This is the finisher I always searched for...Many plugins come out/go out..But this right here is an instant classic, in it's own class! This is pure magic on any sound!
Alright after using this thing for 2 months, I can safely say that this was a MASSIVE game changer in all of my productions! Suddenly I was doing the "big system/nightclub" sound test (as I work as a club DJ), and that saturation really shows, especially on those huge speakers. Everything was just glued together so perfectly, I wanted to tear up lol. All of my old tracks went from sounding thin and hollow, to full and colorful. I don't like linking to self-promo, but if you are curious look up "The Expedition" by Profondo Delle Tenebre. I love Waves in general, but this one was a total VIP (Very Important Plugin) for me.
For all new producers that make the same mistake as we all did by buying a lot of Waves during sales: Your plugins will not be updated to work on new systems or macOs. If the version you buy now still works, great, but if it needs an update, you will have to pay a yearly fee to Waves. This fee is a percentage of your plugin price. Not the sale price, but the full amount. They will usually still work after an update, but a fair warning. Waves has a lot of people push this plugin to shake off their dusty image, and ofcourse the quality is great, but do some research to be sure. Im not saying its a bad thing, and there is a case to be made for developers that have to be paid to update the plugins, but know that. To not have ridiculous sale prices and free updates is for me personally a better model, where I dont feel like my plugins/projects are taken hostage
If I'm not mistaken, they sometimes offer a free time limited update. I could be wrong though. I bought this latest plugin and I rarely do because I hate it when they stop working,
They actually offer 2 year equivalent... I purchased one during Waves Central v.12.. now after a year upgraded free to v.13. Yes they are not perpetual so you have to get your mind ready that you are buying a plugin that is good for 5 years my estimate, it takes me 5 years or more to upgrade to new laptop or system. My advise is to wait for big discounts happening in a year (many) I would say it is during Black Friday-Cyber Monday. If you are in a good profitable music business, IMHO it's okay.. just like charging it to a maintenance cost. If you are like me that is just home use/self study music production as hobby, IMHO I just use those limited time as my motivation to learn music, because a $30 plugin for 3 years (36mo.) is like I am paying $0.833 per month. Just have to bear in mind that at the end of the day this is all still business as usual.. like buying clothes that useable only for some time. With exception to pair of Levi's 501 that takes me 10 years before buying new one lol, If not my wife begged to change it, I will keep it for 15yrs! But those jeans they lasted more than my washing machine! Yeah, in today's digital age time, really that's just how it is.. buying something, whether gadgets or software that lasts only for 2-5 years or so, then obsolete.
The bass relief, over sampling and saturation meter are nice features. However, there are a lot of good saturation plugins on the market. As for the sound quality, how does this one compare to others?
It is very natural sounding and not at all 'fizzy'. It is also very versatile in that you can add a little 'something' to the source to give it some character and slight warmth to really driving it hard (again without it sounding digital and fizzy) and everything in-between. Like you say, there are lots of plug-ins that do this kind of thing but this one in particular actually does 'clean' up the source. I know that sounds weird but when used very subtlety, you can add a kind of expansion that works really well in the mids! You can then, on the other hand drive it and get a lovely 70's kind of saturation (you know the sound, the one we all want from this type of plug-in) and that tends to start midway. There is still a fair way you can push it past the pleasing 'tape' saturation and you can start exploding synths, guitars or single instruments and it stays together very well, clean with very pleasing harmonics. Being able to select the two different circuits is also great as you can use the it on several sources in the same mix and make them distinctive. Even when pushed aggressively, there are no audible artefacts or waywardness and it sounds robust. It is one of the best, if not the best type of these plugins that I have used. You are kind of tempted to use it on everything when you first start using it and that is always the sign of a good plugin! Hope that helps and I would absolutely recommend it as once you have it, you really won't need another plugin to achieve this kind of effect.
decapitator and tilljanuary the free radiator plugin are awesome! give me better results. but then again i use in my my last insert a plugin where i can control the harmonic distorbtion, if you dont have that bb tubes can give you some good results if you trow your music online ;)

I am running 10.12. Can someone explain why Waves of other software companies don't make their plugins with a little more backward compatibility?
Just bought at $24.99 but cannot activate. It appears that it will not work in Cubase 11 Pro, even though I use other V14 Waves Plugins OK! So, as 'Horseofthedog' warns, they sell cheap, then it costs more to update, either my Cubase (which is not that old!), or wait until they catch up and allow me to use it in CB 11 Pro? When I purchased this, all my Waves Plugins were updated to V14 for "free" but seem to be working OK....
I haven't used it yet, but it seems like they copied "The Oven", a little, with the abstract names of the saturation. I did get the Little Tube and Little Radiator freebies lately, as well as the Black Box giveaway earlier this year and Audio Acustica's Smash the Pumpkin freebie at Halloween. AA also just released a Luca P saturation plug in last week that I'm really liking. It has an oversampling option, as well. All that being said, I still think Softube's emulation of the Overstayer Mas is the best saturator I've come across. But it is pricey! Thanks for the video. I'll bet trying these in conjunction with that new version of Waves Rack (whatever it's called!) could help you really target the saturation in really precise and creative ways!
