SSRI has really helped me out. I suffer from moderate to severe depression. My wife also doesn't really get involved in sex which makes it pretty boring. The SSRI has lifted my mood. It's also for the most part killed my sex drive. It's kind of a double win for me.

Because i live in UK, one thing that has always irritated me slightly with USA citizens is when they refer to medicines via their brand or proprietary name, because although i know most of them anyway, it's more accurate to use the generic name when discussing effects, in my opinion. Do many psychiatrists think every patient is completely mindless and will go home, immediately eat a wheel of gouda, and instantly die? Or are the side effects even with dietary restriction compliance really that much worse than for SSRIs that the significantly higher efficacy still isn't worth it? An interesting comparison to me is that haloperidol seems reached for without hesitancy in certain settings, so it can't be just oldness that makes MAOIs less preferred, because haloperidol is directly neurotoxic but NOT more effective than several atypicals.

I have ben treated for depression since age 17,and tried Tricyclics anti-depressants, and then years nothing. In the 1990's I got depressed again. I tried some of the new SSRi's and some made me very anxious. The Dr. gave me Paxil, Ativan, and Trazadone for sleep. I was ok but a few times felt I was speeding and over energetic especially after the gym. After a year I stopped, then tried Paxil, again and too much anxiety. I tried Effexor, and too much nausea, and after 1 week, I had to stop it. When Mirtazapine came out in the 1990's,my Dr. told me it may make me sleepy, so take it HS.I was knocked out for almost 2 wks ,took naps after work, at 37 yrs old, and started to eat everything. I called the Dr. and stopped it Strangely tried Mirtazapine a year ago, at a low dose, as I was having trouble sleeping. I slept well, no appetite increase, yet my sex drive increased a lot, and I was ok with it, Then 2 months late, I started having mouth movements. It was the only new medication. so my Dr and I stopped it and 2 wks later still trouble sleeping and increased depression. I went back on Mirtazapine, as my Dr. said it shouldn't cause Tardia Dyskinesias it isn't an antipsychotic medication. We resume, and the mouth movement are back. Now I'm on Celexa, which doesn't cause me anxiety, and may help with it. It doesn't cause many side effects except sexual, and I take a herbal pill for that, and I'm single. I can't take trazadone for sleep so I am on Ambien, which doesn't bother me.

There’s no proof of it being permanent. Mine lasted about 1.5 years, but it reversed itself. Unless you have concrete proof, stop scaring people.

I have ben treated for depression since age 17,and tried Tricyclics anti-depressants, and then years nothing. In the 1990's I got depressed again. I tried some of the new SSRi's and some made me very anxious. The Dr. gave me Paxil, Ativan, and Trazadone for sleep. I was ok but a few times felt I was speeding and over energetic especially after the gym. After a year I stopped, then tried Paxil, again and too much anxiety. I tried Effexor, and too much nausea, and after 1 week, I had to stop it. When Mirtazapine came out in the 1990's,my Dr. told me it may make me sleepy, so take it HS.I was knocked out for almost 2 wks ,took naps after work, at 37 yrs old, and started to eat everything. I called the Dr. and stopped it Strangely tried Mirtazapine a year ago, at a low dose, as I was having trouble sleeping. I slept well, no appetite increase, yet my sex drive increased a lot, and I was ok with it, Then 2 months late, I started having mouth movements. It was the only new medication. so my Dr and I stopped it and 2 wks later still trouble sleeping and increased depression. I went back on Mirtazapine, as my Dr. said it shouldn't cause Tardia Dyskinesias it isn't an antipsychotic medication. We resume, and the mouth movement are back. Now I'm on Celexa, which doesn't cause me anxiety, and may help with it. It doesn't cause many side effects except sexual, and I take a herbal pill for that, and I'm single. I can't take trazadone for sleep so I am on Ambien, which doesn't bother me.
I fukn love this video :). Just got back from the doctor, I wasn't happy with Venlafaxine (I had the problems you mention here with it) He literally asked me what I wanted to try next. I rolled the dice and chose Bupropion. Based on this video, thinking my choice may be ok. We will see. Thanks for video.
Anecdotally, bupropion has been much less activating for me than sertraline.

PSSD (post Ssri sexual dysfunction) is a real and scientifically proven horrible condition. You can read about it, there is very little research about it, but it is definitely a real condition. Telling PSSD Patients that maybe its because of their mental health is almost gaslighting.
There is one side effect that acures only when you've got PSSD and never from depression, and it is genital Anastasia/numbness.
and to the people who suffer from this horrible condition: I wish you'll get better. I am now a first degree student in brain study, and my goal is to do everything I can to help and find out as much as I can about PSSD. This is one of the main purposes in my life. So I hope this gives a little hope, stay positive, there are good people trying to figure this out!!! And we will ❤
