Getae have been my favourite Rome 2 faction for a long time; they have a huge range of underrated units. Spear warriors have excellent armour and great bonus vs large for such a cheap unit, Spear horsemen are possibly the cheapest heavy melee cav in the game, Dacian heavy bows are very proficient at winning skirmish fights, Bow horsemen have high missile damage, Noble swords can chew through hordes of enemy infantry... the list goes on. Love seeing the Getae take down Rome! P.S: Any Rome 2 replays not on the Grassy Barf-lands would be greatly appreciated :)
Considering the falx was the reason behind one of the only modifications to the standard issued Roman armor, yes apt indeed. Didn't realize it until you pointed it out. Good catch.
carthage is bad when compaired to barbs or rome.... most greeks are just even shittier in this game not saying you can't win with them but you do need to be alot better then your opponent
@@bobitw which is ironic because in reality the carthiginians hired spartan mercs to help train for the romans.. The carthiginians won those sets of battles.
yeah especially with mods , my favourite all time mod for TW game is europa barbarorum made for rome 1 ... briliant and enjoyable even 10 + years later ...
Oh, yeah. EB has an incredible amount of historical content and polish. This is a excellent game and I'm glad that 20+ years later people are still egknowlaging it's brilliance.
So Falxmen are something like ancient kamikazees xD. Sacrifice them(if commanded correctly) to pick off 50 Evocati off the charge? Hell sure i want that
I know heir and many people do not appreciate Rome, but why is almost every video where a player uses Rome, does that play have to be a noob with the cunning and tactics of a sardine? Rome is a damn good faction. Caesar would have these limp wristed bastards scourged and crucified!
Most rome players bring 3 baleric 3 syrian principe legion spams or just evocati spams then use no tactics other than herrdurr evocati destroys herdurr its so annoying in quickbattles playing as massilia or other lower teir factions to be last second counter picked by rome or steppe
That guy Johan or whatever his name is (he keeps changes nicknames) plays random battles in the lobby, trying to prove that axes are bad, heavy spears are bad, falxes and cheap spears are the only way to go. He loses 2-3 times then gets mad and deletes you from friends. Then he finally finds opponent who he can defeat with his army and claims it as a proof of his way of composing armies and that is how we end up with videos where Getae defeat Rome and Suebi counters nomads. I would rather watch replays of from Use it and Lose it or/and Domination tournaments that are going on ATM.
i sended uili replays to heir like 2-3 times but heir just ignored and started spamming that guy's retarded replays,so i told sol to cast finals ,btw there was a replay in which sol lost with tylis vs sparta in the tourney to 1 of my clanmates but sadly that replay will never be casted because heir prefer to cast noob legend's replays and not real replays) (i hosted use it lose it tournament btw, trolley was too busy to do it)
ye both players played shit in this don't get me wrong they know standard meta but don't seem to have brain to think on how to react to an opponent moves or faction this is real noob battle that just knows meta. pretty painfull to watch. plz upload vids from many players instead of sticking to 1shitty player you surely get more then enough vids send to you, i'm pretty damn sure
The skirmishers were Romes downfall. Against a faction which wont prolly be bringing heavy archers normal leves would've been better. More cavalry might've been better. atleast to absorb and sideways intercept the charges.
It's to prevent outflanking, which is a bigger problem in infantry vs infantry. Also, there's usually missile support and/or a second line of better units to handle frontal cav charges.
Total war charges are shit and dont work like real life. Even if 2 lines got charged by 50, they would still stop the entire 50 rank deep unit in its tracks.
even with the shitty mechanics that stops you right away if you got these units with high charge and charge a widespread unit of anything else that whole unit is gonna kill the enitre other unit with the charge. so instead of just losing 1 rank you lose the enitre unit:P
The tactics i see people use in Rome 2 are so strange to me. The formations are stretched in a thin line and there isn't a ton of hammer and anvil tactics. When the units move around in that thin line they always end up grazing another enemy unit and taking unwanted casualties. If i was facing a thin line i would punch straight through with a deeper formation, reform and rear charge. I might be missing something though, because i haven't purchased this game.
Frey Jepson in Rome 2, if you spread your line thin, it'l do more damage on the charge than a compact formation would, simply because of the bad game design. So you'd find if you charged a thin line with a compact unit that you'd be surrounded and killed pretty quickly. It's annoying since it makes all the battles look really stupid, especially with factions like Rome who's entire military doctrine was historically on hinged compact formations. But it's the optimal way to play in multiplayer unfortunately. You don't have to do it in campaign though, since the AI doesn't realise that noodle lines are optimal and will usually deploy normally meaning you can too. Campaign battles are much more varied and you can use traditional hammer and anvil tactics more often.
Hey, thanks +Hugh Mungus. I was initially very excited about Rome 2, but then I heard it was drastically different from it's predecessor or any of the other total war games. I also hear Ancient Empires mod for Attila is actually a better total war game for this time period.
Frey Jepson Well I'd say at this point, Rome 2 as been mega-patched to the point where its worth playing, But to begin with it was a complete mess. But yeah you could go for the Ancient empires mod as well if you wanted. It is fully finished yet though faction-wise.
Thanks, Hugh! Do you happen to know if the Attila DLCs are required for Ancient Empires to work? I tried researching online, but could not find an answer. The mod being in the stage its in, I'm not suprised.
Like Rome 2 after all the patching but those battles are still way too quick this one 5 minutes from point of contact to victory and campaign not much better.
well if the 2 good players meet with balanced armies and skills the battle could take more then 20 minutes ( i played a lot of close battles myself , in the end it was only unit vs unit last stand ) anyway , if you want the prolonged battles try 2v2 or 3v3 i find it even more fun recently compared to 1v1 ... but it depends on teammates and opponents as always of course ...
Unmodded Rome 2 is utter shit. Units constantly rushing about the place as if they're trying to catch the bus, and opponents annihilating each other in a couple of minutes. Total arcade crap. :-(
Agreed, maybe the battles last longer if it's 2 fairly equal human players with similar build armies but in single player the battles after first contact is made are still just a couple of minutes long. As for mods I have to add a lot to get a good experience and a lot of the mods are better quality than what CA provided even after 17 attempts at patching.
This really pisses me off about ROME 2, they were so incredibly terrified of making Rome too strong that through deliberate design weaknesses and infinite nerfing they turned it into the weakest faction instead. Not viable in multiplayer since everyone can simply charge to death your elite legions with naked barbarians and even in campaign it's a pain in the ass. In a game titled ROME that is pretty damn stupid. Why oh why is a singleplayer game balanced entirely around the tiny multiplayer aspect of it is bloody beyond me.
hannibal's legacy But is it actually? When's the last time you picked Rome in a multiplayer battle, when's the last time you saw Rome in multiplayer battle, when's the last time you saw them win one. Roman regular infantry units will lose any 1v1 they're put into against a comparably priced unit and many cheaper ones simply because of the charge combined to the spaghetti meta and slower movement speed, to make up for which they have no skirmishers and weak cavalry. So OP, eh. In multiplayer you can maybe, MAYBE win if you force that blob somewhere, which no one is stupid enough to get into these days. And even then it's a big maybe because you will lose everywhere else on the map. And in singleplayer, you will win sure, because AI is dumb, but like I said it's a pain in the ass. Heck, I dare you to go through heir's channel and find a video of a 1v1 battle from the past 2 years that Rome won. Among about the 5 battles with Rome involved that will be there. Surely it must be because everyone aggreed they're so strong that they don't play them huh? The only ocassion rome may appear strong is when you have newer to average players just wandering around the battlefield not making proper use of units, faction strenghts and abilities, but for anyone who knows what they're doing Rome is just trash.
rome is an overworked faction in the game and altho it was nerfed a bit its still OP the the absolute best but surely in top 5 most prob say even top 3
attila MP was dead until charlemagne came out : that was fun and still is , but rome 2 MP is better ... i also own warhammer with all the DLCs but i still play rome 2 MP more often ...

Gatae jutt Jatt cast
More Rome two yes!!!
How historically apt, Rome getting chopped apart by a falx.
Considering the falx was the reason behind one of the only modifications to the standard issued Roman armor, yes apt indeed. Didn't realize it until you pointed it out. Good catch.
5:19 heir salty that carthage is crap. its ok heir i feel ur pain. makes me want to vomit too
carthage isnt bad lol. They are better than most greeks and can counter easterners, you just cant play them as you play OP barbs
carthage is bad when compaired to barbs or rome.... most greeks are just even shittier in this game not saying you can't win with them but you do need to be alot better then your opponent
@@bobitw which is ironic because in reality the carthiginians hired spartan mercs to help train for the romans.. The carthiginians won those sets of battles.
I like that your advertising the first Rome total war in the description. That is my favorite game of all time.
yeah especially with mods , my favourite all time mod for TW game is europa barbarorum made for rome 1 ...

How is that??
Please continue the non-Suebi action 😬
Thank you!
Odrysian Kingdom Thracian Noble banzai charge best strategy 10/10. Works every time sometimes.
Moldy Apple odrysian kingdom and epirus is both my favorite factions. and cimmeria
is there a replay where the yellow player loses?
So Falxmen are something like ancient kamikazees xD. Sacrifice them(if commanded correctly) to pick off 50 Evocati off the charge? Hell sure i want that
Are you going to do more heir testing labs?
200,000 subscribers is getting close! Will you make a especial video?
How do I send you replays?
yes Getae (Dacian)
I know heir and many people do not appreciate Rome, but why is almost every video where a player uses Rome, does that play have to be a noob with the cunning and tactics of a sardine? Rome is a damn good faction. Caesar would have these limp wristed bastards scourged and crucified!

Vlad Dodd You are a savage.
Johan is a good player

Shogun 2
Evocati cohort seem to be Rocky Balboa of Rome 2
until 6:37 i thought he was saying sucky equite
after warhammer i always think how much a general can do, like imagine karl on deathclaw in this. would rip shit up!
wait since when did heir have rome 1 music on rome 2 videos?
like foreverrrr bruh... He had it while doing the Carthage DEI campaign and that was ages agooo.
Lee Robinson guess I just forgot
Good video.
Less than 100 views, so fresh ;D
I thought Getae was pronounced "Geet" am i wrong?
Craig Harborne yep
I have downloaded Rome 2 emperor edition(from pirate bay) and i want to play online but i cant of course.Any ideas how can i do it???
Buy the game.
Alex PAO Yea i got an amazing suggestion... Buy the game
no
Alex PAO People like you dont deserve to play online.
you can get it dirt cheap on g2a.
heir, can i send u a replay?
Spaghetti spaghetti
Appropriate enough for a game centered around an Italian civilization.
Knees weak, arms heavy
whats the reasoning with having 1-2 ranks only? wouldnt anything just charge trough it and kill the whole unit in the charge?XD
It's to prevent outflanking, which is a bigger problem in infantry vs infantry. Also, there's usually missile support and/or a second line of better units to handle frontal cav charges.
Total war charges are shit and dont work like real life. Even if 2 lines got charged by 50, they would still stop the entire 50 rank deep unit in its tracks.
medieval 2 is sooo much better.both games can be described with 1 word.Med 2-Glorius Rome 2-Spaghetti
even with the shitty mechanics that stops you right away if you got these units with high charge and charge a widespread unit of anything else that whole unit is gonna kill the enitre other unit with the charge. so instead of just losing 1 rank you lose the enitre unit:P
i usually chose a army thats solid keep it tight and have goof flank forces with like cav and javalines
That doesn't make any sense realistically. You shouldn't be able to charge the enemy through your own line.
realistic and rome 2 total war in the same sentence.
The tactics i see people use in Rome 2 are so strange to me. The formations are stretched in a thin line and there isn't a ton of hammer and anvil tactics. i luv you heir
YEAH!! ROME 2
1080p club
Fucking spaghetti lines... It's cheese of Rome 2 TW
Ivan Buncic i dont use spaghetti lines with my hoplites or spears

dark globe most 1v1 ;10-15,18mins
And in SP they're still over in the blink of an eye.

like few days ago
rome is an overworked faction in the game and altho it was nerfed a bit its still OP the the absolute best but surely in top 5 most prob say even top 3
Nah, I agree with the OP. Too many Gallic factions have all kinds of supermen units that chew up Roman cohorts as if they were girlscouts.
Forgive a Total War noob, why Rome II and not Attila? You're still making videos on the older game.
ThisAlbino cos rome 2 mp is better
CrankyOsprey4 in every way
Spaghetti.
I guess it's because he like to have some variations and because quite a few of his viewers like these older games.
attila MP was dead until charlemagne came out : that was fun and still is , but rome 2 MP is better ...
i also own warhammer with all the DLCs but i still play rome 2 MP more often ...
Glory to Ukraine . Glory to heroes
no hate but.... roman player played really bad
