Lilac bonsai is a great idea. Especially if you can end up with a tree full of flowers for that short bloom period. I have a massive lilac bush outside my house that I want to start a bonsai off of. Great video as always 👍

Thank you! I appreciate that. And I'd love to see it if you make a video out of it!

The only other person I’ve seen “de-pot” a tree like that was the Aussie Bonsai Bloke, and MAN does that look satisfying! Nice looking roots, interesting to see how this one develops.

It was actually kind of fun! I knew it was pot bound but didn't think it would be that bad.

Honestly, I find them to be a bit finicky to work with. Very pretty, but they don't like a lot of fuss. If you want an easy species to start with, try a ficus. They're cheap and available everywhere, and they can take a beating.

I would be what they may call a newbie when it comes to Bonsai ...i got this lilac bottom price cheap for only $5 thats the only reason why i chose this tree and also i don't have the space to let it grow naturally

Hey Mike, great work! Completely agree with all your pruning decisions there. I also have a lilac experiment! And likewise, I don't know what type of lilac lol . For my experiment I decided to try a lilac literati because the lilac trunk is so bendy and flexible. In case you're interested you can see it on flickr here: flic.kr/s/aHsmhDGW4x

Thank you! I love the way yours looks. I may copy cat just a little on my next one that I'm going to do soon. I have a bigger lilac that needs some serious attention. If I copy yours I'll give you a shout out!

@@BonsaiBoise cheers Mike! The only thing I regret about these is that the beautiful flowers last a very short time, compared to wisteria which seem to last longer. But hey, every species has its special features. I will be honoured if you decide to do a similar experiment and I'll look forward to see its development! Regards from Dave in freezing cold Madrid

Dead. I think I got too ambitious with it a little too early in the year

Not bad, but I think your videos would be more interesting, if you'd explain while working on the tree, instead of first explaining everything in theory and then show the actual work with just some boring music.
