I think there is a lot of valuable info presented here about sacrementals and opression etc... one thing that i think is troubling is the distinction the guest makes regarding traditional vs. Novus ordo priests and i think this could be in itself a form of opression - considering one intrinsical better than the other. I was a trad growing up, music director in various church across the us, and have met holy priests in both latin and english Masses. I think leaning thatbone is better than the other is dangerous , and shows a disunity which the devil loves. He is the master of devision. I have also met poor priest in latin and english communities. One thing i love about the english communityb is the sacrement of burial given to miscarried babies... beautifulbtestament to gods love and mercy...
If you read the blessings that are used on sacramentals in the traditional rite, vs the new rite, you will see that more is asked of God by the old blessings. It is not the holiness of the priest he is remarking on, but the power of the words spoken in the blessing. I have reviewed a few, and I can attest there is a marked difference.
The distinction I sought to make was between the Novus Ordo rites and ritual blessings and those that existed for centuries/millenia and grew organically since the Apostolic era - a distinction of the rites rather than the priests. Many priests who now know and love and utilize the great traditions are still at NO parishes, esp. given the modern restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass
PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT TRADITION WILL FIND ALL THIS GOING ABOVE THEIR HEADS AND MIGHT CAUSE THEM TO SAY,"THERE'S SOMETHING REALLY OFF WITH THIS GUY". IT DOES SOUND RUDE BUT WE HAVE TO BE THICK-SKINNED AND IGNORE IT. THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT TRADITION WOULD APPRECIATE THIS DISCUSSION. I DID.
@@crushtheserpentOr that he doesn’t know all caps means he’s yelling. I worked with someone who typed her emails in all caps, not understanding it meant she was yelling. Of course someone complained to the boss, instead of asking her about it first. He found out she didn’t know, and she sent out an email to everyone apologizing. So, maybe the OP just doesn’t know.
Charles mentions how much longer the blessing of the metal crucifix is. Perhaps it is because it is a Benedictine crucifix (many of these are medal) which has a much longer and more powerful blessing.
Actually, it is the standard blessing of a Crucifix in the Roman Ritual. There, it gives several options - short formula and solemn formula - blessing if it is made of wood and blessing if it is made of metal or stone. The Benedictine crucifix, as I recall, simply gets two separate blessings: that of the crucifix and that of the medal, both of which are very powerful in their wording.
I am a former occultist who is drawn to the Church. I’ve never felt more whole since approaching Christ here
Read valentin Tomberg meditations on the tarot who ended up a Catholic because he recognised the power of the sacred and the importance of the mass.
