It took several tries but I think I'm starting to get it more consistently. For those of you who are having a hard time, make sure you're angling the flat iron down (like she does in the video) and keep twisting the iron as you go down the strand. The slower you go, the tighter the curl. I had the problem of going too fast once I got toward the bottom of the strand so just be careful not to do that. Also practicing with the iron off and then turning it on once you feel confident will save you from frying your hair!!
