Wow, so many people hating on Bryce Papenbrook and just from a trailer WTF. I am sick and tired of people saying he's a terrible voice actor when he really isn't. I've heard his voice multiple times and it never sounds bad to me and no I'm not saying it as a Bryce fan boy. I will admit though that while his performance as Kirito in the first season of Sao did need some work but for the most part I thought he did a pretty good job and he improved in the second season, plus the fact that we have Tony Oliver as the ADR directer gives me hope that Bryce will do Shirou justice, and same goes to the rest of the cast.
Learn what lesson? Just from this trailer "You are to be rejoicing, my boy" is such an idiotic, incompetent and tone-deaf translation of one of the most iconic and belived lines in the entire frenchise, I just had to stop the video there because the second hand embarrassment for whoever got paid for that was about to kill me ;)
Multiple things 1. That's a BS reason to hate 2. Since when was this the most iconic and belived line in the anime 😂, I don't even know what he said in Japanese that made it iconic, there are far better quotes in fate @@obinator3486
Voice actors since the original stay night dub: Rin, Illya, Kuzuki, Taiga, and Lancer Voice actors from Zero coming over: Saber, Sakura, Kirei, Gilgamesh, Kiritsugu New voice actors(in the fact that they were not involved in Fate prior): Shirou, Archer, Caster, Assassin, Rider, Shinji, Issei For anyone who is confused with who is who and who is actually new to Fate voice wise.
I was at the panel at AX when they showed this trailer. And I was freaking out so hard about the dub, especially when Kari Wahlgren came out as Saber followed straight up by Crispin Freeman as Kirei. When the Aniplex crew said that they were going to reveal the Special Announcements, I was like "oh please include a Fate dub, oh please include a Fate dub". Oh, and Your Lie in April is getting a dub too. YYYYEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!
***** I don't know. Based on whats coming up though, Ufotable might start leaning towards adapting other things from other franchises, like the Tales Of series.
The cast changes may take some getting used to, but Tony Oliver is a phenomenal director and I have a feeling this will be as good as the Fate Zero dub.
BioZero216 I want to believe this too. But the casting of Bryce and Todd in their roles has me putting on some skepticals. then again everyone said the same of Crispin Freeman as Kirei and look how that turned out.
AutovoltGTS I remember when people were raging over Issei and Akeno voice actors changes in the 3rd season of Highschool DxD, but after a while everyone seemed to be cool about the new voices.
***** yeah that was a real bummer...it's worse once you realized that Scott Freeman didn't just not reprise but he's quit the industry altogether after shit kept getting worse for him in real life. ;_;
Coincidentally tho, issei new voice change in DxD is who I wanted to play shirou, josh grelle, he's great especially as inspector ginoza in pyscho pass
I really wanted Liam O'Brien to voice Archer again... He was just such a perfect fit in the Deen Fate/Stay Night adaptation. On the other hand I am really happy they brought back Crispin Freeman as Kirei Kotomine.
Hey Aniplex. Just dropping a line, saying that I for one loved Bryce's performance in this, and the rest of the cast as well. I'll definitely be buying the English release.
One thing I noticed is that Jessica DiCicco of Adventure Time and Gravity Falls fame is voicing a minor character in this dub....that's pretty surprising.
>that Shirito and Archer I just NOPED the fuck out of here. Nothing against Papenbrook, but he's not Shirou. And Liam O'Brien was already perfect as Archer. Now everytime I watch Fate/stay night, Kirito and Eren will pop up in my mind. That completely kills the atmosphere, at least for me.
Lilrony26 Even if I'm not gonna buy/watch it, that isn't excuse for doing a half-assed job. It's like government policies: even if some of them doesn't affect me, it must be a quality product/service.
Judging a dub by the trailer alone is stupid and close-minded. Watch at least the majority of the dub, them judge it. What you're doing is no different than judging an entire movie by the trailer.
It's funny, back in 2013 at Anime Expo, I went to a Fate/Zero English dub panel where I got to ask a question to the English cast. I asked, "What is your favorite character in Fate/Zero, other than the one you played and why". The answer I got from Tony Oliver, the director, was Lancer. The why, was because he played Lancer in Fate/Stay Night and was biased towards the class. It was funny at the time, but little did we know that 2 years later he would be reprising his role. I bet he was so glad he didn't cast himself a major role in Fate/Zero.
He kinda just switched roles, they didn't get rid of him. He was awesome as Kariya. Anyway, he can't voice 2 different characters in the same franchise with a similar voice. Plus, you aren't really giving Kaiji Tang a chance.
jmcm30 Kaiji Tang's best roles are Tsumugu in Kill la Kill and Kenshiro in the first Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage. If someone goes ATATATATATATATATATATATA, then the pic of yours will explode to smithereens.
BioZero216 If people like you are in charge of the dubbing industry, then it is no wonder the reputation of dubs is where it's at right now. That is NOT how Shirou's name is pronounced, and range DOES matter. Saying something so stupid essentially trivializes all the practice voice actors like Cristina Vee and Liam O' Brien do to voice a variety of characters and sound *natural*. It wasn't right in the original stay night, and it's not right here. You can fanboy and shit all you want, I'm not even saying they need to pronounce it correctly cause fuck it, it's a localization, but don't pull stupid shit out of your ass like she's pronouncing Shirou's name correctly, because she's not. Finally, Mela Lee's vocal quality is nothing like Ueda Kana's. Lee is apparently a lot more higher pitched and nasally. It doesn't have to match Kana, that's not the problem, the problem is that it's not a right fit for the character. Her voice doesn't have much of a sense of duality, which is a huge part of Rin's character. Although Rin does mess up a lot, she is still very confident, well learned, and prepared-- it should command authority, but Lee is trying to emphasize Rin's unreliability too much here, when in that scene, Rin is without hesitation attempting to convince Archer of her resolve to kill Shirou should it come to it. So yeah, she's not even getting the emotion right.
Instead of doing what pretty much everyone in the comments section is doing and dislike Shirou's new VA (which I absolutely agree on all parts), I'm going to mention Lancer. Is it the same Lancer from DEEN? I'm going to guess he'll be bringing back Gay Bulges.
Joe Devaney Well the whole idea behind why she was able to pass as a man was because Avalon was keeping her young for most of her life. So a higher voice kinda made more sense in that regard. Plus it makes for a nice dichotomy to have this person who looks and sounds really small, but is actually one of the most powerful people you'll ever meet. Also it fits more with her character that like Shirou she's supposed to have such youthful determination towards a goal that may be impossible.
People, I just ask you to be open-minded and give the new voices a chance. Change isn't always bad. I understand where you're coming from. A voice can become synonymous with a character after a while, but these are all talented actors. Give them a chance. For me, Liam O'Brien will always be Archer. He's my favorite VA of all time, even. However, Kaiji Tang is an excellent VA and probably the best replacement they could've gotten. Tony Oliver, the director, knew that this series ties in with the canon of FZ, so he made sure that no one voiced a character in FZ beforehand, so he wouldn't cast them as a different character. He changed the original VA's for Shirou and Saber because he thinks the new ones fit better. And let's remember, this man directed the dubs for Fate Zero and Gurren Lagann. We're in more than good hands.
Oh my God...Saber's VA didn't change for once! It's a miracle! Also, Todd Haberkorn is Assassin...I'm not sure how to feel about this... I mean, I love me some Haberkorn, but him as Assassin doesn't seem well matched, at least to me. Oh well, I'm sure he won't disappoint.
AAAAWWW YEAH!! IT HAS COME! **watches the video** Ooooooooohhhh chills down my spine! XD At first I wasn't sure about Bryce being Shirou, but as the trailer went on, I felt like he'll do a good job. All the other voices fit their characters. :D Glad to see some previous dub's (Sentai's version) VAs coming back here -- like Lancer for example.
14megasxlr How nice. I don't hate you either, because I have never met you. _But fix your brain because the world doesn't revolve around you._ Other people have different tastes, and if I don't like what you don't like, I don't care. I understand that everyone has different tastes. But judge me about it and tell me to fix my attitude about something, then prepare to get shit thrown at your face.
CrystalRubyMoon And another person who doesn't hate the voices! It must be Christmas Morning and no one told us! XD High five for the support of the voice actors in this anime! XD
I like Papenbrook. He's one of my favs. I honestly didn't think someone like him would've been taking the role of Shirou in the dub but it doesn't sound as bad as most people think. He voices younger characters who are still teenagers when his voice is much deeper than that so cut the dude some slack!
The hypocrisy among you people is unbelievable. When Lee's Rin is replaced in the Kaleid dub, you all get pissed and demand for her to return. Now that she's back, you bitch about her Rin sounding too high?! Here's the problem with your logic. 1: Watch the UBW movie. She NAILED Rin's character there. 2: This is a simple trailer and proves nothing of the dub's quality. Judging a dub by the trailer is the same as judging a movie by the trailer. Both are petty and stupid. 3: Something is wrong with your ears if you think Lee's Rin is too high but Ueda's isn't. She and Ueda sound almost identical. 4: She heightened her voice to the breaking point as Kid Rin in Zero. She has lowered her voice a bit here. It doesn't sound childish. I've met plenty of teenage girls that sound higher than both Lee and Ueda. 5: Why are you bitching about this now when Lee has voiced Rin for 9 years? That makes no sense at all. Lee's Rin is flawless. She was born for this role. Nothing will convince me otherwise. Lee is also a friend of mine online and I will not stand for her being insulted. She is to Rin what Sean Schemmel is to Goku. I doubt you'll listen to me. With dub haters, it always goes through one ear and out the other. You give well thought out, logical debates, and all you get in return is "OMG! It's shit! You a dumbfauk for likin et!"
BioZero216 Finally someone who get's it, goodness grief......why must we complain about the voice actors? Personally as someone who has the original Fate/Stay Night, we like the fact that Rin is still the voice actor in this anime.
This speech Bryce did was pretty mediocre. I seriously hope he steps his game up in the show. It was like he was over-emphasizing everything he was saying. It doesn't sound real at all! It's too hammy. Even for this series. There is nothing that he said that convinced me any human being would talk like that. Bryce isn't selling it. I know it's anime. But I should be immersed in this trailer, and I'm completely not.
***** Oh, You're actually familiar with my work? Thanks. :) I also think you're right about it. It's hard to articulate exactly why Bryce sounds so dull...
***** Well, I live in California, so it's possible. Lol. I'm working on being a film director. If my dreams go to shit, I figured VA would be a good plan B.
Sorry Nonons voice for Rin just feels wrong to me. And my god Bryce take a break already I swear he is the new Johnny Young Bosh or Yuri Lowenthol. He is everywhere.
MonkeyxMoo35 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT BRYCE PAPERBAG IS DA BEST VOICE ACTOR IN THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY!!!!! BETTER THAN ANY JAPANESE ACTOR TOO!!!!!!!!
Oh boy...i'm not sure how to take this. I want to believe this'll be a good dub, the Zero dub surprised me with its decentness, and they got rid of Shirou's teenage mutant ninja turtle voice which is good. But on the other hand, Archer's cool voice got taken Aut. and Shirou's replacement is...a guy that basically does every voice. Its like they got JYB for Shirou. Atleast all the other voices are carried over, which is good. I thought Arturia, Sakura, Rin and Gil's Zero english voices were good, so we'll see
MrInuhanyou123 I would rather have JYB voice Shirou then Bryce imo, I don't think his voice fits Shirou. I'm a dub guy mostly and ill usually watch any dub (few exceptions like fate/kaleid) so ill give it a try, but it's still a big disappointment imo.
Gremory I don't usually watch dubs much these days, but i'll pop in the occasional one just for curiosity if i like it, i'm not well acquainted with Bryce(i hear he does Eren in SnK?) I dunno..and this other guy voicing archer i dont know period.
MrInuhanyou123 You are correct there. Bryce did voice Eren Shingeki no Kyojin, another example of an anime I watched in sub. He is almost exclusively known for his role as Kirito in SAO, so when I hear his voice I just go to Kirito straight away, and I don't recognize Archer's voice actor either... but he seems good enough atleast. I would have loved to see the original Shirou back (sorry don't know his name), and the role of Rin is really hard to match because of the Japense counterpart doing such a good job but like I said i'll give it a try, maybe the dub will grow on me.
Gremory That's me, cautious optimism. A lot of the returning VA's i don't really have an issue with, but when you change the main character's voice, who your hearing all the time, its gotta be a good one or it ruins the whole thing
MrInuhanyou123 I agree. When the whole dub is realesed which will be fairly soon I hope, I was planning to do a fate marathon and watch the original FSN all the way to UBW. But this dub isn't looking to good the more I think about it. Something about Bryce's voice is just annoying to me now. And I'm gussing you've seen Carnavel Phantasm from your PP.
parker maisterra indeed. im not sure why they didnt bring back archers VA. he still seems to be in the VA business since it doesnt seem like gaara's voice has changed in naruto
Wasn't a big Bryce Papenbrook person years before, but I've warmed up to him after hearing him as Eren Yaeger. I have high hopes for him as Shirou. Didn't like Mela Lee when I heard her at the Anime Expo event, but hearing her again she sounds fine. Kari Wahlgren was great in Zero, she'll do great again here as Saber. Also, for those doubting the dub, Aniplex ain't so great with editing trailers... everything will probably sound much better in the actual show.
People are complaining like shit over Bryce getting the role of Shirou... People, this is just a trailer. YOU CAN'T DECIDE IF YOU LIKE/DISLIKE THE VOICE ACTOR, OR DUB JUST BY A FREAKIN' TRAILER. It's best to wait until the dub is actually available and watch a whole episode to give an actual opinion. And as for those expressing distaste over Bryce as Shirou- Cut the guy some slack. He's a freakin' actor! He auditioned for him, and the guy who directs the dub (in this case Tony Oliver) decided that he best suited for the role. And he DOES NOT appear in EVERYTHING. Sure he did some roles when he was younger, but now he's older, and has been getting more publicity. Heck, his most popular roles like Kirito on Sword Art Online, and Eren Yeagar on Attack on Titan were what put him on the map. So to the people not having much of a liking towards Bryce as Shirou- give the guy a break, and wait until you can see a whole episode to make an official judgement.
I like this voice for Keire better then the voice in the original fate/stay night. Glad they kept Rin voice the same but sad that Shiros voice has changed
When I think about it Bryce Papenbrook could fit Shirou. I just hope the voice he gives to him doesn't sound too high pitched since that wouldn't fit Shirou imo
All that about the original being better having been said, I like Crispin Freeman as Kirei a lot more than Joji Nakata. Which is weird, cuz I like Joji. I just feel Crispin is more in tube with Kirei, like how the Japanese cast is mostly more in tune with their respective characters. Saber rocks in either one. Also, Mela Lee is much better at Rin's German(?) spellcasting than Kana Ueda. Ueda's gotten much better at it and sounds cooler than ever in UBW, but she still makes Rin sound like she's reading it off a piece of paper or struggling to remember the verses. When Lee does it, it's a straight, methodical string of words. You hear that and there's no doubt some wicked magic is about to go down. Other than that, it's all a matter of preference; the two of them do sound right, but different.
Bryce is Shirou? Seriously? -_- ...........................OF COURSE! He does every main lead ever! What the fuck happened to Sam Riegel? Was he found dead in a ditch somewhere? I actually want to keep a consistent voice, but no! Dubs for the Fate series always freakin' changes now! Because now every time I hear Shirou talk, I keep on hearing freakin Kirito! And what happened to O'Brien as Archer? He was perfect for Archer! Everyone else is fine, but I'm disappointed with the main main leads of Shirou and Archer.
exleader45 O"Brien was already in Fate/Zero, they couldn't use him again but with a different character; beside what about Fate/kaleid liner prisma illya cast? It was completely different than this or the previous dubs.
That was Fate/Zero. This is 10 years later, and wanted a consistent cast for FSN from the DEEN version. And Fate/K was from Sentai, and their dubs are usually bad because they do it in-house rather than go to professional Bang-Zoom.
exleader45 i honestly didn't think Riegel was that much better for Shirou. That wasn't one of his best roles in anime, Bryce may be mediocre in a lot of things but for Shirou, it fits better than Riegel.
Only real sore thumb is Mela Lee being completely unable to execute 80 - 90% of her lines. Even Bryce is okay despite sounding nothing like Sam Riegel.
the awkward OST placement in this trailer bugged me more than the english voices. i think bringing Rin's VA from deen's was a smart move, i cant see anyone else that would fit her
What's so funny is that I remember discussing likely VA choices for the dub, and one thing was definitely agreed on: DON'T have Bryce as Shirou. Not only do we have him, but O'Brien isn't Archer any more - something the old DEEN anime actually got _right!_ _Sigh..._ this is disappointing
Guys, the first season of Fate Stay Night UBW is now on Netflix! I just watched the English Dub for the first 3 episodes and I have to say, it's pretty good. It's easy getting used to the new voice changes. And Saber's VA from the Fate/Zero dub is back and epic as always. And to be honest, you people shouldn't judge a whole dub just from a single clip and call it bad =/ At least try watching a few episodes. It ain't even that dreadful. To all you haters of the English Dub... just deal with it. The dub is already set in stone. It always has. There's no use of complaining. I get you're trying to voice your opinion, but get over it.
I missed Sam Riegel as Shirou's voice from Fate/Stay Night, but I don't think I can distinguish between Kate Higgins and Kari Wahlgren! Saber looked very beautiful and elegant, the shot of her armoured legs under her dress was really good, and Rin also looked very hot, especially her thighs. The voice acting was good! And Crispin Freeman as Kirei Kotomine's voice was pretty intimidating!! Glad some actors came back though!
Okay I am not going to lie or judge the english dub of Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works until i see it for myself but so far i liked it I'm not going to start hating on it since i have not seen the first 3 or 5 episodes of it dub i mean for real guys it's just a trailer some trailers may not be your liking but to others it is if anyone likes it good for you if you don't like it and if it's your opinions it's fine but don't go around hating others for it as well on voice actors and actresses they are doing their jobs and want to have a good time playing as their character stop being so close minded and being stupid you thinking you know shit when clearly you don't if you dub haters think you could do much better by all means try to vioce act and see how you like it when others start hating on you. please note I do not hate pepole who give their opinions or reasons as long as they are pretty good ones. if you are mature enough to understand this great if not i do not know what to tell you are on your own on this one.
Bryce Papenbrook? Are you fucking kidding me? God dammit. Why did they replace Sam Riegel?! And if they had to, couldn't they have replaced him with someone who is actually good like Johnny Yong Bosch? And who's the dipshit who decided to replace Liam O'Brien as the voice of Archer with a fucking nobody? And they still haven't found someone better than Mela Lee to voice Rin? Michelle Ruff would've been perfect! Fuck I'm mad...
I think it's safe to say Bryce has the Kirito syndrome. Anyone who voice acts Kirito will go be voices for almost every other Main Character known to anime, and still only be known for that one role
Yuri Lowenthall as Archer would be a solid choice imo Archer or Shirou, since he did such a wonderful job as Suzaku in Code Geass, and would do Archer's sarcasm and shittalk perfectly Bryce kinda ruined Eren and I can see him bombing Shirou too. Especially when it comes to the "Thats hell you're walking into" scene.
uftable has the best animation I have ever seen. Kara no Kyoukai was my first glimpse at them, and they just continue to please my eyes. They make the most lively anime out there.
OK, Archer's VA Kaiji Tang uploaded this: soundcloud.com/kaiji-tang/ubw-archer-mix Alright, I'm still mad they replaced Liam O'Brien but I'll give Tang a shot for now. He sounds like he has potential. Still mad about Bryce Papenbrook for Shirou. He does not fit the role at all. Should've remained as Sam Riegel or replaced by Johnny Yong Bosch.
MEPSIPAX Ok I loved that. In a sense it may be like how it was it the joker in Dark knight. We got little stuff but not enough to know if it was actually good. But IF it is like that then I will be fine. Now we have to solve the problem with shirou. Why is it so hard to get him a good VA that isn't every where
Jesus christ. fuck Pepenbrook. the only 2 performances i actually like him in is Rin from blue exorcist and Nagito from Danganronpa. Why the hell is he the voice for every fucking male MC now. now when shirou talks, i wont be able to stop thinking of kirito.
Fuck Papenbrook? Grow the Hell up. You have no right to insult him as a person simply because you dislike his acting. That is hateful, disgusting and childish.
BioZero216 I don't hate him as a person. I don't even know him. But does that not give me the right to be annoyed that he is literally in every fucking show that Aniplex makes now, and as the MC no less. He isn't even that good of a VA. He has become a joke. He is like the new Johnny Yong Bosch or Monica Rial or Josh Grelle.
AnimeFlyz All of those VA's you mentioned are fantastic actors. Just because he's used a lot doesn't mean he's bad. He fits his characters. Also, you directly said "Fuck Papenbrook." How else am I supposed to interpret that?
BioZero216 what are you, his fanboy or something? Give other less priveledged VA's a chance. Bryce literally has 1 voice. People like J Micheal Tatem blow him away.
Ok, so we can talk about how I agonized over how they might cast Bryce Papenbrook as Shirou--agonized in the sense that I think he can pull off his screams and his anger, but have to wait and see if he can pull off the vulnerability and naivete? Also, can we talk about how Archer is in fact played by Mr. Mohawk from Kill la Kill? You know, the guy that made sewing machine guns fairly badass? Can we talk about freaking Todd Haberkorn as Assassin? Can we talk about fucking Melissa Fahn--fucking RADICAL EDWARD from Cowboy Bebop--as Rider? Can we talk about this, please?
So, final thoughts. I'm open to it. I don't care for Bryce, but he has done like 2-3 roles I did like him in. And with the director being the same from F/Z I'm hoping that helps guide him in the right direction, because I DO want this to be good after all. Archer threw me off at first but after hearing his other works and his version of Archer Prayer, I think he can do it. Idk why people are up in arms with Rin. She has been Rin forever now, even in the masterpiece that is the Fate/Zero dub. If they are still casting her as the character, even with them changing other cast members, pretty sure she'll be fine in the role, for a fourth time. All the other VAs are pretty much perfectly fine.
Ah Look all those raged comments of F/Z Night dubs because the cast change ? deal with people just because you hear the trailer doesn't mean it's going to be BAD .
Eight-Three-Eight Indeed... you'd have to be stupid to try that because even most diehard pro-subs will turn on you, ESPECIALLY in the case of Cowboy Bebop.
I'm slowly warming up to Bryce Papenbrook as Shirou, Kaiji Tang could work well as Archer, he reminds me a little bit of Junichi Suwabe. Crispin Freeman's Kirei is even better than I was expecting (loved it in Zero but was concerned if he wouldn't work in Stay Night.. His voice has gotten deeper in the right way, it's not Joji Nakata but it's good on its own and i'm very glad Mela, Kari, Tony and Stephanie are back reprising their roles. The only casting i'm not really fond of is Todd Haberkorn as Assassin...that should have been Steve Blum or Keith Silverstein IMO. oh well...everyone else will work very well.
TheCreed1217 Thanks. His voice is too cool for school. I dunno with Todd...his voice is smooth but his pitch is too high. It worked with bishonen characters like Jadiete in Sailor Moon and Death the Kid but that's because they didn't need to be at a deep pitch. Honestly Todd was more of a Shinji voice in my mind.
TheMerk52 well their's always Heaven's Feels....when that inevitably comes out. No doubt they're reusing this same cast from UBW for Heaven's Feels now.
True true, just love crispin Freeman's voice acting just perfect for me, btw love your Avi, I really wish monthly girls nozaki kun gets a dub, although I doubt it since Sentai hasn't been doing many lately only one I know of is NGNL
Okay, seriously though people. It's a frikken television anime. Calm down (oh wait, that's asking you to be reasonable and responsible human beings. Nevermind carry on.) Also, getting a dub means a new perspective and a new experience while watching (some of us like this). I enjoy this for a lot of reasons, mainly, hearing new voice actors and new emotions through the same characters changes the story a lot. This is fun for me and so I watch dubs and subs together and am really excited when a new english dub comes out. Also, none of these voices sound bad, at all. Aniplex has done a great job with their dubbing of Zero and this will be no different IMO. What really matters is voice direction here, Tony Oliver is a good VA and will (from the sound of this) direct a great dub! So calm down people and if you hate it so much, stick with subs, seriously. If all else fails, choke on BioZero216 's comment. At least he seems to have some sense. Also . . . Not sure how I got here, halp. HEY! Luvia in a leotard! Imma click that video!
Yang Xiao Long It's probably because you've watched the Japanese version first or something. Try watching the dub first, and you would be saying the same thing to the Japanese version. The voice actors do "fit" the characters. The problem with your statement is that it doesn't sound like the Japanese version. The dub is suppose to be different. That's how great dubs are made.
FErgersonn THE GREAT I did watch it in Japanese first, but that's not why I don't like the voices for the dub. Dubs are going to sound different no matter how you look at it, I know that. It's just my opinion that I don't think they fit these characters. I've started with dubs first then went over to the Japanese because I didn't like the way the dub sounded, and I've watched animes in both laungues and enjoyed them equally. It's just my preference.
Yang Xiao Long Did you watch the Fate/Zero dub? Like seriously it is one of the best dubs. And this has the same director as well and returning VAs from the series. And Saber, Kirei and Kiritsugu are all reprising their roles which is good.Especially for Kirei and Saber since that means they will probably be in the heaven feel movies as well then. They did an AMAZING job in F/Z so glad to see them back. BUT...yeah Shirou is questionable... I do want him to be good though...please be a good Shirou...plz.
Troy Baker should be Archer. He's really good at Cool, confident and suave, but also grizzled and broken. He's also good at changing his voice so he would might have been good for Shirou to.
OmegaLittleBob Troy Baker is literally in everything. That is the number 1 complaint about english dubs is that they always casting well known voice actors.
darkfur3 Its the exact same thing in Japan. I really don't care if the actor is good for the part. The complaint doesn't make much sense to me either. We don't complain when we see the same actors in movies every year.
Um.... ok I don't know about this. Bryce Papenbrook has a tendency to be really annoying at first but as I get used to him I really like him (like in SAO and Attack on Titan), it'll probably be the same here, at least not as corny as Sam Reigel (sorry Sam fans, I just didn't like him as Shirou.) The real guys who make me cringe are Mela Lee and Kaiji Tang. Now I like Mela Lee, but she has NEVER worked for me as Rin, she always made Rin sound so... old, like she was in her early 40's. And Kaiji Tang as Archer, I'll have to see more of him but his one line was just cringe-worthy for me. This really stinks because I think everyone else sounds great! I was a bit harsh with my initial reaction of the Fate/Zero dub because the cast was actually really good. It's great to hear Kari Wahlgren and Crispin Freeman back as Saber and Kirei, and the newcomers look to be promising as well. Cristina Vee as Sakura? Hell yes, when the Heaven's Feel dub comes out she's going to be awesome!! So... mixed bag for me. I'll watch it, I could really love it, but I'm kinda glad I bought the Import sets first.
Micah Delgado I sort of share that same sentiment with Bryce except I hate SAO and AOT is just ok. Bryce's better roles are Rin Okumura, Masaomi Kida and Staz D. Blood....like his more laid back cool fun characters, Shirou isn't that and at that's the issue. I respectfully disagree with Mela but i can respect your opinion.
I agree mela is good but as rin I've never been sure about that, however the big one for me is Bryce I can't back that one really felt josh grelle who plays armin on AoT would've been perfect loved him in pyscho pass as inspector ginoza
TheMerk52 Josh Grelle would have been a far superior Shirou in every way. shame outside of Tales of Xillia 2 he's never worked in LA. This would have been a great stepping stone for him in LA. I hope someday Josh makes the movie. It's working out well for every FUNi and NYAV Post VA thus far.
I wonder how many people realize Bryce hasn't been cast in a new role in nearly a year and hasn't gotten a new major role from Aniplex in nearly 2 years.
Rin sounds so wrong. Archer is meh. I might get used to it later but I think it should have been better, these two are the main characters. Shirou is good the rest is ok. Kotomine's voice is f*cking amazing
Zayd Gh Freeman as Kirei and David Vincent as Gilgamesh were two of my favorite voices in Fate/Zero. I'll probably end up watching this dub just for the reason of hearing them back in their roles again.
popiposh I appreciated what Vincent was going for with his Gilgamesh, but it just didn't work for me. He was too nasally. I always felt Gilgamesh's voice should actually sound really attractive, but his words should make you angry since he's such an ass. Oh well, better than Lancer's VA in Zero, who was just horribly miscast.
Calvin Dang That's the normal price for a half a season throughout all anime Blu-rays so it's not that bad. I own the first season's Blu-ray Box Set and have the second season on pre-order. Totally worth. A must for any dedicated Fate fan.
People hating on the dub for Zero/UBW/Heaven's Feel need to learn a lesson. It's one of the best dubs I've ever watched without a doubt
Lets see if you go to Japan and find me someone whose got dubbed in unsynchronized lip
Learn what lesson? Just from this trailer "You are to be rejoicing, my boy" is such an idiotic, incompetent and tone-deaf translation of one of the most iconic and belived lines in the entire frenchise, I just had to stop the video there because the second hand embarrassment for whoever got paid for that was about to kill me ;)
@@obinator3486Nha I liked it.
Multiple things
1. That's a BS reason to hate
2. Since when was this the most iconic and belived line in the anime 😂, I don't even know what he said in Japanese that made it iconic, there are far better quotes in fate @@obinator3486
Keyword “i’ve”
Voice actors since the original stay night dub: Rin, Illya, Kuzuki, Taiga, and Lancer
Voice actors from Zero coming over: Saber, Sakura, Kirei, Gilgamesh, Kiritsugu
New voice actors(in the fact that they were not involved in Fate prior): Shirou, Archer, Caster, Assassin, Rider, Shinji, Issei
For anyone who is confused with who is who and who is actually new to Fate voice wise.
Mike The Anime Runner I wish i could have been there. :(
***** Part 2 for the dub has not been announced yet.
***** Well there is the Heaven's Feel movie(hopefully movies) coming out later this year. That's definitely something to look forward to.
***** I just want multiple Heaven's Feel movies. If there end up being like 3 movies, then I can leave the Fate franchise very satisfied.
***** I don't know. Based on whats coming up though, Ufotable might start leaning towards adapting other things from other franchises, like the Tales Of series.
Thank you for an English dub :)
***** yeah that was a real bummer...it's worse once you realized that Scott Freeman didn't just not reprise but he's quit the industry altogether after shit kept getting worse for him in real life. ;_;
Coincidentally tho, issei new voice change in DxD is who I wanted to play shirou, josh grelle, he's great especially as inspector ginoza in pyscho pass
What exactly happened to Scott Freeman?
I really wanted Liam O'Brien to voice Archer again... He was just such a perfect fit in the Deen Fate/Stay Night adaptation. On the other hand I am really happy they brought back Crispin Freeman as Kirei Kotomine.
So far the dub has been good, keep up the great work Aniplex
Hey Aniplex. Just dropping a line, saying that I for one loved Bryce's performance in this, and the rest of the cast as well. I'll definitely be buying the English release.
One thing I noticed is that Jessica DiCicco of Adventure Time and Gravity Falls fame is voicing a minor character in this dub....that's pretty surprising.
>that Shirito and Archer
I just NOPED the fuck out of here.
Nothing against Papenbrook, but he's not Shirou. And Liam O'Brien was already perfect as Archer.
Now everytime I watch Fate/stay night, Kirito and Eren will pop up in my mind. That completely kills the atmosphere, at least for me.
cotelo who even cares? subs > dubs so why bother judging in the first place?
Lilrony26 Even if I'm not gonna buy/watch it, that isn't excuse for doing a half-assed job. It's like government policies: even if some of them doesn't affect me, it must be a quality product/service.
cotelo lmao just noped the fuck out of here, gotta say i agree that archer and shiro though. gonna be a god damn train wreck.
Judging a dub by the trailer alone is stupid and close-minded. Watch at least the majority of the dub, them judge it. What you're doing is no different than judging an entire movie by the trailer.
cotelo So true!
And once again, Crispin Freeman is the best part of the cast.
No Liam O' Brien... Aniplex, you had one fucking job. Oh well, at least they got a new Shirou! Aaand it's Bryce...
jmcm30 your pic works well with the comment xD
Liam O'Brien voiced somebody else in Fate/Zero
LightflashZ Kariya. Doesn't justify getting rid of the perfect VA for one of the main characters.
Why are people bitching about Mela Lee's Rin? It's perfect.
BioZero216 she's as close as you could get for an english Kana Ueda...well unless you managed to get Tabitha St. Germain that is....still
BioZero216 >SHEEROW
It's not like this is her first time voicing Rin. And Ueda Kana, even if high pitched, has range.
cotelo
1: That is how Shirou's name is pronounced.
2: Range doesn't matter. Emotion does.
BioZero216 the funny thing is that in the trailer other people call shirou and not sheerou
So yeah, she's not even getting the emotion right.
crispin freeman on kirei works pretty well. Saber's dub is actually the closest anyone can get to her original, Looking alright so far.
Kirei, lancer, and saber sound great. Everyone else needs to impress me
Instead of doing what pretty much everyone in the comments section is doing and dislike Shirou's new VA (which I absolutely agree on all parts), I'm going to mention Lancer.
Is it the same Lancer from DEEN? I'm going to guess he'll be bringing back Gay Bulges.
Glad they finally stuck with a voice for Saber.
Joe Devaney I still think the voice is too deep for the character. But the actress does a really great job, so I like her.
OmegaLittleBob How's it too deep? She's a grown woman.
OmegaLittleBob Even so, I'd rather think the voice fitting the personality is what counts.
Joe Devaney Agreed
Dude Kotomine's voice is perfect
Oh my God...Saber's VA didn't change for once! It's a miracle!
Also, Todd Haberkorn is Assassin...I'm not sure how to feel about this... I mean, I love me some Haberkorn, but him as Assassin doesn't seem well matched, at least to me. Oh well, I'm sure he won't disappoint.
Crispin Freeman's voice is powerful enough to topple mountains. Exponentially fitting for an impeccable villain like Kirei.
IMHO, Nakada Joji's English speaking is good enough for him to also dub Kotomine Kirei in English.
I love Archer's voice. Don't care what you think.
AAAAWWW YEAH!! IT HAS COME! **watches the video**
Ooooooooohhhh chills down my spine! XD At first I wasn't sure about Bryce being Shirou, but as the trailer went on, I felt like he'll do a good job. All the other voices fit their characters. :D
Glad to see some previous dub's (Sentai's version) VAs coming back here -- like Lancer for example.

I almost cried when I found out that Liam O'Brien wasn't voicing Archer. Now I am crying... TT_TT
Saber is perfect as usual~
Comes out on 8/25, the first 13 episodes are already on Netflix.
Wow,just wow :D
Shame no Liam O'brien as Archer, and Im guessing Gilgamesh is David Vincent still?
Sōma Yukihira It is him. and thank god. He was perfect as Gilgamesh.
AutovoltGTS yeah the dub for Fate/Zero was really good.
Liam O'Brian was somebody else in Fate/Zero.
AutovoltGTS I didn't think I was going to like him but he really surprised me, glad to see him back.
LightflashZ he was kariya
"Ready or not, I shall come to take your life!"
Please don't tell me that's Lancer's voice...
BioZero216 Preech it Zero!
Rafael Lopez A dub fanboy? I'll take that as a compliment. That is how much I love these actors.
Rafael Lopez I get that, but if they express their opinions like assholes, that's where I draw the line.
BioZero216 Finally someone who get's it, goodness grief......why must we complain about the voice actors? Personally as someone who has the original Fate/Stay Night, we like the fact that Rin is still the voice actor in this anime.
I like the dub too
This is actually a trailer that I like.Going to start watching
This speech Bryce did was pretty mediocre. I seriously hope he steps his game up in the show. It was like he was over-emphasizing everything he was saying. It doesn't sound real at all! It's too hammy. Even for this series. There is nothing that he said that convinced me any human being would talk like that. Bryce isn't selling it. I know it's anime. But I should be immersed in this trailer, and I'm completely not.
***** Naw. It's okay. I'm glad I saw this. :)
***** Thank you~
***** Well, he can keep Kirito. xDD
Sorry Nonons voice for Rin just feels wrong to me. And my god Bryce take a break already I swear he is the new Johnny Young Bosh or Yuri Lowenthol. He is everywhere.
Ken Krumbach That isn't Nonon's voice. That's Mela Lee, the original VA for Rin in the first Fate/Stay night dub.
Nonon was voiced by Sarah Williams.
Oh sorry she just sounded familiar. Never saw the first dub of fate stay/night.
Ken Krumbach she also voiced Rin in Fate/Zero. I'm glad Mela is back...she sounds pretty much as close to an english Kana Ueda anyways.
***** Who's they?
Ken Krumbach The difference is that Johnny and Yuri are actually good at what they do. Bryce just sucks period.
That Rin
Good god! I'm glad I decided not to wait for the dub! XD
I love Bryce but... I don't think he'll make a good Shirou....
MonkeyxMoo35 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT BRYCE PAPERBAG IS DA BEST VOICE ACTOR IN THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY!!!!! BETTER THAN ANY JAPANESE ACTOR TOO!!!!!!!!
Lilrony26 HAHAHAHAHAHAAH -___- no
Lilrony26 I pray to god that you are trolling.
blink14k i hope you know hes joking
MonkeyxMoo35 they should have kept Sam Riegel
Bryce is Shirou now? Yo, what happened to Sam, man?
IMO, I think Illya's VA fits her perfectly ~
She sounds so cute, and it fits her cuz shes deceiving af
+Sarah “iknowmeforever” Ikr I really love Illya' voice so much it's to adroable
+NarutoBleachPS3Fan Well hello there :^)
Illya best loli (oh wait, #only loli?)
Sarah Hello to you too ^^
Illya is always the best loli ever!
Awesome Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works English Dub Trailer.
You may now make jokes about Alucard being a priest.
***** You are late dude. We been making those jokes since the Japanese dub of the original tv show.
My thoughts.
Eh.
My main problem is Shirou and Archer, everyone else is fine.
ShutUpAdachi The voices for UBW movie was much better for those two.
parker maisterra indeed. im not sure why they didnt bring back archers VA. he still seems to be in the VA business since it doesnt seem like gaara's voice has changed in naruto
regirockrocks123 AKA BF | iamresh
VA?
parker maisterra voice actor
regirockrocks123 AKA BF | iamresh
oh.
.
.
Still don't like the VA for this. I hear kirito from sao
CRISPIN FREEMAN HAS RETURNED!!!!! :D
Rin's voice doesn't really feel like it matches. The others were pretty good.
I disagree with you, I really like Rin's
All I wanted was liam o'brien as archer he was more than perfect for the role
This anime taught me that people die when they are killed.
Kirito is Shiro Emiya!! The epicness!!!!!! THE EPICNESS!!!!!
I like this voice for Keire better then the voice in the original fate/stay night. Glad they kept Rin voice the same but sad that Shiros voice has changed
I cannot wait for this Bryce Papenbrook is one of my favorite voice actors
Other than that, it's all a matter of preference; the two of them do sound right, but different.
is that the voice of Kirito?
Unfortunately
that what I said😂
Rin's voice.... Goddamn. I swear I've heard Shirou's voice in soooo many dubbed animes.
leoncio989 She sounds like she's 5 years old?
That wasn't one of his best roles in anime, Bryce may be mediocre in a lot of things but for Shirou, it fits better than Riegel.
exleader45 Sentai actors aren't bad, I do wish they use the LA actors, it's just me going though whiplash.
exleader45 probably because o'brien did the voice of Kariya in F/Z
Only real sore thumb is Mela Lee being completely unable to execute 80 - 90% of her lines. Even Bryce is okay despite sounding nothing like Sam Riegel.
the awkward OST placement in this trailer bugged me more than the english voices. i think bringing Rin's VA from deen's was a smart move, i cant see anyone else that would fit her
What's so funny is that I remember discussing likely VA choices for the dub, and one thing was definitely agreed on: DON'T have Bryce as Shirou.
Not only do we have him, but O'Brien isn't Archer any more - something the old DEEN anime actually got _right!_
_Sigh..._ this is disappointing
So Bryce Papenbrook is the new Johnny Young Bosch eh?
I'm not a big fan of Shirou's voice but I still think it's better than the voice for the original fate stay night imo
Don’t know why but I miss Sam riegal as Shirou too, I feel like it’s matches Shirou’s personality more.
I really wish they'd get Yuri Lowenthal to voice Shirou instead.
Any one here from 2019?
Bryce? Again?
Look, I know everyone loves him as their go-to voice for an MC, but really?
I think it's safe to say Bryce has the Kirito syndrome. Anyone who voice acts Kirito will go be voices for almost every other Main Character known to anime, and still only be known for that one role
Wait this sounds like Kirito I can tell by his voice or is it Bryce
Cool to see they went with the Fate/Zero cast. Kaiji Tang makes a pretty neat Archer if you ask me.
Yuri Lowenthall as Archer would be a solid choice imo
Archer or Shirou, since he did such a wonderful job as Suzaku in Code Geass, and would do Archer's sarcasm and shittalk perfectly
Bryce kinda ruined Eren and I can see him bombing Shirou too. Especially when it comes to the "Thats hell you're walking into" scene.
uftable has the best animation I have ever seen. Kara no Kyoukai was my first glimpse at them, and they just continue to please my eyes. They make the most lively anime out there.
OK, Archer's VA Kaiji Tang uploaded this:
soundcloud.com/kaiji-tang/ubw-archer-mix
Alright, I'm still mad they replaced Liam O'Brien but I'll give Tang a shot for now.
Why is it so hard to get him a good VA that isn't every where
MEPSIPAX He does play Kida in Durarara! so I say his voice could go either way.
Joe Devaney Bryce worked well for Kida, but he just doesn't really work well for Shirou. Bryce would be a much better Shinji Matou if you ask me.
+MEPSIPAX That we can agree on for Shiro. As for Saber I will miss Kate Higgins. :(
Jesus christ. fuck Pepenbrook. the only 2 performances i actually like him in is Rin from blue exorcist and Nagito from Danganronpa.
AnimeFlyz It's not a contest. JMT is friends with Bryce. They have shared a panel more than once.
Can we talk about this, please?
adoranymphlupin I don't see how Todd as Assassin would work. His voice is too high to be Assassin
JayKay 26 Ikr? I'm curious to see what angle he's going for with that. And if it actually works.
adoranymphlupin I have had the same though with Bryce Papenbrook as Shirou.I like Tsumugu's voice, and I think it will fit Archer quite well.
Lol @ when Shirou screamed "Saber!".
Damn... is this a comment section or a sub vs. dub warzone?
+Steven Choza Anytime there is a dubbed anime scene or trailer posted on youtube it becomes a sub v dub warzone.
Bormannator
Indeed.
There's probably only two shows where the comments section won't be like that: Cowboy Bebop or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Eight-Three-Eight
Indeed... you'd have to be stupid to try that because even most diehard pro-subs will turn on you, ESPECIALLY in the case of Cowboy Bebop.
Positives: Saber's VA, Dan Green
Negatives: Everyone else
AutovoltGTS i totally agree with your choice with Keith, it just works!!!
The only thing that saddens me is Kirei really doesn't come out all that much, so we won't get much of crispin freeman
Not feeling this cast...None of the voices fit quite right, I love all of the actors, but not for these characters...
ZeroKen227 I haven't watched Fate/Zero yet.
It's pretty legit. I hold it up there as one of the best dubs I've heard. Like Cowboy Bebop and such.
So I have hope this one.
I've seen fate/zero so thanks for telling me about this. I really aprishat it really!
I still don't like Shirou's VA the rest are ok but the voice doesn't fit in my mind...
Anime Pianist Atomu-kun i think he sounds good, im just tired of seeing him in EVERYTHING
C.J. Jones thats true
C.J. Jones Lol then looks like you don't like the core of Fate/Stay Night xD
Guilty crown!
NobleHusky the dubbed isn't that great compared to the subbed
Troy Baker should be Archer. He's really good at Cool, confident and suave, but also grizzled and broken. He's also good at changing his voice so he would might have been good for Shirou to.
OmegaLittleBob Troy Baker is literally in everything. That is the number 1 complaint about english dubs is that they always casting well known voice actors.
darkfur3 Its the exact same thing in Japan. I really don't care if the actor is good for the part. The complaint doesn't make much sense to me either. We don't complain when we see the same actors in movies every year.
Um.... ok I don't know about this. Bryce Papenbrook has a tendency to be really annoying at first but as I get used to him I really like him (like in SAO and Attack on Titan), it'll probably be the same here, at least not as corny as Sam Reigel (sorry Sam fans, I just didn't like him as Shirou.)
The real guys who make me cringe are Mela Lee and Kaiji Tang.
Micah Delgado I haven't watched the Deen version of F/SN. But from what I heard I like Liam O'Brien's voice of Archer better than this dude's.
AutovoltGTS I never thought of Josh Grelle as Shirou... but now that you say it I actually wish he was cast, he could've been really good.
I wonder how many people realize Bryce hasn't been cast in a new role in nearly a year and hasn't gotten a new major role from Aniplex in nearly 2 years.
***** What about Aldnoah Zero?
Kuro ken You're right, but that's not a major role and I changed my comment to reflect this point.
***** I see then.
Rin sounds so wrong.
Archer is meh.
I might get used to it later but I think it should have been better, these two are the main characters.
Shirou is good
the rest is ok.
Kotomine's voice is f*cking amazing
HF dub will be great
Zayd Gh Rin sounds wrong because she sounds like a 5 year old instead of a nearly fully grown adult.
Oh well, better than Lancer's VA in Zero, who was just horribly miscast.
well technically shirou is the main mc then rin and archer
They actually kept Rin's VA from Dean Stay Night.....
Ian Dean I could have sworn I'd heard they were re-casting everyone who wasn't in Zero, but I guess I was wrong.
Was what orange boys voice from code geass
Yeah, his name's Crispin Freeman. Milly and Xingke's voice actors are in this also.
After sitting through the whole series in Japanese, I don't think I'd ever be able to get used to these English Dub voices.
$180 hahahahahhaha ;__;
Calvin Dang And the import?
***** $400 hahahahahha ;_;
Calvin Dang Well?
***** $400...for EACH VOLUME. That makes it $800.
Calvin Dang That's the normal price for a half a season throughout all anime Blu-rays so it's not that bad. I own the first season's Blu-ray Box Set and have the second season on pre-order. Totally worth. A must for any dedicated Fate fan.
Yo that voice in the beginning of the video sounds like Kirito from SAO 🤔
am i the only one who dosn't really like rins voice actor
Ethan O'Neill nope your not the only. They never do Rin justice with her english VA
Ethan O'Neill You are not alone. She's horribly miscast, or mis-directed or something. Rin should not sound like a 5 year old.
Rin dub actor is great
Shirou is good,
Archer still 50/50
Kirei is AWESOME
Illya AWESOME
Rin is wut...
still excited for Todd Haberkorn as Assassin.
