  • In this video series I am building a small A-frame cabin based on Deek Diedricksen's Transforming Cabin design. In part 3 I build a loft, bedframe, hutch, door, and finally finish the book pages floor!

    You did a good job buddy. I was smiling while watching you scratch your head trying to figure out how to open the see-through side door. I've watched dozens of videos like this and that's where everybody goes "hmmm," lol. A rope and pully system works pretty good. Carry on sir.

    At 25:39 you had me falling down laughing -- and then the "cozy with spiders" remark had me in stitches. Glad you made it out safely. Thank you. I enjoyed this video. Your idea for the lifting wall sounds like the 'Viking' tent or stall. Looking forward to seeing what you do in the end.

    Use hydraulic shocks that's used on vans SUVs etc to help with the lifting of the wall

    I love watching your videos! Just a thought about the stairs to the loft ,instead of the beautiful dresser/Table you built ,you could have made storage cubes that also can be used as stairs going up to the loft, and then for the empty wall across from the bed ,make a drop down table hanging from the wall ,and then for extra storage build drawers to fit under the bed you built.Just an idea,, Beautiful cabin!! Thank you for sharing your build!

      Those are good ideas! If I do another one, I might incorporate some of those features. I got a collapsible ladder that seems to work ok for now..

    enjoyed your video, and i'm inspired to tackle a project with my teenage sons. We own some raw land and this would be a great alternative to a tent.

    I would make this a-frame a lot longer for a bathroom and bedroom and the tip out would be a built in living room with 2 sofa futons for sleeping and sitting in the day time! The main walk-in would be the kitchen.

    Use a fruitarian mattress Cut bed frame in half use hinges to fold up ; could be doubled as a counter top or seating

    Great build ..Maybe A pully hung up in A tree and A counter weight to help you lift the door/wall.

    I enjoyed watching your build. You made a beautiful piece of furniture. Why didn’t you varnish the bed to match? You know you could have made a wooden shirt bench bed that expands into a larger bed at nighttime. You would have had to use accordion type cushions like they use in RVs. It would have saved space. I wonder if those a-frames can go slightly larger to accommodate more room such as for a small kitchen and composting toilet.

    I may be crazy but I would put a metal bar on the window end of the awning that goes to the ridge line and then add weight lifting weights to it until it became a counter balance to the awning. You could add weights until it opened with little effort. It would all have to be on the window end as the porch roof and the door would get in the way on the other end.

    • @philbrown5722
      @philbrown5722  3 роки тому +1

      Wow. Interesting idea. I actually like that a lot better than the scaffold/pulley systems I've seen people build. At any rate, as you will see in the second bonus video, I already installed some gas struts that seem to be working pretty well so far.

    • @KeeperofTheMountain
      @KeeperofTheMountain 3 роки тому

      @@philbrown5722 As the gas rams age, you can add the counterbalance and increase the weight as needed.

    Hi Phil, enjoyed the videos and your well thought out design. Would it be possible to make a cabin like this bigger and still have some of the same features?

    • @philbrown5722
      @philbrown5722  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, probably. I've seen some other videos with similar designs that are bigger. Some have the swing out wall, but it's only a part of one wall (if you built it out any bigger it would be way too heavy.) I built mine is pretty much spot on to Deek Diedricksen's popular design.

    Shouldn't the door bracing go on the inside so that rain and snow doesn't get trapped and rot out your door?

    • @philbrown5722
      @philbrown5722  3 роки тому +1

      Well, I imagined that the little awning would protect the door from rain (turns out not so much.) I liked the look of the bracing on the outside..

I’ve also built a little A frame but I built it on a trailer. Check it out if you have time, I have a build series on my channel. Cheers
