I can understand hina but toko was important she had her genocide jack deal genocide jack was important in the last class trial and she was a main character in the despair girls game byakuya had his deal in the second game and he is the head of the togami kopperrration. and kyoko and makoto need no explanation
I love Hagakure! He's such a cool comic relief character and he's always in a good mood and he's kind to everyone. He really made me laugh while playing, and when I found out that he was a character that people didn't like, I was really shocked. I totally agree with the part where you say that Asahina was much less useful than Yasuhiro, I like Asahina and still I never saw her do anything important or act smart, however people say Yasuhiro is stupid but they don't say the same from Asahina.
I don't even know why I clicked on this. I don't need a reason to why he's the best. I absolutely ADORE him. I love him so much, and his goofiness, and his personality, and just everything about him is extraordinary to me. I don't simp for him AT ALL, but I just squeak every time he pops on my screen. If he was a real person, I'd do anything to at least just give him a hug. Of course, I also adore other characters, like Sakura. I'm pretty sure my opinion isn't popular, but I think Sakura is gorgeous. I would've done anything to save her if she was real. Kiyotaka is amazing too. He's so educated and wants everything in order, that I just love him. I also wanted to hug him and never let go because I felt so devastated when he started crying over of Mondo's death. I overly love all of the characters, but if I had to make a tier list, Yasuhiro would be on top automatically.
Honestly, pretty much all of the characters in Danganronpa are pretty well-done and interesting in my opinion, and everyone has their place. Even if I do wish that some of them were written a bit differently. Seeing so much thought and care devoted to one of the franchise's most neglected characters will always make me smile, so I really enjoyed your analysis. Sorry I'm so late to the party . . .

i don't have an issue with his actual personality or anything about him as a character, i only really have an issue with that he's just kinda there in the plot, if he had a bigger role i'm sure that'd fix alot of people's issues with him.

ok this is gonna be a long list but why he didnt need to die was because the first two chapters involved breaking the night rule and he didnt break it and sayaka didnt send him the letter 3rd chapter he was dumb yes but the dumbness saved him as being used as decoy instead of being killed and there is kyoko and makoto to prove his innocence chapter 4 sakura suicided so there was nothing to do about that and chapter 5 he had alibi

i really don’t understand why everyone hates hagakure so much. he has proven to be useful on several accounts. not only that, but his personality is lovable. yes he is stupid, yes he is not the most important on a plot standpoint, but there are several other characters in anime or such with almost the same personality, and everyone loves them? aoi was (arguably) the most important character in the trial for sakura’s murder, but besides that, we honestly don’t get much from her. people are just mad that he survived instead of their favorite characters. personally, my favorite character in danganronpa 1 is mondo, but i’m not mad that he died. i’m not mad hagakure survived instead of him. every character had their own individual purpose i’d say, no matter how big or small it was, and hagakure’s was probably the best. he just made me smile. hagakure was a light hearted step back for me, and i loved his free-time events. he’s amusing, entertaining and overall a well written character. i never have or will dislike him, and i’m very glad he made it to the end. your points are very well chosen.
I fully agree, everyone had their individual purposes, I could never imagine someone else surviving other from the original six survivors and I can't imagine any other blackened than the three ones.

@@レゴシ-r4f Yea I wouldn't go so far as saying he didn't do anything wrong. He clearly made his fair share of mistakes but I don't really think that's a bad thing. To me Yasuhiro was a constant reminder that these guys were stuck in a killing game. He was always paranoid and his fear came out when he struck Sakura on the head. In a way he's like the Sayaka that actually survived and didn't end up murdering someone out of fear.

Yasuhiro was the only character I cared about surviving in DR1, I was so happy when he survived lol, he's honestly the most relatable character in the game, like I would totally act just like him if I was there, he and Kazuichi are my favorite just because they're funny, and because they're both underrated, they both contributed a lot to the game, and they get way too much hate.
Imagine if his predicted it was 100% of the time and during the class trail makoto looks at yasuhiro and says "just do it!" while hiro be sitting there like "brah no-"

Also to the people who get mad because of Sakura, imagine this: You were kidnapped, you have watched 7 of your friends die from murder/execution, one of them trying to frame you. You would probably have some trust issues right? Next you find out someone was working for you kidnapper, then they ask you to meet them, to you knowledge, alone. In all fairness people will only know Hiro survived until they finish the game so I don't think it makes sense to tell them not to play the game. But I do agree that it is stupid if people hate survivors just because their favourite characters didn''t survive. I mean if they think the survivors didn't contribute to making the game better then sure hate on the survivors but I really do think Kodaka picked the best possible survivors in the first game to make the later chapters as interesting as possible. I liked him from the moment I saw him. He's dumb, he's funny, he's sweet and he has a really nice aura going on around him. He's the comic relief character, and I appreciate him immensely. People forget how horrific this game actually is. I mean, they're literally forced to kill their own friends?? It's so important to have a few laid back conversations and situations even in the middle of a class trial because there are always so many things to take in and explore. I'm really glad we had him. Also I think people kinda forget the really deep lessons he taught us right before they escaped. He gave us some really emotional and smart life lessons then. Kinda sad people don't really wait a second to appreciate him.

Thank you. He is literally my favorite character in the entire franchise. And the whole Aoi stuff in chapter 4 reaaaally pissed me off, and no one else in the community seemed to be affected by it, while they bash yasuhiro for being a “dumb” character.
Yeahhhh! I like Asahina but she went too far with her "justice". It surprised me that she was willing to kill everybody. I can see how she could be emotionally persuaded to incriminate Toko and Byakuya (who made terrible comments about Sakura). Still, she was completely aware that she would kill Kyoko, Makoto, and Hiro. The first two didn't do anything wrong, and Hiro was reasonably afraid of Sakura (since she could kill anyone without an issue). I wished the writers made her bow completely in front of her friends and wail in apologies.
@@cristinasandoval8541 I think all the stress of the situation just finally broke Hina when she decided to do that. She was already struggling to hold on as early as the end of the second trial (when she went and found Alter Ego, it was because she was pretty much having an anxiety attack and was starting to doubt herself that if she kept thinking the way she was she may end up going to murder herself). Losing Sakura just the straw that finally broke the camel's back. If anything, I think what she did is very human in a crazy situation like that.

sometimes he makes the trials funnier, and plus he did nothing wrong, sure he doesn't get everything right but still who does? because there's a lot of plot twists in this game
He made some mistakes, such as harming Sakura, trying to frame toko, and well, calling Sakura an ogre- Although that's exactly why I love him. Not because he 'rude' to Sakura, but because of how realistic he was. He hurt Sakura out of fear because he was afraid she would kill him. And I mean, if he actually did kill Sakura, just like all the other culprits (obviously not absolutely all) would you not try and blame someone else to keep yourself from being executed?

I liked Hiro for the most part but then the one special event where they peeped on the girls taking a bath together made me sorta uncomfortable cause he's like 21 trust me i dont like makoto and Hifumi for this either

I personally dislike hagakure but I'm excited for this video since there is always a room for a new opinion ❤ Edit: Ok, so I disagree with some things altough this definitely changed my opinion about hagakure. He's a good comedic relief character so he needed to be stupid. So I wouldn't brag about his intelligence. Altough I knew this before, this was a pleasant reminder. With the hitting Sakura part I would not agree with Toko doing the same since we all know it was different in her case and she couldn't even control herself. Altough I agree with Hina not having the blame which was unfair. Hagakure was just defending himself since he thought he's going to get murdered and was left in shock when thinking he actually killed Sakura. Hina literally tried to kill everybody because she thought they disrespected her friend. Moving on, the part that shocked me the most was how full of empathy hagakure actually was. He was always the one to comfort somebody when in need. This one changed my opinion about him a lot so thank you. I feel like i like him a bit more now and I quite agree he's a bit underrated.
No need to read this cuz it's hella long, but: I was wondering if Hagakure should be the survivor and I think yes, even if there were some characters with wasted potential. He's a pretty quirky and fun character with a lot of scene glow-ups to the anime. So I thought after the killing game, he will get many good shots of screentime opportunities for the killing game aftermath. But oh boy was I wrong. HE HAD 2 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME, MAYBE NOT EVEN THAT. And two thirds of it was just him running. I'm very disappointed. They literally wasted a character like that. But anyway I would just love to give you some credit if you are ok with it. I'm planning to make a video on my other account on some underrated danganronpan characters and this video helped a lot so thanks once again.
I actually don't like her, not that she is useless but she gives a vibe that she was written in such a hurry that they just put a default sporty girl personality, made her boobs big and there you have it a loved charachter. And I prefer Yasuhiro's type of fan service over Aoi, but again anybody can prove me wrong as my argument is her being basic and rushed.

I love Yasuhiro! He is absolutely my favorite character! Not only does he provide good content as the comic relief but he's also a very supportive guy in general. He helped Taka out and tried to comfort him in a time of need, he really does want to help people, but he also gets scared easily and makes wild accusations throughout the game because he's worried for his life. Which is another reason I love him, he is one of the more flawed characters. He's not perfect but that's what makes him a good character and a good person. Also, thing I'm upset about, everyone loves Taka a lot, and they like him because of his relationship with Mondo. One thing people talk about all the time is how Mondo was his first friend ever because of his lonely childhood. But then when I bring up Yasuhiro people hate on him, like he doesn't have some similar elements in his childhood to Taka's, some of the exact same ones you guys love about Taka. Like how both of them didn't have many friends growing up, their familys struggled financially (though for very different reasons) and it was shown in the way they talk about their family that honestly only one parent was mostly present in their lives. (Takaki Ishimaru and Hiroko Hagakure) And bringing the friendship thing back up, when in his last fte he tells Makoto he has no friends and he's the only one he trusts. "I listen to everyone else's problems all day, right? But who do *I* have to talk to? Friends? Nope. I mean I litteraly have zero friends... This is the first time I've felt like there was someone to talk to, could share my problems with." So then he tells him about some of his problems because he believes Makoto is a friend, but once he tells him about his issues Makoto gets upset with him and suggests that he should sell his OOPArts. If you went through his other fte you would know, though they are fake, he really cares about his OOPArts collection and says "No! No no no! No freakin' way! That collection is all I have in life!" So even in the game nobody likes him. He honestly deserves better treatment in the fandom and in canon.
Also, this might be just projecting here but I do think that with the whole give me your money thing and all the sell your organs stuff is kinda how his humor works. He likes to say odd or outlandish things but he also does believe in things others would consider odd as well so people misinterpret what he is and isn't joking about. Which might be one of many reasons why he has no friends. Also, since not much is revealed about him in his fte or dialogue much most of my ideas of him are based on throwaway lines and tiny little info we get. So in my own hc (head cannon) I think Yasuhiro's dad was just the worst, and when he set the house on fire with his cigarette (again, it's a tiny bit of throwaway dialogue) he used that as a chance to run away and abandoned Hiro and his mom. Making them believe he died in the fire but they could never find the body. Which also leads me to believe hiro might be scared of fire but does this thing where something horribly traumatic happens to you and your response is just "that's crazy but also totally a normal thing that everyone deals with" so when he sees fire and gets noticeably uncomfortable he's just like "yep, the normal amount of fear towards fire, nausea is a common side effect of seeing fire, haha". (Low key Udg spoilers) I also hc he has asthma because of his mom's smoking habit before and after his birth, plus psychological stress while pregnant can cause asthma, and considering his mom was 14 when she gave birth to him (when she was 36 he was 22, 36-22=14) we can assume she was under quite a lot of psychological stress. Again though, these are all just headcanons so these aren't exactly cannon but I like coming up with these ideas, especially about characters I really like.
I totally agree with the friend thing. Taka and Yasuhiro are very similar in that regard but everyone loves Taka because he actually forms a bond with Mondo and everyone liked that. With Yasuhiro no one wants to be his friend from the get go. None of the other students want to talk to him and because Yasuhiro had no friends he doesn't really know how to talk to people as friends which is why his free time isnt what you'd expect. Thankfully though, it seems like he's friends with the other survivors by the end even if they're not super close. Also I understand what you mean by the whole money thing is how his humour works. Whenever I picture Yasuhiro in my head, all I see is him just robbing a bank and running away like crazy. So yea his backstory is sad but to be honest I just like him cause he's the funniest character in the series
Yasuhiro has always been my favorite and always will. He's so bizarre and brings a "funny" aspect to the game. Also the fact that he has failed highschool so many times is hilarious to me. I kinda like that he's dumb because it's just... idk I guess because it makes him nicer and even funnier.
Yasuhiro even lead the team after ishimaru died. If he died the rest of the team won't have a leader, why? Byakuya, who would trust this dude? Kyoko, she's better on her own Asahina, not a leader material Sakura, is literally the spy Toko, i don't have to say anything about her Naegi, no one is gonna listen to puny boi naegi Yasuhiro, is the only normal guy who is pretty tall and has a loud voice, a 7/10 leader material
3:51 This is a very late comment but Toko displays her ultimate talent during the fifth chapter when the cast is trying to decipher whether the body is truly Mukuro’s. She uses her literary knowledge to explain about Fenrir being a wolf which Makoto may have already known but being reaffirmed I think shows Toko’s use of her talent within the game.
Honestly I like all characters in the first game except for like, Celestia, Junko & maybe Mukuro (I didn't really see this girl as her own character, so I dunno what she actually is like)
What sucks is that, I think why Yasuhiro didn’t have a lot of screen time in Danganronpa 3 Future Arc is because of his unpopularity and I’m pretty sure he could have a lot of potential in the anime which was instead used on any of the other characters.

3:56 Actually, we don’t see her talent used, but you can tell she’s a REALLY fast swimmer. (UDG spoiler included.) In UDG in Yuta’s execution, you can see he sure do be go REALLY fast. Yuta claims Asahina is like way faster than him, she’s faster than michael phelps. Literally.
Never played UGD so I'm not gonna read the spoiler but I don't doubt she's a good swimmer. She's the ultimate swimmer so her swimming must be some next level speed. In the context of the video though, people always talk about how they like character's with useful talents in the killing game but most characters don't really use their talents to help with the situation in the killing game. That's why I think it's weird when people bring up Yasuhiro's talent as a reason why they dislike him. I also think more character's talents should be used in the killing game. For example when Leon used his talent for the first murder and when Chihiro used his talent to help the group escape even after he died. (Chihiro's a legend.)
Tbh, Hiro is one of my comfort characters because he's so funny and dumb that it's just kinda cute. I was surprised and kinda mad when I found out other people didn't want him to live.
In my option Yasuhiro is *extremely* similar to Souda. Souda is like the Yasuhiro 2.0 if you want to say and I feel like they contribute in their own way.
ultimate clairvoyant is low key ultimate analytical prowess (oboviously analytical prowess is A WAY better than clairvoyant even tho they are pretty similar)
honestly i started to like him in the beginning of chap. 3, when taka was depressed over mondo's death. hiro repeatedly tried to cheer him up. he also tried to lead the group and keep everyone together.
This actually changed my mind. I still don't terribly like him all that much, but this video did a lot to improve my opinion on Yasuhiro; most of your points seem pretty well supported!
I think it sucks that no one acknowledges that Hagakure is actually pretty nice too. He tries to be friends with everyone. He is the only one to try and make Ishimaru feel better when he's grieving. Everyone else ignores him. And yeah, he doesn't always do the most morally upright things, and he can be selfish, but people just _love_ Togami and he's an irredeemable jerk, whereas Hagakure is a normal, well-meaning guy with a lot of shortcomings who will ultimately end up doing the right thing when it comes down to it. When he thinks he's the culprit, he half heartedly covers it up and then near immediately confesses at the slightest bit of pressure. Nearly every blackened is willing to get all the others killed to save themselves, but you can't tell me honestly that you think Hagakure would have actually been able to go through with it when he gives up that easily.
Yasuhiro is such an easy-going character that he is so likable. I didn't find him at all hateable at all. The only thing that bothers me is the Free Time Events. His are so weird in comparison to the others because I really was expecting him to explain his hate for the occult or how he discovers his clairvoyant ability. I think he suffered from bad writing in those sections. I mean, his character in the main game doesn't resonate as cold-hearted or insanely selfish. The one character I see asking for organs is Celeste!

Omg i super agree with you, but my list was like this: 3 - NDRV3 2 - SDR2 1- DRTHH But after hearing you talking about SDR2, i'm really questioning my choices. Mainly, i bounded more with some characters and things that happened in SDR2, maybe it's just nostalgia, because i saw a lot of potential in NDRv3 too (even tho i really dislike the ending and how it was handled) But about danganronpa 1, i only watched the anime first, so my experience wasn't that good until i played it, and then i couldn't deny, i really like how the characters are realistic, and thoughtful, and i love how it feels real, and as you said, they really cared about the details like discovering and trying to get out, it was an important part of it, but in the others, in my opinion, even tho in v3, they tried to escape many times. It really lacked exploration, it was more for the plot and explanations that they were so different than the first danganronpa... Also, the best designs (even tho less colorful ;-;) are in Danganronpa 1, change my mind!!!

I liked her too. She wasn't one of my favorites but I feel like she should've been one of the survivors so we could see her character arc. Also if she did survive I think she might've ended up being one my favourites from DR2
DerpyHiro yes I think the same too. It would be like Fuyuhiko! At first he was very mean to others but after a traumatizing thing happened to him (peko’s death) he realized he should be a better person. That could also apply to Hiyoko with Mahiru’s death being the traumatic event

V3 Spoilers- Himiko/Gonta Himiko is a way worse survivor character than Hiro. Just the absolute worst. Literally useless talent, hideous character design, clogs up dialogue and plot talking about "magic". I don't understand why they made her face so unlikable as well. And then trying to push her as V3s standard Loli that we needed every game after 1 was always so gross. Worst character, would have preferred Gonta survived. And I absolutely love Hiro, literally the only difference between him and Aoi are the big mommy milkers. I think it's obvious why useless female characters get away with being trash. Because they weren't created to be useful or to evolve in anyway. They are primarily anime waifu eye candy for the player base.
It's the way he was stupid that caused him to survive, I believe. People would have no reason to kill him. And in fact, we'd want him to stay alive cuz... he is not a threat in trials, to be honest. xD
Yasuhiro isn't necessarily a bad character and I actually dislike Hifumi and Teruteru and Hiyoko more than him (I don't dislike Hifumi but I do hate Teruteru and Hiyoko)
Honestly I dislike him because his humor doesn't appeal to me plus I hate how his free Time evants make him look like a dick This also my opinion but it is't fair to compare Hina with hiro they have very difrent goals in the game one is comic relieve and maiby I looked to deep into it but Hina was to show how even the most happy and care free people can be filled with despair if you tug the right strings
oh i forgot to mention him calling her "Ogre". In the beginning of the game they said that "Ogre" was a nickname that people used for her. So it's not just Yasuhiro calling her that; its hundreds and thousands of people in the Danganronpa universe. I guess I can see how some may get triggered by that but I never saw any sign of Sakura getting hurt or offended by that so I didn't really think that was a problem. And I completely forgot the anime went but I'll take your word about Asahina saving Makoto. I do remember liking her more in the anime.

Yea he's still my favorite as well. It seems like a lot of people really don't like his comedy which is a crucial part of his character so a lot of people end up seeing him as someone with no purpose.
Lets be honest, people would have disliked Hifume just as much if not more than Yasuhiro if he lived and Yasuhiro had died. Yes, Yasuhiro is a joke character, and no he doesn't do anything that has a lasting effect on the story, or get any character development in it. But I blame that on the writers rather than Yasuhiro himself. They choose him to be one of the six survivors out of a cast of 16, but couldn't come up with anything better for him than being a joke. Compare that to Taka, a character who started off just as one note and was intended to die, but still got way more attention and development anyway. IMO they were fully capable of doing more with Yasuhiro but just choose not to. Maybe the entire point is that he doesn't change that much, but any failures to change, develop, or be relevant to the story is on the writers IMO.
For me I like Yasuhiro a lot more just because I think he has a better dynamic with the other members of the surviving group. I honestly believe that characters don't need to develop as long as they provide fun conversations with other members of the cast. Of course what people consider as "fun" is subjective. As for Hifumi, I think he's already disliked more than Yasuhiro as it is.

Honestly aoi characters development felt a bit rushed she's this kind sports girl who eats donuts and is kind towards others tell me If I'm wrong but her character development felt rushed a little I don't hate aoi I just felt like she needed more character development in my opinion .I don't hate yasahiro or aoi honestly I just find it stupid to hate on fictional characters like that :/ in my opinion.
I actually like Aoi's arc. The thing is Aoi's changes throughout the game aren't positive but I like it that way. She starts off as a bright cheery girl who seems like she can do nothing wrong but we see her change from the beginning of chapter 3 to the end of chapter 4. In the beginning of chapter 3, we see that she can't handle being trapped inside the school anymore. This makes sense especially after going through the second trial where Taka was constantly screaming in pain after Mondo's death. In chapter 3, we see her slowly lose her mind. She's the most hurt by Hifumi and Taka's death and then in the 3rd trial, she's much more angsty and quick to point the finger at others. All this build up from chapter 3, leads into chapter 4 where her classmates are being uncooperative and her best friend is being treated like a villain by many of them. We see how she can't handle anyone's bs anymore. She slaps Byakuya, Toko almost decides to get in a dangerous fight with her and Yasuhiro's in a state of paranoia where he just keeps running away from Sakura. So when Aoi finally sees Sakura dead and sees the fake suicide note, all her fear and anger ends up turning into hatred for her classmates. Even though she drags Makoto and Kyoko into it, it's understandable because she's gone insane. (Spoilers for DR2 in this paragraph) Once it's revealed that Monokuma forged the suicide note and once everyone decides to work together, a lot Aoi's fears are resolved. She still holds onto some of her fears and anger. This is why she still suspects her classmates of being killers and even potential masterminds. She also holds onto Sakura's last message of working together with all her classmates. In a way her "positive character development" is a lot like Fuyuhiko's where she's able to reflect over her actions in one night after the trial. Similarily to Fuyuhiko, she has feelings of regret after chapter 4 such as the moment where she knows she can't take the knife found by the students. Again, Aoi was initially a nice character. She just temporarily went insane due to the killing game. I quite like the direction her character took and it didn't feel like they rushed her character. The only reason I actually went off on Aoi in this vid was because if people base their opinions of characters by their usefulness, then Aoi should be one of the least popular characters in the series. I think in the video, that point didn't come across too well and it made me seem like an Aoi hater when in reality I actually think she's one of my favorite characters.

I love Hagakure! He's such a cool comic relief character and he's always in a good mood and he's kind to everyone. He really made me laugh while playing, and when I found out that he was a character that people didn't like, I was really shocked. I totally agree with the part where you say that Asahina was much less useful than Yasuhiro, I like Asahina and still I never saw her do anything important or act smart, however people say Yasuhiro is stupid but they don't say the same from Asahina.
I don't even know why I clicked on this. I don't need a reason to why he's the best. I absolutely ADORE him. I love him so much, and his goofiness, and his personality, and just everything about him is extraordinary to me. I don't simp for him AT ALL, but I just squeak every time he pops on my screen. If he was a real person, I'd do anything to at least just give him a hug. Of course, I also adore other characters, like Sakura. I'm pretty sure my opinion isn't popular, but I think Sakura is gorgeous. I would've done anything to save her if she was real. Kiyotaka is amazing too. He's so educated and wants everything in order, that I just love him. I also wanted to hug him and never let go because I felt so devastated when he started crying over of Mondo's death. I overly love all of the characters, but if I had to make a tier list, Yasuhiro would be on top automatically.
Honestly, pretty much all of the characters in Danganronpa are pretty well-done and interesting in my opinion, and everyone has their place. Even if I do wish that some of them were written a bit differently. Seeing so much thought and care devoted to one of the franchise's most neglected characters will always make me smile, so I really enjoyed your analysis. Sorry I'm so late to the party . . .

i really don’t understand why everyone hates hagakure so much. he has proven to be useful on several accounts. not only that, but his personality is lovable. yes he is stupid, yes he is not the most important on a plot standpoint, but there are several other characters in anime or such with almost the same personality, and everyone loves them? aoi was (arguably) the most important character in the trial for sakura’s murder, but besides that, we honestly don’t get much from her. people are just mad that he survived instead of their favorite characters. personally, my favorite character in danganronpa 1 is mondo, but i’m not mad that he died. i’m not mad hagakure survived instead of him. every character had their own individual purpose i’d say, no matter how big or small it was, and hagakure’s was probably the best. he just made me smile. hagakure was a light hearted step back for me, and i loved his free-time events. he’s amusing, entertaining and overall a well written character. i never have or will dislike him, and i’m very glad he made it to the end. your points are very well chosen.

To me Yasuhiro was a constant reminder that these guys were stuck in a killing game. He was always paranoid and his fear came out when he struck Sakura on the head. In a way he's like the Sayaka that actually survived and didn't end up murdering someone out of fear.

In all fairness people will only know Hiro survived until they finish the game so I don't think it makes sense to tell them not to play the game. But I do agree that it is stupid if people hate survivors just because their favourite characters didn''t survive. I mean if they think the survivors didn't contribute to making the game better then sure hate on the survivors but I really do think Kodaka picked the best possible survivors in the first game to make the later chapters as interesting as possible. I liked him from the moment I saw him. He's dumb, he's funny, he's sweet and he has a really nice aura going on around him. He's the comic relief character, and I appreciate him immensely. People forget how horrific this game actually is. I mean, they're literally forced to kill their own friends?? It's so important to have a few laid back conversations and situations even in the middle of a class trial because there are always so many things to take in and explore. I'm really glad we had him.
Also I think people kinda forget the really deep lessons he taught us right before they escaped. He gave us some really emotional and smart life lessons then. Kinda sad people don't really wait a second to appreciate him.

Yeahhhh! I like Asahina but she went too far with her "justice". It surprised me that she was willing to kill everybody. I can see how she could be emotionally persuaded to incriminate Toko and Byakuya (who made terrible comments about Sakura). Still, she was completely aware that she would kill Kyoko, Makoto, and Hiro. The first two didn't do anything wrong, and Hiro was reasonably afraid of Sakura (since she could kill anyone without an issue).
I wished the writers made her bow completely in front of her friends and wail in apologies.

She was already struggling to hold on as early as the end of the second trial (when she went and found Alter Ego, it was because she was pretty much having an anxiety attack and was starting to doubt herself that if she kept thinking the way she was she may end up going to murder herself). Losing Sakura just the straw that finally broke the camel's back. If anything, I think what she did is very human in a crazy situation like that.

Edit: Ok, so I disagree with some things altough this definitely changed my opinion about hagakure. He's a good comedic relief character so he needed to be stupid. So I wouldn't brag about his intelligence. Altough I knew this before, this was a pleasant reminder. With the hitting Sakura part I would not agree with Toko doing the same since we all know it was different in her case and she couldn't even control herself. Altough I agree with Hina not having the blame which was unfair. Hagakure was just defending himself since he thought he's going to get murdered and was left in shock when thinking he actually killed Sakura. Hina literally tried to kill everybody because she thought they disrespected her friend. Moving on, the part that shocked me the most was how full of empathy hagakure actually was. He was always the one to comfort somebody when in need. This one changed my opinion about him a lot so thank you. I feel like i like him a bit more now and I quite agree he's a bit underrated.
No need to read this cuz it's hella long, but:
I was wondering if Hagakure should be the survivor and I think yes, even if there were some characters with wasted potential. He's a pretty quirky and fun character with a lot of scene glow-ups to the anime. So I thought after the killing game, he will get many good shots of screentime opportunities for the killing game aftermath. But oh boy was I wrong. HE HAD 2 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME, MAYBE NOT EVEN THAT. And two thirds of it was just him running. I'm very disappointed. They literally wasted a character like that. But anyway I would just love to give you some credit if you are ok with it. I'm planning to make a video on my other account on some underrated danganronpan characters and this video helped a lot so thanks once again.

I actually don't like her, not that she is useless but she gives a vibe that she was written in such a hurry that they just put a default sporty girl personality, made her boobs big and there you have it a loved charachter. I love Yasuhiro! He is absolutely my favorite character! Not only does he provide good content as the comic relief but he's also a very supportive guy in general. He helped Taka out and tried to comfort him in a time of need, he really does want to help people, but he also gets scared easily and makes wild accusations throughout the game because he's worried for his life. Which is another reason I love him, he is one of the more flawed characters. He's not perfect but that's what makes him a good character and a good person.
Also, thing I'm upset about, everyone loves Taka a lot, and they like him because of his relationship with Mondo. One thing people talk about all the time is how Mondo was his first friend ever because of his lonely childhood. But then when I bring up Yasuhiro people hate on him, like he doesn't have some similar elements in his childhood to Taka's, some of the exact same ones you guys love about Taka. Like how both of them didn't have many friends growing up, their familys struggled financially (though for very different reasons) and it was shown in the way they talk about their family that honestly only one parent was mostly present in their lives. (Takaki Ishimaru and Hiroko Hagakure)
And bringing the friendship thing back up, when in his last fte he tells Makoto he has no friends and he's the only one he trusts. "I listen to everyone else's problems all day, right? But who do *I* have to talk to? Friends? Nope. I mean I litteraly have zero friends... This is the first time I've felt like there was someone to talk to, could share my problems with." So then he tells him about some of his problems because he believes Makoto is a friend, but once he tells him about his issues Makoto gets upset with him and suggests that he should sell his OOPArts. If you went through his other fte you would know, though they are fake, he really cares about his OOPArts collection and says "No! No no no! No freakin' way! That collection is all I have in life!" So even in the game nobody likes him. He honestly deserves better treatment in the fandom and in canon.
Also, this might be just projecting here but I do think that with the whole give me your money thing and all the sell your organs stuff is kinda how his humor works. He likes to say odd or outlandish things but he also does believe in things others would consider odd as well so people misinterpret what he is and isn't joking about. Which might be one of many reasons why he has no friends.
Also, since not much is revealed about him in his fte or dialogue much most of my ideas of him are based on throwaway lines and tiny little info we get. So in my own hc (head cannon) I think Yasuhiro's dad was just the worst, and when he set the house on fire with his cigarette (again, it's a tiny bit of throwaway dialogue) he used that as a chance to run away and abandoned Hiro and his mom. Making them believe he died in the fire but they could never find the body. Which also leads me to believe hiro might be scared of fire but does this thing where something horribly traumatic happens to you and your response is just "that's crazy but also totally a normal thing that everyone deals with" so when he sees fire and gets noticeably uncomfortable he's just like "yep, the normal amount of fear towards fire, nausea is a common side effect of seeing fire, haha".

I also hc he has asthma because of his mom's smoking habit before and after his birth, plus psychological stress while pregnant can cause asthma, and considering his mom was 14 when she gave birth to him (when she was 36 he was 22, 36-22=14) we can assume she was under quite a lot of psychological stress. Again though, these are all just headcanons so these aren't exactly cannon but I like coming up with these ideas, especially about characters I really like.
I totally agree with the friend thing. Taka and Yasuhiro are very similar in that regard but everyone loves Taka because he actually forms a bond with Mondo and everyone liked that. With Yasuhiro no one wants to be his friend from the get go. None of the other students want to talk to him and because Yasuhiro had no friends he doesn't really know how to talk to people as friends which is why his free time isnt what you'd expect. Thankfully though, it seems like he's friends with the other survivors by the end even if they're not super close. Also I understand what you mean by the whole money thing is how his humour works. Whenever I picture Yasuhiro in my head, all I see is him just robbing a bank and running away like crazy. So yea his backstory is sad but to be honest I just like him cause he's the funniest character in the series

This is a very late comment but Toko displays her ultimate talent during the fifth chapter when the cast is trying to decipher whether the body is truly Mukuro’s. She uses her literary knowledge to explain about Fenrir being a wolf which Makoto may have already known but being reaffirmed I think shows Toko’s use of her talent within the game.

In UDG in Yuta’s execution, you can see he sure do be go REALLY fast. Yuta claims Asahina is like way faster than him, she’s faster than michael phelps. Literally.
Never played UGD so I'm not gonna read the spoiler but I don't doubt she's a good swimmer. She's the ultimate swimmer so her swimming must be some next level speed. In the context of the video though, people always talk about how they like character's with useful talents in the killing game but most characters don't really use their talents to help with the situation in the killing game. That's why I think it's weird when people bring up Yasuhiro's talent as a reason why they dislike him. I also think more character's talents should be used in the killing game. For example when Leon used his talent for the first murder and when Chihiro used his talent to help the group escape even after he died. (Chihiro's a legend.)

honestly i started to like him in the beginning of chap. 3, when taka was depressed over mondo's death. hiro repeatedly tried to cheer him up. he also tried to lead the group and keep everyone together.
This actually changed my mind. I still don't terribly like him all that much, but this video did a lot to improve my opinion on Yasuhiro; most of your points seem pretty well supported!
I think it sucks that no one acknowledges that Hagakure is actually pretty nice too. He tries to be friends with everyone. He is the only one to try and make Ishimaru feel better when he's grieving. Everyone else ignores him.
And yeah, he doesn't always do the most morally upright things, and he can be selfish, but people just _love_ Togami and he's an irredeemable jerk, whereas Hagakure is a normal, well-meaning guy with a lot of shortcomings who will ultimately end up doing the right thing when it comes down to it.
When he thinks he's the culprit, he half heartedly covers it up and then near immediately confesses at the slightest bit of pressure. Nearly every blackened is willing to get all the others killed to save themselves, but you can't tell me honestly that you think Hagakure would have actually been able to go through with it when he gives up that easily.
You’re damn right he’s underrated. Such an unexpected survivor, I love his blind luck in that sense. Not every character needs to be competent
Yasuhiro is such an easy-going character that he is so likable. I didn't find him at all hateable at all. The only thing that bothers me is the Free Time Events. His are so weird in comparison to the others because I really was expecting him to explain his hate for the occult or how he discovers his clairvoyant ability. I think he suffered from bad writing in those sections. I mean, his character in the main game doesn't resonate as cold-hearted or insanely selfish. The one character I see asking for organs is Celeste!

I think Yasuhiro is sort of underrated. He is a *bit* boring, but he’s pretty funny. Kiyotaka and Hagakure are both really underrated in my opinion-

But after hearing you talking about SDR2, i'm really questioning my choices. Mainly, i bounded more with some characters and things that happened in SDR2, maybe it's just nostalgia, because i saw a lot of potential in NDRv3 too (even tho i really dislike the ending and how it was handled)
But about danganronpa 1, i only watched the anime first, so my experience wasn't that good until i played it, and then i couldn't deny, i really like how the characters are realistic, and thoughtful, and i love how it feels real, and as you said, they really cared about the details like discovering and trying to get out, it was an important part of it, but in the others, in my opinion, even tho in v3, they tried to escape many times. It really lacked exploration, it was more for the plot and explanations that they were so different than the first danganronpa...
Also, the best designs (even tho less colorful ;-;) are in Danganronpa 1, change my mind!!!

I actually really like Hiyoko since she really was trying towards the end of her life after Mahiru’s death to try and be a better person. Even if it was subtle, I believe she wasn’t given a fair chance
I liked her too. She wasn't one of my favorites but I feel like she should've been one of the survivors so we could see her character arc. Also if she did survive I think she might've ended up being one my favourites from DR2
DerpyHiro yes I think the same too. It would be like Fuyuhiko! At first he was very mean to others but after a traumatizing thing happened to him (peko’s death) he realized he should be a better person. That could also apply to Hiyoko with Mahiru’s death being the traumatic event

V3 Spoilers- Himiko/Gonta
Himiko is a way worse survivor character than Hiro. Just the absolute worst. Literally useless talent, hideous character design, clogs up dialogue and plot talking about "magic". I don't understand why they made her face so unlikable as well. And then trying to push her as V3s standard Loli that we needed every game after 1 was always so gross. Worst character, would have preferred Gonta survived. And I absolutely love Hiro, literally the only difference between him and Aoi are the big mommy milkers. I think it's obvious why useless female characters get away with being trash. Because they weren't created to be useful or to evolve in anyway. They are primarily anime waifu eye candy for the player base.
It's the way he was stupid that caused him to survive, I believe. People would have no reason to kill him. And in fact, we'd want him to stay alive cuz... he is not a threat in trials, to be honest. xD
Yasuhiro isn't necessarily a bad character and I actually dislike Hifumi and Teruteru and Hiyoko more than him (I don't dislike Hifumi but I do hate Teruteru and Hiyoko)
Honestly I dislike him because his humor doesn't appeal to me plus I hate how his free Time evants make him look like a dick
This also my opinion but it is't fair to compare Hina with hiro they have very difrent goals in the game one is comic relieve and maiby I looked to deep into it but Hina was to show how even the most happy and care free people can be filled with despair if you tug the right strings

I'm fine with hagakure BUT to call Sakura 'ogre' Oof but in general he's somewhat a gag in dr3
oh i forgot to mention him calling her "Ogre". In the beginning of the game they said that "Ogre" was a nickname that people used for her. So it's not just Yasuhiro calling her that; its hundreds and thousands of people in the Danganronpa universe. I guess I can see how some may get triggered by that but I never saw any sign of Sakura getting hurt or offended by that so I didn't really think that was a problem. And I completely forgot the anime went but I'll take your word about Asahina saving Makoto. I do remember liking her more in the anime.

Yea he's still my favorite as well. It seems like a lot of people really don't like his comedy which is a crucial part of his character so a lot of people end up seeing him as someone with no purpose.

Lets be honest, people would have disliked Hifume just as much if not more than Yasuhiro if he lived and Yasuhiro had died. Yes, Yasuhiro is a joke character, and no he doesn't do anything that has a lasting effect on the story, or get any character development in it. But I blame that on the writers rather than Yasuhiro himself. They choose him to be one of the six survivors out of a cast of 16, but couldn't come up with anything better for him than being a joke. Compare that to Taka, a character who started off just as one note and was intended to die, but still got way more attention and development anyway. IMO they were fully capable of doing more with Yasuhiro but just choose not to. Maybe the entire point is that he doesn't change that much, but any failures to change, develop, or be relevant to the story is on the writers IMO.
For me I like Yasuhiro a lot more just because I think he has a better dynamic with the other members of the surviving group. I honestly believe that characters don't need to develop as long as they provide fun conversations with other members of the cast. Of course what people consider as "fun" is subjective. As for Hifumi, I think he's already disliked more than Yasuhiro as it is.

Honestly aoi characters development felt a bit rushed she's this kind sports girl who eats donuts and is kind towards others tell me If I'm wrong but her character development felt rushed a little I don't hate aoi I just felt like she needed more character development in my opinion .I don't hate yasahiro or aoi honestly I just find it stupid to hate on fictional characters like that :/ in my opinion.
I actually like Aoi's arc. The thing is Aoi's changes throughout the game aren't positive but I like it that way. She starts off as a bright cheery girl who seems like she can do nothing wrong but we see her change from the beginning of chapter 3 to the end of chapter 4.
In the beginning of chapter 3, we see that she can't handle being trapped inside the school anymore. This makes sense especially after going through the second trial where Taka was constantly screaming in pain after Mondo's death. In chapter 3, we see her slowly lose her mind. She's the most hurt by Hifumi and Taka's death and then in the 3rd trial, she's much more angsty and quick to point the finger at others. All this build up from chapter 3, leads into chapter 4 where her classmates are being uncooperative and her best friend is being treated like a villain by many of them.
We see how she can't handle anyone's bs anymore. She slaps Byakuya, Toko almost decides to get in a dangerous fight with her and Yasuhiro's in a state of paranoia where he just keeps running away from Sakura. So when Aoi finally sees Sakura dead and sees the fake suicide note, all her fear and anger ends up turning into hatred for her classmates. Even though she drags Makoto and Kyoko into it, it's understandable because she's gone insane.
(Spoilers for DR2 in this paragraph)
Once it's revealed that Monokuma forged the suicide note and once everyone decides to work together, a lot Aoi's fears are resolved. She still holds onto some of her fears and anger. This is why she still suspects her classmates of being killers and even potential masterminds. She also holds onto Sakura's last message of working together with all her classmates. In a way her "positive character development" is a lot like Fuyuhiko's where she's able to reflect over her actions in one night after the trial. Similarily to Fuyuhiko, she has feelings of regret after chapter 4 such as the moment where she knows she can't take the knife found by the students. Again, Aoi was initially a nice character. She just temporarily went insane due to the killing game. I quite like the direction her character took and it didn't feel like they rushed her character.
The only reason I actually went off on Aoi in this vid was because if people base their opinions of characters by their usefulness, then Aoi should be one of the least popular characters in the series. I think in the video, that point didn't come across too well and it made me seem like an Aoi hater when in reality I actually think she's one of my favorite characters.
