  • Are you looking for an affordable way to work the dirt in your riding arena? Or are you just getting started with making a riding arena - and want to use the existing dirt you have?
This little tiller might be just the thing you need. I bought this because my arena was in horrible condition. And on top of that, we have had so much rain that any loose soil I had has washed away. Leaving a super hard surface - which is not great for my horse's feet.
My arena groomer wasn't making much of a difference, so I decided to buy this Sun Joe rototiller/cultivator. I figured it couldn't hurt.
And this little tiller worked great! Not only did it help me to get rid of all of the weeds that have been growing, but it made fast work of breaking up the hard clay, and gave me deeper footing, so I can ride my horse in my arena without worrying that I am going to put extra stress on his legs or feet!
This is a much more affordable option than getting an arena groomer. It is work - so you will have to be prepared to spend some time out in the arena. But I think it's worth it. I mean, it was totally worth it to me.
And not only do I have an awesome tool for my arena, but this is perfect for making an incredible garden too!
This is an electric tiller - so you will need an extension cord for it too. I chose a 12 amp extension cord that is 100 feet long, and I bought 2 in order to be able to get it out to my arena and they are great too!

It might be cheaper but it's also gonna take you a week to finish. And you need a ton of extension cords. I have one. It's a great tool, I'd never use it for this. Also shouldn't you truck in more dirt ect instead of tearing up the base. I don't know I've never had a fancy manicured arena, I live in FL so our soil is sand and drains really well but my understanding of it is that there are specific layers for drainage ect and it looks like you were maybe pulling them up.

Oh my OCD ... just start at one end in straight lines, moving away from cord source - you are expending way too much energy

Definitely looks like a lot of work, but I appreciate your industrious attitude! I will stick with my tractor and groomer, but it may be good for the weeds like you say.

You always find great tools. This would be good for round pen, not to mention just for small garden projects.
