A Class 56 passes
Wet Carlisle.

We were surprised to find Black 5 44871 at the head of Saturday's Cumbrian Mountain Express. Tangmere had failed its Fitness to Run Exam after Thursday's run to Carlisle.
The loco carried a headboard commemorating the late Craig Potter, a young driver for the East Lancashire Railway.
Class 47 47848 brought up the rear.
A Class 56 passed through on Platform 1 - I almost missed it because of the other photographers at Platform 4!
Finally a pair of Class 90s brought in 4M30, the southbound Malcolm intermodal.
It was a wet day.
Avanti was hosting some small craft stalls on the circulating areas on Platform 4 plus a small brass group - hence the incidental music heard in the background.
The times shown on clips are for guidance only and shouldn't be taken as definitive.

At last a far more interesting steam loco than the spam can.
Tangmere needs to let it's bolier go cold for a while.
Let's hope that we see a more varied selection of steam loco's.
Provided LSL send more charters this way we can get the variety otherwise I think we are largely stuck when it comes to steam.

We can only wait and see if Tangmere makes an reappearance.
Those were the LSL Locos and the Riley Black 5 s heading to Fort William for West Coast

Not surprised tangmere failed. It's been hammered these last few weeks.

Just as well I didn't hop onto that Leeds train - the express sailed non- stop through Appleby.
Fascinating reflections in the windscreen of the leading class 90 - never seen that before!
I suspected it might. I find the reflections fascinating - and a good way to tell if a train has started moving

Wow! Tangere failed?! Yikes. I've seen it in many videos lately. Hope it's not too serious. Anyhow, that was a nice replacent and cool trains despite the weather.

I wondered how long it would be before Tangmere failed, been doing so many long journeys recently, I was going to come here for the class 33's and saw that charter was too low on bookings to run so chose another destination where it was fine almost day. Black 5 would of been nice to see
Its not the first time Tangmere hasn't been fit. A shame about the 33s though it looked like that was cancelled a few weeks ago. West Coast needs to bring one of their other runners up north for a while.
@@LeslieGilpinRailways I only found out on Thursday when looking up the times. West Coast could be struggling for custom with other companies now getting more popular using a variety of traction.
Great to see a black five at Carlisle once again. I will probably follow other comments. Tangmere needed a break, In my opinion Steam Locomotives are the closest thing we have created to a breathing machine, all breathing things need rest. By the way, the answer may be obvious, but why do these steam charters have an old diesel at the back?
The diesel is to provide electrical power for the air conditioning etc on the trains. The steam drivers dont like them pushing unless absolutely requested.
This'll come as no surprise to you, but I prefer the Black 5 (sorry to all Pacific/SR fans), especially in that early BR Lined livery. Love the masculine whistle tone too.
Still some wheel slippage when departing though. I wonder if a GWR Castle would have such problems...?
I regularly see a couple of pairs of class 90s waiting their next turn when I pass through Ipswich en route to/from London Liverpool St.
Sometimes think the slippage is down to trying to accelerate to quickly. I've seen the Black 5s - and even Tangmere - start without a slip

@@AviationAndRailway get either a photo jpeg less than 2mb or if your editing software allows take a frame which should come out as a jpeg. Then when you upload the video yt should allow you to upload a thumbnail
