I had the mount Elliot wedge tail eagle do that. He pulled the bungee off my tip batten and made the right wing lose tension. The glider fell into a radical side slip and was the start of an aerial dog fight. But that's a long story. I've had a few eagles try to pull the flight feathers off my hang gliders over the years.
@timmay301 I think its a lot like a mini magpie. They act the same. He has stopped doing it now until next spring. This will be the sixth year that he's been flying with me. Not sure if he;ll be around much longer but he's been teacing his son how to do it. I velcro'd plastic coffee lid to the tip and put some sultana's in it then taped it up leaving a little gap so he could heave a feed . Thats why he knows my whistle. Stoked eh!
@proflytebyron man you've known this bird for six years you should know what it is lol.. really awesome. does he also thermal with you and fly with the other gliders or what? awesome stuff man..:)
they were totally safe BUT the bird tried and failed to undo the wingnuts! Magpie BIRDS are made from the wrong stuff, not to be trusted. Take care ps Buzzards are also BAD BIRDS
Haha! thats so cool!! a Pied Butcherbird is the bird in question..never seen anything like that! Got to give it to him.. trying to take on the 'bird' which is only about 500 times bigger than he is! that birds got balls!! LOL
Are these wild birds that are landing on your wings? I know a guy that had a trained Sparrow Hawk and it would land right on a perch he made to the left of the control bar. Never had a bird get that close to me while hang gliding, but I did see a California Condor about 50ft from me at just over 10Kft, at a site called Crestline Park, in San Bernardino, CA. We held each other's eyes for a moment and then it dove down and behind me and I never saw it again.

Use to fly with the Red Tail Hawks in Ellenville, NY
The bird is flying, and not flying at the same time lol
super awesome :D i flew with a redtail the other day, but i was too busy avoiding the ridge to start whistling and serving him coffee
its a butcher bird. gets heaps of them at my place (Skennars Head) and we feed them by hand. Very cheeky and not afraid of humans at all!
Двуспальный дельтаплан?
haha awesome xD I thought the bird will pull out the strings so they will fall xD

@Cliverdude
Thanks Mate.
I;m stoked to have the footage.
It's incredible how the bird can shape its body midair and achieve its goal
That Magpie was making me nervous the way it was picking at something.. not sure if it could do any damages.. but.. what was it up to?

It's really cool.
That's cool
...so...it IS possible to park it (the bird) up there. yep, rest in mid-air!
Is he with you or against you?
So I guess the funnel spider isn’t the only thing to worry about down under.
How cool😎👌🇦🇺
I think that bird was trying to take the glider apart

thats brilliant mate
I thinck the interest was caused by the same colouring of the glider. The bird is as if saying : "Wat the hack is this!!!".
that bird is awesome
when the bird strikes do 90 insta turn and also some acrobatics and try to fight the bird with hang glider
Does anybody remembers the "man on the wing" Twilight zone episode?
