properly setup in the KK2 board you shouldn't need to trim it from the radio. I didn't use the radio trim tabs with mine other than during setup to make sure all 4 channels were centered properly.
The props used were APC 10x3.8 slow flyer props. I got them from the local hobbyshop.
You need to reverse the throws on your radio tx on the channels that show the opposite direction in on kk2 board. After you do this they should show the correct direction on the kk2 board when the sticks are moved.
i could not find ESC calibration. did you reflash it or something?
ligar o rádio.
definir o acelerador para máximo.
pressione o botão 1 e 4 e mantê-los até a última etapa.
ligar a energia.
Yes, I'm very happy with the setup on this build. You can find the links to the parts in the video information bar below the video.

I'm in the same place as MrEzPlay my ESC's are brand new and I haven't had to calibrate an ESC before, I'll try to find an answer on youtube but a "how to" would be nice to add to this section. My bixler ESC did not need calibration :)

thanks, grate video Frank keep up the good work
this is my first time making a quadcopter and i was wondering how do you know wich way is front.
Hi, first of all great video. I have DJI Opto esc's on my quad so I need to run a seperate BEC where does that plug in on the KK2 board?
Hi Frank, just watched both build videos...My question is this...are you happy with all the parts, motors etc you went with on this build? Also would this mother board work with dynam 650 arf...I may want to build this one...How much for all the parts? i already have batteries and radio equitment...thanks again for another great tutorial :)
also i bought the plush turnigy 30 amp esc for the quad.
what timming should they be set at?
they were on low from the factory.
You cant change in your Tx, find the program reverse
how much did it end up costing. because i have really been wanting to do something like this.
Might want to pull the power lead on 3 of your throttle wires from the ESC if they are sbecs. if linear then it won't matter but it won't hurt either.
Nice looking quad i have the same just with 30a escs.
Can you tell me what props youre using, evt send me a link to hobbyking where to buy them?

I don't think I calibrated the esc I don't how to do that since this is my first quadcopter Im building have no idea thanks for the tips
How long are your servo leads from kk2 to receiver. Also you said female aren't they male?

How much did it kost all in total?
I used KK2 out of the box with the factory installed firmware v1.1 I believe.
I'm thinking of ordering my KK2.1.5 board from Ready To Fly Quads but they say the it's been upgraded with "Steveis 1.16S1 Pro Firmware." I am wondering if this will futz up the tutorial.
i have a problem sir i have flysky 6ch tx and kk2 board when i was testing receiver i found out that my rudder and aileron shows opposite direction when i move the stick in the same direction
if i move aileron to right then on board it shows right but if i move rudder to right it shows left pls help me sir :(
Hi,when i do that i got a set-up for mode 1,how to set-up for mode 2??
could i use the spectrum dx5e transmitter for this?
what battery are you using?
Hi, Are the value settings in this movie done for your quadcopter with sk450 frame ?
it looks like at 7:15 in the video that you only have one motor connected. how do you connect the other motors to the control board.
when i plug in the battery to the quad the motors keep beeping, i noticed yours were not beeping constuntly
i have a issue with my sk450 i had a crash and i couldnt get kkboard up and running so i measured the 1st esc it was 11volts ??? there other ones was appros 4.8volts
im a bit confused here , i assume the 1st esc that connects to m1 port is damaged
How much was it for this entire setup excluding the remote. P.S Great tutorial
Hi Mr Frank I have a question?
What version firmware was currently on the board in this video?
My quad is doing a bit of a hoola-hoop ish dance quite often (at least every 5-10 seconds it wobbles) Any advice on this? (kk2.0)
To connect them have I disconnect the plus wire from BEC in M2-M4 connections and leave plus just only in the M1, or can i connected regular without disconnect anything (3 wire from BEC to controller )
Thanks
Alex
yes, get it changed
I have calibrated my esc but the motor who's connected to ,1 dosent run and if I change esc then the next motor dosent run y ?and yup the esc also becomes very hot and all my parts r fine
I need help. I power my remote on first and the quad second. But it won't fly at all. I've looked at the signal test and whenever I did something on the controller, the quad would receive the command, yet I can't move it at all. I debugged it, did a few calibrations and the motors still won't move an inch. Please help me
When I plug in my Battery, the KK2.1.5 board the screen starts to slowly go dim, does this mean my battery is low charge/?
Hello DiehardRCaddicts,
I do ESC calibration for my SK450 RTF
1. Unplug the battery on quad.
2. Turn on Remote, apply full throttle.
3. Press and hold 1st and 4th button.
4. Plug the battery
5. Wait for beeps.
6. Put the throttle to idle.
7. Wait for beep
8. Release the buttons (1st and 4th).
However, All of motors don't start at the same time.
I tried several times and sometime only 1 motor start first, sometime 2 or 3 motor s start, and the quad can not fly.
Do you know how can I solve this problem?
Thank you!
Melody Anh Dung Try adjusting the minimum throttle setting. Watch the video at 9:10 minutes and it will show you how to adjust it.
can u plzz help me, when I increase the throttle kk board suddenly disarm and quad is not taking off due to dis arm problem
Thank you.
***** Please watch the part1 video. At about 4 minutes into the video it shows the wiring of the receiver, ESCs, and flight controller.
set them to high for outrunner motors.
thank god for you man !!! you are the best !!! :D
Sir i just made a drone using kk board
But when i calibrate my esc only 3 motors Motor 1 motor 2 and motor 4 is spinning on 10% of throttle only when i take throttle to 50% then all the motors are spinning
@georgebones: I'd look at rcgroups forum for that question. I get all my info there. Great set of vids, diehard!
