- I went around campus and asked 6 freshmen how they got into Duke! We asked them about stats, extracurriculars, what they wrote in their essays, why duke, and application advice. Hi I’m planning to ED into data science related major, how did u decide the statistics as the major. I’m not sure how the comp sci branch and other ways to do data science, they don’t have a data major right?

I’m so frustrated because I would absolutely love to go to Duke, and my GPA is great, but my stupid school offers no extracurriculars except sports. That is going to screw me for every big college, and it’s frustrating that this is going to effect my whole life.

I just got into a great college and all of my extracurriculars were online. It’s crazy how many opportunities there are to do things you’re passionate about online.
Hi, if anyone has experience in doing impressive ECs and/or historical research please help me out if you can. I'm already half way through 10th grade and am brainstorming impressive ECs because I'm applying to selective schools (almost ivy, not quite lol?) Here's what I have that are related to my passion for history and my future major which is going to be history:
-research internship for one summer
-writing a research paper for NHD (a competition)
-starting a history club at my local library
I need more impressive ideas, preferably how to channel my history passion into leadership more??? Thx!!!

I am a freshman I plan on doing at least one club for school this year because my parents work 2 hours away so one one will pick me up. Will doing volunteer work or some sort of extracurricular help outside of school? What will help me stand out this year for college?
I would recommend starting a club or become very involved in a passion of yours, try to compete in it competitively

SAT Scores don't matter as much as EC's.
And a lot of colleges don't require you to even submit SAT scores nowadays, the value has gone down

The concept for this promotion was good but the selection of students to interview was totally non-inclusive. There was not one person interviewed who "looked like Me".
Duke is where N.C. sends it's homely girls. UNC is where the hot ones go.
