Tien is my favorite human Z Fighter of the bunch. His move sets, his mind set, his dedication to his path...it's all so well done in my opinion. I'm right there with you in the outrage of how he was treated in DB Super. Him becoming a master of his own dojo is where I hoped he'd end up. And even when he's teaching others, he's still trying to improve himself, always! True martial artist, right there.
Don't watch the early American dub if you wanna experience the source material. The dub changes a lot and mischaracterizes a few characters. People only recommend that out of nostalgia
If i recall a book Akira T basically said that if Tien ever mastered his third eye power he would gain power equal to that of the gods. Seems like a pretty easy way to make him relevant again. If gohan can just have it whenever he eneds it and Pic can wish for it then let's have Tien visit elder kai and unlock some power. He always struck me as the tactile and pinpoint fighter. Let him be the one who figures out how to master suppressing his energy to nothing, and going for kill shots. Since most of the enemies they fight regenerate anyway there's no reason not to. Bring Tien back to the frontlines~!
Look, I haven't really seen super so I can't speak on that. I'm just sayin I know Krillin is "the strongest human".... but when Tien shows up during Buu all I'm thinking is "Oh, so Tien aint a human? Must be the third eye."
Did good to show his character development; really enjoyed the OG DB deep dive. Super doesn’t exist, 'tis only bad furry-fanfiction. Thanks for another beautiful DB character analysis. Looking forward to when you get around to Raditz, especially if you include his video game appearances like you did here with our OG boy.
I'm late but man I had to leave a comment on this video. Tenshinhan is my favorite character and it's really nice to see others take the time to spotlight what makes Tenshinhan such a cool and great character or how poorly more recent Dragon Ball content has treated him. He's an extremely talented and committed martial arts master and definitely deserved better. It's ashame we don't know more about him, especially since he fell out of focus relatively quickly. The late Toriyama barely talked about him, we hardly know anything about him in external material, and he has little to no past, family, or future, something he has in common with Yamcha. Super tried to flesh Tenshinhan by having him build a generic dojo where somehow he didn't even teach his pupils how to use ki for some reason, even Gohan taught Videl the basics with relative ease, but Tenshinhan couldn't? To add salt to the wound, Roshi is there as an honorary master but doesn't care for being there, he upstages Tenshinhan in his own tournament recruitment episode (then later by Gohan, who wasn't really training at that time and got a plot power up, even Krillin was allowed to 1-up Gohan. But Tenshinhan's 40+ years of martial arts experience and skill did him no good against the uncommitted Gohan with his only 5+ years total of experience.), and Chiaotzu could barely handle his own mind-controlled students. It was a disater, Roshi pasted the torch to Ten, but all that seem to have been forgotten. Speaking of which, it was super insulting that Goku didn't even think of Ten for the tournament at first and Oolong had to remind Goku that Ten exists, Goku thought of recruiting ROSHI before Ten. Needless to say, Tenshinhan is a role model, Obviously, his discipline, hard work, dedication, relatable character arc, coolness factor, and plethora of techniques are what draw me to this character. As I mentioned before, Tenshinhan, Chiaotzu, and even Yamcha have no family, no past, and frankly, no future (unfortunately). Which is why I really think they could have benefitted from that. There is a reason Piccolo's death in the Saiyan Arc and his last words to Gohan hit a little harder with fans compared to Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu deaths despite being sad as well. It's because Toriyama actually cared about exploring and focusing on the former pair, we got to see much more of Piccolo and Gohan's friendship develop, thus resonated more with fans. All we know about Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu is that they've been together since their days at the Crane School and outside material says they play beach volleyball together, a nod to Ten's volleyball technique, they train in private on the mountains, and Ten is relatively reclusive compared to others in Goku's friend and ally group, even more than Piccolo. So much so that, Tenshinhan and by extension Chiaotzu were completely omitted from the anime version of the special Yo! Son Goku & Friends Return from 2008, they were in the manga version, but you'd be forgiven for not really noticing their lack of presence in the anime due to how reclusive Tenshinhan is as a character it seemed natural. Tenshinhan something gets left out of stuff like in Super they at times forget to add him in a scene he should be in I believe. But in the case of the 2008 special, it came out a year or 2 after the death of Tenshinhan's original Japanese voice actor, so he was excluded out of respect. Ten's character definitely could have benefitted with more screentime of him and Launch, who Toriyama mentioned dated Tenshinhan at one point, maybe they could have had a family and a child of Tenshinhan would be apart of the next generations of fighters and such along with Goten and Trunks. Anyways, a lot of DB characters suffered a lot because when their arcs wrapped up, thay was pretty much it for them other than the extremely rare cool moment or two. A common complaint by fans even since the heyday of DB was Torino poor utilization of these fun characters. As soon as they turn to the good side, they became bland and directionless. What harms them more is their tenuous relationship and lack of interaction with the other cast members. Goku and Vegeta have become so strong and otherworldly, you can't imagine a scenario where they would interact with a ancillary cast member without it being forced. They're isolated and unfortunately you get an impossible situation when you have a beloved cast that contributes nothing to the plot but have to stick around because it would be odd if they just up and vanished entirely.
I'm kinda sad you didn't talk about one of my favorite Tien moments in dragon ball where he runs into that one guy who he beat up years ago in a match while trying to find the dragon balls during the King piccolo saga. the man had gotten permanent injuries and was broke with a wife and kid. He even called the cops on Tien to have him be taken away. Tien got on his knees and asked for forgiveness. The episode was 107 if anyone else is interested in what episode it was. Besides that this video is GREAT!
@@Misscouchpotato- damn that does sound great. I'm sorry, my knowledge on the filler episodes is limited. When I made this video I followed along the manga then found the corresponding episodes. But I'm glad you enjoyed what I did talk about
well since 1997 i was a fan of Tien and Goku. Forever. When i bought dragon ball 42, 5 years later when it released in french, I loved to see hm blast Boo with his power !
Never seen this channel before. Glad that this video is blowing up, I love seeing underrated characters get the shine they deserve. By the way, I paused at 29:34 and I was like “how did I get here, did I already finish the video about Tien?” For a second I thought I clicked on a gaming video and had been watching it for several minutes LoL.
Tenshinhan has always been up there as one of my favourite characters, ever since I read and watched the original Dragonball. The fight in the final of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai between him and Goku is one of, if not my absolute favourite fight in the entirety of DB/Z/GT/Super. He also got one of the coolest moments in all of DBZ when he held second form Cell down with his barrage of Kikoho. Which was made even cooler in the DBZ Abridged version. In fact they did a great job with his character in that in general, where they made Krillin and Yamcha come across as whiny whimps, Ten who's just as strong (or weak) as those two, takes no shit from anyone. Love the way they did the relationship between him and Vegeta lmao.
@ssbasix7704 just his story he went from a nothing bandit living on scraps in the desert to a protector or humanity mastered marshal arts gaindx superhuman powers and although he didn't end up with the girl still worked hard and became rich doing what he love which was baseball.

Tien is a character that requires experiencing original dragon ball to fully appreciate like most of the earthlings who don't make many recurring appearances after Z. You just don't have access to so much insight to Tien if you don't see it, and unfortunately I am a part of that crowd and it's why I refuse to disrespect him. That, and tri-beaming cell for hours is badass
W Video brother. Tien/Tenshinhan is also one of my favourites. If I ever play fighterz he'd be one of my mains. Hopefully he's really cool and fun in Sparking Zero as well
I became a fan of Tien after playing with him and taking down super saiyans in the DBZ CCG. He was underpowered but had a bunch of powerful cards you could synergize with him.
This is a very well made video and I love Tien. This is the first time I'm learning that Tien ATTEMPTING the Mafuba on King Piccolo was actually a change from the manga and he merely was to fight him in the manga. You say you like this change because it makes the mafuba training mean something and that's valid. However, I think this change(even if it is only filler) actively hurts Tien and shows him having a lack of foresight(3eyes hurhur). Tien choosing to use the mafuba in this fight, WHEN TWO HENCHMEN ARE PRESENT always bothered me. He didn't know Goku was coming and let's say the mafuba WORKED on Piccolo. Wouldn't Drum or Piano just....open it? You'd think Tien would think of that.
I think it works to show how desperate tien is. He's still in his hothead phase, so him not thinking that it could be destroyed is possible. I'm just speculating though, I love piccolo's reaction to seeing the rice cooker too.
Tien is by far my favorite fighter in the franchise. Back in the original Dragonball, he was that guy who could master techniques just by seeing them. Second, he's right up there with Piccolo as one of the most inventive fighters in the series. The fella develops new moves, moves which have been used by every other major protagonist since the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Third, Roshi actually considered Tien a possible successor to himself. During the 22nd Tenkaichi Tournament and King Piccolo Arcs, Roshi acively worked to recruit Tien over to the good guys so he could have someone take over his work as the man who would keep testing future warriors. Last and most importantly, he never gave up training. Aside from Goku, Piccolo, and Vegeta, he's the only character in the main group of protagonists who kept grinding well past the Cell Arc. You can't say the same thing about Gohan, Yamacha, or Krillin. Regardless of how much Toei Animation and the late Toriyama zhit on his character, there are certain accolades you can never take from him.
The best thing about Tien is he is much more relatable to Goku as an pupil, in that Goku wishes Tien didn't deserve such a terrible master guiding him. It is pretty much the dynamic in "The Karate Kid," but Goku is less of an underdog
Finally someone respects Tien my fav character

i really like how this video is just him talking about a character he really likes. I wish more youtube videos were like this.
also i love tien a LOT.
13:58 when I was a kid I called choutzhu was an emperor and nobody knew wtf I was talking about and I couldn’t find the movie I was referencing, I thought I was Mandela effecting
Damn, Dragon ball z attack of the saiyans on nintendo DS was the first game of the franchise i've played. It was so coooool, i still play it when i think about it.
Let's go! Attack of the saiyans is underrated!
@@ChitinChazz still have my first save with OP broly's collar item. The game's sprites are REALLY cool 😀 And each characters having their solo arc is the cherry on top of it all
Goku & Piccolo are my favourites, but I love Yamcha & Tien. They deserve more credit as he's just plain straight up awesome.
Me, myself, personally as a person liked Tien. Not really knowing anything about him, just playing the fighting games. Give me that three eyed bad boy
It's simple. I want big damage and tien gives it to me.
I still need to watch DBZ. 😔 you and Totally Not Mark have really made me want to watch it GRIGGA.
Do yourself a favor and watch the ones with Bruce Falconer score, it is more genuine to the original airings in the States.
Don't watch the early American dub if you wanna experience the source material. The dub changes a lot and mischaracterizes a few characters. People only recommend that out of nostalgia
If anything, dragon ball z kai is your best bet or the manga as well.
@@DMMDestroyeryes bruce adds so much power and emotion to scenes. Its a completely different experience
Try to get the remaster version that caame out like 10 or so years ago has specials behind the scenes. Movies all episodes langjage and ausio options
30:52 unrelated but android 21 is both tough as hell and a baddie
Hell yeah!
Attack of the Saiyans is massively overlooked and underrated. It's an amazing gem for any DB fan. I've beaten it 4 times.
Tien..., I can never read that guy.
"I'm not a spectator! I'm a warrior!"
Have never been able to nail down a fave character but Tien kicks ass.
Looking forward to when you get around to Raditz, especially if you include his video game appearances like you did here with our OG boy.
the most tactical, useful and crazy tecniques come from him
Tien has so much aura man. Bro gets screen time in all the arcs (minus names) and does something randomly badass asf
But I'm glad you enjoyed what I did talk about
@@ChitinChazz Yea. That's alright! It's understandable. Especially when it was mostly towards the end of the episode.
Tien is definitely one of my top 5 favorite characters for sure 🏆🥇🏆
“I. HATE. EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU”
“WHY. DO I LOVE YOU”
Fucking badass
The absolute unit Tienshinhan being the same age as baby chibi 15 y/o Goku is hilarious
Going through every characters sweet and relatable moments then majin Vegeta is insane
Unironically wish that Tien edit was canon
well since 1997 i was a fan of Tien and Goku.
Triangle hands, circle beam, square hole.
After being ascent throughout most of Z and GT I was just happy to see Tien get more screen time in Super even if not done perfectly.
I loved attack of the saiyans. I wish I knew where my copy of it was. In the TOP both Tien and Krillin got done dirty.
Nappa's and vegeta's boss themes are soooo good in that game. It's a shame it never got a sequel
I do love Tien's later outfits.
Me being a Yamcha fan
You have great taste. Yamcha is great too
Why may I ask. I am searching for character inspiration for my story
@ssbasix7704 just his story he went from a nothing bandit living on scraps in the desert to a protector or humanity mastered marshal arts gaindx superhuman powers and although he didn't end up with the girl still worked hard and became rich doing what he love which was baseball.
@@Sanjixoxo Yamcha is my boi! It's so great seeing other people like him!
I wasn’t expecting a tien guide for fighterz but I’ll take it I didn’t know you could tiger knee the volleyball fist as a tien main I’ll use this on people and friends alike
Remember you can jump cancel any normal on block during sparking, so his stand medium becomes a true 50/50 guess between the volleyball fist or his down medium. Destroy your friends😈
Man i love that lil Dbfz breakdown you sneaked in 😂
Haha thank you. I could've talked about a lot more, but I didn't want to go on for too long with that section.
Liking one second in. Everything you said is correct.
Always love to see a OG like Tien gettkng his flowers after all these years.
Tien is such a GOATED character. I love that guy. He never skipped leg a day in the gym.😎
Yeah, Tien is pretty strong
Tien and Yamcha are my favorite characters, in all of fiction, period. Its hard loving characters everyone trash talks
chiaotzu holds tien back so much
Tien is a character that requires experiencing original dragon ball to fully appreciate like most of the earthlings who don't make many recurring appearances after Z. You just don't have access to so much insight to Tien if you don't see it, and unfortunately I am a part of that crowd and it's why I refuse to disrespect him. That, and tri-beaming cell for hours is badass
DBZ in the old 90s dub, Tien vs inperfect cell was my favorite scene from all the various dragonball shows. "Here's a little gift from the no count"
The fact that this dude was able to injure Semi-Perfect Cell when all the Androids and the Super-Namekian can do is run was impressive.
My favorite moment is when tien is giving it his all and doing the Tri beam attack on 2 form cell like 8 times in a row
I say Krillin and Yamcha are my fav, bc theyre the OG homies, and Krillin now bc of the peak line from DBS of "im absolutely Krillin it today"
Tien and Pickle are close 2nds
Nappa is number 0, hes the GOAT
Everytime i train shoulders i think of Tien. Tein vs Cell and Tein vs Buu are my some of my favorite moments in the series
I think Tien is based on Gordon Liu in the 36th Chamber of Shaolin. It’s where Wu Tang got their first album name also. It’s a definite must watch.
I just wish we had more Tien! Always liked him the most.
W Video brother. Tien/Tenshinhan is also one of my favourites. If I ever play fighterz he'd be one of my mains. Hopefully he's really cool and fun in Sparking Zero as well
Can't wait to make a "What if tien beat cell" or something like that.
I already really liked Tien
This vid convinced me that he's my favorite DB character
Tien deserves a power up and a win against a villain!
Tien is my favourite character. I also main him in FighterZ. This video was made for me.
Anchor tien always comes in clutch! 7 bars + sparking = pain!
