She had such a sweet angel face, but she could really stop Ralph in his tracks. Thanks for this wonderful tribute to Audrey Meadows who played "Alice" to perfection.
Jackie was smart to surround himself with the talent he did...he kept it fresh and fun, only 39 episodes were made and we still talk about this show after 60 years....wow
You can watch plenty of clean family shows. There are more family shows on UA-cam and on cable than their were back than. You are making the decision to watch other things.
She always putting Ralph back in place. She loves him inspite of his behavior. He has a heart of gold for Alice. And she knows that! He would die for Alice.
They had such great chemistry on the set with each other line after line was hysterical!! Audrey Meadows was and always be a great and beautiful actress of comedy. She delivered the lines with Jackie Gleason so perfectly they dont make this kind of comedy anymore!!!!!!!!
Audrey Meadows was talented, funny, classy and beautiful. Anyone who can shine like she did with Jackie Gleason on the same stage is truly "The Greatest" My favorite, too.
geom404 she almost didn’t get the part because he said she too pretty to play Alice but she nailed in her second audition. He had no clue she was the lady he said was too pretty to play the part.
Audrey was the epitome of class and lady-like charm/swagger. She never got enough credit for how gorgeous she truly was. And that voice of hers, my goodness, one of a kind. She had once been a showgirl dancer too, I believe that is how Jackie discovered her.
He actually discovered her when her agent and his agent got together and decided to bring her in. She didn’t even get to read because Gleason said she was too young and too pretty. So she hired a photographer to come to her apartment at like 5 AM and shoot her without any makeup on and her hair in rollers and in ratty clothes. When Gleason received the photos, he said, “That’s our Alice. Where do we get her?” And his agent told him, “That’s the girl who walked in here yesterday.” 💜 Isn’t that the best?!
Let's get something straight, right here, right now, this is hands-down the very best sitcom of all time! The writing the acting and the delivery of the lines to Perfection make this sitcom hilarious to me no matter how many times I watch it. No other show that I can think of has the same effect on me. Truly truly truly masterful work on all sides. Like the old song says they don't make them like they used to.
It's symbiotic. Her delivery when she was lobbing an insult was spot on perfect. But what amplified the humor was Ralph's (Gleason's) facial expression. If she were delivering those lines to anyone else but Gleason, they wouldn't be nearly as funny. Gleason was one of those performers who were fully aware that a great TEAM with great chemistry make for a great show, which ultimately allows the star to shine more brightly.
The crab on TV today would everyone in the Golden Days that died would roll over in their graves. Humor then was much purer and real funnier without dirty talk today that you see on TV now.
2:52 “This place looks like Yucca Flats after the blast!” Absolutely brilliant writing and delivery. It is hard to imagine anyone else playing Alice even though other actresses have.
Audrey Meadows was a great actress, and a classy woman. In an interview she did, she said she was the first women's libber on T.V. because she didn't take any shit from Ralph. How true!!
Her sister Jane says that from a little girl on she was totally deadpan, nasal and used that monotone voice. What a fabulous contrast to the antics of Gleason with his wild movements, explosive voice and wonderfully expressive face. This contrast is the essence of their comedy.
Yeah...a time long forgotten. The garbage they call "TV" today is puke-worthy. Very sad it all is, and it's only going to get worse. If Jackie and the many other greats were alive today, they'd die of shock seeing what is on TV these days.
Aubrey was around before woman burned their bras and before woman were so called liberated. She didn't need liberation, she already was, and she knew it... Thats what everyone loved about her role... damn straight...
Dear Audrey you created a timeless character....when Alice is sweet she's the perfect wife that anyman could love.....When Alice stands up to Ralph he usually deserves it......despite Ed Nortons excentric character Alice always treats him with respect and consideration ....Alice and Audrey from all of us we love you....
This show was truly amazing film show, Alice was one greatest actor. Kind sad why this show never earn no rewards of Hall of Fame. But nice clean and family show. Truly love classic hit film show. God bless all actors on show.
Maybe no awards on the Hall of Fame nut the MTA buses honored the show with naming a depot in Sherpshead ay Brooklyn. The Honeymooners logo is on the side bus doors as well... Plus The City also honored Art Carney aka The Sewer Systems. I don't know why,.but yhere is a statue of Ralph Kramdem outide the 8th Avenue Bus Depot in Manhattan...
It's still a riot Alice even now in 2018.... this is actually comedy. What's on today can't hold a candle to this. It may seem corny and dated. But the actors are solid and the timing perfect.
Gleason didn't believe she could play the part because she was so beautiful. So, she worked at looking and acting "common". After the first performance, he was a believer. I always had a crush on Alice.
Love these classics! Remember when a nickel would buy you something! They were in NY City but in that time 62.00 was not a bad payday! I remember when candy was 2 for a penny. I'm mot even 100 yet!
Arguably one if not the greatest comedies ever to air on television Ralph Alice Norton Trixie I just can't get enough of it I've seen each episode so many times and I still laugh and laugh and laugh they never get old I wish they still made comedies like this
Funny, but realistic - real people in a real setting!! How I envy the audiences who got to see those shows live!! And Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph, 2 talented beauties!! I hope Joyce Randolph sees these comments, and I want her to know what joy and happiness they brought to so many people over the years - even the new generations think they are the best!!!
I remember that one of Alice’s comebacks was so funny that all he could say was “I wish I could I could think of something to say to her.” I can’t remember her line though.
What made this show so good besides having a great cast is those writers who put those words or funny lines into the actors mouths. Without them it would not be referred to the classic 39 episodes. Writing at its highest level
Audrey was an absolutely gorgeous lady. Such a lasting impression she made with her Alice character. A great show the Honeymooners.
I always felt she was very attractive LT Compton Ca
Nobody in the world could throw down the clapbacks like Audrey Meadows lady ahead of her time... she was the greatest
Only rivaled by Peg Bundy and Dorothy Zbornak lol.
Audrey, rest in peace. You played Alice absolutely perfectly and you made this show. A class act and simply gorgeous.
She had such a sweet angel face, but she could really stop Ralph in his tracks. Thanks for this wonderful tribute to Audrey Meadows who played "Alice" to perfection.
She is an Angel Face, but boy,she could really throw out those one-liners!
She was very cute for sure !!
So glad they changed the original Alice for Audrey Meadow's.
Absolutely agree with Jillian, the role of Alice was tailor made for Audrey Meadows!
@@TheBee87bee yup! Angel face with a quick wit and a sharp tongue.
Jackie was smart to surround himself with the talent he did...he kept it fresh and fun, only 39 episodes were made and we still talk about this show after 60 years....wow
Back in the day when television was harmless, clean & funny. This show will always be one of the all-time classics.
This show makes me laugh my ass off

@@Michelle-pn9xt There was no Cable or UA-cam back then...
I wish more shows today were like that... a classic funny show..legionary even today's market
Man this holds up through the ages really well.
How anyone in the world couldn’t love Audrey Meadows is beyond me.
One of the best shows ever. You know every punch line and you still laugh out loud !!! 😂❤️
She definitely made the show. Without her it would not have been a big success
The inimitable Audrey Meadows,; her comic timing is simply flawless as demonstrated over and over in the excerpts above.
She always putting Ralph back in place. She loves him inspite of his behavior. He has a heart of gold for Alice. And she knows that! He would die for Alice.
Loved Audrey Meadows - she was just beautiful.
Very much so LT Compton Ca
She had some of the best lines!
They had such great chemistry on the set with each other line after line was hysterical!! Audrey Meadows was and always be a great and beautiful actress of comedy. She delivered the lines with Jackie Gleason so perfectly they dont make this kind of comedy anymore!!!!!!!!
This was always one of my favorite program's. He loved her no matter what because she kept him in line
It was "Married with Children" decades before. His act made him the perfect target for her and she was brilliant at giving it back.
Audrey Meadows was talented, funny, classy and beautiful. Anyone who can shine like she did with Jackie Gleason on the same stage is truly "The Greatest" My favorite, too.
Wow! That's all I can say … wow … she's GOOD.
geom404 she almost didn’t get the part because he said she too pretty to play Alice but she nailed in her second audition. He had no clue she was the lady he said was too pretty to play the part.
I always felt she very attractive LT Compton Ca
" Baby you're the greatest! " That part always gets me,if only life could be wrapped up so neat!
Jackie Gleason & Audrey Meadows both made it to the eternal moon of heaven may both of them RIP!

Loll Alice...it's for You You You!!!!! Her return line gets me Every time loll 💞
1:22 "The biggest thing you ever got into was your pants!" GOD, the writing and acting! We're never gonna see anything like this again.
And bless Gleason, he never had a problem with her getting a bigger laugh.
so true ..and with carney too...amazing 2017..and the show is still funny ..a true classic. .Gleason was,a genius. .the cast was great

(Making a joke) With all that blubber on him, you'd think Ralph was the BIGGEST laugh
Chris N , thanks! I watched the re-runs growing up! " To the moon Alice! "
The crab on TV today would everyone in the Golden Days that died would roll over in their graves. Humor then was much purer and real funnier without dirty talk today that you see on TV now.
The writers were GREAT. And the way Gleason delivered the lines. He set himself up. And Audrey ran w the responses 🌹💕🌎🌍
2:52 “This place looks like Yucca Flats after the blast!” Absolutely brilliant writing and delivery. It is hard to imagine anyone else playing Alice even though other actresses have.
Right?! The delivery of that KILLS me.
Don't understand how anyone thinks that the Honeymooners isn't absolutely freaking hilarious! Because it absolutely freaking is!!

Imagine going toe-to-toe with Gleason and Art Carney and completely holding your own. Not many actor's would have pulled that off as well as she.
Audrey meadows was always a looker!!!! and a good sport.
Kudos to Jackie Gleason for giving Audrey such great one liners. RIP to them all.
