The amount of times that came over the radio from different drivers while I was there was insane! As soon as Truex had his crash a lot of the drivers were asking for nascar to call it.
This race looked to be a lot of fun and can't wait for future races here. But I also think NASCAR struggled with this course and how to deal with the rain. Hope they can learn from this.
Let's hope wipers are an improvement by next road course. Those things work like they're on some old Land Rover... and even the Land Rover's wipers work somewhat more reliable.
Mostly great race. I LOVE rain races, but measures need to be taken to improve visibility, whether that means changes to the lights or something to combat the spray. Maybe even spotter access to the drivers' live locations to show slowdowns? SOMETHING.
Full headlights and taillights plus better wipers and defoggers for the cars would go a long way, as would reintroducing private testing to include seat time on a skidpan. Let drivers learn how the car behaves in the wet and crews how the setup and fuel consumption changes.
I loved being there and watching them at my home track. I hope they come back next year and more than likely will be a dry race, we don’t get a whole lot of rain here anyways.
I was excited to see them race at COTA. One of my favorite tracks, but in the rain they had, it was a clusterfuck. I really hope that this didn't put too much of a bad taste for the track in the driver's mouth. I'd love to see them back there for a clear, dry race it's be pretty interesting I think.
THIS is a real race! drivers today dont have too much of a challenge, and this kind of rain on this kind of a track REALLY levels the playing field and puts everyone outside the comfort zone. and after F1 has been a bore since 2014, this was a great race to watch!

Got rain-X wipers? I ❤ COTA! Put this circuit back on the schedule next year NASCAR!!! It was good to hear Bill Elliott spotting for his son Chase as one of the 3 spotters. If Chase keeps this up, he may get to Jeff Gordon's road course record. 9 is the record, 10 would break it. Next stop, 600 grueling miles at Charlotte, NASCAR's longest race! 🏁
Agreed, it's a shame NASCAR's #1 issue aka the toxic and hypocritical fanbase still complained despite Elliott win. *drivers wreck due to bad conditions in rain race* Fans: "Stop the race! Sat in T12 grandstand. i saw that car slide between kyle and the other driver, but not the crashes up there. But I follow IMSA Weathertech Championship and MotoGP. In every other major motorsport, it's a givenStanding water, yes is a problem. But if you cant see, yeahhhh long day ahead of ya.
I think the visibility problem is twofold. First, they are trying to keep the windshield clear at 170 mph. It seems to me the issue is cycling he wipers faster and moving the pivot point from the center of the car to right in front of the driver. Second, NASCAR starts 38-40 cars which run in multicar packs most of the race. Other series, IMSA, Indy, F1, have fewer cars on the track and they get spread out by several seconds pretty quickly. Spray is a major problem for them too when they are overtaking but that is the exception not the norm.
NASCAR needs to do a lot more to these cars if they are to race in these conditions. Headlights, blinking taillights. Faster wipers or even dual wipers. Seal up the windows or have an opening door with a window bc I can guarantee drivers are getting overspray on their visors.
You'll have a blast. Take it all in. And most importantly enjoy each other. It's a special moment taking your girlfriend to a race with you. Especially with it being both of yalls first race. Then you'll find yourselves going every year like me and my wife now do.
