Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago! I was excited to discover two juvenile Dwarf Pencilfish as well as a couple tiny Clown Killifish in the same community nano tank. I had seen spawning from both species but assumed the eggs and fry would be eaten, which I'm sure most were. Fortunately the tank is HEAVILY PLANTED so some survived :) I know Clown Killifish lay there eggs primarily in opportune spots in lower part of aquarium but did you say the Pencils lay in the roots of floating plants? Can you spot the eggs?

Congratulations with new additions! I noticed that all pencils spawn closer to surface, so it is either roots of floating plants or stem plants reaching the surface that they lay eggs on. Eggs are absolutely tiny. I have not seen dwarf pencilfish eggs, but Becfordi's eggs are very hard to notice. Parents won't eat them as long as they are well fed and there are often plenty of infusoria in floating plant mass, so quite a few fry will survive even if you do nothing to save them!

I saw no fry , what method to remove fry from the main tank?
The" fry" looked like adults. We need to see pictures of the fry .

Your tap water must be very soft Hus in order for the eggs to hatch. Did you measure the parameters (pH, KH, GH)?

Our tap water is indeed very soft and acidic. Both KH and GH hardly reach 2.0ppm, and pH is below 6 (my test kit only detects pH above 6)

@@tropicalfishhub lucky man. I used to live in an area with water v similar to yours in the 1970’s. I could breed and raise Discus with water straight from the tap. Unfortunately, I now have to use HMA and RO units to obtain decent water.

@@PaulsFishroom Yes indeed. South-west Scotland has exceptionally soft tap water!
