- Total War: SHOGUN 2: Fall of the Samurai 1vs1: Shogitai vs Imperial Infantry
Clan: Aizu vs Tosa
Battle Difficulty: normal
Imperial Infantry: Kneel Fire ON.
Shogitai are similar to katana kachi, but with better melee attack, charge bonus, defense, and morale. In exchange, they have poorer armor and are more expensive to train and maintain. In practice, they are superior to Katana Kachi in every meaningful way in combat: a vast majority of units in Fall of the Samaurai use guns, which ignore armor, or melee, against which armor has limited benefit, so the weak armor of the shogitai means little. In multiplayer, they are also limited to three regiments. Shogitai have far superior melee skill to all ranged infantry in Fall of the Samurai, and are certain to cause heavy casualties if they can close the gap without sustaining too many casualties first. They can achieve this by hiding behind hills or in dense forests, charging and exposing themselves to gunfire at the last moment. Shogitai are thus very beneficial for defending forts, where they often aren't exposed to much fire. Conversely, shogitai are highly vulnerable to ranged attacks. They are also vulnerable to being attacked by cavalry thanks to their lack of an anti-cavalry bonus. Shogitai are considered Shogunate units by the game, and so are instantly disbanded if the player controlling them chooses to declare themselves independent upon realm divide. Imperial factions can still bribe shogitai to their cause using Ishin Shishi: a valuable endeavor given their status as the best melee infantry in the game. As Shogunate units, shogitai benefit from the global discount provided by high level Shinsengumi. While shogitai can only be recruited in the mid-game at earliest thanks to their steep building requirements, the Obama and Sendai begin the campaign with one unit of Shogitai.
As their name suggests, imperial Infantry are available only for factions with Imperial allegiance. Together with Shogunate Infantry and Republican Infantry, imperial infantry represent the best non-limited line infantry available to most factions where they are available. With few exceptions, they are inferior only to elite infantry, but such units are usually limited to only a few regiments. As superior line infantry, imperial infantry have superb accuracy and reload skill, but their melee statistics remain relatively poor when compared to dedicated melee infantry or cavalry. Imperial Infantry are available only to imperial-aligned factions. They disband automatically if their faction switches allegiances. However, Shogunate-aligned factions can obtain imperial infantry by bribing them with Shinsengumi. Some other line infantry, such as Vermilion Bird Force and Kihetai, have nominally better accuracy and/or reload skill. However, Shogunate/Imperial/Republican infantry use breech loading rifles that have a much faster reload animation than the muzzle-loading rifles other line infantry use. In practice, this makes SIR infantry the deadliest line infantry at shooting than any other line infantry save SIR elite infantry and the foreign elite marines. With the investment of certain Ishin Shishi skills, imperial infantry can even be cheaper to recruit than other line infantry, making them the best line infantry in all ways in the mid to late game.

Damn that Banzai was timed perfectly, could already see the routing icon pop up just as Banzai came into effect to negate it. Getting 102 kills when only 46 made it to the enemy is very impressive.
😈
I did not knew shogitai were this strong.
It's very pleased to use them.
Shogitai are very effective as a garrison aid, they shoot faster and more accurately than the militia and excel in close combat.
Man, you know every Japanese guy who didn't wear armor in a battle were the shit
@@hanh2122011 Are you sure? How about Warrior Monks? They have no armor.
Shogitai don't have guns, do you mean Shinsengumi Police?
I didn't know shogitai were this power probably because I use kneel fire with only two ranks they don't even make it to melee. It would be nice to see them ambush a infantry line from the side and decimate them
If you recruit them in the right province, have the right general, shinsengumi and Foreign Advisor traits, you can get Shogitai up to about 35 melee attack, BEFORE Banzai. With some of these, I've managed to ambush and annihilate modern armies nearly twice my size.
The thing with traditional units, you can't never face a modern army head on. You'll always need to try to ambush enemy armies or try to use the terrain at your advantage, mainly figting in mountains and dense woods to prevent efective firing lines
@@matiasmattera6650 Yea I once misplaced by gatling guns behind some units behind hills and got decimated by traditional units
To play full traditionalist armies you have to ambush and/or use the terrain to your advantage. 30-50% of my army is usually Yari Ki, and to fight I would ride along hills and uneven terrain, then charge in the back while yari infantry beelines to the front, and finally heavy hitters following in the back. Shogitai is strong but they're way too vulnerable while they're still running.
@@matiasmattera6650 yes you can, men are expendable, after all.
2:00 BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!
Badass 🥶
46 who comne close enough wipe 60% Imperial infantry.
Yeah, Shogitai are very powerful melee troops and they're my favorite unit too.
@@TotalWar1vs1 then you need to meat shield to cover or ambush
@@hboyvn Yup!
Man, defending with traditional units in legendary is a pain in the ass but the charges with infantry are always awesome, specially if they make it to the enemy lines even if they lose like 60% of the strength.
👍
I knew that shogitai could mess me up but I didn’t think they were this powerful.
They made me surprised too.
I kept my shogitai for the entire campaign. They died capturing that last city. RIP
For me, it's always pleased to use Shogitai, even in late game.
Hand to hand powerful units . Keep 3 of these per general for attacking castle and melee enemies in when the fight gets to close up.
👍👍
hey man, this content is sick. this is the kinda shit i do on my own time when im baked lol. i love the outside of the box thought kinda matchups you got.
Thanks bro 😈😈😈
Thank you
You're welcome mate!
Brazil
By the way, try to use Napoleonic tactic. Shogitai will win Imperial Infantry if they try to attack with narrow column formation, not a wide line. "Banzai" will remove all negative effects like "open flanks" etc.
I'll test it 👍
The battle animations for Shogitai are sick.
😈👍
Shogitai is amazing. Always used them behind spear levy so I can let them murder everyone when they are in full strength.
👍
The Shōgitai would be destroyed if the Imperials would be spread into just two ranks, with kneel fire the samurai stand no chance.
Yup!
Support fire too
More blood spray than a Lady Snowblood marathon.
😈👍
shogitai be like : aight imma make this fight fair u can fire like multiple volleys
I don't use kneel fire unless necessary like a last ditch tactic. Makes the Shogitai an worthy opponent.
If they hit you and then do banzai, you better retreat until it runs out or whoever took the charge is gone.
👍
Now try that again with Loose Formation and the widest possible formation.
Okay.
This is shit I want to see but don’t have the patience to do every matchup. 10/10 shameless display.
shogitai is the best melee units, but i always avoid to use them where on open ground unless i find oppertunity to use them to flank :P
You could probably send a spendable unit ahead to eat the volleys.
👍
Total War: Shogun 2 2vs1: Hojo Fire Rockets vs Royal Marines (FOTS)
Where are bayonets on the rifles? Where is bayonets fencing in the line? Where are pistols? What a shame
Yeah, I'd love to see bayonets fighting.
could you do shogun 2 vanilla cavalry unit vs FOTS elite infantry without any firing or shots, i tried once that they have bonuses against cavalry
try something like US Marines vs Spear of Shizugatake without any ranged attack, since US Marines has highest melee value as elite infantry and Spear of Shizugatake has highest attack value as cavalry
Okay bro. I'll try.
Literally Fall of The Samurai
😈👍
Quite a brutal defeat
😈
If you don't get at least half of the Shogitai's strength before they get into melee, get ready to get minced
Yup!
I've only played vanilla shogun 2 so please excuse my ignorance but why in the world would you recruit these guys in FOTS? A game where almost every unit has guns, where artillery is actually good and where cavalry still exists.
Don't underestimate melee units in FOTS, especially those Shogitai. You can set up an ambush and let Shogitai "banzai" charge to see their true power.
wouldnt make them in loose formation help die less on the way they charging?
Yes, I forgot to use it...
章义队,多人里面最好用的兵种
😈👍
Thats why I hate playing as Imperial clans they dont have accsess to the best melee unit in the game 5 of these units can defeat 20 katana kachi if upgraded properly
😈👍
Are Shogitai the most badass unit in the game?
For me, YESSS
@@TotalWar1vs1 I've changed my mind, revolver cavalry are much more badass - like how can't be? They dual wield revolvers and absolutely deletes enemy units!
@@Uragan00829 👍👍
These bastards are a pain to go against and the AI would normally field 2-3 of these, But they're nothing against Armstrongs.
Yeah, Armstrong Guns are OP.
