    Wow might be crazy, but I think you were my professor during my first year at FIT! Seeing this video sent me back, I remember you vividly now having not seen you in almost 7 years. My laptop malfunctioned and I lost all my work from your class and others. I am now a creative director and finally coming back to developing a template of my own to send out to production. Hence me stumbling across this video to see if there were software that would do the sizing math automatically. Wish your youtube was around before I was bleeding money in that place. Crazy how this all came full circle!

      Hi, Raul. So sorry for the delayed response. Yes, the template will work for just about any apparel product. What will change is your information that pertains to your design.

    Hi. I don’t quite understand the tape reference for measurements can you explain in more detail? I’m doing a tech pack for a class and I have never done this before nor do I have an actual garment to measure. So what do I do when I only have sketches and no garments? Thanks for your help.

    • @383design
      @383design  3 роки тому

      Hi, Tommie. You're basically using tape (much like most instructors in draping class will tell you to use soutache) to create your style lines. You can use very thin masking tape or use scotch tape and draw on top of it.
      For the garment, you want to find something that has a similar silhouette. It's not going to be exactly the same, of course, because you are designing something new, but it'll serve as a "template" so you can draw your new design lines on it. If you can't find an actual garment, you can do this on a dress form. You'll just need to take into account that your measurement will be on a nude body so you'll have to adjust for ease.

    Hey, Im a fresh designer. Techsheet is so hard because of the stitch details I should include. Like the yearn details and stitch details. Drawing part and the sample measuring part is fine with me. How do the experienced designers make it. How to expertise TT

    • @383design
      @383design  17 днів тому +1

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Most of my students have problems with the tech pack, but I can guarantee you it does get easier the more you do it! I'm not sure what you mean about the yarn. Unless you're designing sweaters, you really don't need yarn details. For the stitching, that comes with learning and understanding more about construction.
      Know that as a designer (not a technical designer), you're really only responsible for stitch details on the OUTSIDE of the garment. One way to get better with that is to study your own clothes. Take note of the types of stitches manufacturers use on different types of garments. When in doubt, you can usually refer to something in your own closet.
      And if you're unsure about a stitch, check the description for a great reference guide for all types of stitches.

    A tech pack is one of the most important documents a designer has to get a great sample. So it's pretty important to understand what it is and what goes into it. How many of you are familiar with creating tech packs?

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS KNOWLEDGE! once again I find your video useful! :)
    So basically technical flat drawings will be used in a tech pack...
    and a spec sheet is when you're about to send your garments to the factory to produce hundreds more, is that correct?

    • @383design
      @383design  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!
      Yes, technical flat drawings are used in your tech pack, but they may also be used on line sheets (if you have to create those) and fashion CADs. Flats are used on a lot of different documents these days.
      And yes, the spec sheet is included when you are about to send your garments to the factory, but not just to produce in bulk. You'll also need those measurements to make your first sample and to get costing for your garment.

      @@383design thank you! I was wondering if a technical flat drawing and tech pack is the same thing. But basically I figured a tech pack is technical flat drawings with details and measurements. Tell me if I misunderstood.

    • @383design
      @383design  3 роки тому +1

      @@paridoesupcycling Not exactly. A technical flat drawing is a 2 dimensional drawing of your design. Like if you lay your garment flat on a table or the floor, your sketch should look like that.
      A tech pack consists of multiple documents that tells a pattern and samplemaker all the details or your garment and how to make it. It also helps with costing as well. You technical flat is part of a tech pack.
      I have a couple of videos on my channel that explain this in detail if you're interested:

    Thank you for sharing this knowledge! I have a question, I have met several clients of mine (I'm a freelancer) basically they sometimes come to me like in the early stages, they only have designs/sketches, but they don't know which manufacturer they'll use, the sizing & everything. In my knowledge sometimes different manufacturers uses different size chart in the articles of clothing they produce. And when I search on the internet standard size chart (e.g. Tshirt, Hoodies etc) each of them have different sizing (XS-3XL) measurement, like the sleeve length, chest width etc. What should I do in this regard? Oh & also what about the details measurement (Skirt length, pocket width etc), is it the clients who decide the measurement, or should it be from me ?

    • @383design
      @383design  3 роки тому

      The client needs to establish the sizing. I usually tell people to find a brand whose fit they like, get a size run and use that as a starting poing. And as far as the details, really the client should establish that, but many times they'll leave it to you. If that's the case, I would suggest asking them to give you a sample to go by. Then you can tape and draw directly on the garment.
