Benoit Sokal recently passed away. To say I'm gutted is an understatement, but his visionary form of storytelling will forever be with us. R.I.P my friend.
"Kate's gradual surrender to the notion that living a dream, no matter how silly it may appear to be, is far better than a life without meaning" (4:01) i absolutely love that line, you hit the heart of the matter. Such a wonderful video, especially the end, thank you
I've watched A LOT of reviews over the years and this hit me right in the nostalgia. Calm and collected, articulate and profound. God we need more of this on YT... Subscribed :)
I've recently been playing Syberia and honestly, I loved the analysis that you did of the game itself. You did a really good job at analysing the themes and everything within the game! Pretty much have the same interpretation as you.
Tatsu! thanks a lot for your elaborate analysis of the fabulous game of Syberia I&II. What you have described here overlaps with how I saw the narrative, detailed art work, masterfully composed music and the general theme of the game. Thanks for your effort and the upload.
I was actually harassing my father, a big franco-belgian comic amateur, to look at this game, even though he never played any. Your review summed it up in 15 minutes. Impressive and wonderfully crafted. You deserve my subscription.
Thank you for reviewing this wonderful game and rekindling my urge to revisit them. I miss the classic adventure games Syberia, its sequel and post mortem/still life. Cheers from Iran.
My sister and I played Syberia 1 and 2 again and again because of the heart in this story, Kate's growth, Oscar, and the scenery and music, which enhanced the underlying beauty and meaning. Well done with your review!
I am currently playing Syberia 3 and just found out about Benoît Sokal's passing from this comment section. What a loss! As a teenager I fell in love with the magnificent artistry of the first two games and had followed for years the development of Syberia 3 (also because Syberia 2 kind of closed Hans' story arc and was interested to see which direction the series would take). Only now did I start the 3rd part (also because Syberia 4 is on the way) and I am keeping my expectations in check. Thank you very much for the wonderful review!
Wow, what an excellent review! I appreciated your almost academical analysis of the games, and I think it's fitting that went into such detail to describe the philosophical themes of the games. These are works of art and they deserve this sort of treatment. SPOILER WARNING! 1. Why doesn't Oskar need re-winding up? 2. Who will take care of the now abandoned factory? 3. How on earth will Kate get back to civilization? Syberia 3 has just been announced, so I hope all will be revealed!
Having been looking for some good quest-focused games that can play on my old laptop the Syberia series looks ideal. The graphics and the atmosphere look brilliantly created, the soundtrack mesmerising, and the story fascinating.
I just purchased the Syberia trilogy on GOG games, as it was on discount. Never played that, so I've watched your video in order to have some kind of summary. Ok, yur video let me cry, a lot. Superb description of yours, indeed. I can't wait to have the time to play these games
I'm one of the people that had many chances before to play these games, but still haven't. I purchased the Syberia Trilogy for Nintendo Switch and hope to start it soon. Have always been interested in this franchise...
I got Syberia 1 earlier this yeard, I got stuck, then I purchased a PS4. I need to return to Syberia, it's such a beautiful game. And I would really like to live in Valadiléne.
Thank you, your review swayed me to purchase this beautifully interesting game. I will buy this game and the sequel on steam together as A bundle. The bundle is $3.74 and is on sale now, until March 11, 2013.
Beautiful video for an amazing masterpiece. Most of all, thanks for respecting the gamer's right to subjective interpretation. I hope more games like this will be created in the future.
There is a lot that can be said about the mechanics of an adventure game, contrary to what you say. Ron GIlbert does it well. And if you compare his recent game (Thimbleweed Park) with his first game (Monkey Island), you sure notice difference with the mechanics and design and how they impact the user experience.
Syberia 1 and 2 are a lot better than the third one. I'm a very huge fan of the series and have played both parts many many times however I was not able to get through the third one because of bugs and general frustration so I ended up watching a let's play of it. Hope you enjoy them! You can get them for cheap sometimes. Saw them on switch for £1.50 for both of them which I don't think it's fair buuuuttt.. very accesible.
@@awhellyeah543 I’m looking at a bundle of 1&2 on switch rn for 2 bucks total ! This video damn near sold em for me like buddy’s original comment said^ I wasn’t going to buy because of bad reviews but seems to me like a dollar a game is worth it to see how good the story really is
@@brickdinero5468 Honestly I think the first two games are fantastic. I've played the Syberia that just came out as well and it doesn't have the same charm. The first two games may not look great now since they came out in early 2000s but i think the pace and progression of the story is good, the motivation is realistic, and the character growth is just wonderful. I did play them when I was a child the first time and part of my love for the game might be nostalgia but i really hope they hold up for people that are only just playing them now. Let me know if you've liked them if you ever finish them!
Hi! I'm adding Russian subtitles to different videos that I like and I wanted to ask if I can conact you in any way to send subtitles to this video to you :) Looking forward to your answer!

Really saddened to hear of his passing. I'm honoured to have got the chance to play his labour of love.
Unfortunately only today I found out about that and now I;m trying to see again what a beautiful world he has created.

Amazing games. Only shows how 3 failed... Even yukols lost their magic
I don't think the game actually says anything anti-soviet. Also, Chaplin was basically a Stalinist.
You should be playing in 4:3 not 16:9 everything looks too fat and wide...
