- Just some little modifications....pretty much a bone stock vanguard....runs pretty good, took the centrifugal clutch of to find out why it rattles so loud.
pre ignition key, no govenor, light flywheel
Best sounding vanguard I've ever heard and that header is just awesome.

Sounds like it has a slight lifter tap on one cylinder, as it warmed up it got louder and was noticeable on deceleration, just check your clearances, otherwise sounds great! and LOVE the exhaust!

I used to bolt these on to alternators in my last job and serviced them, we used to prefer the Briggs to the Honda V twin.
Sounds great. It's funny how us gear heads can sit here and spend 6 minutes looking at a video of an engine running and not even think twice about it. Do the pipes have to be of equal lengths? could you have made the right cylinder pipe go right into the left without the loop? What is the counter-indication for this?
Now that you mentioned it I never realized that yes,I sat here watching e video of an engine running in a garage and enjoyed it. lol.

Probably just the rating... I think mower engines are usually goverend to about 3500 RPM... Since HP is a calculation of Torque x RPM... the HP number will be low, I bet the Torque number is 40+
This would be a neat engine for a golf cart!
China is'nt Japan "MrTpengineer". And the Vanguard's are made at the daihatsu/ Toyota plant wich is owned by The Briggs Corp. (IN JAPAN). Maybe not the smaller Vanguard's, but the higher cubic one's is.

why would you buy this motor? 570cc and it only makes a measly 20hp. most bikes around the 500 to 600 range make around 50 hp. and the engines come with a gearbox
because its a v twin. they make measly hp, but make up for that in torque and sound.
checo podgorny in sound? it sounds like shit! And a bike engine at that same size will most likely be a twin, or even an inline four or possibly inline 3. And bike engines make more torque anyway, just thanks to their higher compression/ tune,and also actually rev, unlike these pump motors.
you gotta think. this engine is meant for mowing lawns, it don't need 50 hp.
20hp COS ITS RATED FOR 3500RPM ...try revving it to 7000 and see it fly into the ceiling!
Hey mate i was just saying that I have a racing lawnmower engine the same as this but it makes 120hp and revs up to 12000 rpms and puts out 75 ft lbs of torque cheers

I already have the videos on my channel. and I wonder if you still have this, because if you do, then maybe you could send me a few pictures of how the hoses and wires are hooked up, since mine is ssing parts when I bought it boken. I would like to know how a few hoses are hooked up to the unit. thank you.
Is this with the stock carb too? I'm planning on using a 23 hp kohler on my racing tractor, but the it has a pretty large deadspot. Then again, I should probably clean the carb out and see if that fixes it.

Hi nice engine no governor it will throw a rod unless….…… you get rods with bearings …..will be watching let's see what it can do. Are they tuned pipes should be equal lengths to a collector and you will more power with expansion pipe collector

+steve lewis Thats right, for a four stroke a tuned megaphone will add a few hp, but you have to know a bit about tuning resonances and such in the pipe.

Nice. We have to run original based carbs here in germany. Pistons are fine, i want to use the stock ones too in my next project. Do you run stock ignition coils? And what valve diameters do you run?

hello how did you get the engine to run with the fuel source below the engine? will it run if i have a marine tank? I'm building a v twin long tail boat and would love a little longer travel with 20l fuel instead of only 3.6L of gas
+Paradise Found vacuum pulse fuel pump. See that thing on the forward valve cover that the fuel line is going into? That's a fuel pump. Most v-twins I've seen come with one from the factory, since they lack a factory installed fuel tank due to the general size of them compared to say a 200cc single.

I have a 20hp vanguard and i'm cleaning the carb. how do i get the plastic caps off the fuel mix screw??? what rebuild kit will i need??
i guess they are only pushed onto the screws. don't know which kit it is, since you can reuse the parts. the rubber gasket around the float usually survives just fine.
I have the same motor for my Argo. I’m having problems with it. How to set the two needle screws on the carb? And can I just remove the governor as well?
I wouldn't recommend removing the governor on any engine unless built with proformace parts. And when I set my carbs I screw them all the way in and let it warm up then starting tuning.

Look for a used V-Twin Motorcycle engine if you haven't bought this one yet. This is a nice motor though. ..so im not doubting it.
very heavy, very expensive, not much power. a 250 2 stroke would be cheap and loads more power

Plus, This is probably built up to...But im unsure! It has a very nice sound to it though
And these engines last forever, but a 250 2smoke needs fresh pistons between every 20-50 hours (dirtbike engines)
