thank you so much ; I’m a beginner , I’ve been practicing this video for a month and today I made it to the end I’m so happy and proud of myself , thank you sooo much 🎹🖤
I'm super-pleased for you Alexandra! My Immortal is not an easy piece for a beginner so that's a real achievement. Well done. Hope you're at that stage where you can play it and it 'gives back' to you... such an awesome tune :)
I've been playing piano most of my life. I'm terrible at reading sheet music and I can't even tell you what a G major chord looks like. The way you teach is simple and straight forward. Thank you.
I followed this tutorial.. I really did... But this song makes me think about my mum and when I started to play the chorus with pure pain I was amazed at what flowed through my fingers.
Thanks so much! This is the only video I’ve found that has the actual accompaniment part for the bridge (even if it isn’t 100 percent accurate it’s good enough) :) Thanks again!
Thanks Nathan, glad you liked it :) Yep... that middle section is a bit of a beast. Extremely difficult to get absolutely accurate per the studio recording version from the album. And, depending what you want to achieve, maybe not actually the best approach - I've gone into very intricate detail but if you listen to a live performance, Amy actually plays a far simpler 'chordal' accompaniment while she sings over the top. Block chords, rather than broken chords/arpeggio, might be better if you want to play and sing at the same time. Anyway, enjoy!
If I get to the end of this without my head exploding with the difficulty as a beginner I will be super proud!. My brain is sooo distracted easily so concentrating is so hard for me.(school report when young)...very easily distracted’ But hey I’m on the second verse after 3 weeks of an hour a day practice. I love the vocal it’s within my range would be a huge huge achievement for me to play and sing this Thank you .
I jus subscribed! Thank you! I’m jus starting to learn this song so I’ll keep on coming on here until I learn the whole song! I really appreciate you making this video for us! God Bless
You're welcome :) In case it helps you, I also did a Synthesia video of this piece, here: ua-cam.com/video/AFOTF4yDpbY/v-deo.html ... and a slowed down version, here: ua-cam.com/video/oqSPaNbcEhg/v-deo.html
Hi I’m learning this song and at 3:21 you say to use sustain pedal but I don’t know when to use it. Do I keep it down during the whole section or do I lift it up at certain points. If I’m supposed to lift it up at certain points I don’t know when to do that.
Hi Aidan, I think you're asking some really good questions. There are certain topics - rhythm, expression, pedalling etc - which I could (and maybe should) extract from this and any other tutorial and put into a tutorial in their own right. Some basic pointers within what I can do here in the comments: 1. Above all else, use your ears. Listen to the sound you're creating by holding down the pedal. Do the notes that are sustaining sound 'pleasant' to you? When the sound becomes unpleasant or 'muddy', now you know for next time where to have lifted and then reapplied the pedal - just before/at the point where you know you're going to get that 'muddy' sound. 2. Another way to maybe think about it is to re-pedal when the harmony changes. I.e. the underlying chord structure of the segment you're playing. Notes within one chord structure will generally sound good together - but moving to a new chord structure is likely to be when you get clashing sounds. 3. Very, very broadly... and this is really not a perfect explanation... you might expect the harmony to change about once every bar/measure. So every four counts. But that's not really going to hold true for the whole piece. And the topic of rhythm/counting/bars/measures is another thing I don't really dig into, so I'm unsure how helpful this will be to you. Just a few thoughts for you. Hopefully more useful than useless! I'm sure you and other commenters will let me know!
Great tutorial! Thank you for making this. Any chance you could do the whole song at medium speed without talking? I would love to see that. I would like to just see what your fingers are doing at medium speed. Anyhow, thank you so much for making this tutorial! Very much appreciated!
Ok... sorted... here's a slow, 'live keys' demonstration of all the components - verse, chorus and bridge: ua-cam.com/video/oqSPaNbcEhg/v-deo.html And here's a full speed, full structure Synthesia tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/AFOTF4yDpbY/v-deo.html Hope they help you :)
@@EscapeTheBoxPiano OMG. Thank you so much for doing this!! Sorry for the late reply. I didn't even know you did this. UA-cam didn't alert me about this. Once again, I can't thank you enough!! Thank you for all your hard work doing this!!
Love this tutorial! Is there anyway to make the bridge ("I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone...") similar to this live concert ua-cam.com/video/ANbyXGc0z4U/v-deo.html. Starting at 2:45.

Glad it was helpful! I've a couple of other videos on My Immortal on my channel if you search - might supplement this tutorial. Just a thought :)

@1:25 it sounds like you say D I think it's just my hearing. It's a great tutorial just something I picked up on
Glad you're enjoying the tutorial! At exactly 1:22 I say (and play) "B" which I guess you might hear as "D". But it's definitely B :)
Thank you!its great lesson

Was great until you got to the bridge and stopped showing what it sounds like to speed piece by piece
Not a fan of that bridge by the way.. Doesn't sound very powerful, more ball room but hey that's just me =/
the bridge sounds like shit
The bridge sounds awesome to me!! I love it!!
It's a sing along piece you idiot. Of course the bridge alone doesn't sound as powerful as it would be with someone singing it lmao you people.
