I'd say KFC in China is more worthy of a video than McD. Not only is KFC competing heads on with McD, they also developed a complete new set of menu to cater to Chinese customers. McDonald menus are basically the same everywhere.
I can still vaguely recall very first KFC opening in Shanghai around 1989, when I was 6 years old...In early days people queuing hundreds of meters to try it out. KFC kinda failed all over the world (I've seen lots of closure in Canada and very unstable quality in UK) losing to McD, but in China, KFC is just as good, if not better.
China McDonalds have different menu than US. Some things are the same, but not all. McDonalds in Japan are much different. Also Burger King in China is more different. Then Pizza Hut in China is very different! Chinese food. Spaghetti. Rice with tomato sauce. Escargot. Octopus. The pizza is very different. The cheese is soy cheese I think. All the meats doesn’t mean pepperoni, sausage an Canadian bacon. It literally means Peking duck, bbq pork, Chinese seasoned chicken, corn, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Very different.
Becouse of face. Shenzen is the leanest city in China. Most of China (99%) is a third wirld shithole. Shenzen is what the chinese government want White people to think China looks like
Because NY Subway is very old, designed in the 19th century well before the modern clean aesthetic was even a thing. Go to the Washington DC Metro if you want to see a modern, clean American underground..
omg in a matter of minutes after eating a sandwich at Mcd in Shenyang my stomach began to churn and hurt. I had to ask my wife where the bathroom was and she gave me some tissue. I went to the restroom and some of the lights in the stalls were off. I flicked the wrong switch and turned off the light some lady was using. I'm sure she was cussing me out but I had no time to waste. Besides Iraq I did not expect to have to squat and I had a battle. Bring stomach medicine because you'll need to build your tolerance of the food. Drink bottled water.
Something I saw in the video had me wondering about asking... I find that when I am in 'Chinatown' in any larger city, that when one is walking down a busy footpath (aka sidewalk) the Chinese pay very little attention to moving (equally) to one side out of common courtesy. I even experimented with this after having noticed this over many years of working in different cities (it wasn't easy as I've been conditioned with deep seeded/better manners as a child) and *forced* myself to keep walking straight ahead and only move as much as the Chinese person did. I found that indeed, nearly all Chinese people would have walked straight through me as I simply stopped *instead of moving* to the side.
When I was in China I couldn't believe how much cheaper it was. For a Big Mac meal in Ireland it's nearly €10 but in China it was around €2, for the exact same meal. I thought it was really cool that they had fried rice and green tea on the menu. My friend had green tea flavoured ice cream.
BianLei , funny thing is that your salary is not a very significant factor in the price of a meal. A crew of 4-5 people at these places can turn out hundreds of meals per hour. And they do , every day.
travelling around asia in the past the only times I have been ill with sickness is after eating at the big commercial food places , kfc being the culprit in the main , I have eaten food from street vendors or local cafes and restaurants with no problem at all , I think it just goes to show always pick somewhere where the food is cooked fresh and it will taste a whole lot better too
I remember when the first KFC opened on the Bund in Shanghai in 1989. Foreigners stood in a separate queue as we could not use RMB, we had to use FEC. They were terribly crowded and you had to wait for table.
And some people get triggered even though that's just what the ad itself said. But that's political correctness. People hate to look at themselves through someone else's eyes.
@@Dowlphin whatever, Winston did not say that queens are subhuman or some other nonsense. He simply pointed out something that, for him, is more consistent with transvestitism than typical masculine gender norms in Western/Euro-colonial civilization.
I live in the United States and think all fast food, McDonald’s included, is absolutely terrible food. It makes you fat and feel like crap. Haven’t been to a location in 3 years, never plan to again.
I'm in Zhengzhou, and yesterday I got a McChicken and fries. The only other burgers available were the fillet o' fish and another spicy chicken burger you can't get in western McD, which may be more of a speciality here in the north. I must confess I do like the coffee at McCafe - some of the best available in China. I rarely buy meals in McD. As Winston said, why would you when there is so much better Chinese food available? Regarding the comments on the women. Yes, women in China generally dress well, and like to show off their legs, which on the many slim women who still exist in China do look very sexy. Unfortunately obesity is on the rise here too, though still far less than in western countries.
Yeah, I'm all for guys expressing themselves emotionally, but makeup is going a little too far. Be comfortable with who you are, don't photoshop your face.
I quite enjoy watching your videos. It is like being in the candid camera in the life of a person living there. You do gain great insight into living in China. I live in Taiwan, Taipei and it is much more fast paced here, with ordering food to walking on the streets. Quite a comparison.
Someone may have already said this, but yes I do remember having those "green wrap" things at McDonald's locations in my area as well - my area being southeast United States.
In HK McDonalds they have these Red Bean Pies in addition to their apple pies. They also got these shaker flavour packs which you can put into your fries. Breakfast they got those popular items like instant noodles, or pasta in soup where you would normally see in the many 冰室/茶餐廳. Those are the items you wont find in the Western McDonalds.
Man. I was in China for 3 weeks recently and loved it there. Seeing those Shenzhen streets again makes me wish I was still there. I had KFC once when I was in China. The rest of the time I did as you said in your video go out and find some food. It was awesome.
I didn't realize the water misters worked in high humidity environment. I know they work very well in the desert heat environment. Good to know it works in high humid heat as well.
I recently moved from Chengdu to Deyang (also in Sichuan but about an hour by train north of Chengdu). I have been to McDonalds twice in the past month or so because I was craving a big mac. The first time it was a Sunday around 3pm and they ONLY had the fillet o fish on the menu! The second time was a Saturday around 6pm and they only had the breakfast menu. In Hawaii, you can get Saimin, a Japanese style ramein noodles. Also, for breakfast they have Portuguese sausage with scrambled eggs and rice as well as spam with rice and eggs.
do chinese consider being tan as being poor?, the more white you are the more rich you are kind of thing? i know in the "old days" they did, cause poor people work outside they get a tan, rich people dont have to do that so they are milk white. i see people walking with a embrella on a sunny day, gives me the idea it is still that way.

I like the vaporizer's keeping people cool. I went to Kwanriam market in Bangkok and into their cafe/restaurant where they had rugged looking fans and beneath each fan were fine jets of steam. The fans blew the steam around and it condensed, falling as a very refreshing, cool mist.
the thing with the metro terminal is actually pretty common, our system uses the same machines and many times i have had locals in front of me in line change the language to english before i got there.
I saw those water vaporizer things once in Sevilla (Spain) where it was about 50ºC. Was very nice. I wish they have them here in The Netherlands right now, when we hit high temperatures for many weeks now...
A lot of the Maccas in China/HK now have self serve ordering machines, you cannot pay with cash though (either card or mobile payments) so no use if you're a tourist!
In the hot sun of Arizona, many pubs/restaurants also use vaporizers like that to keep people cool. My favorite was a pub with a huge patio out back where it was just fog lowering onto everyone. It was cool and wonderful there, while it was 108 or so degrees F (about 42C) outside. That's a nicer McDonalds than I've ever been to, and I'm from the home of the "Big Mac"!
For about AU$1.50 in China I have bought 10 vege and pork dumplings with peanut sauce. They are by far way better then anything I have ever had from Maccas!
That exact McDonald is where I met up with my friends when I go to Dongmen, which is like every weekend in my teenage years. Good to see it's still there.
Winston, the issue of no photos in McDonalds existed before the scandal. When I was in Weifang, Shandong at the train station McDonalds, I tried to take photos of the menu. An old woman came up to me and said something I could not understand. My Mandarin is very weak. Then an younger man behind the counter said, "No photos, no photos!" I stopped taking photos, of course. I figured it had something to do with marketing "secrets".
In Hong Kong recently. There are a number of McDs (not all) undergone renovation as McCafé. Besides the traditional menu, there is a larger selection of baked goods and gourmet coffee (cappuccino, latte, etc). In a HK McCafé there is a counter for bubble tea (珍珠奶茶). In N. America you find bubble tea booths in shopping malls but not in a McD. There is an older McD down the street on Waterloo Rd. 窩打老道 where I was staying which didn't look too clean. In the washroom there was toilet paper on the floor. Here you can order a Big Mac like everywhere else which is listed on the menu as 巨無霸. Their feature is the GCB (Grill Chicken Burger) 板燒雞腿飽. I got a "Half and Half" cream in a container for coffee. In N. America (US & Canada), cream can be 10% or 25% fat. You can ask for milk which is just 2% fat. In some coffee shops like Starbucks you also ask for skim milk and soy milk. In Canada, the McDs are offering coffee promotion. On each cup there is a peel off sticker. You collect 7 and get a free medium coffee but not in HK. Free WiFi is available in a HK McD but unlike in N. America there is a 20m limit for usage to discourage people from sitting around for too long. Went into a McCafé inside Maga Box (a shopping mall in Kowloon Bay 九龍灣 with an IKEA store on top). Nice decor, has a variety of cakes and a bubble tea counter. For paying you can use cash, credit & bank cards. There is also the Octopus card option (a money card unique to HK) in McD outlets. You fill up the card when it is empty. You can even use an Octopus card to take public transport.
I remember when I was in Johannesburg in 1981-82, we could not find the fast food places (like McDonald's & Burger King) like we had back home. I came to love places like Shaft 58 (in Northgate Mall) and King Prawn (in Kempton Park), but I sure missed getting my burger "fix" from McD's! lol Are there foods that you miss from South Africa that you can't get in China?
I remember when I visited the McDonald's in Xi'an. I think they added red pepper to the coffee, I didn't mind though, it was 3am and I arrived off a bus from the airport. It was the only place open and I was starving. I think I ordered 3 combos.
4:53 why do you care so much? im not a big fan of make-up myself but everyone should be able to use make up if they want to. srsly.. whats the problem?
I was thinking of using this for class until I got to the part about men's makeup. If you know anything at all about Japan, you know that its been an important business category for a long time. Since when was it okay to be a homophobe, anyhow?
Look one of the most powerful men in the world is gay and is known to occasionally wear make up. And who f****ing cares? If you own an iPhone then you know who I'm talking about. Opinions and comments, that all we have. If this guy gets grossed out by an ad of a man soliciting make up, what does that tell you about this guy? Use your own opinion and judgment and comment if you like.
+Tovarizer Winston is South African, most of the men are tough guys and very macho(hunting, drinking, etc.) so give the guy a break. It's just how he's been brought up.
+James Anderson, Anderson you're right about everything and I apologize. but, forgive me for sounding crude... this guy gives off the impression that he's an intellectual, civilized, and educated...and you just made him out to be this brute primitive caveman from South Africa and this isn't the case, '. but on the other hand I'll let bygones be by bygones... thanks for your comment
Why does it have to be a homophobic thing? What does makeup have to do with gender or sexual orientation anyways? I don't think men OR women should wear makeup.
This is such an interesting channel. Good example of how UA-cam can be used for something uplifting and educational. Video request: television culture in China. What kinds of shows do people watch there? Do ppl watch a lot of tv? And you should do a video where you go to the movies in China!

Wait a minute........
MacDonald's in China uses real meat!!!!!!
Wow. I think here in US is less than 50% meat, most Soy and sugar.
he kind of up sad you, ?? Chinese love food, they can eat and finish all kind of things. done!
How can you read Chinese? That's the hardest language in the world.
It's not that difficult to be honest, once you start learning, you'll find that it's fairly straight forward
serpentza www.effectivelanguagelearning.com/language-guide/language-difficulty
+Jackie Y. Freedom Japanese are way harder than Chinese
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I AM SAYING
+LinguisticsandGeography yeah it is pretty easy to learn if you really try.
Thanks for the insight. Its always cool to see places from around the world
Nothing wrong with men wearing make up in my opinion. If it makes them feel better, more power to them. It washes off at the end of the day.
Ninna V. lol
marruecos 17 so what if someone is gay tho?🤔. It's biologicaly something Ur born with.
Check out the rock bands from Japan.
Being Gay is the result of a birth defect. Men wearing makeup is just Gay :~)
Ninna V.
*It washes off at the end of the day.* Down the drain along with their masculinity!
I remember when I visited the McDonald's in Xi'an. I think they added red pepper to the coffee, I didn't mind though, it was 3am and I arrived off a bus from the airport. It was the only place open and I was starving. I think I ordered 3 combos.
4:53 why do you care so much? im not a big fan of make-up myself but everyone should be able to use make up if they want to. srsly.. whats the problem?
that man on the billboard is actually a very famous dresser in china. he shows up in lots of commercials and variety shows recommending make-up goods
I was thinking of using this for class until I got to the part about men's makeup. If you know anything at all about Japan, you know that its been an important business category for a long time. Since when was it okay to be a homophobe, anyhow?
And you win the award for the first person to bitch about that comment.
Homophobe is FEAR of gays..disgust isn't fear.
He’s in China, he can say whatever he wants, as long as it’s not against the CCP!
Sadly Mcdonald India had a dispute with their supplier in North of India
So all their good stuff is restricted to Mumbai and Delhi
cool video but why the homophobic commentary?
+Clay Perdue a phobia is a fear of something, and I was just having a laugh at the silliness of the picture
serpentza , your in a wired position, i was shocked at what u said, but I still love Ur videos.
Shut the hell up, homophobic comment yea right. did you not watch the video? Pull your head out of liberal butt!
Constitutional American - it has nothing to do with being liberal. I'm liberal and know he's not homophobic. Please. Stop making assumptions.
the buzzing sound is probably the phone receiving SMS...
Salt.....
If you had ever been to South Africa you would completely understand
Why does it have to be a homophobic thing? What does makeup have to do with gender or sexual orientation anyways? I don't think men OR women should wear makeup.
This is such an interesting channel. Good example of how UA-cam can be used for something uplifting and educational. Video request: television culture in China. What kinds of shows do people watch there? Do ppl watch a lot of tv? And you should do a video where you go to the movies in China!
The netherlands (we were in Amsterdam) is very much like the U.K and when you have four children in tow, such a relief on the wallet as everything else is unfamiliar and expensive.
This McDonalds actually looks like a chinese restaurant in Germany.
Strange. You had observed elsewhere that dairy is rare in China, except for a few upscale retailers. How is the cheese at Pizza Hut?
Steamed bun of the Fillet-O-Fish is an unusual texture. Best thing on the menu. Only figured out it's not my phone buzzing at the end, couldn't find my messages, had a fit.
I know one American who live in Taiwan. He was taking aeroplane sometime to Zhuhai only to go eat Mcdonald breakfast at 1 USD!
