Very intense piece. I hear more Wagnerian influence than Brahmsian, honestly.....Funny: first name popped up to my mind is Dvořak but at time he wrote they hadn't met yet Unfortunately Sinigaglia is completely forgotten in Italy too .....
You are correct, maybe Wikipedia refers Brahms to other works. I thought the same by the way about Wagner, could not think to another reference, maybe Sgambati, or just... Sinigaglia :)
