An exceptionally detailed, exhaustive, analysis of a truly unique firearm. I had hardly known anything about the Czech arms industry during the Soviet era. I wonder if it saw action in the Congolese revolution of the early sixties. Reminiscent of Warren Zevon's "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner."
As always, a thorough and fascinating exposé.

I wouldn't be surprised if this type of rifle was used to some extent in just about every regional conflict in Africa in the past 50-60 years. Thanks for watching Fred. Glad you found it informative!

I felt so bad for you, seeing how grimy that rifle was, and that you chose hand select option and did not get what you expected. But you know, you really got it cleaned up well, and I am sure it was a good adventure for you! Plus, you have stories to tell, just about cleaning the gun and how dirty it was. I am very happy for you. I got one too (hand select), and I was a little more fortunate as mine was in much better condition. But the mag has a lot of sandy grit in it, although the spring seems to function well. This is my first surplus rifle purchase and I am really excited to have this rifle! I have been watching a ton of videos, trying to get educated on this awesome rifle. I really hope I can find some of that 7.62x45 ammo so I can be even MORE excited about it! 😃👍

I got one of these on Feb 2020 not sure how many they had in stock then, but mine is in alot better shape at least cleaning wise than a hand select model. I personally think "hand select" means they put their hands on the first one they see.

I think your right about the hand select. I'll never do it again. It's not the best looking rifle but it has turned out to be an awesome shooter so I'm pretty happy with it. I do think it was a little overpriced for the condition though. Thanks for watching!!!

I did hand select from Classic a couple years ago... I had to convince myself that all the dings and lack of bluing gave my M57 a “custom” look. I love it now but it’s definitely a bummer when you pay extra and get a basic used firearm. That’s an awesome rifle either way.

I agree, it is a awesome rifle. I like my milsurps to have a used look. It adds to the history of the weapon for me. I just think Classic tossed this one in the box without looking though. I just noticed that mine does not have the handguard release buttons--both are missing! So it might be a bit of a challenge to get the handguard off without an extra set of hands, at least! So I have to say that I envy you in that sense! Plus the fact that you have gotten your hands on some of the ammo! I guess that's part of the adventure of purchasing and owning one of these magnificent rifles.

    • @ReadinessReviews

I got really luck with the ammo. I ordered it the same day I ordered the rifle and haven't seen any more for sale since. That's unfortunate yours is missing those release tabs. • @longmcarthurfan11

Hey, I just found out that I need the hand guard retainer, which is a piece that fits inside, underneath the gas system, and it has a couple tabs with openings on it that the hand guard clip tabs fit into. The buttons on the retainer rest on the outside of the rifle, and when you press on them, it releases them off of the hand guard clip tabs. It took me a while to figure that out, but I have since ordered that exact part (the retainer)! I found a bunch of parts on Gun Parts Numrich. I am also going to order that threaded muzzle cover that mine is missing! I also need an outer butt plate, but they are currently out of stock, but it's so nice to know that there is a place I can go to for parts! I am very excited about my rifle and getting the parts needed (a little at a time) to get it in better shape! And I ain't givin up on the ammo either! Love your videos!

Good review @Readiness Review aka "Mr Hand". You and I have purchased many of the same surplus recently bugs & all. Your expectations & observations are on par with mine but your reaction is more upbeat. My "Hand Select" was in similar, has a crack in the forearm near the bayonet and thin one in the wrist. It soured me along with the beat down M57 I got from them - I haven't been back. I should have pushed for a Hand Select fee return.

Man the RTI semi autos are a whole different animal! ITs one thing if your bolt action is really dirty and a little rusty but all those delicate small parts on the gas operated rifles need a little bit more care. ITs really a shame they didnt store them properly although being so dry and landlocked in ethiopia rally helped these poor rifles

Had an employee at Classic admit he didn't even take my rifle out of the thick plastic to inspect it when he did my "hand select" on an SKS that showed up rusted to hell with actual sand inside it. When I broke it down there was wet sand between all the metal and wood. The bolt was totally rusted on a "hand select" rifle listed as "VG" condition and they still made me pay to ship it back. I have 3 of the milsurp Chinese SKS rifles so I know they are generally pretty rough, but this was waaaay worse. The listing even said 'this is the best batch we have ever seen of these rifles'
I've had more good than bad experiences with Classic, but that really made me mad and tells me how much their hand select fee is worth. I miss Southernohiogun, they were legit with their condition listings and their hand select really did mean something.

I think if possible to get one of rti's rifles as soon as you see additional ones added. I did that with a mas 49/56 and got the equivalent of a hand select without specifying it. I think they leave the cruddier ones for last.
