In those days TV was shot LIVE ,so there was no room for error .... Audrey Meadows here proved what a wonderful talented actor she was ! Gleason had perfect concentration so he could react like no other to any situation ...magical chemistry between the two legends .

@@andrewgrove1691 But notice I wrote “limousine liberals”. I’m a liberal, too. I’m also not offended, and part of the reason is the realism of this show. I’ve known people like Norton or Alice or Ralph or Trixie, as exaggerated as any of them may be for affect. My point is the limo crowd can’t relate to working people, regardless of politics. THAT’S what offends THOSE folks: that there could be a reality out there which is harsh and can’t be sugarcoated.

In fact one of our daughters was named after the two vintage Audreys. *Hephburn & Meadows*
Crazy to think that Meadows almost didn’t get that part if she hadn’t persisted.

@@ursulasmith6402 You must be really young. Lol. "Started in the 80s..." is that like with the dinosaurs 🦕...
A woman couldn't own a house or have credit back then on her own. Most women didn't work (that I know who were actually there, and this was the 50s) so it would be hard to leave.
This, on the other hand is tension on purpose for comedic purposes. Archie Bunker was the same thing.
He never touches her, blocks her way from leaving, or calls her any names. It doesn't qualify by definition.
Domestic violence is a personality disorder. I don't think it can be cured. They MIGHT stop physically abusing, but they won't stop being jerks whenever they feel like it.
I wouldn't hold my breath. It's very tiny % and only with a lot of specific DV help. Anger management is BS, btw. Not the same.
It comes from extremely entitled mentality. The partner isn't any more than any other thing that you can do what you want with.
There's libraries. Please go find Lundy Bancroft. He's also online. He's an expert. He wrote Why does he DO that? Inside the minds of angry and controlling men.
Can women be abusive? Yeah, however, even most women would find an angry woman more funny than actually threatening of your life. You don't often hear about women killing men with their bare hands. Usually a gun or knife is involved, and it's not common.
If a woman dies or vanishes, the first person they're going to look at is the partner b/c that's usually who did it.
Please go do some reading. The 80s wasn't that long ago. Lol

Here is a woman from 50 years ago who looks as pleasant in clothes long outdated as any woman in the latest trendy fashion and make up. However I don't mean to diss the modern trends. Am trying to find the episode where Alice says, 'Yeah. Ralph this place is a regular Disneyland. Take that refrigerator over there, it's as old as the frontier. I call that my Frontierland. And that stove. I never know when it will work. That's my Adventureland, Ralph. And the t.v. there in the corner. Oh, I forgot. There is no t.v that's my Fantasyland. There's only one thing missing from my Disneyland, Ralph. That's my Tomorrowland. We have no future. To which Ralph respnds; 'You want a Tomorrowland? You want a Tomorrowland?. I'll give you a Tomorrowland...Pow! To the moon ! (If someone knows where that classic exchange can be found, please let me know)

I think it's from the "Better Living Through TV" episode, where Ralph and Norton shoot the commercial. Not positive, now.

MeTV speeds up episodes of this series, and perhaps others. I know "The Honeymooners" Classic 39 so well, I can tell the dialogue is faster, and it bothers me a little, although not enough to change the channel. Whatever the engineers do over at MeTV to achieve this, they do it rather flawlessly. (Some episodes are also edited.)

I can see why The Honeymooners only lasted for one season. This way, Alice forever remained the loyal, loving wife. I think that by the next season the laughs would have dried up as the stark realization of the situation of poverty would have turned us against the lovable loser that was Ralph. As a kid growing up in New York City I saw them as next door neighbors. The magic of the show was similar to that of The Beverly Hillbillies..they seemed like real people not actors.

Thank you for posting, BUT GEEEE, sure wish you would have included Ralph's "POW, to the Moon!" Could you include it perhaps? It adds to the fun.

+BigBingFan - I honestly did not expect this much of a response but I am glad that folks enjoyed this one priceless scene. One other "Honeymooners" episode that is rib splitting funny is one in which Alice is practicing for a play and Ralph overhears her plotting to kill her man in the play. Gleason was at his finest in this series and his body language and facial expressions were unmatched as was Meadows portrayal of a 50's era housewife.
Perhaps I will put up a few more scenes from other episodes in the near future but this one stands out as an example of why men should never hope to win an argument when his woman is determined to prevail.
