Alan's a reader of books. In my mind, that's what kept him going further than any piece of steel.
Alan Kay......like a BOSS!!!
Alan's real survival demonstration on Alone was hands down the best survival TV to date. Every time I see limpets now I think of this man.
Z T Same thing but for me it's slugs lol
Alan kay is by far my favorite person i have seen on alone. hes very charming and very intelligent. he is one that doesn't seem drawn to fame or seem to change him. like the video and enjoy your channel a lot. thanks for being very thorough and entertaining.
Linkous To Bushcraft As far as Alone goes, Season 1 was the only season imo
season 3 was good too imo
Link Us To Bushcraft you’re absolutely right. What a gentleman! His closing monologue was inspirational. And his first thought about the prize money was to pay his father back. Gratitude and acknowledgment of his privilege. Cool, cool guy. Best winner by far.
Comp Pend, yeah. It was more than just the fact that it was an unexplored situation... Alan was very philosophical, honest, realistic and pragmatic. I wish I could watch it all again without the memory of what happened.
The guy that killed the moose was cool 2
One of the coolest things Alan said was “already” in response to learning he’d won. Class A bad ass! He was ready to spend a year out there and probably could have!
@reesej123 Russell how many months have you done?
@reesej123 Russell no it’s the difference between an armchair critic and a critic who’s been there. I couldn’t do what Alan did and I doubt you could.
@reesej123 Russell 😂
I just watched season 1 again. It's a small detail, but he actually says "so soon?" I think it conveys more of the surprise and humility he was feeling at the time.
Have had mine now for about 4 months. Have used and abused it. Today I am writing not because of a regular bushcrafting while oue in the woods thing.
My wife and I live in a small travel trailer. We are currently in an RV resort where you absolutely have to use their firewood. Problem is this is more of a resort and has no kindling and the wood here is really dried hard wood. As a result, I had to baton a whole pack of the wood to make a bunch of kindling. Used my camp axe hammer side to baton my Kukri through this wood.
It performed flawlessly and the K-Tact is doing a great job. Once I got used to the geometry, it was pretty easy to get this done.
I absolutely love this!!
Alan Kay survived through adversity. In choosing his Kukri, he made the right choice, enhancing the odds of survival. His feat, and the design of his Kukri, evolved into one of the finest survival blades, the Condor K-Tact Kukri Knife. It’s available through many vendors, and by way of the internet, all over the world. Condor’s attention to detail, quality, and superb customer service, are like Alan Kay’s extraordinary performance, and his subsequent activities. Quality, perseverance, and inner strength mark his life. They’re mirrored in Condor’s steel…
Great video.
I was pulling for Alan from the first episode. He definitely had the proper attitude and mindset.
I really do enjoy this design, since when I drew my own Kukri this is basically what I drew, smashing pommel and all.
I am finally watching ALONE and am so glad to find this video. I searched specifically for Alan's knife.
Alan Kay a proper real-life scholar and gentleman...definitely a charming auld character...the coolest dude that Alone has yet produced and, in my opinion, the most down to earth of the North American Survivalists. Have a world of time for this guy.
Brilliant choice of knife as well mate...29 million Nepalese (and a few million Indians and Singaporeans) can't be wrong.
Just got my kukri and kydex sheath. I had to do a little trimming and heat molding on the sheath but I'm happy with it!
That my Friends is one heck of a beauty, im seriously going to have to get me one as my old late 90's cold steel Kukri snapped right on the molded handle pin. i nearly died when it snapped.
Just added this Kukri to my Wish List on Amazon. I've been looking for a Kukri that had authentic style, but modern upgrades, and I think I found it! Thanks for a great post.
Nobody cares about your wishlist, buy it
Man Condor has made nice Kukri! Have always the blade shape of the Kukri. I have never used one but I would love to own this one. Besides an Axe I feel this would actually fit as a One tool option.
Awesome! Bravo on that Kukuri!! Yup I will look for that! Huge congratulations to Alan and to his family!
Thanks guys and thanks Condor!
Ross
The Santa Fe Man!~
I love hearing his take on the blade. Great job.
Thanks man.
Thanks brother. I definitely want this blade. Good video. Alan is a good guy.
Getting ready to get one of these bad boys. Thanks Alan for the great design and take care.👍
I'd really love to see him do a full video on kukri blades and how to use them in the wilderness... they are not an immediately intuitive knife design if you know what I mean. So it would be interesting to see him show us the finer points of using a kukri to get the most out of it.
Love this dude.
Loved this guy on Alone. Such a cool good guy
Agreed
Just Ordered one.
The change to the handle sold me. The tang striking surface was needed. Bravo.
Got mine from amazon $108.00...
Because you bang away at everything?
Good design the Khukri, the one thing I'd like to see is a brass half guard, so your hand could never slide onto the blade.
a little electric tape on the top(two loops) with a little underneath to rest your index and middle finger on (so they're higher than your ring and pinkie) can provide a height difference for your grip to keep you from sliding upwards
Thanks ETV!
Love it!
The Kukhri is always the best choice. Mine came from Nepal where they do some very nice work, functional and beautiful.
A good Nepalese kukri is hard to beat
He diffinetly proved and help improve tnat that kukri.
Quality bits of kit.
very cool thank you
1:16 "I'm just going to stand behind this big feller so my P.O. doesn't have a chance of seeing me on someone's video."
Girlfriend got me this blade for Christmas! Super stoked. Love Alan didnt know this was named for him!
Did yours have the bow drill divot in it? Seems they did change some stuff that they said they wouldnt
@@Geargeargear333 it has holes through the handle and grommets on the sheath. Not sure if that's what you mean.
This is what Arnold was talking about when he said “Get to da choppa!”
I think I'm going to order it.
Good knive! Exelent!
I like him and I like his philosophy.
I sincerely hope to see these on the shelf soon. I can't find one anywhere. I also hope they ditch the bow-drill divot idea. I'd rather make my own bow drill handle if I need one (which is incredibly unlikely) than have an uncomfortable divot in the handle of a knife I use constantly.
I picked up my k tac kukri today!!!
L Mac let me know what you think about it.
I'm a big fan of the kukri it is my go to prosser in the woods that and my mora companion just love them and the price Dan in ohio
Legend !!!
I've got the wooden Kukri Alan has for Christmas. I want to know how to maintain it before it gets completely dull. What angle should I sharpen it? How can sharpen it?
I like this khukari.
Would love to have one. Wonder if the price will ever come dwn
Nice
Bet it's a great blade , still waiting on my order evidently it's a 2 month wait
He didn’t have that much skills but he was mentally strong. The guy who made musical instrument was the most talented in group
Cool! :)
Can someone explain to me why the back is hooked and not rounded?
hey alan kaye time to give that knife some love man. glass bead that blade and get a nice satin finish on it.
Great video and review. Alan Kay rocks and that blade looks awesome. I just put it on my Father's Day wish list. Thanks for sharing.
Cold Steel Kukri are better. By far. You can get a cheap one, $35 to test it and see yourself.
After extolling the virtues of having a sheath that carries horizontally, why does the Condor version have a dangler? Can it be carried horizontally? The Condor sheath doesn't appear to have the belt slits....
I'm a city slicker not an outdoorsman but that kukri has a cool factor!!!!!
Agreed
@ MT - Yes indeed and your video on shelter building and advanced navigation is way cool .
Cold Steel is better by far. You don't hold a Cold Steel Kukri like they hold theirs. You'll end up in the ER real quick. I have about 9 of them. No one makes them better than Cold Steel. No one is close. I have the Indian, Nepalese and others. No one is even remotely close. I wouldn't trade 5 of theirs for 1 from Cold Steel.
@@redfaux74they are not kukris tho. They are khukri shaped machete which is very different
@@clintwestwood3539 - You have no idea what you're talking about. Dr Muang Gyi, a real Burmese Ghurka that I trained with, helped Lynn Thompson develop these. They're shaped exactly the same. I have almost a dozen. I trained with them for years by others who trained with them in war.
KTac hell yeah
My friend was there!
Ship? From where? Where are the materials from and what nation produces it?
The blade appears to have a Moran edge. Yes?
So do the sheaths sell separate?
Say Heah, Interesting what Alan K said about the sheath. I like to carry a neck knife, but when I got my S. O. G. Pillar, the way the sheath came with that Tec-Lock, I was able to carry it Scout Carry, I luv it, even better than to neck carry, Yeah, it's becoming my Fav's carrying a small blade that I usually would neck carry. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Good to hear from you, P4X.
Alan let us know when ur down in Gatlinburg next time...
Alan Kay autographed my Condor Kukri Sheath at Preppercon :)
Looks like the amazon reviews hate the grind on the blade
1:11 lol, and after that you turn right to him again.
Are you going to have a review for the K-TACT too?
I like a lot about that, but there's no front guard. Please make one with that!
It should have a small finger guard, And i think its a bit on the thick side.
So Alan Kay will come hang out with me if I pay him?...sweet!
I love mine ,But i want one of those sheath's .. way cool !!!!
That is badass and I want one so how can I get one
Here you go: amzn.to/2ENcKW7
What's with the doo rag?
Where is this knife constructed (country)? I see they left out this small detail.
These are all made in El Salvador.
That looks like a CONDOR HEAVY DUTY KUKRI, with a different handle
Alan has a distinct ghost-stare, kinda scary. No wonder the bears kept their distance in Alone.
Condor jungolo needs a review and you would be the first.
How many price it
I will buy it
I ordered a Condor heavy duty Kukri. It arrived yesterday. Dull as a butter knife. Chip out of the tip of the blade. Very disappointed in Condor quality control. I have reached out directly to Condor.
K-tact..... Hmmm....
You never see anyone hold a Cold Steel knife, especially a Kukri, like they do their knives. You'd end up in the ER real quick with a nick name of stubby. I like the 9" version. Mine is from Cold Steel but it's discontinued. It's perfect. I wish they made a 15" Bull Kukri.
But Alan is awesome.
1:17 and it was at that moment....lol
How does this kukri compares to a kukri from Nepal? i would like to known what will be best in the field, a 1075 blade or a 5160 leaf spring steel?
Yuri Sierra rust is going to be the major problem for both. With a blade that thick the difference between those steels would be minute. Condors quality will be hard to beat Nepalis price would be hard to beat. All comes down to what you want.
13AM M77 oh thanks for the answer, yeah at this thickness doesn't matter the steel so much :)
Yuri Sierra no problem
This is a Western view of the kukri. The Condor Heavy Duty or K-TACT Kukri is almost exactly what you get in *tourist/export* kukris/khukuris from Nepali i.e.:
- Too heavy
- Too thick
- Full-tang (rare for kukris)
- Very unbalanced (weight in handle)
Traditional Kukris are not for heavy duty jobs and in Nepal kukris are not used to cut/chop any thing larger than a human's arm size. If you study what a *traditional Kukri* is you will be surprised at the difference between a Condor made kukri & a real traditionally made kukri.
sweetcostarica yeah, i know, actually i have watched your videos about khukuris :)
Alan K(ay)ukri !
So... Why is this style of knife good?
it chops like an axe but he could still use it with one hand if he had too......he said it in the vid....
Amazon $118 😱🤯
What the hell happened to this man.
I can't find him.
In Nepal we spell it Khukuri not kukri.
We can do anything with khukuri to survive . And it's easy to carry also.,
Khukuri is khukuri it is not knife.
You can give a name to khukuri.
Example :- mark khukuri, Paul khukuri such as.
..
I wish the handle had a guard.. That’s a lot of blade… I’d be concerned about sliding up onto it…
oh, you mean a kukri,!
Is the big guy makeuped???????? xD
KiNGBERRi he looked already at the show that way, i don't believe he did his "Make-up" every single day for 58 days in the woods, so no, probably no make up
Alan Kays Voice makes me MOIST.
Your kukri is different than india
That Condor rep in the background was very unhelpful
LAS FÁBRICAS MILITARES DE ARMAMENTOS DEBEN ESTABLECER UNA ÚNICA MEDIDA STANDARD DEL GROSOR (THICKNESS) DE LA HOJA DEL KUKRI MILITAR EN 5 MM Y LA INCORPORACIÓN DE UNA PEQUEÑA E INDISPENSABLE SIERRA CON 24 DIENTES EN SU LADO OPUESTO Y CERCA DEL GRIP. 👥🌐👥 ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛
1:18 lol
Two is one and one is none. Author unknown
Much better to have a modified Crunch multitool, modified Condor E tool, with real offset in the saw teeth and a 6" saw edge, with the curve of the saw blade, mostly removed on that side. swap the blades out on the Crunch for a carbon steel regular blade curved knife, awl a couple of files. Add a Hooyman saw blade and you'll have far more ability to get things done than any one tool. This saves the need of the big knife, the axe and the saw. so it saves one pick. Not taking the ferro rod saves a pick. so does not taking the fishhooks.Take one of Chief aj's slingbows, with the 4 fishing arrowhead, each with 4 wire tines, you can convert each tine into 2 fishooks, 24 in half a day. In place of the saw, axe and big knife, take the e tool and crunch. That leaves a pick that is best filled by taking a 2 person hammock, made of 9 strand paracord. Not taking a ferrorod lets you take the paracord gillnet. With those 2, you can access those inner strands and make 4000 sq ft of 4" mesh netting. That will feed you, along with juicing the kelp.
Why anyone would choose that knife is just beyond me!....Why in the world would you choose that knife out of all the other decent knives? Am I missing something? If so, what is it? I'd put my rat-7 or and ESEE knife close to that size up against that any day.....Can it do something special that I'm not aware of? Don't say chopping! My rat-7 is a great chopper, dicer, and it would whittle that crazy looking thing under the table!
С изгибом перестарались!!!
Only two things can survive a nuclear attack. Cockroaches and Alan Kay.
he said shot show 2017 lol
Obviously he's an expert he's wearing a headband and the requisite leather necklace.
No finger guard- I wouldn't be using that pommel to strike...
If he likes that imitation crap, imagine what he would think of a real khukuri.
Defence....holy moly you americans watch roo many movies
