Can't wait to start building my own home. Your videos are inspirational. To everyone else: just keep in mind, a foundation carrys loads and spreads out that load enough, so the ground underneath can hold your building completely stable. These piers are probably big enough for this site, but make sure you do a little homework for your site and soil/ground types and size your foundation to your calcs, and to the climate of your land like frost lines, water run off and drainage etc. Design your own foundation with all the considerations required for your site.
Not saying what he has here isn't adeqaute, but something to consider... Your foundation also holds your building to the ground and interacts with loads in every direction. A good way to think about your foundation is that it's only as strong as the amount of bar and mud that is in it, and your building is only as strong as your foundation. I poured a foundation for myself this year for a small building that has 18 YDS and and near a metric ton of bar in it. That'd be almost 1600 40LB bags of concrete. This is per nominal engineering specs. For would-be builders, start with a solid foundation.
I've been building professionally for 10+ years and am a licensed contractor. I'm impressed. Some of these DIY cabin builds turn out like hot garbage burritos designed by a three year old Chihuahua. This was not one of those. I could nitpick a few things here and there, but you did a lot of important things right (flashed the hell out of doors and windows, decent roof details, etc). You'll have this cabin for a long time. Oh and I definitely noticed your carpentry skills improving throughout the build. You looked a bit tentative with the skill saw at first, but by the end you looked like an old salt.
Hi, was great to watch this whole build from start to finish, great job. Genuine question as I have no building experience but would love to build a tiny house, what is the reason for building the frame for the walls and then cutting them to fit windows, can you build the frame with the windows already frame out? Also, how come you didn’t attach the frame to the concrete until much later in the build? Would love hear your answers as I’m genuinely interested 🏡

For me the ideas in this book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxT9ExVpR-3A-9rpRqx8vzXKZ3BMMTg_KH were a starting point for building three different sheds. Truini gives ideas that allow an individual to extrapolate into the design and building of his or her own shed. I especially enjoyed the treatment of building trusses and cedar dutch doors.
The height of the cabin you could almost have a floating ceiling with a bed. Imaging waking up in the morning with the view you created from having those large windows. The structure looked incredible at night with the low voltage lights. So many options, the build is excellent. Great work!

Nice video. I think it would be a great idea for you to add a "lessons learned" in regards to small and big errors and so on. I would have put flashing on the corners before the cedar went up. Also pre-paint most everything, then install. Even the plywood on the roof. Way easier. Fixed windows are fine if that's a design element you wish to have - I would have figured some opening or natural ventilation capability as well. Nice work.

Not to post to be a troll but to help, a few mistakes on this (but I guess we all make them). Mainly on water an thermal…. Probably if it’s not lived in every day then not the end of the world. It's a great job.Buildings in American and European countries with few earthquakes have few pillars and are very simple, beautiful and stylish. In Japan, where there are many earthquakes, strong seismic strength is required, so I think the foundation and framework are very complicated.I want to make a small cottage by myself, but I am concerned about the strength, so I can only make small ones. I'm really looking forward to it.
Several areas of the US are subject to strong earthquakes. The entire west coast. Near the Mississippi river, the The New Madrid Fault runs 150 miles from Arkansas into Missouri and Illinois.
That was AMAZING! As at least one other person mentioned, I have been a building professional for many years. You should be SO PROUD. I have seen supposed Pro’s do FAR less quality work. They should do things like this in school. The whole class project for the year is to build a small house. Yano, actually learn something honest, practical and at the end you get a great sense of pride, satisfaction and independence when you look at something you actually helped build with your hands, your hard work and your determination. I realised that when I left school and University there wasn't much I could actually "do". I could sit an exam and ace it, but I couldn't really "do" anything. At least 50% of the time spent in school is a waste and could be put to better use. Instead we're content with churning out coddled minds that cant "do" anything.
You then missed your Major. I majored in Electrical Engineering and I love my job, I feel like the university has made me feel like a more complete person. I have a lot more confidence in my field of work, and I loved the every minute of it. I imagine if I had went for medicine I'd be the same way as you.

It may not have been included in the condensed version, but you may want to install 1/8" square hardware cloth over your vapor barrier under the cabin. With just the insulation and plastic vapor barrier, you're inviting varmints to either live up there or rip it down and carry it away to their own nests.
@@danervin2530 The wood will last, but not the insulation and vapor barrier after small animals and rodents have chewed through the insulation, nested in it, urinated in it, or just ripped it down and carried it away to their own nests. The hardware cloth stapled over the bottom of the floor joists protect the insulation and keeps them out of it.
Looking forward to the cost breakdown video. Will you also share your design (if it was your own) or where you found the design? I'd love to make something like this.
I can remember being upset when I would'nt get a weekly video of the build (selfish I know). I also know content creation can be a lot of work. But this honestly made me feel happy to watch. I sure am going to miss watching the cabin.

beautiful cabin - beautiful location - love the editing and straightforward approach. maybe some day..... Also it's cool how it never rained even once.
Great looking cabin. Only a few things crossed my mind: - the big windows don’t open. I could imagine a lot of issues with condensation - you’re solely relying on A/C when you could have an oven - a lot of space is unused by the high ceilings
23:35 - I've watched this video like 3 or 4 times now over the last year and this is the first time I noticed the Tri-Built caulk in the window! I work for Beacon, very cool to see our private label at work and even better to see it in this video!
Looks incredible. Exterior scheme is on point. But the fact that you can't open any of those large windows is a huge downside. Frank Lloyd Wright would tell you to allow nature in as well.

Congratulations on making your dream a reality! Like you, we've just finished building a cabin of our own. Mind you, we didn't build it ourselves. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching videos like this! Good job!!!!
I always thought one should put the paper side of the insulation (the vapor barrier) towards the heated side of the wall/floor/ceiling so no moisture gets trapped in the insulation causing rot. But, outstanding job for DIY with just the help of a couple of friends/family members!
That is house wrap. It doesn't act as a vapor barrier it acts as a protectant against large amounts of moisture. It breaths. He should have put a vapor barrier on the inside, but apparently, he didn't.
Wow! You did an Amazing job! So impressed with this build….looks lovely….looks like it’s built to last too. I want a cabin in the countryside…looks cosy. It’s so difficult to find people with your skills that care about what they are building. Thankyou for this video 👍❤️
in 1989 l built and lived in a 12x20 cabin on land I bought when I got out of the Navy. after 2 years I was a hermit, only left the woods when I needed various things. one day I noticed the gas prices and was amazed at how much it was. Everything was expenses. when I got home I had a realization that I was way out of touch with society. it was good and bad. I was very health but then I couldn't carry a conversation with a kid let alone an adult. Today that cabin is just a memory.some fool burned it down. so there's good and bad comes from isolation. it was fun though 😛😜😜
So a few questions...do you just float the foundation off of those concrete pillars in concrete? You put rebar in but not anchor off of it? Why did you hand pound nails when you had a compressor? Why do you nail your uprights before the top of the frame on the one side? Why do you elevate your base supports by an inch 5 minutes in? Why did you insolate the roof the way you did? Why did you not insolate the floor? Why does your drill always sound like it is dying? I only got half way in and was way too confused with your process
I use metal-clad wiring when building out in the country. Many buildings out in rural areas have burned down because of mice chewing on the same Romex wiring he has used in this building. Sure the breaker box will cut the current at the first short but all it takes is one spark to start a mouse nest on fire. Good luck though. Fun build.
I got you Ken! For the size of this project maybe they could have used conduit on the whole thing like they did for the ceiling box but inside the framing?
Wow. Watching this was therapeutic. I now feel more confident in myself and am ready for the day. The fact that this guy was wearing yeezys the whole time was just icing on the cake. Bravo sir
The production quality of this video just skyrocketed after the music hit. Impressive build, I wonder how he got the power to the cabin, I was kinda hoping it would have solar power but in a forest that's a challenge unless you have an open space nearby to put your panels.
In one of the angles at the end there appears to be another building. I think the creative camera angles made this look like it was in the middle of the woods. No less impressive though!
@@warrenmcgrail5752 I noticed the building in the background of his other videos aswell. Still an impressive build, and a beautiful location though. I believe he was going to dig a power line to the cabin, but for this video he used a battery powered generator.
I never thought to spend 28 min on a youtube video, till this one.. damn! was amazing, the ambient and tools sound was so satisfying. You got skills bro !!
I am impressed by genuine homesteaders who use old-world techniques and tools, buy raw land for pennies, build in a way that requires no zoning or permits (because of sq. footage and distance from property lines, etc), and source local materials to construct something that is actually in the middle of nowhere. Not people with six-figure budgets who buy high end lumber, have $60,000 in tools with them, and their barn or home is only a few yards away. This is more like a "cool factor" bachelor apartment than it is a legit cabin.
Выглядит красиво. Как проект красивого лесного домика - да! Но это для благополучной идеальной реальности, в которой нет преступности, лесных пожаров и ураганов:) А так мне вспомнилась сказка "Три поросенка" :))
"SWEET" I know you received a great deal of satisfaction in this project. I did a similar, but slightly smaller Skillion style in 2020. My wife reclaimed our garage and I now have a place to work on wood projects. I'm thinking that you wish you had the Bakers Scaffolding from day one. They are so helpful.
Well, didn't even have to watch more than 3 minutes and I already know that it isn't a 5 star build. You should NEVER lay wood straight on concrete - it will rot in just a few years (because of water rising from the ground). You can chemicaly protect the wood in any way you want but it's just not gonna last very long. You always have to put some kind of foil or asphalt layer between the two materials. And that means this cabin will slowly rot and degrade from the bottom where change of the beams is most difficult... The rest of the build may be well done, but that's a mistake no builder should overlook and in worse case - make.
I also turned a horse trailer into a mobile bar - ua-cam.com/video/Lw_tdVQJ8So/v-deo.html
thx

@@cricketmonday1469 Thanks for the correction! English isn't my native language, so I make these mistakes sometimes.
@@lazar2175 ha ha. You made me laugh. I expected you to send me off. You're OK ...for a moment I thought you were rubbing you Electrical Engineering degree off. Congrats on that and thanks, by the way!
It may not have been included in the condensed version, but you may want to install 1/8" square hardware cloth over your vapor barrier under the cabin. With just the insulation and plastic vapor barrier, you're inviting varmints to either live up there or rip it down and carry it away to their own nests.
All wood in base and frame without antiseptic treatment. There is no waterproofing between the wooden base and the concrete columns.
I thought I was the only one who noticed 😅
@@andreymatveev1107 looked like pressure treated lumber to me
@@casmar3293 I saw a ton of other comments like this. Ideal? Maybe not. Will it last 30 years? Without a doubt.
Seriously wondering where the lumber index was when he did this build... prices have been insane since Covid.
Too much
Judging by the tools he had he probably just cut some trees off his own plot
Dude you probably won’t read this but how inspiring. I’m a carpenter myself and want to do this so bad. I just need land first. Bravo

I can remember being upset when I would'nt get a weekly video of the build (selfish I know). I also know content creation can be a lot of work. But this honestly made me feel happy to watch. I sure am going to miss watching the cabin.
wait 80 years and itll be one of those creepy wood cabins perfectly made for horror movies.
love it!
Hahaha or maybe less!!!
That is so funny! I was thinking the same thing. I was also thinking, "Where will they poop?" Great video and beautiful cabin though!

This man built a cabin in 28 minutes.. that’s insane.
He read Steve Kotler's "The Rise of Superman"
Are you honestly going to just ignore the two breaks he took whilst we watched those ads?! Haha!
Basically by himself

28min is a bit slow. Watch timelapse to save more time ;)
Now here's a man who knows what he's doing. No dangerous shortcuts, no fumbling and bungling. Ignore the amateurs who post videos showing just how much they don't know.

How you managed to build that whole thing in 28 minutes is beyond me. Lol in all seriousness that came out awesome
Great looking cabin. Only a few things crossed my mind:
- the big windows don’t open. I could imagine a lot of issues with condensation
- you’re solely relying on A/C when you could have an oven
- a lot of space is unused by the high ceilings
I was thinking the same.
Where is the second floor?
For someone who claims to have no prior experience, I'd say you did a bang up job
For future reference I highly recommend not taping your horizontal bottom tyvek seams, this is where possible moisture exits.
Absolutely epic. Inspired and motivated me to do my own this year. Thank you for taking the time to show your cabin project. 👍

That or he just really likes the lights lol

2020, the year where the cost to build this cabin is the same as the cost to build an entire house in 2019
Wow! You did an Amazing job! So impressed with this build….looks lovely….looks like it’s built to last too.

Amazing job 🔥👍
in 1989 l built and lived in a 12x20 cabin on land I bought when I got out of the Navy. after 2 years I was a hermit, only left the woods when I needed various things.
one day I noticed the gas prices and was amazed at how much it was.
I began to itch all over watching the the insulation install...
I dont think people appreciate the precision of all ur cuts and how perfect everything is ... good job man!
ua-cam.com/video/PaU_fPudj6s/v-deo.html

Did you not see the mixing of concrete by a garage into a wheel barrow? Do you think he wheel barrowed the concrete a mile into the woods?

Its not agard winning, come on like.
I've watched this 3 times, it's one of my favourite cabin build videos
This is amazing! I'd love to see how you decorated it inside
Dang you sound jealous af 😂👌🏻
Выглядит красиво. Как проект красивого лесного домика - да! Но это для благополучной идеальной реальности, в которой нет преступности, лесных пожаров и ураганов:) А так мне вспомнилась сказка "Три поросенка" :))

I'm a builder and I give you 5 out of 5 stars, bro! Great video, great design but where the hell is the bathroom? Thumbs up and subbed!
Planning on building one soon!
It's all around the cabin lol
Well, didn't even have to watch more than 3 minutes and I already know that it isn't a 5 star build. You should NEVER lay wood straight on concrete - it will rot in just a few years (because of water rising from the ground). You can chemicaly protect the wood in any way you want but it's just not gonna last very long. You always have to put some kind of foil or asphalt layer between the two materials.
And that means this cabin will slowly rot and degrade from the bottom where change of the beams is most difficult...
The rest of the build may be well done, but that's a mistake no builder should overlook and in worse case - make.
😂. Good thinking.
