They're also fed up of being demonised for wanting to protect their land and eat farmed animals that graze grasslands - Vegans can't eat grass even though it's the most common form of greenery, grazers can, and we can eat them. Replacing this system with more mono-crops instead of less is maximum environmental destruction. As a non-fake Green Guy I'd start by banning grain crops and the decorative plant industry, all greenhouses used from food production.
What an incredibly respectful, kind and intelligent guy. Not many people have the self awareness that this guy showed. I'm happy that he will join the vegan community. The world needs more people like him.
I don't own an iphone and thrift when ever I can. Veganism is not about perfection. We live in a world driven by money and unfortunately avoiding cell phones or the occasional new garment is just not possible for some of us including vegans. It took me a really long time to give up animal products because I didn't understand or want to hear about my impact and the damage and suffering my consumption was causing. Six years after going vegan I can't imagine returning to my old ways. It's been the most rewarding and also eye opening decision I've ever made. It's possible to do your best maybe not be perfect but when you stop eating animals you're already reducing your impact and incredible amount. There's no accountability among the people, so we blame selfish decisions on our ability to trade rather than looking in the mirror for everything that's wrong with the world.

Thank you for this! I hear this response often when having these conversations. Also I just finished "This is Vegan Propaganda" and even got a family member to agree to read it. Well done!
Great discussion - many of my leftist friends have similar counterpoints to veganism that appeal to futility which Sahil brings up, such as the common, "There's no ethical consumption under capitalism." It's odd and inconsistent to hear that from leftists, and I think Ed does a great job of approaching the conversation (as always) with grace and consistency.
the statement is true but even under capitalism its possible to have not only worker exploitation but also animal exploitation, so its preferable to have one over both.
I think this is the Achilles heel of this movement. Many Vegans dumb it down to left vs right, Theist vs Atheist, capitalism vs communism argument. There's somehow this notion among people that Vegans are leftists, Atheists, communists and have some large insidious plan which they propagate under the garb of veganism. Vegans just can't comprehend to appeal this cause in a stand alone manner. They must have same same political or ideological or theological consensus. And when people start to associate Veganism with left, they also associate it with other left ideologies like wokeism. And their grudge or presumption for one leftist ideology percolates and seeps down to veganism. So their mind turns up their defense systems whenever in a debate with Vegan, and starts to give all types of contradictory reasons for not being a vegan. They become stubborn and make it an ego issue. Like if they accept that veganism has some points to ponder upon, they will have to suffer from an identity crisis and they have to change each and every aspect of their life. Like if they are believe in God they have to be an atheist or if they are republican they will have to be a democrat or whatever. I mean how hard can it be to convince the people to not kill a living being unnecessarily when we have better alternatives. Turns out it is very hard, so there must be something that they are trying to defend that they hold very precious. And they think Veganism will destroy it and impact the society in a bad way. I think this psyche is a major issue and hiccup.
Exactly. While there's no ethical consumption there's still better and worse. Absolutes are for people that accept an ideology without thinking twice. Speaking from the left
I was, much to my surprise, moved to tears watching this. Sadness for the suffering of the animals, hope for the change that is, can and will occur on this world, and admiration for both of these men. Yes, let us not forget, in all of the areas where we can do better. And, as we know, veganism can be difficult if you only think of yourself, but easy when you think of the animals. 💖
Respect for Sahil for being so open and honest and engaging with the ideas presented. I remember when I first was learning about veganism I shared a lot of the same thought process. Thanks for spreading love and information Ed!

It feels so good to listen to you both. Thanks for spreading a notion of hope, at least to me, Ed! I really admire your work so much, can't put it in words
Team second hand technology and clothing for the win! It's so easy to get the conversation back on track to animal rights when you commit to that plus it's better for the planet and humans ❤
Second hand technology is reducing the environment impact and exploitation but nevertheless when you buy a second hand product there was somebody who used it first hand, which still causes environmental and ethical issues. What you are doing is just a compromise not a solution.
@@rangv733 They never insinuated otherwise. You sound unnecessarily antagonist and confrontational. There isn't a vegan phone. To use a smartphone one must purchase something that resulted in great death and destruction. So of course purchasing a second-hand one is massively superior in every respect.
@@rangv733 One could say the same about electric vehicles, they aren't necessarily better than cars but y'know, it's a compromise bc people can't or don't want to rely on different modes of transportation. The best option is owning no car, but what if you need one for work? What if you like to travel alot? Are you gonna force everyone to take trains, buses, or simply walk on foot? What about hitchhiking, now you're just relying on someone else to volunteer for your own pleasure. This is a joint effort! The solution would be not to stop buying smartphones, but for working conditions to improve, for retired phones to be recycled, etc. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the big companies who are not taking their responsibility towards making these solutions become a reality, and instead prefer to exploit for profit!
I really respect the honesty here, I would have had similar responses if these questions were asked of me prior to going vegan 4 years ago. Thank you for your passion and persistence Ed.
Why would a vegan call an animal abuser a "lovely guy"? Do you call a child abuser a "lovely guy"? Why is it different when the victims don't look the same?
@@DiahRhiaJonesHonestly, with that kind of comparisons you will convince nobody to care more about animal wellbeeing. You will Just give them excuses (stupid excuses, but people will still happily use them) to call vegans extreme and Not question their behavior. Also, I honestly do not think we should equal those two issues. There are many many differences, but what I am primary thinking about is that child abusers in any case know that it is wrong what they do, and they live in a society where it is impossible if Not really actively wanting to believe otherwise it is more than clear that this is not okay. With buying animal products in the supermarket, which is sadly a completely normalized Thing, a lot of cognitive dissonance and missing knowledge is connected. A very easy thing that shows it is not the same: Nearly all of us were animal abusers once and first had to learn that we are and that we can change. The Same does NOT hold for child abuse. However, even if you still consider this a valid comparison, I still would like to encourage you to not use it in Public. You only reach the opposite from what you would like to reach.
@@DiahRhiaJones I explained to you the circumstances that make the comparison unfitting in the way you use it. I am vegan myself and I never said that it is okay to make non-human animals victims. A comparison does not need to be UNfitting in every point to be not valid. It needs to fit in all relevant points to be valid. My main Point is to make you understand that you do the vegan movement and consequently the animals no good with communicating this way. It is your choice whether you want to reflect that or not. All the best to you.
@@sofiebrammer1482 No you didn't. You didn't give me a morally relevant difference between a pig or a cow and a child victim that would make comparing the similarities of their victimization to be unacceptable. I don't care about how people react to me. Thats not morally relevant and certainly not relevant to the victims. Stop writing walls of text and answer the question.
Amazing conversation Ed, this guy was really open and ready to actually reflect on his actions and his thought process! keep doing what you're doing, you're doing so much for animals
How nice when you have a vegan in your friend group! It makes things so much easier. You can always start with a smooth transition to veganism. Now is such a convenient time for that, with so many restaurants making the vegan option.
Such a good discussion once again Ed! Bravo for this young man saying what many might also feel. I was there before I became vegetarian, then where I was before becoming vegan. My progress was a succession of bargaining with myself. Finally, I could no longer lie to myself. Society is so set up for not doing these things but has come a long way in the last 35 years. Just be sure if you go vegan you actually pay attention to nutrition. Just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's healthy. As we know better, we do better.
I became vegan for selfish reasons. I thought it would be healthier for me. In fact, I only planned to try it out for a few weeks. That was 2 years ago. Never looked back.
Love watching your videos Ed, almost finished reading Vegan Propaganda as well. I envy your seemingly effortless ability to articulate yourself in a debate. I always feel overpowered with emotion when trying to defend animals. Do you (or anyone else) have any advice to combat this?
Agreed. Some, if not most people give responses that can stir your emotions especially their indifference. But we can learn from Ed, thankfully. I hope and wish I can talk like him one day.
What a positive conversation! I think for people like this at the beginning of making the shift to veganism, it can be good to remember you don't have to be "perfect". If you slip up, it doesn't mean you have to give up! It's about reducing suffering and making the best choices in all areas.
Just remember, dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Just because one cant live a perfectly ethical life, does not mean that one shouldnt work on the things one can effect
I'm really happy with how this conversation progressed and concluded. I'd love to hear what you think though! Also, how do you respond to this argument when it comes up?

@@divinegon4671 cool
@@divinegon4671like you are as a complacent murderer?
This was the wholesome thing I needed in my life today, thank you both!
Great conversation, great people!! ☺️❤️🤗❤️
What a lovely man and conversation ❤
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Ed, you are the best! Beautifully done. Always so polite and on point. Nice to see a conversation with someone who is honest and open about themselves!!!
Very nice conversation. Thank you for sharing
What a wonderful conversation! Honest, respectful, open-minded people. Very inspiring! Excellent work, Ed 💚
Sick of people that think having vegan friends is an inconvenience. Seriously, when given that facts it comes down to how selfish you are.
This made my day. Thank you for your compassion and willingness to debate
Beautiful interaction. Well done, Ed. 💚
Fantastic conversation! Thank you Ed for the amazing work
Beautiful debate 🤍☮️✌️💚💚🌱
So impressed with this kind person’s honesty and respect talking to Ed. Amazing job as usual to Ed too ❤
It feels so good to listen to you both. Thanks for spreading a notion of hope, at least to me, Ed! I really admire your work so much, can't put it in words
Thanks Ed!
Wow, amazing discussion!
Im very impressed with the emotional intelligence of this guy
What a great talk! Thank you both! 💚
I really respect the honesty here, I would have had similar responses if these questions were asked of me prior to going vegan 4 years ago. Thank you for your passion and persistence Ed.
nice conversation
Saying that there’s no choice with iPhones is absurd. Surprised the dude just let that slide so easily.
What are the options?
A lovely guy and brilliant discussion. I liked how comfortable this felt and how both parties were so respectful. Vegan here :)
@@sofiebrammer1482 explain to me the morally relevant difference between the victims that makes that comparison unacceptable.
Amazing ending. So beautiful seeing that this conversation changed his life and many others forever. 🙏💖
Let's see if 8 billion Carnist living worldwide would change 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣🤣😆🤣😆🤣😆😆🤣🤣🤣😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣
Amazing conversation Ed, this guy was really open and ready to actually reflect on his actions and his thought process! keep doing what you're doing, you're doing so much for animals
This young man is incredibly impressive in his reflection and openness to new ideas. These traits are very very rare. Protect him at all costs :)
The young man could make a great leader too.
I love this guy and his self awareness!
Do you use pharmaceutical drugs when you get sick?
@@sauravnirala3876Vegans don't use such things. Vegans don't get sick
Ed I love the way you have conversations with these people - you never interrupt, you always listen and give them respect, bravo
How refreshing to see 🙂👍
This guy's mentality is exactly like mine was before I turned vegan
Thank you ed for all you do!
The way he's displaying his emotional intelligence by noticing and talking about his emotional reflexes in real time is very attractive.
I became vegan for selfish reasons. I thought it would be healthier for me. In fact, I only planned to try it out for a few weeks. That was 2 years ago. Never looked back.
That’s amazing, accidental awesome decision-making haha, good for you!
Such a good conversation!! Both of you are so insightful!
Great job, Ed! Great conversation and love that he was open to it and hopefully his friend can help him get through it.
What a lovely young man ..great conversation 💖
Thank you so much for posting this debate.
It has been a really interesting watch.
You explain veganism and being ethical so well to everyone.
Great discussion and great result, thank you Ed for your hard work as always.
What a positive conversation! I think for people like this at the beginning of making the shift to veganism, it can be good to remember you don't have to be "perfect". If you slip up, it doesn't mean you have to give up! It's about reducing suffering and making the best choices in all areas.
This man seemed liked a kind person :) it’s refreshing to hear
Listening to Ed is so soothing to my heart. Love, compassion, intelligence reflects in his voice.
What a great exchange. This video gives me hope ❤
can’t wait to listen to this
the way he asks 'what do you think?' after every point he makes - so considerate and smart
Very smart man, he was already half way there. Thank you Ed for changing minds.
Yes this was so good!!!
Wonderful conversation, and I appreciate that the man who is a vegan is being compassionate and yet firm in his belief.
Brilliant conversation 🙌
Just remember, dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Just because one cant live a perfectly ethical life, does not mean that one shouldnt work on the things one can effect
Awesome outreach, his responses are like pure medicine for an activist
Really impressed with the guy's humility, it takes some balls to admit to these things especially in front of a camera.
