Its cool how Anderson Paak is a dope artist in his own right and he was down to hit the drums for the squad.
For me, he was the best surprise!
He owned them drums 🥁 too!! Go Andy!!
Was that paak yeah? Man was going innnn
The look of delight on his face was telling. Paak was having the time of his life and just happy to be there.
I mean he drums for other bands too
I love how Anderson Paak was just happy to be there he’s smiling and singing along with Em hahaha
Definitely, his energy was INSANE! it put a big ass smile on my face lmao
he is always so happy, he is such an underrated artist so im glad he atleast got to play the drums
Paak is my happy place... Dude's got amazing energy
Anderson Paak is a feel good type of personality
My fave part is during Lose Yourself and everyone is vibing. It’s about the collective. Dre on the boards, Em rapping one of the most motivational songs ever, Anderson Paak on the drums… musicians doing their talent. You see the whole thing vibing. 50 and Mary vibing on the couch.
They must have cut it from the version posted on UA-cam, but I'm pretty sure Snoop and Dre were sitting on the couch and snoop lights one.
Yeah, especially after JLo went all “I didn’t get enough time” because she split it w/a single other person, Shakira. Like how can all these legends split time and aren’t ragging on one another with Eminem even giving up half his set for 50 and said he wouldn’t do it without him. All love, no selfishness whatsoever. ❤
This is a huge moment for kendrick
He is literally performing in the super ball with 3 of his top 5, that's how u achieve your dream
At Home.....But God
He didn’t just get a grammy for Lose Yourself, he won a whole oscar for it
... an oscar That he didn't even show up for! Lol!
@@Sunkhrist he showed up but he just showed up last Oscar to perform it. He didn't want to be around a bunch of do-gooders is something I think he said back in the days from old youtube footage I've seen
@@choice12ozborne yea that and he thought he didnt stand a chance of winning so why bother going
I mean to put it completely straight the song netted him 2 grammys and 1 Oscar. For major awards.
They shouldn’t have made him do it though lol but it wasn’t about em it was about the culture
Kendrick’s intro was just insane. Everyone has their legacy established and all but Kendrick just exemplifies young raw POWER in his talent
Personally Kendrick killed that shit
@@raymondalvarez9925 For me too

Interestingly enough, Eminem wrote AND produced this anthem for the ages. The whole planet rocks with this track. It's untouchable.

“It’s about how it’s moving you” love that! Loved Kendrick and all the respect he paid to all the OGs. The Whole thing was just so amazingly crafted!
The transition from Kendrick to Eminem was dope as fuk
Yeah, Mary wasn't signed to Dre but Dre produced some of her hits. I believe Dr. Dre was highlighting some of his hits. I think everybody fits perfectly.
When the beat came in for Em the crowd went nuts compared to the rest. I also thought Mary J fit in just fine. She's fire.
"Lose Yourself" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, making it the first hip hop song to receive the award, and also won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance.
They could have lost this song

I’m glad we can all give Dre his flowers while he’s here. Everything he’s done, he’s a legend, this whole performance was amazing

Pretty great. No bad parts. Feels like everyone brought an element special to them. Kendrick brought the performance. Mary brought the soul. 50 brought the shock (unannounced) and awe (one of the biggest bangers ever), Em brought the energy, Snoop brought hella swagger, and Dre was the glue; the mastermind behind it all. It’s like a hip hop Voltron, with Dre as the head.
Lots of winners here, but coming with a solid performance like he did I think you have to acknowledge this day belonged to Dre.
Yeah I'd say thats the best super bowl performance I have enjoyed up there with Prince and Michael Jackson. I also enjoyed the Shakira and J Lo performance for many reasons 😁
Haha, I like that you said, Voltron! I've had that name in my head for weeks! So cool you should say that!
Forreal! I was like "THEY GOT 50!?!? OH SHIT!"
I love your view on it but I could’ve done without the soul
Dre brought the $ too. 7 million just to get censored.
I think the Mary J "No more Drama" was fitting for all of the B.S. that's been going on in the world and thought that was a great tie in. Great performances by all! It was one of my favorites!!
Yesss perfect!!! She brought the balance because everyone was hitting hard, I needed her to prepare for Kendrick 🤗
I thought the same
Just an FYI, this was more a tribute to Dre more than a LA Hip Hop Halftime performance, Dre did produce the No More Drama Mary J album including Family Affair and it just so happened to be one of the top sellers so it made perfect sense for her to be there.
I'm 71 and have watch all of the Superbowl's and there have been some great shows, but I have NEVER seen anything like this one. The set, the live music, the dancers and the performers were all amazing. This has to go down as one of the best --if not THE BEST show ever. I am so glad I livid to see it .
WoW...how cool is that! Keep it up! 😊👋
Thank you 🙏🏿
Great comment. I wish God bless you with more superbowls to come and you witness them all. Salud amigo.
Awesome ❤️
Dre put in 7 million $ for the set and everything. he literally made this happen.
The transition to Mary J. Blige's “Family Affair” fit in perfectly. Dre produced those beats so it made sense why Mary would fit into the show. I thought it was a nice Hip Hop/R&B-ish transition.
Perfectly said
Mary always been apart of hip hop from method man to favio. She his hip hop and soul!
Mary is a Hip Hop Queen first off, for real. With that being said tho, I get what you're saying and I do think the track she opened with worked for the show but after that, it just didn't seem to fit. Being an RnB singer surrounded by rappers? But more than that, singing a sad song was just an odd choice to me.
Seemed a little off, to me, just my opinion.
I fully agree and yes she is hip hop / R&B, BUT my only thing is No more pain shouldnt of been in it.. like a happy dance and Everyone having a good time then a SLOW song .. could of picked a more up beat song..
Lit🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mary is the queen of hip hop and R&B😂 so I think that she fits perfectly.
Dude, the whole thing was an anthology of survival for the past 35 years. That's how Mary fits.
Agree with you about the entire perfromance, and Em has an Oscar for Lose Yourself.
When you paused about the "Avengers of Hip Hop", Kendrick and 50 were saluting eachother
I disagree with k dot best performance. You can't even understand 75% what he says and hes a lyricist
I didn’t watch and not going to. I hear it was a wokety woke show which I figured it would be. However, half of the people told me they loved the half time shown. The other half says specifically Eminem was not good at all. It figures cuz Eminem uses harmonic layering in tracks and I’ve seen him live. He’s trash. When he was in his 20s he could do live.

Mary J was known as the queen of hip hop/r&b! She was the first r&b artist with a hip hop energy ❤️

Yea this whole thing seems like a continuation of the GTA update with Dr Dre’s new music
The whole thing has been like a celebration of life and accomplishments for the one and only Dr. Dre
You can't overlook Mary J's impact on hip hop even though she's not a rapper. Not only does she have classic records with Dre, but that Mary J/Method Man song is a classic record. She fits into this show perfectly
I thought the surprise shouldve been Method Man doing that song with her instead of 50 cent

Mary performing No More Drama was perfect after EVERYTHING that Dr. Dre has been through. You gotta look at the whole picture man! This was lowkey a tribute to him and who he has influenced over his career.

I thought everyone blew it out of the park, no doubt. But at the end of the day, you have to give it to Dre because you have to add his overall production of the entire show to his performance. And the production- sound and set quality- won the show
Gotta remember Em wrote those lyrics for him lmao. So yeah Dre is killer and one of the best but Eminem was behind that
It’s Snoop wearing a blue crip suit after being told not to have his flag . Eminem kneeling even after being told not to , and Anderson Paak on the drums just happy to be there 😂😂. Great just great !

I said Kendrick had the most visually attractive performance, but when I watched other views of the halftime show and they showed the celebs and audience members, they were going nuts when they heard that guitar for Em cut on! They rapped this song like they created it! 🤣🤣
Dre rocking to Em with the finger in the air gave me chills
The Dre & Snoop (and 2Pac) parts hit the hardest for me. Two parts in particular: when California Love dropped and then at the end when Dre started playin' the lead-in to Still D.R.E. Goosebumps for both of those.
Also, I gotta say, I've re-watched this performance like 30 times now. I've never done that for any of the previous ones. These guys are such legends.
Kendrick’s performance was so cool. I loved the aesthetics he brought. And of course Eminem brought the electricity.

Same!! I would have died! My heart could not have took it. lol. I was waiting for a PAC hologram for real!
I haven’t ever gone out of my way to listen to Mary J Blige before but she stood out to me as one of the strongest performances of all the artists. She held it down for sure.
Sometimes the right “fit” isn’t the one who performance aligns with those others, sometimes it’s a business decision based on what the artist is like to work with. And the history the artists have had throughout time and their individual experiences on their path.
I don’t know if missy or anyone else could have brought the Soul like Mary J did.
He Choose Mary J because he has produced songs for her
Mary J. And Dre has a history. He produced her 1 song. She was a perfect fit.
Throughout the whole performance anytime Dre's face was on the screen I was struck with how incredibly proud he must feel how validating after all of these years to be up on that stage performing with artist that we might not have ever seen if not for him. Very moved by how emotional it made me feel for him. But then I got to thinking that it was even more monumental than what I was even giving it credit for because of his brain aneurysm that he suffered from last january. Just a little over a year ago and for him to have survived that and still be here on this Earth and to be able to give that performance in LA is phenomenal and I think by most people's standards this will go down as the greatest show.
Yes!!!! Seeing him beaming his smile really touched me.
@@queencerseilannister3519 I have rewatched a few times and its just all positive and inspiring feelings.

I'm all the way from the UK and seeing them all together up there sent shock waves through heart and soul. It's like seeing God's man.
Best performance was EM because the crowd were into the song but the best performer was Kendrick because of the song, energy and he engaged in the choreography more. But the most one that affected me was with Dre and Snoop.

What impresses me the most about Eminem is how when he performs live, he sounds nearly exactly like he does on the record. Even now at his age for the most part, he doesn't get out of breath and keeps the flow and speed of the original tracks. A lot of these performers as they get older can't keep the same speed as they used to, they get out of breath easier, pause during lyrics to breath, let the crowd sing parts so they can catch a breath, etc. He doesn't and it's so impressive
Interestingly probably Eminem's biggest live performance event ever
Him being actually very nervous for once is something incredible to witness
💯💯 Respect the GOAT. The crowd went crazy
Nah, Kendrick's opening was too 🔥🔥 He had the choreo, the breath control, stage presence, energy, and let's overlook all the subtle symbolism... Every time I watch this performance I cry like a baby because the memories that stem from these songs are a summation of my childhood and teenage years. I instantly go back to a time when I was so happy and all was right in the world. You hear that Em intro and the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. This wasn’t only just about hip-hop but it was about when hip-hop and rap used to actually be great.
If you really think about it these performances took you back from rap in the 90s to the early 2000s and then up until the middle 2000s.
This is easily top 5 halftime shows, my personal favorite just cuz of what it represents and the amount of legends up there, seeing Snoop up there throwing up his set and c walking just vibing out was great. Historic moment for the culture and music in general, I wasn't even alive for Dre/Snoop like that and was a little ass kid during the Em/50/Mary eras but ik all their music so this meant a lot to me as a hip hop and R&B head

Everything about the show was awesome.
The whole theme of the halftime show was getting over all the shii we've been through this year. Reliving the past to escape the present, even if it's just for a moment. This halftime show was banging and Dr. Dre's production helped with that.
My reaction totally snuck up on me. I got legit emotional during Em’s performance. To know how much it meant to him (and I think his taking a knee could be partially in solidarity with Kaepernick and BLM, but also I think he was honestly overwhelmed with how much this moment meant). The grind of 30+ years. It’s lame to say but it was a proud moment 🥺
Totally agree with your comment. I also like Anderson Paak having the time of his life with those drums and singing Em's song at the same time.
I was happy Em didn't let anyone talk him out of taking the knee. I was disappointed that Dre and the other Black men who were up there didn't feel this was a perfect moment to show solidarity for BLM and Kaepernick.
