Even in those days technology was on the rise and the idea of a machine was fairly normal. There were plenty of people that could conceptualize the idea of flight. I'd show it to someone from the 17th century or before if I could choose

The first time you fall into a well defined cloud, you naturally tense up as if you're going to hit something solid. Then suddenly it's all gray and moist. No problem breathing. If you are with a group of other skydivers, everyone stops maneuvering until visibility improves. The most amazing thing is when you come out the bottom, the earth below suddenly flashes into view in the most spectacular way. The word "Wow" runs through your mind and every body around you starts grinning from ear to ear. I believe the FAA considers punching through clouds illegal. Why? Because often they are routing giant metal cans inside and through the clouds and you could hit one. Meat bags are also invisible to radar. Doh!
I'm a flight instructor and I can't think of a single reason why it should be illegal, as long as it's coordinated with ATC. They already route IFR traffic away from jump zones. Simply have jumpers get a block clearance before release.

That was an eye opener. but we didn't evade, it was past us pretty quickly. I'll have to look at the FARs and see what they say in Part 105.
So many questions! A few: - what's it like to breath inside the cloud? - how much do you feel the humidity / do you get drenched in water by the time you come out of it? - can you tell what's up and what's down just as well as outside the cloud?
I can only tell you from first hand experience flying a paramotor. I once flew through a relatively thick cloud. You do feel the humidity, its kinda thick tho breath in like in a sauna or something, so you def. feel the humidity. You also get a bit wet, the condensation quickly gets you soaked. And lastly you get disoriented very quickly in any sort of cloud.
I’ve been on a plane through a thunderstorm cloud with lightning all around our plane at night somewhere over Texas. That was close enough for me. This vid was cool!

So. I had this boss that was this green beret in Vietnam and after the war was testing parachutes. We were flying on this 4 passenger plane about 5000 off the deck and hitting massive turbulence. I was flying copilot and looked at my boss who was cool as a cucumber. If he was cool, I was cool. Anyways, the other guy asked if he ever got scared on a jump and he told us that during a halo jump, he was in the middle of a cumulus and for no reason got into a panic and pulled early. Watching this gave me a common point of reference to that story.
@@kojack635 Lol they also don't want skydivers getting ingested into plane engines. And yes, I realize that pilots are supposed to stay clear of drop zones, but stranger things have happened. You can't beat VFR for safety.

I’m sure that’s part of it too, but if you’re checking your altimeter every few seconds like you’re supposed to, you should still be able to tell your altitude.

Damn, I didn't realize clouds are that close to earth. It's especially weird when there are low rain clouds, something so close to earth can completely change the day, meanwhile only a bit higher is all sunny and quiet

Not possible usually. You would carry a meter that measured altitude and it would auto deploy the parachute or the reserve just so this kinda stuff won’t happen

Did this once with about 5 guys, and I was the subject of the video. Went through two cumulus clouds like this. Caught shit for it from some people, but it was one of the top 5 coolest things I've ever experienced, and it looks just as awesome. This really is where the midwest out does the southwest. The view changes with the sky way more.
Yeah, it's for sure one of those "just once in a lifetime" thing to do for me too... for pure curiosity satisfaction, skydiving really isn't a lifestyle for me.

Skydiving through the clouds is so cool, I once did that too. Very recommended. Only two days of training needed and you can jump solo from 4k km. It is one of the best experiences in your life! Trust me! The feeling is so overwhelming, like you jump out of a porsche at 400km/h but stay at that speed, all the air is pressing against your body, it's awesome. 500% adrenaline, more rush than any drug, mdma, coke or acid.
For those of you who have never tried this. DO IT. Save up and do the course out in Spain. 18 jumps and get your licence. It is fun and will make you love life even more.

Jak już zrobiłeś aff to za jeden skok jest około 150zl czy dużo ? W porównaniu do bungee za 500zl to chyba tania. Skoki w wojsku najczęściej wyglądaj tak że na pieczarach 5 skoków w rok na skrzydłach 10 jeśli chcesz skakać więcej no to już tylko na etacie gdzie masz możliwość skakać na wolne. Niestety tak to w wojsku wygląda
I long thought as a kid that you would just bounce off the clouds and then land on them as though they were the ground above the actual ground, and the child at heart within me still wants to believe it thus, but alas, that's just within the realm of cartoon magic. The very thought of jumping out of an airplane almost three miles up makes my knees weak! If I want to be that high up, I would rather be on a commercial airliner or on the 1,000th floor of an infinitely tall skyscraper. I could stretch it to a village in the foothills of the Andes, but that's about it.
I love the smarts here also that he is frequently checking his altimeter as soon as he hits the clouds. He loses visual reference with the ground but maintains his vertical perception- small thing but really important
Nice, and always love punching clouds. Looking at it at first was like whoa that's kind of low. Then I'm like oh you jump in meters and not feet like we do in the US. Nice video and not bad for a GoPro 5. Older GoPro's are still great everyone. I ended up just purchasing a GoPro 10 because a waste of money getting the latest and greatest GoPro. Still excellent quality video's.

@@Freq412 Just to be clear, I was saying it *should* be legal if properly coordinated with ATC. It's currently illegal per 14 CFR § 105.17.

i guess that you can have a pretty accurate idea of the bottom from the direction of the wind 🙂

Your forget about fog, which are clouds that form on the surface. So we all been inside a cloud in a way.
They can vary in altitude but a lot of the rain clouds we see are just several thousand feet up

can you also open the parachute BEFORE you enter the cloud, so that you can fly in/around it? Or is this not safe?

Every now and then when the conditions are "safe" I dolphin in and out of clouds just for the fun of it. The cold sauna air feels so nice.

Tak ,to zależy od pogody ,samolotu itp. Na pieczarkach jest norma 5 skoków ,na skrzydłach jest więcej. Do desantu noe jest się łatwo dostać
@@marcinkobylecki7136 Jest to zrozumiałe. Należycie do elity. Super sprawa że w ramach pracy możecie sobie poskakać. Parę lat temu zrobiłem sobie kurs, ale jednak koszty skoków wykraczają ponad moje możliwości i sobie temat odpuściłem. Piękne hobby, ale zarazem dość kosztowne.
@Szammano niestety w cywilu skoki są dość drogie też skakałem w cywilu ,ale odpuściłem, bo robie to w pracy
Najpierw wybierają “elitę” do skakania, a potem sadzają ją na wózku inwalidzkim po kilkudziesięciu skokach…
Jak już zrobiłeś aff to za jeden skok jest około 150zl czy dużo ? W porównaniu do bungee za 500zl to chyba tania. Skoki w wojsku najczęściej wyglądaj tak że na pieczarach 5 skoków w rok na skrzydłach 10 jeśli chcesz skakać więcej no to już tylko na etacie gdzie masz możliwość skakać na wolne. Niestety tak to w wojsku wygląda

I long thought as a kid that you would just bounce off the clouds and then land on them as though they were the ground above the actual ground, and the child at heart within me still wants to believe it thus, but alas, that's just within the realm of cartoon magic. The very thought of jumping out of an airplane almost three miles up makes my knees weak! If I want to be that high up, I would rather be on a commercial airliner or on the 1,000th floor of an infinitely tall skyscraper. I could stretch it to a village in the foothills of the Andes, but that's about it.

I love the smarts here also that he is frequently checking his altimeter as soon as he hits the clouds. He loses visual reference with the ground but maintains his vertical perception- small thing but really important

ummm...i've flown through those clouds many times on IFR flights commercially and even during my own IFR training in a C-172
My Megalophobia would instantly kick in. Imagine being in a cloud so large that everything would go dark.

Nice, and always love punching clouds. Looking at it at first was like whoa that's kind of low. Then I'm like oh you jump in meters and not feet like we do in the US. Nice video and not bad for a GoPro 5. Older GoPro's are still great everyone. I ended up just purchasing a GoPro 10 because a waste of money getting the latest and greatest GoPro. Still excellent quality video's.
